Pretty cool. It's seems like Donnie will be the star of this one whereas Leo was the star of the first one. I'm still waiting for complete season sets though.

COWA-BUYIN THAT! :)

Can't wait to see the Chaotic Epic Shredder Battle in HD with the surround sound :D
And it includes 7 Episodes so one of my favourites "I, Monster" made it in.

The description says this DVD contains SEVEN episodes instead of six like the first one. That's pretty good, that means up to episode 13 will be on DVD so far.

I'm still waiting for a potential blu-ray season set after it ends, but its nice to see these DVDs chugging along and IN ORDER.

By July Season 1 will be over on TV, so I guess the DVDs will always be a halfseason behind whatever is on TV. We'll be 13 episodes behind by the time Season 2 starts.

Donnie will definitely get the bio on this one. I'm guessing that's what you mean.:twink:

Still, when this DVD comes out, that means we can get "Never Say Xever" and "The Gauntlet." I can't wait!:tgrin:

I'm guessing the third DVD will start with the Karai focused episodes and whatnot. That probably explains "I Monster" on this DVD.

Its interesting to note that Nick released a blu-ray of the Legend of Korra. Its possible given TMNT is their star property we'll get a Season 1 set after the season ends.

These DVDs are aimed at little kids, they're cheap so their parents will buy them. I doubt they're intended as collector sets.

this is pleasing news! i love the idea of the bios in the clamshell. and while i do hope for a blu-ray box set(wasnt aware of korra on blu-ray, which is promising news for tmnt), if there isn't one, which korra aside wouldnt be outta the ordinary, i can always make one. i did that with my thundercats reboot dvds. fun project and i'll prolly do it either way, to be honest, regardless of if a box set comes out or not.

but here's hoping one does! 8)

Well with the Legend of Korra coming out on blu ray in a few months, and TMNT being 100% owned by Nick, its quite possible we'll get a blu-ray set of Season 1 by September or so.

Season 1 will be over by July but the DVDs will only be up to ep 13.

If you're going to start collecting these you won't even have all of Season 1 on DVD till next year.

I hate to say it, especially since I was one of the ones griping about them going the DVD singles route...but I'm going to eat my words I think, and am probably going to start picking these up.

I did the math, and season one is confirmed to be 26 episodes right? The first volume had 6 episodes, this second one is going to have 7. The next two will have either 6 and 7 or 7 and 6 respectively, meaning it's only spread out over four discs. That's actually not all that bad, and seeing as how Volume 1 is still only like $9 at my local Wal-mart...yeah, I'm thinking I'm going to just go ahead and start picking these up, my DVD shelf will just have to suffer.

The long wait between releases is going to suck, but it does help my budget somewhat. Even I can afford roughly $10 on a TMNT DVD every few months. :P

The primary problems with the 2K3 turtles DVDs were:

1. Not enough episodes per disc
2. Overtime the episodes were released out of order
3. Box art didn't stay consistent.

As long as Nick doesn't fall into any of those traps, I have no problems with buying these types of sets. 4 Discs per season is totally reasonable.

Disagree about the 4kids box art. Seasons 1, 2, and the first two volumes of Season 3 all form that spine of the Turtles, plus the various styles later on had their distinct feel. That said, 6/7 episodes is still a lot more than 2 episodes back in the OT days on VHS, and even the 3/4/5 episodes of 4kids. Hopefully this means we'll get part 3 around Sept/Oct and perhaps part 4 of Season 1 with a possible Season set for the holidays. I'd love for season sets to have special features not found on the standard releases. But with Leatherhead, the Rat King, Baxter/Mousers, and the Turtles' first encounter with Shredder (note that the DVD's title was reportedly the working title for "The Gauntlet"), there's plenty of great action to be found on this set, with no real filler, save for perhaps "Monkey Brains". That said, I'm playing it conservative and waiting for some bulk lot on eBay to turn up when many of these sets are released (that's how I got the entire OT for around $50 and 4kids (minus Season 5 and Turtles Forever) for around $70.

You might as well get them as they come out, because the content would be pretty much the same as a season set as they are now, the same amount of episodes per disc, plus you'd be paying a lot more at one time being you're buying all the episodes at once..

