Spoilers

Great issue, they go into detail about the cops (based on Peter and Kevin), but stick to the cartoon quite well.

well, they weren't supposed to sell it, but i stole mine
Actually I have a very good comic store friend, can't say where though, dont' want him or her to get in trouble.

it was a very good issue and I recommend everyone picks up at least 2 copies!

btw I do believe this is an ongoing series, but I'm not sure, I'll ask my friend.

PanMan

is this just a re-telling of the tv series, cause that's pretty much what i got out of the preview. i know it's more in depth, but is it just the tv show re-told?

Chris
06-10-2003, 10:53 PM
In previews it mentions nothing about this series being only a mini so I'd assume it's here to stay.

When I email Dan about the comic he said the current plan is for the comic to stick to the continuity of the show, but it's always possible for it to do it's own thing in the future if it proves to be popular enough.

Hey guys.

the first 4 issues will run along with the continuity of the first 4 episodes of
the animated show. after issue #4, the series will take on a life of its own with its own original storyline.

Why is the Peter David cover $9.95?!? I was going to get both, but I'm not spending $10 on a comic that I can get for $2.95 just because it has a different cover! :x

I don't think it's a "Peter David" cover, it's Pat Lee I think. I'm getting it for like $15, it's one of those covers to every 15 normal issues? Am I right Lesean? I'll be getting it for sure, this comic rocked, I look forward to this series way more than mirage, because mirage...well...killed off someone I really like :|

Oops, I meant Pat Lee. But still, $10? I don't know, I mean, I already got a big day as it is, with TMNT #10 being $3.95 and Superman Red Son #2 being $5.95, plus all the regular stuff (Ultimate X-Men, Gotham Central, the new Kingpin, etc.) =/

Hrmm... if the cover is fancier (like printed on heavier weight stock), or it has holographic effects, etc.. I can see why it would be more. They do that to many of the TF comics put out too.

I just got back from the comic store, they had one issue left of both covers: The one they reserved for me (the cover with Leo in the foreground up to his waist in the sewer), and the other one. I considered getting both of them until I saw a sticker on the other one that said the price: $14.95!!! Sorry, I love TMNT but not happenin'. I've already paid ten bucks each for special covers of Masters of the Universe and Voltron the last few weeks. This price gouging on "variant" covers is getting ridiculous, especially in this case. The book just came out and the cover did not appear to be "enhanced" in any way at all, just a regular cover. What a rip.

Ah well, at least I have a copy of the issue. I picked up a ton of books today and only paid $25. :D

Heee.. this issue was neat. I liked how Peter gave the rookie cop and the failed PD member a background like that. I feel so sad that the cop lost his best bud to crime.

Nah.. just kidding. I didn't cry. It was neat to see Eastman animated. Kinda looked like Wierd Al at times too. *lol*

I thought they had enough Turtle 'screentime' to me. Just enough to get a feeling for the guys, who was who, and some good all ninja fight scenes. I do like how it still fills ya in on the plot for those who hadn't seen it on TV yet.

This comic may also help fill in some of the loose ends the show left hanging. Maybe that's why the TV shows feel a bit rushed for the 20 minutes alloted.

My only nit-pick... Raph must be really good to disarm a dude's knife, with fingers between prongs of his sai, and not nick his knuckles in the process.

Leo656
06-12-2003, 01:36 PM
Probably not the only one. Most people I know around here (including my girlfriend) refuse to read the new Mirage book because of the art. I wouldn't be surprised if the DW comic sells better in the long run, it appeals to a wider audience I think. Better art, story based loosely on the cartoon, it's in color... all that just screams "mass appeal".

TMNT is cooler than MOTU
06-12-2003, 01:45 PM
Story-Very dispointed in the story. It was almost exactly like the TV show save for the fact there was more of the two cops. There was even dialogue that was the same! I think it should be based on the show, not be a comic translation of it. It should be a separate story.

6/10

Art-Here's where the comic really shines. LeSeans art makes the pacing very fast and doesn't dawdle on anything. It's really easy to animate the figures in your mind as you're reading along. But one thing got on my nerves a bit, the tons of lopsided page panels. It's alright to use them in action scenes...but use them sparingly or they lose their effect very quickly.

8/10

It was OK, but coming from such talented people, it could've been much better.

PWDESAI
06-12-2003, 02:04 PM
It's supposed to be based on teh new show. That's what they were told at least, the 4 issues or something. It was an awesome bonus to get other stuff away from teh show. With that said, I believe that the Dreamwave book sold very well at Graham Crackers Comics, a pretty big chain of comic stores here in Chicagoland. Better than the Mirage at least. I'm starting to dislike that book more and more...
IMO I like urban fighting a LOT more than alien things. I'm glad Peter Laird is telling the story his way, but his way is not my way. I totally prefer the original 3 issues to anything else. I guess the very first utrom story arc was pretty enjoyable as well, if anything the art didn't suck. But in issue #15 when he started to get into the super heroes n' stuff, it sorta lost it for me. That's when i started to prefer the old cartoon over it, and eventually the new cartoon.
Image wasn't all that great either, the art was just a tad better than lawson's imo. He drew the turtles funky and killed off a lot of characters and messed others up. Mikey remained undamaged though, Biased? Who Knows.

