Greetings everyone!
Well, it looks like we're back to the same Saturday morning schedule. It'll be airing at 11am EST, so make sure you set your DVR (or VHS, for us lo-tech types)
Alright, so the April and Karai Conspiracy theorists will definitely be tuning in this week. Apparent while the boys are trying to sneak into another Kraang base, it seems the Foot Clan will be working on a special project of their own.
Apparently Karai's pet Kraang has turned into a regular stool-pigeon, and boy has he been singing. The Shredder's finding out some Very interesting information about our young April. There's a lot more to April than we have been shown, and she now looks like something that the foot could have good leverage with..
So off Karai goes, ready to hogtie April and drag her back to the Shredder. But when Karai tries to take her captive, it seems the show is about to drop a major bombshell that could change everything about what she knows about the turtles, April and even herself.
This could be the big moment where Karai sees Splinter for the first time, or we could learn that April's part alien robot, anything is possible at this point.
WILL APRIL AND KARAI HAVE THEIR FIRST CAT FIGHT?!
WILL WE FIND OUT MORE ABOUT KARAI'S BACKGROUND?!
IS APRIL A ALIEN, ROBOT, NEUTRINO, DRAWING, GENETIC EXPERIMENT OR SOME OTHER CRITTER?!
WILL SPLINTER FINALLY GET HIS BUTT OUT OF THE LAIR AND FIGHT?!
Stay Tuned!!!

Okay, opening this early, no riff raff! :P
Great episode, just zoomed by.
"Mikey! That victory dance better not last more than 4 seconds!"

Good stuff, that sea monster in love bit was veeeery awkward though.
Regarding the Karai-April fight, the actual hand-to-hand combat bit went about as I expected it would, and it's probably about how their little confrontation in the 2007 movie should have gone as well, with the girl in yellow being hopelessly outclassed.
Gotta love how both April & Karai had the foresight to make sure they put on their helmets for the motorcycle chase in the heat of the moment. Safety first!

Best episode yet! (I say that every week, don't I?)
What an explosive episode!
-April is immune to Kraang water!?!
-Turtle soup Karai? That's harsh...
-Cool to see Karai in civillian clothes... The same from her trading card!
-That Monster from Dimension X... So different from Traag...I wonder what else lies beyond that portal.
-It fell in LOVE with the SUB!!! :tlol:
-Poor April.. She really got hurt out there! But she pulled through and made it home alive!
-Looks like April will be staying with her "brothers" in the sewer from now on... I wonder what she will tell her aunt?
This was Russ and Ron's last episode they wrote for the series, and they did an amazing job! :tgrin:

Got a chance to see it this morning. Have to admit I had it on tv in the background, not really paying much attention. I really paid attention to the Karai April stuff, I liked the whole chase and eventually April and Karai fight. It was nice that April didn't totally kick Karai's butt in the first battle, it keeps Karai strong.

What an explosive episode!
-April is immune to Mutagen!?!
That was not mutagen, it was "Kraang Water", water found in dimension x that doesn't react well with earth and things/people on it.

Leo and Karai didn't interact at all in this episode. Karai finds out that April lost her mother, and she did too since she is Miwa, and she lost Tang Shen, her mother.

Certainly adds credence to the theory that April might be a native being of Dimension X, doesn't it?

I'm sorry but this is probably my least favourite Episode right now. :( Everything had a strong build up and the premise was there...but all of that was executed abysmally!
First of all, NOTHING was revealed in this Episode. The closest we got was that Dimension X Liquid dropping on April and having no effect. THATS IT!
Secondly, the pacing was just bad. We went from the first act (which was actually the best part of the episode) straight to the third act! WTF was up with that. The whole time I was expecting some sort of bombshell being dropped at the end but that never happened.
Finally, that April & Karai fight scene was by far the worst I've seen in this series! There was no tension, no sense of danger when it was clearly needed. The ending was so abrupt and half-assed that I almost didn't even believe this kind of poor quality Episode happened.
I didn't mean to be so negative but that is my honest opinion. Best part of the episode was the Dimension X Creature (Again, that love scene was just not needed and it seemed half-assed the way the writers put it) and the undersea Kraang base was pretty cool.
This has been the first Episode to truly dissapoint me on EVERY level! I'm sorry but this Episode had nothing to offer. Almost Terrible :(
(4/10) "Karai's Vendetta" :( Hoping next time, they come up with something better.