Me personally, I'd rather pay 14.99 4 times than pay 49.99 once; it's just more convenient.

A blu-ray boxset of all of Season 1 will probably come out eventually. At this point there's no reason to buy non-HD episodes on out-of-date DVDs.

These DVDS are made cheaply to appeal to parents who buy them for their kids. They're not intended to be collector sets.

The Nick DVDs are in proper order. Jesus.

I wouldn't be so quick to get irate at other posters here.

It seems that - so far - you are wrong about Nick putting these in order on DVD. INFACT, Nick has already messed the whole thing up, if we're to base things on this 3rd volume announcement.

http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Volume-3/18664

If that announcement is true, and the third volume only has 12 episodes on 2 discs, then it looks like we are only getting 25/26 episodes from season 1 in these 3 volumes. Volume 1 had 6, volume 2 has 7, and this third release has 12 for a grand total of 25.

I am hoping to God it's a typo, but if not, it wouldn't surprise me. Even if they end up putting "I, Monster" on a 4th volume, it's still out of order, seeing as they're now obviously mixing season 1 episodes, with season 2 episodes.

So, it looks like things will be out of order, or worse, absent altogether.

marcelangelo
07-09-2013, 10:16 AM
the mistake lies here(in my oppinion):
I, monster.
where do some of you get the notion that somehow this specific episode won't be part of the dvd sets?!?
when you read the dvd set description neither of the three volumes states ANY episode titles, so there is nothing that can be said at this moment about the I monster episode.

and the number..well, the first disc had episodes till episode 6 metalhead
but rise of the turtles part 1 and 2 was always called ONE episode from the looks of it.so I think this will apply for the finale two episodes as well...
no need to worry...
also:most of the big worriers here dont end up buying the dvd versions anyway, so whats the point?!?

Gyt Kaliba
07-09-2013, 10:58 AM
Where did the worry that it's 'I, Monster' that would be skipped, come from? My worry was always that, if they were skipping anything, it was 'Parasitica' since we've been having a hell of a time getting that one to air in the US apparently...

Anyway, I'm now thinking they are probably just treating the finale as one episode, but they could have put that in the info to prevent from scaring the **** out of us. :P

This is correct, also going by this Volume 1 is not 6 episodes as everyone says, it is 5 episodes as the two part Pilot is also counted as 1 episodes.

So that 5 episodes on Volume 1
7 episodes on Volume 2, and 12 episodes on the upcoming Volume 3.

That's a total of 24 episodes, 22 half hour episodes and 2 two parters. Grand total of 26 episodes, so relax people; they're not cutting any episodes.

I would just buy them. At the Wal-Mart I went to, they were selling Volume 1 & 2 in a duel pack for 15 bucks. Basically a buck an episode.

Plus if they come out with season sets, just sell the volumes. The key thing is supporting the show.

As a person that saw a show that I thoroughly enjoyed never get completed on DVD because of poor sales via procrastinating fan support, it kills me to see fans not support a show that they enjoy because they assume they'll get more.

Yep, you got it. It is extremely frustrating to watch (just like the 4kids tragedy). People still wouldn't buy those split season sets until there was a "complete deluxe gold encrusted box set" which, of course, never happened. So now those fans are scrambling trying to get the split season sets that they crapped on years earlier because they had to see for themselves that there wasnt going to be anything better, and by then it was too late to help the full series get a release. So I would strongly encourage any fans to buy these sets to make sure you have them, just in case nothing else better comes along. And the 2 pack deal they have at Walmart is a pretty awesome deal. I am bummed I missed out on it. The only downside is you lose the slipcovers, but still I would have preferred to get the double pack instead.

From what I understand, they're releasing the episodes on DVD in the order they were produced, rather than the order they were aired on TV.
I think that's accurate?

Most likely. It looks like Donatello19 misunderstood. I went to the thread he talked about and there's a link there that leads to someone's review of "Enter Shredder" at Amazon, where it states that "I, Monster" isn't on that set. So it'll most likely be on the third volume.

By the way, I saw someone somewhere else say that some of the six episodes on the first volume are in the same order they premiered, although they should be in another order chronologically. Might anyone know anything about that? Is the guy right or wrong?

