With the new big thing being all about zombies and The Walking Dead (which is amazing! get watching if you haven't seen it) and the IDW Infestation cross overs lets start putting the two together. How do you guys think the TMNT would do in the zombie apocalypse? Which characters do you think would be the first to go?

Rat king with zombie rats at his side... :x
I've yet to tire of zombies despite the constant deluge of zombies in all forms of media (heck even in romance movies now :p), it's because zombie stuff (when it's good) isn't so much about the zombies as it is about people surviving and all the politics that go with that. Those sort of stories are always interesting.
So yeah I'd like to see a "Marvel Zombies" type of "What If?" Story involving the TMNT ^__^ There are so many ways you could go with it.
In my version we'd see the turtles fall one-by-one and at the end we'd have don and april all alone in a corner, and april finally gives him the kiss of his life before they are devoured :o Before you finish rolling your eyes, I'm joking :P

I would love to see a TMNT in a zombie infested New York. I can see Shredder dropping a bunch of zombies and mousers through the sewers to get the turtles. I have to say Casey Jones would be the first of the turtle clan to go. Probably getting over run while bashing the zombies with his baseball bats.

I think I would actually like that. A mix of TMNT and The Walking Dead(watching it right now:P) seems like a cool idea. Having the turtles forced out of their lair and having to fight if zombies would be great. Be some good fan fiction for someone.
Far as first to go? I'd say April actually. Then Splinter depending on which version if him if was.

See I would say April too, BUT The turtles are so attached to April so I feel like that they would put her safety before themselves.
This is more of a general TMNT section thing.

I remember an episode of the 1987 cartoon (but not the title) where the Turtles fight a bunch of reanimated statues? Akin to those found in China in 1966, I believe.

Zombies are hardly a new phenomenon, but for some reason The Walking Dead struck a chord with the mainstream. Zombies, vampires and werewolves have all been "things" for little over a decade.
Anyhoo, there was an isue of Tales Volume 2 set in an alternate dimension where Mike was a Wereturtle and Raph was skeleton-zombie.

Are you talking about Volume 2 #51? thats when they battle the necromancer
First to go: Irma. Zombies throw her Hairspray Grenades back at her.
After that, Carter.
Raph and Ninjara would be the only ones left.

Haha how did i never think of this scenario before this. i Love Turtles and i Love Zombies. For the classic cartoon Turtles, in my opinion one of the first to go would be Irma or Vernon. Once the horde got bigger Casey would fall because he always rushes in without thinking. The Turtles themselves should be fine enough, and being amphibious give them a huge advantage. If April survives then a Turtle might fall (Probably Mikey as his weapon is least effective against zombies, especially if its in the later seasons where all he has is a grappling hook) protecting her. Splinter is a wild card in the mix as i have no idea how well he would do.
For Shredder and Krang being that they live in a huge rolling fortress would be fine. Even when the Drome is stuck the environments its stuck in protect it from zombies in its own way (the earths core: no zombies can get there, arctic: freezes the undead in there place, ocean floor: pressure crushes zombies). If they were attack unawares the Foot soldiers being robots are immune to zombie bites. Shredders armour protects his extremities from bites making him "safer" and Krang in his Body would be alright because zombies might not recognize that the only living tissue is in his core. Plus if all that fails they have two huge Zombie fodder henchmen that would be two dumb to realize they are being used as bait for them to escape.
Alright thats my thoughts. Now i Have Thoughts of Zombie Rocksteady and Bebop. and Shredder drenched in Zombie Gore after he took them out. If only i had artistic skill those would be sweet sketches.

Wow now I have an image in my head of the Turtles backed into the corner of the lair while zombies are coming at them...
But anyway, I would love to see some sort of Zombieland-esque thing go on with them. Where New York is taken by some disease that turns people into zombies and Donatello had some sort of list of rules he lives by/ has his brothers live by....or maybe he's separated from the others and has to find them before its too late...I think that it's cool and could have potential :D

With all the mutagen and goings on, this is bound to happen. However the turtles will have to use guns and seeing how they are NINJA'S they should use any means necessary. I'm tired of Teenage Mutant Karate Turtles, I want them to put the NINJA in ninja.

Historical ninjas did use firearms and explosives as needed and when available.

