Is April supposed to be Irish? In the Archie series she had an Uncle from Scotland. In the Mirage comics Kevin wanted her to be black but Peter Laird saw her as white.

Well technically in the mirage comics she is black AND white. :tsmile:

See this is what I love about the Ninja Turtles franchise. In every incarnation they all have somewhat altered backstories, unlike the DC and Marvel heroes who virtually always have the exact same origin stories.
"O'Neil" is an Irish name. MacNeil would be the Scottish equivalent.

Her nationality? She's American.
As for her ethnicity...who knows.

This is because the turtles aren't that popular, so they don't get nerds giving them death-threats. Also April is totally american. I can just tell somehow.

No way. She's a leprechaun with a green card. Pay attention. :tgrumble:

It depends. In the mirage comics she's caucasian, but o'niel sounds irish, so i'm assuming part of her family is irish. But that's my opinion

She's not black in the Mirage comics.

That logic doesn't really make sense when you take into consideration how butthurt half the fanbase was over the news that Michael Bay was producing the new movie, not to mention the more recent questionable casting choices. Also, if the TMNT weren't that popular Viacom wouldn't have spent 60 million bucks to buy the copyrights from Peter Laird in the first place!

She actually does appear black in at least two mirage issues. Some of the color trades even have a black skin tone. I cant remember the issues off the top of my head, but im sure someone here will be nice enough to supply a pic.

Why does it matter?
That's kind of the point of this message board, to bring up every insignificant factoid about this crazy little franchise we all adore.

Why does it matter?
Because obviously it's unclear at times, don't be so quick to play the PC Card. Christ.

...Hardly an insignificant factoid but ok.

Since Irish ancestry has more redheads than any other type, it makes sense. The blackish look in Mirage derives from Peter knowing a friend named April who was partly black.

Since scottish ancestry has more redheads than any other type, it makes sense.