Im afraid there is a misunderstanding:
what there was said about vol 1(I have it at home) is this:
the dvd box says the vol 1 dvd features the first 5 episodes(instead of it being SIX episodes actually, combining the double parter ep 'rise of the turtles')

this was brought up to clarify that these three dvd sets WONT skip or leave out ANY episode, because we know the last two episodes will very likely be presented on the dvd as ONE big episode.
the chronology was referring to the argument that these dvd sets feature episodes in the rank they were produced, no necessarily in the way they were aired.

They could have, yes - but I'd venture a guess that a mutant alligator sounds more impressive and interesting to kids, so they went with that. That and they already had the Foot side of the issue covered with 'the evil Shredder', and in a way the evil scientist side with 'mechanical Mousers'.

A lot of the marketing for Leatherhead played him up to be a bad guy, so that the news of him being a hero would not be spoiled before you see the episode. They did this with his concept art previews as well.

Yup... One of his character trademarks is that of an initial antagonist through misunderstanding(usually due to him perceiving the turtles as a threat or in the case of Jess Harley, misguidance by Shredder). It's always interesting to me seeing all of the different takes on this interaction in the franchise. :tsmile:

Yes, that was because of having room to put the episodes on the disc . . . and to waste room by having scenes repeating after watching their special feature of "Mutation of a Scene.":tgrumble:

Cubed: Don't give people horrible advice.

No, seriously, the fact that Nick may release a scant few full-season sets for a few of their shows in NO way promises that TMNT will get the same treatment. In fact, as a property on its third cartoon interpretation, essentially a rehash of a rehash, I doubt TMNT is of the absolute highest priority as far as making a comprehensive DVD set appealing to grown-ups.

You've said it yourself multiple times: The current DVDs are aimed at kids, done on the cheap so that their parents will buy them. That's because they're marketing to their audience: kids. Nickelodeon has a long, long history of putting out half-assed, incomplete (and never to be completed, either) DVD sets of even their most popular shows. They only sell what they can justify. I doubt we'll get full-season TMNT sets from them, for the same reason we'll never, ever get the rest of "Clarissa Explains It All" on DVD: Who are they gonna market it to? To them (read: Nick executives), if you're a 20-something who still obsesses about "kids shows" to the point of absolutely needing a comprehensive DVD/blu-Ray set of every single episode, you're, shall we say, "not cool". They're not going to pander to a bunch of Gen Y crybabies on a message board and spend time and money on full season sets, in the hope enough grown ups are in enough of a state of arrested development to buy them, not when they can make much more money simply pandering to young kids and their parents with these bare-bones $10 discs.

It's not a phenomenon unique to Nick; Disney does it, too, a lot of super-hero cartoons get that treatment, they did it with the 4Kids TMNT, etc. It's the price we pay for being adults still obsessed with "kids stuff"; We, ourselves, are not and never again will be "The Audience"; we were the audience 25 years ago. You'd think that marketing people would be well aware and prepared to capitalize on the fact an entire culture exists of grown-ups who want to re-live their childhood, but sadly, that's often not the case. They make enough money from the actual audience, which is kids. If you or I or any other 20-something wants to drop a few bucks on their kid-friendly wares, sure, they'll welcome it and take our money, but by no means are we considered "essential" to market to. One could very well argue that said marketing people sorely underestimate how many of "us" there are, and I agree, but it changes absolutely nothing.

Consider: It took almost 10 years to get a full-series set of the Fred Wolf TMNT, and I'd argue a lot of that was simply them coming up with a way to get rid of unsold stock in a new case; it had nothing to do with giving the show a "proper" release. People nitpick and complain about how the TMNT cartoon DVDs have been done so far since the beginning, but seriously, you're spoiled if you expect better. What we got with the FW/4Kids DVDs is as good as we'll ever get for a TMNT release. Remember when they tried to actually "take care of Us" with complete season sets (well, half-seasons) of the 4Kids show, until the entire idea was scrapped because it made them no money with Seasons 1 and 2?