Hey everyone,

just checking in to say hi and thanx for giving TMNT#1 a shot.
Peter David has done a fantastic job on creating an entertaining
TMNT series for fans and has somehow managed to pull off the edge
of the old, with the fun and spunk of the new, and still incorporate
the animated series in there. i'm amazed.

stick around, theres a lot of character development for the characters
that the show didnt touch on, that you're gonna love, and fight sequences
unlike you've seen the green guys do.:)

Finally, thanx so much for the compliments and the honest opinions/critiques! When the word first got round here about the new series and the original conceptual designs got out and posted here, there was much speculation on wether this series was worth the time.

i'm glad to see you guys dug it. i'll do my best to stick around and keep you guys posted on upcomings on the new series. feels good to be a member here at Technodrome.

See y'all in 28 days...

LeS-

P.S. Great Meeting You greensborohill:) thanx for coming out to say hi. hope its not the last.

Nope, this is in everyone's. It seems they tried to skip all the parts of the episode that we already saw. Which makes sense, when you are trying to tell the same tale from a different perspective.

I was psyched for this because Dreamwave has such excellent artwork. I think LeSean held up on his end.

Anyone read ARKANIUM? LeSean really had some cool stuff going down there. Had these outstanding mid-air action shots. Also the coloring did a great job of capturing the mood/atmosphere.

TMNT #1 was cool, no doubts there. I felt the writing was a little off. Not quite sure how to pin it down. Like the 1st episode of the show, it seemed like they were trying to do TOO much.

The best part was probably that blur technique on that one kick by Mikey. I think LeSean will easily top this art in subsequent issues. He's capable of a lot. I hope he brings the mid-air stuff like he did on ARKANIUM into it. It will own.

And that cover with the Turtles on the one side and the Foot on the other was total ownage.

Jephael
06-15-2003, 07:19 PM
I just got the book and it is awesome! I agree too about the writing, but was interested in how they chose not to focus on the turtles so much in this issue. I get the feeling they'll focus alot on Baxter and April in the next 2 issues.

I really like the new comics art work. I like the fact that the story is an extension of the show. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that we are basically reading what we already know from the show, how about something new like happenings between episodes. I will continue to read these comics, hopefully we get some original stories in the future.

Ok, I finally went to the comic book store today and picked up a copy. Here's my opinion on the new comic. :| I just don't think that it compares to the Mirage series. It felt way too short in my opinion. If I hadn't seen the TV show, then this comic would have seemed better. I already know what's going to happen and it happens exactly the way it supposed to and does it rather quickly. Also the price tag of this comic is way too high for what is being offered, a short story printed on cheap material. At least provide a nice sturdier cover for future issues. And what's the deal with this variant cover. I haven't seen one but $15. That just seems a little outrageous. I like to try and collect every issue but unless I find this issue for under $5 there is no way I will be purchasing it. Finally, I have something good to say, the artwork easily outdoes Mirage. Also, I hope that their are original entertaining stories after the first 4 issues when it is supposed to stray a little from the TV show. I am giving this comic a few more months to see how it continues on. Sorry about the rant but, aside from the artwork, my expectations fell short.

Karpo_007
06-27-2003, 06:38 PM
One thing that prevents it from getting to Mirage's level are the same limitations that the new show has, No blood, Cut wounds, graphical death, and things like that. Nevertheless it seems like a very good comic book, and I hve high hopes for the future.

About the price, normal issues still cost 3$ a issue, the ones that cost 15$ are just collectors editions with diffrent cover.

Bebop
06-27-2003, 09:55 PM
Yeah I know the normal issues are $3.00 but all I was saying is that I don't think it is worth $3.00 for such a short read.

It's much more rare than the Lesean cover. For example my comics store had 20 issues and only one of them was Lee's cover (which I got by the way :D ).

My comic store only had LeSean's cover. And I still haven't got the Pat Lee one. I got to try and find a comic store that has it.

Does anyone have a scan of Lee's cover. I thought I saw it awhile ago on the DreamWave site, but now I can't seem to find it. My comic shop didn't have it.

To be honest, my Pat Lee variant was the same price as the LeSean cover.

OMG! I want the Pat Lee one! All I got to do is find me a copy. Maybe I will ask the comic store guy if he knows where I could get one or something like that. Thanks for the picture.
