Hey guys,

I'm creating a post here in hopes that someone has some information on obtaining a good-quality scan of a promotional photo used on one of the VHS Covers for the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

Pictured here: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UZvnZso3UTI/T7bxKLriRVI/AAAAAAAAAjI/_aYsdZaBj0Q/s1600/vhs-ninturtles.jpg

I'm trying to re-create the covers for my TMNT DVD's to match the copies I grew up with on VHS. The original tapes are long gone, and though I thought of buying an old copy and scanning it, I decided the quality would probably be too poor. So all I really need is the photo of the turtles themselves - everything else can be done in Photoshop easily. What's crazy, is that this photo seems to be impossible to find. It was re-used for the current DVD release in the awful green color scheme, but someone tweaked the contrast so much on the turtles themselves, it's unusable.

Any ideas? I've looked at cards issued at the time and posters, but I can't find the same image used anywhere else. Anyone have a great 1-page spread hiding in a magazine somewhere?

Anyways, I thought if anyone might know, I'd find them on here. Thanks for any information you can give me!

I enjoy this cover, but a part of me always wished they would have used "sewer lid" poster for the domestic video releases. On the other hand, the VHS artwork sells the style of the film a bit better.

maybe try buying one on ebay and scanning? unless some kind soul here does it, the chances of finding a print-res image of that shot online, and at the proper size, are pretty slim.

Thanks, Powder. :) Those are the closest pics I found online as well, though the ones you linked to are bigger. I may have to fudge it a bit, though it's be better than nothing.

I did think of buying and scanning a copy off of eBay, but the sleeve condition isn't the best on even the good ones. And I'm not paying $50+ on a sealed copy just to scan it, lol.

There's also the laserdisc version which has larger artwork. I've wanted to try this project as well. Let us know how it goes so we can compare photoshop notes. I believe I already have the font they used.