If you even want the hope of one day getting a comprehensive season/series set (which is NOT impossible, just very unlikely given Nick's history), the only way to make it happen is to buy these stand-alone DVDs and hope for the best. I long ago figured out that it's like a game with these companies: They don't release anything in completion unless it's super-popular; if enough people buy the stand-alone sets, the company usually does season/series sets later on, hoping that 1. The most loyal fans will have no problem double-dipping for a "better" version of what they already have, and 2. Anyone who missed out the first time can now jump in. It's the absolute surest way to maximize the amount of money earned, because it counts on a large number of the most hardcore fans paying twice for the exact same product, and it works almost every single time. It works because by their rules, if you skip the stand-alone sets, and the company doesn't make enough money, then forget EVER seeing those full sets, because the property is dubbed a "money-loser". It's a rigged game, but hey, it's about making money, not giving fanboys what they want. Let's just be realistic about that.

The best advice I could give anyone is to get every TMNT DVD set Nick puts out and hope that eventually entices them to release full seasons later on. F*ck it, they're cheap enough. Skipping these sets as they come out only promises they'll NEVER do a full season set. Seems contrary to common sense, but it has nothing to do with that, it's about money. Sometimes you gotta play the game their way to ever get what you want.

Very well put, Leo656, bravo. And I can vouch for the price tags making it easy enough to pick them up too, especially given that we're only getting a new DVD every 3 or 4 months. Hell, I only make minimum wage, and I can afford a $10 DVD every couple of months with ease. And there are far worse singles too, these at least have 6 to 7 episodes a disc - that's stellar compared to some shows I like that used to only be available in 3 episodes a disc format.

And anyway, this seems to be the last single one would have to deal with anyway. It seems like they're probably going to switch to two-disc 'half season sets' with the 3rd volume anyway.

On Blu-Ray and DVD, releases at the same time? Not a DVD release followed up by a Blu-Ray release which is what a TMNT release would be at the very least.

That's what we're trying to tell you guys, if they planned on doing a Blu-Ray release of the show, they would have put it out with the DVD releases simultaneously, and they would have done Season releases from the start. Meaning they have at this point and time, no plans to put Ninja Turtles on Blu-Ray, and if they do, won't be for a couple years down the line.

Re-read the very first sentence of my previous post, brotherrrrrrr.... "No, seriously, the fact that Nick may release a scant few full-season sets for a few of their shows in NO way promises that TMNT will get the same treatment."

It just doesn't. These DVD distribution companies don't do anything because it makes SENSE, they do what they think is going to make the most money short-term. Using ONE show that Nick bothered to do a full season set for as an example of how they HAVE to do the same for TMNT is silly, because for every one popular show they did "right" on DVD I could go on wikipedia and pull out 3 or 4 popular shows from Nick that have not and will never be done "right". I already dropped "Clarissa", and I'm actually not going on Wikipedia right now and am going clearly off the top of my head, but I'm reasonably sure Doug, Rugrats, Pete & Pete, Salute Your Shorts have not and will not have complete sets (I know Pete & Pete had one or two seasons released but to my knowledge there were no plans to finish it, as in ever, same as with Clarissa). That's just to name a few of the more popular Nick shows from back in the day who absolutely have fans who would pay far more than $10 for complete seasons on DVD. From that era, only Ren & Stimpy got proper DVD treatment, and that was barely a Nick show at all.

If we want to get away from Nick into TV shows in general, there's an even worse precedent...
-King of the Hill: Very popular prime time network show. Ten seasons in total, only 6 released on DVD, "officially" announced that seasons 7-10 will never be released on DVD due to "lack of consumer interest" (read: not enough people bought seasons 1-6).
-Superboy/Adventures of Superboy: Semi-obscure but very popular syndicated show firmly based on Silver Age Superman comics. Despite DC/WB having released seemingly every bit of Superman-related media on DVD back in 2005/6 for the lead-up to "Superman Returns", they infuriatingly chose only to release the first (and by far the WORST) season on DVD for commercial release. Season 2 exists, and Season 3 is coming, so the fourth and final season looks fairly likely, BUT there was a 7-year gap between the release of Season 1 and 2, and as far as I know, Season 2 and the rest are made-to-order from Amazon and not available in a wide release. A shame, because the show only got better as it went along, but most fans will never get to see it unless they search for it.
-Batman (Adam West version): I know there are issues regarding who has the rights to this, which is why it has not had (and may never have) a DVD release, but money fixes everything and WB is a giant media conglomerate with more money than God, so I absolutely have to think they could fix it if they *had* to. SO many people want this show on DVD, if only for nostalgia's sake, and since there seems to be no urgency on the part of WB about it (seriously, they made it a point to put out BOTH sh*tty 1940s Batman serials, but can't be bothered to re-acquire the rights to the 60s show? WTF?!), I have to figure it comes down to the usual reason: "Don't Give A Sh*t."