I really liked Shredder and Karai trying to communicate with that Kraang at the beginning. But my question is, where did Dogpound and Fishface go? We didn't see them in the last episode OR this one, you'd think that we'd at least see them hanging around Shredder's lair...oh, and I'm happy that April is living with the turtles now, because now we'll see more of her. This has got to be my favorite incarnation of April yet! Oh, and Splinter licking Raph
Is she really immune to Kraang water? Something told me (if I can recall) that the water hit her bracelet and nothing happened. What if her bracelets are of alien origin?
Yet, I could be wrong. What do you think?
I thought I saw some of it splash onto her wrist... Speaking of those, it is cool to see she has "arm wraps" like the Turtles. I never really noticed that until today.

What are you talking about? April is now officially living with the turtles, Shredder and Karai have that Kraang captive, April is immune to the Kraang water, and we discovered that she lost her mother, AND they further foreshadowed Karai as Miwa, with her relating to April losing her mother, as she lost Tang Shen. Yeah, this episode can be skipped for sure!

WOW What a stunning revelation now that April is living with the turtles! That NEVER HAPPENS!
We knew Shredder had the Kraang captured last episode.... and all the foreshadowing stuff does NOT carry a 22 Minute Episode!
So I rest my case, NOTHING Happened and the stuff that did happen e.g the Karai fight were executed abysmally!

I liked that his advice also made a clever call back to his previous fight with Leatherhead, using his opponents weakness (his size) to win the fight.

Great episode
-We get too see Shredder questioning the krang.
-The krang water had no effect on April.
-April's mother is dead(well at least as far as she knows).
-April has to live with the turtles.
-Fun training sequence with splinter, April, and the turtles.
-April may have lost her fan weapon.
-Fight between April and Karai was fun and painful.
-Chase scenes were great.
-April outsmarting Karai also great.
-Sea monster was from Dimension x, not a mutant.
-The Krang that Shredder captured is still alive.
-Still no Baxter, Dogpound, or Fishface.
-Karai's facial expression when April threw her.
-April took a real beating in this episode but kept fighting.
-Donnie's Turtle Sub.
-April learning a lesion meant for Mikey.
-April calling the turtles, her brothers.
-Karai's choice of turtle soup.

Love Mikey's comment about "not (being) that kind of sub". Real cheeky, guys.
A good episode for me. I enjoyed both the Turtles and April in this one. Seeing April try her hardest to hold her own against a greater opponent was great. She's been stepped on by life a lot, and I get that she wants to do something about that.
I also liked that she got her butt kicked; I think it's brave of the show's writers to throw off the 'safety' every once in awhile and get serious. That it happened to April of all people is even better. Anyway, hope she gets in more of her licks later down the line.

-April learning a lesion meant for Mikey.
I like how the Nick episodes generally tie the conclusion in which some important line of dialogue from the beginning of the episode.
I noticed while Splinter was sparring with April in the early bits, he made a point to draw her attention to the match between Raph & Mikey, probably hoping that she could pick up some lesson from example.

Just wanted to bring up another point. Minor complaint, but the human designs in this show have never been one of its' strong points. Karai's design and proportions just kind of bugged me in this one. Seeing her teeny tiny hand next to April's big hand is one rather jarring instance, especially since they're supposed to be around the same age. Her design also gives her long legs, which is cool when she's jumping around. When she's jogging, not so much.
Cartoony proportions in CG have a tendency to look more 'off' than when they're 2D. It takes the right people to be able to move them in a way that looks good; Jack Skellington is a character that comes to mind: he also has long spindly limbs, so he takes longer and more graceful strides when he runs and walks. This is all subjective of course. I do appreciate the amount of work that goes into this show (the water in the previous episode was gorgeous). It's probably the best looking CG show out right now.

I thought like the scenes from the Space Heroes of the Away Team always needing to be saved from death were a great foreshadowing of April's plight in this episode. And that bit from Space Heroes was very, very funny.

Based on the preview clip, Nick did a good job of picking something from the climax of the episode where both the Turtles and April were in trouble. It felt like both could have been kidnapped (especially April as she nearly ran out of energy while battling Karai). I also like the function of the Turtle Sub or what ever it's called; the love portion by the monster was one of the most clever parts of the episode. I wish the episode ended with Shredder angry over Karai, or at least telling him that Murakami supports them.
It will be interesting what April needs to do since this would be the first version in which she wouldn't have an overworld job and it seems that Nick is making her a brave fighter. Well, wouldn't be funny if April's mother just turned out to be Mona Lisa who got mutated by the Kraang and was sentenced to Dimension X?
Overall: 8/10

I am not sure what you were expecting from the fighter between April and Karai? She[April] was outmatched by Karai April was able to catch her off guard. You just can't please everyone.:trolleye:
I thought it was cool that Splinter is teaching April Japanese as well. Her and karai giving thanks in the form of "Itadekimasu" was a nice touch.
Am I the only one that thinks they pretty much confirmed that April likes Donnie now.
The way they commingaled together at the beginning makes it seems that the care factor is mutual.
Also the part where Donnie asks his brothers what April and him were busy doing, and the sudden silence that followed.

