Why weren't Bebop, Rocksteady, Splinter, and other mutants effected by this? Why only the turtles? This is why I think the whole "mutation being unstable" thing is stupid.

You are applying a level of logic that the initial writers of the show were not concerned with. Alot of stuff in the OT was pretty dumb, the red sky years especially.

This wasn't exclusive to the cartoon, it happens in Mirage and 4kids too.

Actually, Donatello did mention a possibility of it happening to Splinter at the end of Dregg of the Earth, even though it didn't happen.

Would unstable mutations be more acceptable had it happened during say the mid-seasons as opposed to the twilight of the series? Turning into giant monsters would increase strength but it would hinder mobility.

Bad Batch of mutagen? Maybe had something to do with what the mutagen mixed with in the sewer?

But then why wasn't splinter effected? well that could be age, fact he was human first then animal, or maybe being a ninja master able to control his body more.

Or its a cartoon and we are over thinking this ;).

And correct me if i'm wrong but other then carter and splinter, is there any other mutants around when the turtles start going mutate crazy. Maybe it does happen to the others. maybe that could explain why Rocksteady and Bebop are absent when they bring back Shredder and Krang. They went berserk and Shredder and Krang abandoned them.

Still, it didn't help the series. It wasn't needed at all.

The mutations were only used for 8 episodes of the last 16. They didn't start till the third episode of Season 9, and they ended in the second episode of Season 10.

I never understood where people got the idea that the Turtles mutations were used for the entire Red Sky era. They were only used for a measly 8 episodes.

The turtes' hands mutated in the 2nd Season 9 episode.

If you want to try and apply logic to it...

Bebop & Rocksteady were mutated in a controlled environment. A lab with proper tools & measurements, overseen by a scientific mind or two. They were already fully grown, so the mutagen changed their form, not their stages of growth.

The turtles were splashed to high heaven, at a young age. The ooze affected them in the developmental stage of their life, changing the way they would grow as they got older. A higher dose at a tender age caused insanity to ensue.

Splinter was already a relatively old man, his body had been through all of its processes already. No more growing for him. He mutated prior to the turtles, perhaps being exposed to it before them, in smaller quantities.

We of course don't see Bebop an Rocksteady again after Turtle Trek (Turtles Forever withstanding) but I wonder, since they and Splinter/Hamato Yoshi were mutated from humans and the Turtles became human, their mutations could be enhanced at some point whereas like Irma and Vernon in Were Rats From Channel Six, they would transform back to human form rather than an enhanced and wild second stage mutation.

Pretty sure the turtles were exposed to the mutagen first. Splinter was exposed as he got the turtles out of the mutagen puddle.

Getting my origins mixed up. Either way, that too serves to be a good explanation. They were fully immersed, whereas he only got some on his hands. Enough to mutate once, and never again.

Or.....the writer or writers just wanted to add more drama to the later seasons. The turtles "hulking up" randomly was unnecessary and not needed.
I like them as their normal selves without the cyber suits, monster transformations, and other gimmicks.

Again their mutations only happened in 8 episodes.

Makes sense. Which origin has Splinter mutated first?

You're the one who made a thread acting as if there should be a logical explanation, homeboy. Now you've got one.

Maybe because the TMNT were animals first? And Splinter, Bebop and Rocksteady were humans first?

Furthermore, why didn't it apply to Mondo? Or Leatherhead, Groundchuck/Dirtbag, etc?

Aside from Casey Jones, sadly all their allies were swept under the rug during the Red Sky seasons. And the mutations were caused by stress as Donatello mentions in "Return of Dregg" after the stabilizations. So maybe they didn't mutate because there was no need?