I agree to an extent. If the Turtles were only looking out for themselves they would been perfectly fine. But they are always looking out everyone in the city, especially April. So if a Turtle Were to fall that would be the reason.
That or the Zombie horde surrounds Vinnie's Pizza Place ;)

Yeah the Turtles have Chronic Hero Syndrome. If any of them fall it will be because they become overwhelmed with trying to defend innocent citizens while trying to fight off the zombies.
But in a pure combat situation with no one to defend but themselves Leo has the best chance for survival. His blades would be the most useful for dispatching Zombies. Don's staff could keep them at bay but I'm not sure it would have strength enough to crush skulls and destroy the brain which, according to the Zombie Survival Guide, is the only way to destroy a zombie. Not sure about Mikey. Nunchucks have the crushing power but I'm not sure how good they'd be at crowd control which is a neccesity when dealing with zombies. Raph is the one I'd be most worried about. Sais don't have that much reach which means he'd have to wade in there to deal with the zombies. This would increase the chance of getting bitten. Combine this with his aggressive nature and if anyone falls Raph would be the most likely.

I think Raph would be safer than Mikey. Sais have a little less range, but they have the sharp edge necessary to puncture through the brain. Nunchucks take a little more effort to bash the brain. On the average person the blow to the head would knock a guy out with a concussion, but that's nothing for a zombie. The brain has to be destroyed.

If you watch the nunchucks part it takes the ninja a few swings to get to the brain. Valuable time and energy wasted with the nunchucks. Mikey would be better off with a Hammer.

Good point. It was the reach I was concerned about more than the Sai's offensive capability. But you're right. It would take more effort and time to kill a zombie with nunchucks than it would with a Sai. And when you're surrounded by flesh eating horrors time is definately a factor.

Plus you have to get momentum going with the nunchucks to do anything, and momentum would decrease if not stop with each blow, forcing Mikey to swing his arms in big motions. Raphe with his Sai can keep his arms closer in and be more defensive well on the attack.

I can see a zombie sneaking up and taking a huge chunk of Mikey's arm with his big swings.
Casey Jones I believe would be a wild card. He has the strength and stamina to keep going but I think he would rush into a situation without thinking all the way through (kinda like Zog in return to new york).

Casey would be a zombie killing machine, for a while. But if the question is would he survive the apocalypse, the answer in my mind is no he wouldn't, but he would take a lot of zombies down with him. Keep in mind i'm talking about classic cartoon Casey. Movie Casey has nearly as good a shot of surviving as the Turtles, as he has the intelligence to know when to run and when to fight. In both instances Casey's weapons are exactly the weapons you want for melee combat with zombies.

All you have to do is do damage to the brain. If you can stab a zombie through the eye and kill a zombie with a screwdriver (as seen on the walking dead) you can do Kill a zombie with a Sai. It'll be a little close for comfort but you can definitely get the job done.

Exactly, the Sai in Raph's capable hands would be fine at dispatching a few Zombies here and there. Which is all you need to do if your trying to survive is take out the zombies in your way as you escape and avoid the rest.

I think you're right about this one. Raph, as bad ass as he is, you let his temper get in his way.
If we were talking just turtles my order would go: Mikey (nunchucks are useless against zombies. He would have no chance unless he changes his weapon). Then Raph (bad temper plus short range weapon is no good for crowd control). Donnie would outsmart the zombies for a while. Eventually getting over run with out the other two or saving a human. Leo has the best chance with his level head, best weapon, and intelligence.

I agree with the first 2. But its a Toss up between Leo and Don. My Guess is Don would try some Crazy invention to survive and if this invention is as successful as the turtle van or Turtle blimp then i say he would out survive Leo. if its as successfully as the retro catapult or any of his pizza inventions, well then Leo wins hands down haha.