I really enjoyed the episode. My only gripe that I'm having right now is why April is immune to Kraang water. I hope she's still human and not an alien.
Other than that, seeing Karai in street clothes was cool. I'd sure love to see the turtles wear disguises soon. I'd love that.:tcool:
Also, I think Splinter hasn't been doing anything because the show really focuses on the turtles. That's why Splinter does not get much of the spotlight.

With all those complaining that nothing was revealed in this episode, can I just say, yeah.. you are right about that. How-ever some-thing else happened, this episode had lasting consequences
Which is even better than revealing stuff, not every episode have to reveal stuff, but having a consequence of the action, that's really good.
And the consequence, April is also stuck in the sewers now!
Loved the Donnie and April interaction in this one, the two were very sweet together. I also thought it was kind of cool that the episode actually took it's time for Karai and April to hang a bit out before it turned into the chase scene.
Pretty suspenseful action packed episode, I liked it a lot.
And man, this Splinter is hillarious, I mean his and Raphs scene.. I found it to be gold, every last second of it X)

I won't have time to post on the blog til later tonight, but I'm glad the April VS Karai went down the way it should have.
April was absolutely no match for Karai AT ALL. She only won through sheer luck and knocking her down a flight of stairs. And honestly, the only way anyone could win a fight against someone that outranks them in skill is by luck and some outside circumstance. I liked that they didn't make her defeat Karai in an all-out fight.
So basically speaking, April didn't really win. She just managed to get away. Similar to how the Turtles got away from Shredder when he was distracted by Chris and Xever.
I did miss the first seconds of the show, before Karai put the Kraang in the robot suit so it could talk. Did I miss anything interesting?
And why do people keep asking for Baxter? I do understand Chris and Xever should still be around.... but did anyone NOT see Baxter get away from them to do his own thing? He no longer works for them. He's back to solo-super villain.

Yeah, but I loved how he was off to one side as April retold her encounter with Karai, clearly he's conflicted.
I still say April is at least part Neutrino, that's why water from Dem. X wouldn't affect her.
Hey and you know, Mikey pretty much almost killed April in this episode...if she wasn't something besides human, that water would've MELTED her!!! :o
Loved this episode. Shredder questioning the Kraang, the sub Donnie built, the guys pedaling for their lives, Karai and April's interactions before the fight, the fight...Donnie's ever growing feelings for April...!! Loved it all!! :tgrin:

Yes, I thought for a moment that Karai was somehow going to recognize the symbol or something, but maybe not.
Still wondering how she's gonna react to finding out who she really is...would she harbor resentment at Splinter for never coming to find her, or would she be angry with Shredder for taking her? i'd imagine that Saki actually may have SAVED her from the fire...ever wonder how he got all burned up??? it was pretty damn good.
they are really hinting april could be something thats not human!
my jaw drop when the sewer water hit her wirst.
i kept thinking "is she an alien?" dunno about robot. alien seems more logical to me.
what i noticed though is, April has don on her T-phone with lil hearts on it, strongly suggesting she may have feelings for him.
boy, the don/April fans are gonna love this, while TMNT fans will either be accepting of this, or get really piss about it.
i know some fans out there wont like the idea.
me? i find it cute. yet shocking that theres a slight chance of her accepting don's feelings and might return those feelings? who knows.
be really something to see a triangle when casey comes around.
alls i can say is, i really enjoyed the episode.
what made my jaw go wide open is when karai lost her concentration when april said she lost her mother.
leaving me to believe karai could be (i repeat COULD be) be splinter's daughter. --- which makes me wonder howleo's reaction would be when he'll find out about this. -- whole thing is just having me on the edge of my seat.
what april is,
what leo will think IF karai is the daughter of his master,
and the fact is --are they really gonna have don and april cannon?
this show, i swear, best tmnt show ever.

it was pretty damn good.
they are really hinting april could be something thats not human!
my jaw drop when the sewer water hit her wirst.
i kept thinking "is she an alien?" dunno about robot. alien seems more logical to me.
what i noticed though is, April has don on her T-phone with lil hearts on it, strongly suggesting she may have feelings for him.
boy, the don/April fans are gonna love this, while TMNT fans will either be accepting of this, or get really piss about it.
i know some fans out there wont like the idea.
me? i find it cute. yet shocking that theres a slight chance of her accepting don's feelings and might return those feelings? who knows.
be really something to see a triangle when casey comes around.
alls i can say is, i really enjoyed the episode.
what made my jaw go wide open is when karai lost her concentration when april said she lost her mother.
leaving me to believe karai could be (i repeat COULD be) be splinter's daughter.

