So I picked up the DVD yesterday and on the inside case there is a bio for Leo. His species is called turtle/human hybrid. Has that term ever been used before?

Not really.. but it's a pretty accurate description.

They are half-turtle half-human creatures after-all.

Makes it sound like he was born of two species. Or, like, gene spliced. :ohwell:

I think it sounds pretty cool. And since they have Splinter's DNA technically they are related.

never heard it before XD but I bet everyone kinda figured the turtles were half-human.

Exactly.... if they weren't they'd still be crawling around the bottom of a glass bowl...

I'd prefer Bipedal Turtles or Humanoid Turtles. But with the Nick mutagen following the physics of Fred Wolf mutagen, it's a accurate description. They are hybrids with human DNA.

I never thought of the mutagen making them half human, but in Nick it might just do that.

Yep, completely agree. Splinter (when he was still human) touched them and following the mechanics of the mutagen they turned into human/turtle hybrids. I would prefer if they described them differently but it really doesn't bother me that much.

Now I'm gonna go a bit off topic here, but something that has been bothering me about the physics of the mutagen is that they seem kind of arbitrary. If you look back at ep 9 (the gaunlet), Bradford and Xever are shown interacting with the animals they would later be turned into, but just before they get hit with the ooze, they fought the turtles with bare hands. Shouldn't they have turned into some kind of turlte mutant instead? Like it happened to Hun in turtles forever. I know it doesn't serve the purposes of the show to have them mutated into turtles, but still.

The Turtles were already mutants though so when Xever and Bradford touched them it might not have worked.

Yeah I thought that might be the case too, but I feel that we are trying too hard to make a flawed concept seem logical. I guess I'll just keep enjoying the show at face value as I've been doing so far. Sometimes over analyzing is counterproductive :trazz:

We have to interpret the 'rules' (which are really just whatever the writers find most convenient for a given situation) as they come... like when baxter became a mutant fly in the OT, how would that work in the Nick series? When the turtles were fighting bradford and xever why did they mutate with the dog and fish they'd came in contact with and not say, a fly or some other insect they are likely to have came into contact with in the meantime? The only sensible answer is because the writers wanted it that way. But the "in universe" explanation may be more complicated. Perhaps it as to do with the level of contact involved, or some sort of synergy between the two entities.

Anyway using "X and human hybrid" is redundant since so far every mutant is half human and we don't know if that will ever change. There's Justin but it may well have been part human.

They are strictly Turtle/human hybrids in the Fred Wolf, Archie, and now Nickelodeon universes.

Nowhere else.

I think Tristan had an unused Tales script that explained that the mutagen was a byproduct of a machine that the Utroms used to create synthetic human skin for their exosuits.

So the universes that matter. Gotcha.

That's unfair to say. The live action movies are arguably the most popular universe.

Well, they did go out of their way to have a more significant interaction with the animals. Chris was bitten and Xever ate that snakehead fish, so the DNA was in their blood stream.

But it just makes previous mutations make less sense. Mainly Splinter... a rat ran across his shoe and that was enough to turn him into a rodent. I guess it could have happened differently, but that's all the flashback show's happening.

I see your point, and I think I came up with an explanation for why the ooze doesn't have the same effect every time: it's not the same ooze. One of the main plot points of the series is that the Krang have been kidnapping scientists to help them modify the ooze (since it's not doing what they want it to do... whatever that is), so it's seems logical to assume that it has foregone certain modifications that might have changed it's behavior, thus explaining why some people are mutated into a certain animal by simply touching them [splinter(?) and the spiderbytes], and other may require to have the DNA plunged into their bloodstream to work [Xever and Bradford].

It's a stretch, but I guess that's a somewhat logical explanation to all this.

I think they just say the turtles are half human because it mildly reduces the creepiness of turtle/human shipping.

Because the target audience for TMNT 2012 would have a perfect understanding of the word 'bipedal'.

That pic of Karai looks like a cross between Karai and Mavis from Hotel Transylvania.:)

The real question is what does the mutagen actually do in dimension X since in this dimension it functions differently.