Those are just a few examples to illustrate why absolutely NOTHING promises we'll ever see full-season (or eventually complete series) DVD sets of Nick's TMNT cartoon. They COULD do it; they SHOULD do it. I HOPE they do it. But I'm not going to hold my breath for it, no way in hell. I'm going to do the sensible thing: buy the stuff we have available right now, and if they do the right thing in a couple years, I'll upgrade and either re-sell or re-gift the original, bare-bones copies. If everyone said "I'm going to wait for the full set", we'd never get anything. It just doesn't make sense. The regular sets cost around $10, and the complete season sets of the OT only cost $10-$15 when they came out, so really, it's not a grand expenditure to support the franchise by buying into the bare-bones sets and upgrading later if it becomes an option.

EDIT: As a lazy old coot, I tend to use DVD as a catch-all term. Feel free to add the newfangled "blu-Ray" term wherever applicable in the above rant.

Shows get rereleased all the time. These DVDs will go out of print in a few years. They will then try to make money off the kids who watched it when they're teens and want a nostalgia fix.

Cubed: You and me agree on lots of stuff, so when we don't it really irritates me. Stop it. 8)

You're using what's called "circular logic". You're contradicting yourself in trying to prove your own point. If you read carefully, you'd get that the fact that Nick is releasing the Turtles DVDs is pretty much WORSE than if someone else did them, because Nick has a long, sloppy history of poor, incomplete, or non-existent DVD releases of their shows, even the most popular ones. The fact they did a full season set of ONE of their popular shows recently does NOT mean they will do the same for TMNT. In fact, if we follow history, Korra fans should be pretty nervous, because usually when Nick releases a full Season One set of a show, that's usually ALL they do. They almost NEVER finish their shows on DVD. They are notoriously BAD AT THIS. That's the entire point I was trying to make in my earlier posts.

We both love TMNT to death, and trust me, I'm just as fanatical in my devotion, I'm just way more quiet about it. But we can't over-estimate TMNT and build it up into being bigger or more popular than it really is, or expect that these corporate suits who get paid to decide what gets released will cave in and do the Right Thing regarding Season sets just because we would really like them to. If people "wait" for full season sets, and don't buy the bare-bones DVDs, Nick won't "take the hint" and do season sets anyway, they'll just say "Eh, nobody cares about this TMNT show. Let's shelve it."

When the Season 1 set does come out, I will absolutely let you "I told ya so" all over me, because I'm cool like that. I'll just be pleasantly surprised if it happens before I'm officially middle-aged. :)

I agree with Leo here that the best thing to do is to buy these DVDs first just in case that full season set doesn't come out because at least you're supporting the show. And since the third volume is coming out three months from now, that's a pretty good thing since it means we'll get the full season before the year is over. I'm definitely going to get this DVD since it has one of my favorite episodes on it. It may not be right away, but I will get it eventually.

I couldn't find it anywhere in my city, and this explains why. That's pretty odd - it's not like there's usually a delay on most DVD/Blu-ray releases. I don't see how the rating system could cause a month's delay, either. Hmmph.

Amusing that people are still going on about the potential for a BRD release. I've resigned myself to accepting my HD iTunes copies may be the best I ever get. Honestly it's not even a big deal since I can play my iTunes copies in more ways and in more places than I could a BRD, so it kinda works to my advantage.

I'd still buy a BRD season set though... so if Nick wants more money from me, they know how to get it. I won't touch DVDs.