^That's really interesting, I would've never guessed that. The guys working on this show are really sneaky
Anyway, it was cool to see Spike again, I don't think anyone mentioned that yet. My favorite line was when Donnie started shouting "My beautiful little princess is ok!" (or something along those lines) and Donnie asks April if it was muted, and she told him "let's just say it was" XD

I thought this episode was really good! It showed off some of what Splinter has taught April yet it also showed that she has much to learn. I am glad that Karai got the best of her considering Leo struggled previously while fighting Karai. I hate when shows have inexperienced characters defeat feared villains or at least hold their own.
For those who are saying that this episode basically did not serve a purpose, I feel that having April introduced to Karai is something very important. Especially if the Miwa guess is correct (great find with the harmony/miwa connection too!! :)). Splinter has kind of taken April under his wing, almost as a father figure, and now the adopted daughter has potentially met her Sensei's true daughter. Not only that but with April not being affected by the Kraang water, when we finally find out what that means we will know when the Turtles first figured out that she was different by tracing that particular scene back to this episode. I am really hoping that she is half Neutrino or another explanation that does not necessarily make her some sort of robot. This show has been well written thus far and I hope that continues! I am guessing we will see a great cliffhanger to end the season.

Week after week this show is shaping out to be my favorite incarnation of the TMNT (outside of the comicbook world that is).
Something that impressed me about this ep was how mature it seemed. I mean, yes, from time to time the turtles would show up and lay down a few jokes to ease up the tension, but the whole Karai vs April thing? That was intense (especially when Karai just pummels April into the ground out of jealousy; the turtle soup thing was pretty awesome too).

Why in the world do fans even theorize that April is part robot?
What basis is there for that idea and how would that explain any of her "universal vibration" sensitivity or her immunity to the ill-effects of Dimension X water?
And while I'm at it with question asking, can anyone confirm for me whether April was able to retrieve Splinter's fan after the Karai fight?

If she did retrieve the fan it was done offscreen.

While we're at it with question asking, they showed that Donnie's feelings for April's saftey is starting to distract him during missions now.
Any chance this may be setting up his feelings for her getting them all in trouble in later episodes.

Another great episode. Things are slowly coming together and it makes me anticipate the big reveal even more. I'm a little more convinced then before that April is...something. At this point it's pretty clear that's she's something that can survive in Dimension X. The April and Karai stuff was intense and it makes me kind of glad to see an episode not completely turtle based.

"We're not that kind of sub" Oooohhh boy :) Love that subversive humor.
Karai is definitely more powerful and skilled than April, I think the fight scene showed that. But she used cunning to throw her off guard for a split second which is all that was needed. I think the problem here is Karai drastically underestimated April which was a mistake. Basically, April got lucky. It's a slippery slope to show April winning against Karai so early... but I think the show executed it well.
In their next meeting she probably won't be so lucky.
Really liked this episode!

My favorite is Splinter licking Raphael. I really like how underhanded he is. I was expecting April doing that too, but I guess the mom dialogue would make Karai appear more human as she sympathized.
I'm amused how Shredder and Karai are so relaxed and unassuming squeezing info from the kraang. It feels like this is how they usually spend their father/daughter time.
Don's feelings are messing up his concentration. Huge disadvantage right there, but at least Mikey saves the day.
And I'm glad April and Karai met, had a chase scene and ends in a fight. Really intense how the show made it clear Karai's a more powerful fighter. I really winced how Karai beat April to a pulp, it looked like she wasn't holding back that much.
And poor April has the drop off from the surface. :/

I felt the same way, every time the turtles came back on I literally groaned because I was enjoying April and Karai so much, but they've got to have the turtles doing SOMETHING. I think it would've been cool if the Kraang captured them and they were trying to escape during the episode, that could have been funny.

She got a shot in, then managed to throw her down a flight of stairs... I'd call that a win. By the same token, April was able to knock out Karai in TMNT Part 4.

