The 1987 series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is been shown on Eleven in Australia, starting on 9:00 AM on Sunday 3rd March 2013.

A really strange decision, considering the new Nickelodeon series still has not been shown on (free to air) TV in Australia.

Hey, it's already been on TV in Canada on Teletoon Retro for almost a year....

...of course, it stops early in the third season for some reason.

Its really bizarre that despite the immense popularity of the OT back in the day...it was never aired in reruns in the U.S. after it initially left airwaves back in 1997.

When Next Mutation was airing you couldn't find the original toon anywhere...or any time after that.

I'm really hoping at some point The Hub will start airing the original cartoon in the US. That'd be really cool!

Maybe when next mutation is finished they can start airing the OT:o

They would have to get the rights from Lionsgate. Perhaps Lionsgate doesn't want to air it on TV because it'll reduce sales of their DVDs.

I'll buy them either way.

Well, USA aired reruns up through Season 8 until September 1996, when the Season 10 episodes started to air. But Australia always tends to be a bit behind the times in terms of imported TV. Still, I see Nick making a smart move in the US/UK not to bring out the classics too quickly so that the franchise is open to a new generation. Now,right before the 2014 movie is released, then the reruns for the OT/4kids everywhere should begin to not just promote the movie but to hopefully tell people that there is a new Nick series/toys if they haven't known by now. But in the US, Seasons 9 and 10 have never been rerun.

I feel that the reason why the later episodes are harder to run is that they weren't syndicated, and that rerunning more episodes costs more money. IMO the bare minimum for rerunning the OT should be the first 65 episodes, and this limits the same episode from appearing more than once every three months if stripped daily or aired twice a day on weekend days. Anyways, the DVDs have been in print for many years now, and next year will mark 10 years since the first DVD release. I would like to see a wait of one more year so that the large Party Wagon could be sold to its potential, and THEN reair the OT for promotion tied to the Michael Bay film.

Well, Real Ghostbusters for example only had 26 episodes total aired on there before repeating so I guess that's the case with the TMNT. :( Yet Batman TAS and Thundercats had their full 65 episode run. I stopped watching a long time ago and now I have the DVDs.

That's awesome!

I'm so glad I saw this thread. Now I can set the Tivo to record the episodes.

Wow, that's great!

I wish our local tv can do the same. Not likely.