The truth is, the Turtles have always had a crappy history with DVD's. And it's not just one company, but it seems ALL Companies seem to screw up when it comes to the Ninja Turtles.

Warner Bros/New Line Cinema: The first live action film having no special edition in site (despite a '20th anniversary' that passed, a '25th anniversary of the characters themselves' that passed, a 'new movie/the CGI one' which passed)...All Solid Occasions to do a Special Edition. And nothing.

LionsGate: The 80's cartoon series, I think it's been said just how much LionsGate screwed that up. "missing episodes" which then magically appear, Out of Order, putting 12 episodes on one disc thus poorer picture quality, and much upon much more.

4Kids: The 2003 Cartoon. It's the point where I have countless friends who would Love to own that show on DVD, but they can't unless they need to put up a fortune in money. A series that BADLY needs a re-release into Box Sets. Even the last season was never released on DVD (except somewhere Overseas I believe, I think Australia). And no word from anyone, including Nick, on Anything being done with that series. At least DVD wise.

The Turtles Forever DVD being full screen, the 'Cut' version, poor DVD cover, No Extras. Just a really crappy job. Best bet for that one is to get one overseas which is Widescreen, has the Missing Minutes put back in, and a much better cover.

And now this show. I would not hold your breath for a "Complete Box Set/Season 1" anytime soon. Or Nick getting their head out of their Ass and learning from past mistakes from Other Companies.

It's simple. The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same.

That means if you also pre-order Ultimate Showdown for $14.99 at the same time it will bring the total above $25 thus earning you free shipping.

Is a HD release with 5.1 audio really too much to ask??? I honestly don't care if it's digital or physical format. I just want to be able to play back these episodes commercial free in their original high quality recording. Is this not 2013??

Just watched some of my DVD today. I haven't checked out the special features yet, but I'll get to that. Can't wait to see more Mutation of a Scene special features as well as the comic.

It says on the DVDs that it's in "Full Screen Format". However, the only thing in full screen on them is the opening intro to the title menu. Everything else, is in widescreen, as it's meant to be seen.

If the episodes on the DVD really are in widescreen, I still have to find a way to set my Blu-ray player to make them show that way. I also don't want to stretch the picture out to full, because some parts of the picture get cut off that way.

My DVD says that it's fullscreen, not widescreen.

So I finally got my hands on this awesome DVD from Tescos and I'm surprised it actually made it to the Top 30 DVD/Blu-rays chart and its #2 for Animation DVD's for that store (which mind you, Tesco is one of the biggest stores in the UK)

Quite impressive. :) Good to know The Gauntlet got the ratings it deserved!

I'm waiting for Season 1 on Blu-ray. SD just doesn't cut the mustard for me anymore for me. If I do buy the DVD's it would just be to stick them on the shelf as a collectors item. But that seems like it could get pricey.

Hello, can I ask you a question?
I live in Chile and I like to buy this DVDs (Rise of the Turtles and Enter the Shredder), can you confirm which episodes "Enter the Shredder" includes?

I will have to pay a lot of money in shipping, so I want to be shure of what I'm buying... and have all the episodes.

Thanks Beforehand

The quality is great and Im rewatching them. I love this DVD. If they release a full season 1 blu-ray I'll buy it and give the dvd to a friend. In the meantime I'll enjoy them. I dont regret buying them :D

Question: I didn't see any poster inside, do you guys have it?

Noticing that Rise was Leo focused and Enter Shredder was Donnie, and Raph looks like the star of Ultimate Showdown, are we assuming Nick will at least give us 1 Season 2 DVD?

I was wondering if anyone here could help me.

I recently bought the dvds 'Rise of the Turtles' and 'Enter the Shredder'. Judging from the profiles on the inside of the cases, the first season is going to have four different dvds each with a dif. turtles profile. Donnie and Leo being the first two.

Have the next two dvds come out yet? If so, where could I buy them? ^_^ Thank you for any help you can give.

The next DVD comes out on October 1st, and that will finish up the first season. The one after that actually seems like it may be a re-release of the "Rise of the Turtles" DVD, and it's scheduled for release on October 15th. In fact, it appears to be some sort of gift set.