And I can't get over how this show got away with...
1) Don telling the others what he and April are up to. There was so much awkward silence of the three (that Leo even turns off his favorite tv show) I was stunned.
2) The lochness monster, and the happy noises. Classic expressions.
3) Mikey saying out loud it's not that kind of sub.
And guys don't convince Andrew. If he thinks tripping your distracted opponent to the stairs = April is a better martial artist after weeks of training then let him.

Come on, Andrew, even you have to admit the only reason April survived that fight was because Karai started playing around with the fight and then distracted by thoughts of mothers. April was just lucky Karai made the poor choice to stand so closely to those stairs.
And... maybe April has some latent alien physiology that allows her to recover from a harsh beating quicker than normal humans. :tlol:

Finally, that April & Karai fight scene was by far the worst I've seen in this series! There was no tension, no sense of danger when it was clearly needed. The ending was so abrupt and half-assed that I almost didn't even believe this kind of poor quality Episode happened.
Wow, goes to show you how someone can have a totally different reaction to something that was fantastic. The April and Karai fight was very intense and really pushed the envelope in terms of showing April really get hurt.
I never thought we'd actually see April really getting beaten up, knocked to the ground, choked, and thrown over. I actually felt really sorry for April there. I must give Nick credit for going well above and beyond a typical kids show.
Seriously, why aren't more people shocked at how badly they showed April get beat up on-screen? What other children's show has a 16 year old beaten around like that? Sure there was no blood/scratches but that was to be expected.

The fact that she got up right after and 'defeated' Karai made it seem like she wasn't beaten up badly at all. It made me mad that she got up right away. I would feel differently if the Turtles came to save her at the end or if Karai kidnapped her.

Not really, she was coughing and panting. The scene with her talking to the Turtles in the lair after was probably at least a half hour later.

I wasn't talking about 30 minutes later when she was in the lair. I'm talking about the fact that April got up immediately after Karai knocked her down in the alley. If she gets up immediately to beat Karai then it makes what Karai did to her insignificant.

Have you never been in a fight in real life or seen tournaments? Getting hit hard in the chest or stomach will cause you to cough and gasp for breath.
April was very hurt. Now obvious broadcast standards can't allow blood or whatnot, and I would have liked to see bruises (like the Turtles had after the Shredder fight), but it was pretty intense. Calling something insignificant when she literally got pummeled over Karai's knee and kicked in the face to the ground is ridiculous.

A lifetime of training, you don't get distracted like that. Period.
While I do roll my eyes at it, I can forgive it as story-wise I do see both a foreshadowing now and a payoff later happening... Karai is obviously Hamato Yoshi's daughter and when she finds out that who she thinks is her dad is actually responsible for her mom's death some serious sh*t is going to hit the fan.

It's kinda acceptable if the one beating her is of equal age. It would have looked tons worse for the censors if it was Shredder kicking the snot out of April.
I do agree with the other comments about April walking away as if nothing happened. Walking slowly while holding her arm (of course for a second before the scene cuts away to something else, not actually showing her limp for 10 minutes) would have worked better. But we can't really say much. Most cartoons do that. I've seen too many series where cartoons are beaten, blasted or tortured with what looks to be in agony... and yet the second they're rescued, they get right back up as if nothing happened.

That's still a lot longer than just a few weeks, a month at the most. It's like saying some kid at a martial arts dojo can take down Chuck Norris. Karai not being that old when she started her training makes no difference since she obviously has a few years under her belt. Not to mention she's better skilled than the regular Foot Ninja, who do have a lifetime of training.

Once again, April stood no chance against Karai. Even her weapon was useless, and I thought they were going to make use of it. I've rewatched the first 3 times now and I can't get over how brutal it is for a kids show.
April was getting the **** beaten out of her and was lucky enough there was a subway to throw Karai down where they were fighting. I don't see any way she could have gotten away otherwise.

I have to admit the moment Splinter licked Raphael I thought April will kiss Karai to distract her. Was right about distract part, but not the way.
Sub was great, best part was periscope...when it was lowered I could not help but to laugh. Leonardo was rather shocked I think.
About the fight my main problem was also that April seemed to shrug off the hits from Karai surprisingly well. I hope there is more to it than just artistic liberty (or whatever you call it), tied to why Kraang wants her for example. Concerning resolution to the fight: idea was not so bad, but implementation felt PIS to me as in my opinion that comment should not have had such effect.
I also wonder who has the fan now, probably April as she needs a weapon and Karai has hers already.

While Donnie was worried about April did you notice how cold Leo was about it especially since it was Karai attacking her and he helped make her a more dangerous enemy. You would think that he would show some concern especially how mad he made her in there last encounter and finding out she is Shredder's daughter.

