View Full Version : Finally, a non-pizza food on TMNT! (bonus: it's asian!)

It's great that they finally showed the turtles eating something internally logical - actual asian food! Cooked using authentic implements!
They are also using chopsticks, but to be fair we have seen them used before 2 or 3 times.
I mean, we assume that Spinter exposed the turtles life-long to japanese food, right?
Still can't wait for Leo to eat sushi, like in the comics.

you can't blame them for being pizza-obessed though XD
New York pizza is da bomb!!

Have the turtles never eaten much other than pizza before? Guess I never noticed
Anyway yeah it's great to see Splinter putting more Japanese culture into his sons lives.

I assumed that they'd been eating algae and worms their entire lives.

I think that was just to hype the pizza moment up XD
or....they really did only have algae and worms....XD
I'm guessing maybe now that they know April, Splinter asks her to get a few things for them when she goes to the store. :tsmile:

I love that they love pizza -- but if they ONLY ate pizza and talked about pizza non stop like in the OT I'd get irritated.
I'm glad they aren't doing that with the Nick show ^__^
The turtles are mutated from contact with a Japanese man! Not to mention raised by him. It's only natural they would love ramen :d
And naa, I'm sure the turtles ate a variety of things before they discovered pizza. Lots of stuff can be found in the sewer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxqQGmbAFCI) :X

lol Yeah, I'm guessing before experimenting with fresh food, they experimented with other stuff they found and somehow algae and worms came out on top - Raph does say that he thought they'd never taste anything better, but that doesn't mean they've never tasted anything worse.
Much as I love their pizza addiction, have to agree that it's nice seeing them eat other things as well.

Didn't they eat pizza sushi in episode 8? Or was it some other asian dish with a pizza style?

I've really learned to love Asian food over the past few years, first Chinese and now Japanese (especially Sushi rolls). It enriches the cuisine this world offers and I'm glad these Turtles enjoy more. Pizza will always be known in our hearts for the Turtle, but use it too much its a cliche unless if some new clever ideas are drawn.
Wait a second, we had cereal on the second OT episode (Choco Puffs for me!) Sure they were just pizza toppings, but at least it wasn't just pizza.

It was Pizza Gyoza.

I really liked seeing them eat ramen noodles. That was a nice touch and the best part was that Leo was cooking it.

I think I'll just bump my thread instead of starting another one. This episode we also saw the restaurant token system (doubly useful for a blind chef), a few japanese phrases, and I believe for the first time korean text (not food related).

yea...and turtle soup....Murakami-san WHY!?
lol. also to add, the 2 non-translated dishes on the token machine is 'wild vegetables' and 'pork'.
Karai got a turtle soup token from the soda button, and April got a pizza gyoza token from the pork button. Karai's head covered up the 3rd big button.
yea...and turtle soup....Murakami-san WHY!?
Yeah I know! You'd think Murakami-San would have a "no serving my friend's species" policy in place.

I know. I was surprised Murakami had that on the menu, but you could tell he was distressed about serving it. Maybe he should take it off the menu for good.

I capped the tokens if you guys are interested... poor dead turtle icon, haha. He looks so sad. :tcry:
I'm assuming the one Karai's holding must be Japanese for turtle soup, then.

And he didn't even set the kitchen on fire. It's like the writers don't read fanfiction or something. Seriously, that's gotta be one of the silliest fanon cliches. When I saw that scene I almost wondered if they didn't do that on purpose for that very reason, heh.

It could be, and I agree about that being the worst fanon cliche. To me, I believe that out of all of them, maybe Donnie would be the worst cook, not Leo. But I think that people write about that because they want Leo to have some sort of flaw, so they chose that as his flaw. It does get old to read about it though.

Love the Asian references and the Japanese language here and there. Hope to see it as a balance between pizza. Hopefully the rest of the Turtles don't take in Mikey's bizarre taste in pizza like in the OT.