How do you guys think the TMNT would do in the zombie apocalypse? Which characters do you think would be the first to go?
I always have a giggle when people say this zombie thing is the "new big thing" when it's been around for a long time now...
And I seen the Zombies In A Halfshell before. It was brought to my attention 'cus I love both zombies and TMNT lol
But I dunno... How would the TMNT do in a zombie world? Probably poorly HAHA!
Ok they are a bit survivalist being that they live where they can and are "off the radar". They know how to be silent and keep out of sight.
So, as far as any of that goes I suppose the Turtles would be well off.
As far as food and supplies... they love their pizza and after the zombies hit there would be no more pizza. What else do they eat? Apples, I'm sure. They are still turtles despite eating pizza and a few other human foods so I suppose they could go roughage if they needed to.
Weapons... none of them have firearms or training. They are all close combat weapons which means they could burn out their stamina before being able to get away. This is assuming they were to get caught by any zombies prowling around. They are supposed to be the shadows so in my mind I would think the Turtles would seem "invisible" to the zombies.
Unless we're dealing with zombies that can somehow smell... We dont know how mutant turtles smell and maybe they would smell just off enough to not attract zombies.
Leo and Don are probably the best suited with weapons. Leo uses swords, like Michonne of the Walking Dead. Don has that staff so he could crush and sweep zombies from a further distance. So these two Turtles have reach that keeps them further away and they can both cause enough damage to a zombie. Don can also clear a path, if needed, sweeping zombie's legs or jamming the staff into a zombie's chest and shoving it into a group behind it.
Mike's 'chucks have crushing power. I saw some special once where someone was testing the crushing power of a nunchuck on one of those computer-sensored dummies that records feedback to the computer. Those things are meant to cause damage if used correctly. Enough to stop a zombie? Probably not. Most zombies need to have trauma caused to the brain or spinal column.
Either shoot the zombie in the head or destroy the brain with force. You would need to strike a zombie several times in the head with a 'chuck just to stop it from coming.
Raphael is in a similar problem. He has sai which are both offensive or defensive weapons. They can also be used for stabbing however they have a really short reach. Even with the prongs on the sides, he could get them caught and unable to pull it back out. He also would have to almost go entirely bare-fisted into a fight with zombies, which is dangerous itself.
I would conclude that Mike and Raph, if caught in a wave of zombies, wouldn't be able to fight out of it if it came down to it.
Leo and Don have the best weapons for the job.
They know stealth anyway so they shouldn't NEED to fight any zombies anyway. They could go on a more standard turtle diet but there will be a time the vegetation will die out. They should also be able to swim so they COULD get away from the island of NY too.
Oh ya, and they are turtles which means they have shells. This means that a zombie would need to bite their arms, legs or head to infect them. As long as the era of TMNT can retreat into their shell, they are as safe as a pet turtle being attacked by a dog.

BRILLIANT! I am so surprised that I have not thought about the TMNT hiding in their shell. Thinking back now, the only time I remember the turtles hiding in the their shell when attacked was in the third movie to hide from the cannon. But that would probably work very well when being chased down by a horde of zombies.

I disagree with this being an effective strategy because zombies are persistent and would also be able to reach there arms inside the turtles shells. Even if they couldn't get a bite into them well they are in their shells they would surround the turtle and keep at it until the turtle died of dehydration.

I this this tactic would work depending on the situation. They the horde is already in melee range and the turtles popped in their shells then yes, the zombies would continue to scratch and claw with the shells until something else draws its attention. BUT if the zombies were still walking around aimlessly and the the turtles hide before the zombies get riled up then I think they would be safe.

hmmm as a hiding tactic it might work, but i don't see many situations where they would do this instead of just hiding behind a rock or something. Remember that in there shells the turtles lose a lot of their ability to see around them. So maybe if they were running across a big open field with nothing to hide behind and they see a horde coming toward them And they manage to tuck into there shells before being noticed it might just be a viable option. But most situations i think there better bet is fight or flight... or hide behind a big rock.

It was also a bit of a joke, being as safe as a pet turtle being attacked by a dog.
A dog is the turtles mortal enemy. A dog CAN still, somehow, rip out the turtle from its shell.
Zombies are supposed to be dead and I believe that, in the event that somehow the dead are walking due to misfiring signals from the animal part of the brain to the body, they would not posses super strength or anything. But it be enough that the Turtles really wouldn't be safe.
Also, were were wondering if the Turtles could become zombies themselves or are we just wondering how well they would fair in the zombie pandemic?
For the Turtles to become a zombie we would have to consider to "strain" of virus. Some of them do not affect animals, such as in Romero and Kirkman stories. Others do affect animals like dogs and birds, such as in Resident Evil. If we are in the classic zombie pandemic than I would argue that the genealogy of the Turtles being non-human, PLUS being mutated as well, would keep them from becoming one of the undead. They could still become food to the zombies but I would venture to say that anthropomorphic characters like the Turtles and Usagi, even other titles like Street Sharks or Darkwing Duck, would mean that the population of animal or mutants would keep from turning.
But there are so many different zombie viruses. Marvel has there own zombie thing going on in their comics. If you wanted to argue that whatever got the Marvel characters from Avengers to X-Men could affect the mutation in the Turtles as well, then, well... there ya go. :P