If you go on Kenny Byerly's Twitter, he says that you shouldn't believe in the synopsis from Wikipedia or random websites. (Like how I was dissapointed when we got nothing revealed when in reality, they weren't planning to reveal anything.)
He said that might be the reason some people were dissapointed in this Episode, and I completely agree. If they didn't hype this Episode so much, then maybe I would've enjoyed it way better. This along with Ciro Nieli's comment "We wanted to have a great 'Series' not just a 'Season', which is why we're moving the plot carefully and slowly" is making me understand the crew behind the show are very clever and understanding so the only thing dissapointing me really, was those stupid rumors.
I'm now not as angry as I was first watching the Episode and get to appreciate the pacing of the plot in the series as they are trying to carry it over to the next few seasons! So now I'm kinda happy with the way this Season is going and the way this Episode paid off.
Still, Can't wait for the Next Episode! "Parasitica" should be another great character-centric Episode for Michelangelo (Just wished we got more Leo ones...) :D

That reminds me, they didn't tell Splinter she's Shredder's daughter it seems? It's training as usual. But eh, it's not like Splinter to jump to conclusion either - she might not be Miwa at all. The hints could be red herrings. We only have bits and pieces but not the whole puzzle.

Seriously, why aren't more people shocked at how badly they showed April get beat up on-screen? What other children's show has a 16 year old beaten around like that? Sure there was no blood/scratches but that was to be expected.
Yeah it was kind of too much. I get that they are trying to portray the show to two different audiences, but it is still a kids show. There were other less violent ways to go about that scene than just letting April take a beating. I honestly though that she was knocked out cold after the first punch to the face, and even then I thought it was kind of too much.
Oh and the 'guess what April and I've been up to' scene was EPIC. Coming to think about it, why isn't that one on the poll? :trazz:

Wow! What an episode. The April and Karai fight was awesome, and I really feel the writers handled it well by letting Karai beat the sh*t out of April like that. Yes, April did beat her, but she was still fighting and trying to hold Karai off, and she only won out of pure luck by distracting her with the mother comment and then was able to throw her down the stairs. It reinforced the lesson Splinter was teaching Mikey about there always being a way to defeat your opponent, which was executed nicely here. I know there are others who will disagree with me, but that's okay. I loved it.
It was also nice to see Spike, Space Heroes, and Murakami again. Those were great touches.
The monster latching onto the sub was priceless as was the awkward moment where Don asked everyone what he and April were up to. So great how they can get away with this adult humor in the show. Awesome.
Overall, I thought this episode was great, and I can't wait to see more. Poor April now has to spend time in the sewers. I wonder what she'll say to her aunt?
Favorite quotes:
Mikey: Booyakasha! You got faced. You thought you had me, but I played you like a trombone. *makes trombone noise*
Raph: Oh, it isn't over, tough guy.
Mikey: Let me go!
Raph: Why don't you tap out?
Mikey: I can't move my arms.
Raph: So use your horribly stinky middle toe instead.
Mikey: *waves middle toe*
Splinter: There is always a way. *licks Raph* And you need a bath.
Kraang: Water gives Kraang's membrane wrinkly fingers
Karai: They don't actually speak much outside their houses.
Shredder: Do they all speak like this?
Don: Guess what April and I have been doing?
Other Turtles: * look at him*
Don: That's right, analyzing sewage water.
Captain Ryan: Didn't you love that one, Dr. Mindstrong?
Dr. Mindstrong: I did, Captain.
Captain Ryan: Well, you both learned a lesson today.
Karai: What makes you so special?
April: I don't know. I'm failing trig, my friends are mutants, aliens have my dad, and I lost my mother.
Karai: *looks shocked*
April: *grabs her and throws her down the stairs* Pretty good for a nobody.
Leo: Want to join us, April?
April: It sounds like a blast, but unfortunately, it's in the East River. And also unfortunately, I have an essay due. Besides, I kind of want some human food.
Mikey: Pizza's human food.
April: Not the way you eat it.
Karai: My name's Harmony. (Awesome foreshadowing by the writers here. I never knew that Miwa means harmony.)
See you at the next episode, guys.

I have to admit the moment Splinter licked Raphael I thought April will kiss Karai to distract her. Was right about distract part, but not the way.
If April actually licked Karai to distract her I would have burst out laughing. I actually wonder if that was originally planned in the first script before it changed.
That would have been awesome.

I love the pacing of the show. I don't want everything thrown at me right away. Build the story up and take us along for a wonderful, clever ride. And I, too, would like more Leonardo moments...
Also...
The fight scene between Karai and April was epic and perfect, imo.

Sadly, many kid shows have sexual innduendos inserted into them. Shameful.
Karai's street clothes looked like they were over starched. She epically failed her mission. Instead of kidnapping April she a)approaches her in broad daylight b)reveals her identity and c) talked too much. I was expecting a scene where Karai tries to stealthily sneak up on her but April senses her thanks to her training and the chase and fight. Disappointing.
When Donny wanted to rescue April, I liked how Leo said that April can take care of herself. He isn't overly protective because he has faith April's skill. He had even asked her to come along on their mission. I was relieved he didn't quote Captain D-bag....I mean Ryan in that instance. Admirable.
I love the Turtle Sub! Adorable.

Just to add - We did get a lot of Leo episodes. They were great, they were fun, they were some of my favorites (no surprise, right?).:twink: Not what I expected, but it makes the character grow. Besides, this one is better than the 2k3 one in my opinion. So as much as I love Leonardo, it's time to see more episodes of the other turtles. Never leave a brother behind.

April licking Karai's face might be considered too risqué for a kids show. Splinter licking Raphael was funny, but a 16 year old girl licking another 16 year old girl's face?

Correct, even their fight was a little bit censored, it never showed the punches hitting before cutting to another angle.
Sorry for double posting,
The April and karai fight was pretty intense. April looked like she was legitimately in pain during those scenes. I really enjoyed how she pulled through in the end, with that speech about everything that's going on in her life.

I was hoping for an April/Karai throwdown ever since Splinter took April in, as a kunoichi trainee. And I was not let down! Except it was not a fight. It was a one sided massacre. Karai beat the tar out of April. That was pretty harsh stuff coming from a child cartoon show. Damn, son. I was awed hahaha. I am happy that Splinter's lesson actually got through and made April save her hide. Anyway, loved Karai's beatdown. Dem knees to the ribs.
The main plot was fair (or was this the side plot?). We all knew that the brothers wouldn't fail to stop the Kraang once more but their underwater base infiltration made for a rousing episode. Is it me, or they decapitated one of the sea monsters hahaha? The mating gag was priceless. One of the best visual jokes on the show yet.
All and all, another sterling episode in an impressive run. No stinker yet IMO. Some lower tier episodes for sure but this one held it's own and I suspect it'll become a favorite for many later. In any case, the further we go, the more obvious it is that April will have an "inhuman" twist in her future. Always hated these. So cliche, ugh! We'll see how it's handled here.

Hey, CY, while reading your blog, I noticed you thought that April should have known about the machine outside Murakami's She's clearly confused by it and even remarks, "This is new." That means she's never seen it before this, so it must have been installed later on down the line for her to not know about it. Just thought I would point that out.

Splinter licking Raph was kinda creepy, but you can get away with it because they're mutant animals. But imagine a father licking his teenage son's cheek, joke or not? *shudders*.
Great episode, I haven't enjoyed one this much in a while. Though these two week hiatuses are rather annoying, I'd rather wait a big chunk of time and have the show air weekly consistently.
The Karai fight seems rather divisive here in this thread but I don't think I can take one side. The chase only made sense in that Karai was playing with April and it does seem that was the intention at least. It was a bit odd having the cook sneak up an attack on Karai and her falling for it and not doing anything about it afterwards. The fight at first was very choppy and seemed fanmade, I guess they were trying to make it feel more "personal" but it didn't work as well as they hoped. The beating April took was indeed brutal, wow. However, April getting up after that did cheapen it, she shouldn't have been able to get up after that, the fact that they didn't show any physical damage, I'm not expecting blood or bruises, but ripping the clothes a little bit or hell just "dirtying" up her face/clothes would've been more than enough. Her tricking Karai wasn't bad but Karai did pause for way too long, it should've been much quicker for it to work better. It also would've been better if Karai had gotten up quickly and just stood as "letting her go this time" because she outsmarted her.
Nick pushed it as far as they could go excluding "battle damage" like blood/scratches or ripped clothing. Very intense.
Blood/Scratches I can understand but ripping a little clothing or just making the clothes/face a little dirty wouldn't have caused any problems with the censors.

You raise some good points. Don't know about the ripped clothes.. but yeah, dirty face, some scratches and maybe her hair being a little messed up would have shown that Karai did really deal some damage. Hell, she could been bandaged up a little when she was back at the lair.

A fun episode, as they all are. I have a major problem with this show's pacing though. This episode was good, but a major kick in the nuts considering Leo found out in "Enemy of my Enemy" that Karai is Shredder's daughter... something he should have reported to Splinter, which would have thrown up a big red flag and finally got the old rat out of the lair for a change.
Main issue is the God damned scheduling though, which isn't the creative team's fault. But I literally can't stand the two week waits.
Glad to see Spike and Space Heroes back though. But did anyone else thing the voices for Captain Ryan and Mr. Crankshaw were a tad off?

TMNT only has 4 episodes left in the season anyway, so at this point we're pretty much in the home stretch.

Finally got to see this, and it was great! Still kind of sad they didn't reveal exactly WHY April is so special, but she has to be at least part "alien" from Dimension X to not have the Kraang water harm her, right?
Loved the sexual innuendos in this one. Hilarious, and extremely unexpected. :tlol:

To prevent myself from turning this post into a ranting session, I've gotten out my feelings on the episode elsewhere. Needless to say I'm in the minority and just didn't care for it. It felt... very awkward.
But I will mention some of the things I did like (best to try focusing on the positive, right?). I thought Karai in this episode was done pretty well, and I especially liked her "What makes you so special?" She feels very well fleshed out, and you can tell there's more to her. I also loved the scene at the beginning with her, Shredder, and the Kraang. "Do they all talk like this?" lol
I also liked the running gag of Mikey and his victory dance. The scene of him, Raph, and Splinter at the beginning was pretty funny (poor Raph, you could tell he really didn't want to be a part of Splinter's demonstration, lol). And I have to admit I laughed at the "We're not THAT kind of sub!" joke, as well as Leo's face when the periscope came down.
There is one thing I found odd though... Why would Leo ask April if she was going to join them on the mission? I mean, yeah, she's helped out on occasion, but it was always doing things they couldn't, like talking to people or delivering something. How exactly did he expect her to help take out an undersea Kraang base...? And the weirdest part was that apparently that was considered less dangerous than "going topside", judging by Donnie's reaction!

did not get to see this episode. Why was Karai so damn brutal with April? I haven't see the fight my self but some how I am a little bothered that April could distract Karai long enough or succussfully enough to fully throw her down a stairwell as some have described it. Even if Karai has "mommy issues" she is a ninja, as soon as April started to yank on her body to throw her I would think with her experience she should have reacted in time to not be thrown. That and how posters have described April getting right back up after the devestating blows she was dealt and karai being hurt enough by April throw to keep her down long enough for April to get away. But what ever, maybe when I actually see the fight i'll change my mind. I just don't like when characters with a week of expereince can take out veteran fighters.

Come back when you've seen the episode. Karai was taken by a moment of surprise and fell down a flight of stairs. Karai got back up afterward but just didn't bother pursuing April.
April didn't stand a chance.

did not get to see this episode. Admittedly this was one of my issues with the episode. Yes, Karai was clearly the better fighter, and yes, being thrown down a flight of stairs would likely allow April the time to escape, but the way in which April took her out bothered me. Then couple that with the fact that April didn't appear injured at all at the end of it... Had they bruised up April a bit (I know it's a kid's show, but a limp, torn clothing, clutching her arm, a bruise or two, anything!) and executed her taking advantage of Karai's distraction in a more believable (and timely - she sat there stunned for a good 6 seconds before finally acting) fashion, it wouldn't have bothered me so much.
Maybe you'll agree with everyone else when you see the episode, but I for one agree with you after seeing it for myself - this was honestly what I was most worried about going into the episode. But I'll give it that they at least handled their differences in experience better than I thought they were going to.

Yeah I agree, but April did clutch her arm at the end...that still doesn't excuse the bs fight but still.
I mean you can't even use the "It's a kids show" excuse for no violence since Turtles VS Shredder not only had bruises, cuts and hits to the face...but there were a few instances where you could actually see blood!

For the record, I'm actually not upset with the fight as a whole, just it's conclusion. I'm aware I'm in the minority on this, and that's fine. Also, considering most people really seemed to enjoy it, there's really not much hate for it, lol.

The fight was BS by showing April outmatched in every single way, and only escaped in a quick moment of surprise?
I have no clue how people think April wasn't hurt.

I literally just pointed out the way April was hurt! Didn't you read?
Anyways, the reasons why the fight was complete BS and the worst by far is:
1. April whips out a fan, only for it to be taken over and idiotically dropped by Karai. WTF was the point of that?
2. I don't really care about the CGI, but here it was executed abysmally! Go watch that scene with Karai beating April on the wall and tell me that wasn't poor animation!
3. That awkward 4 second pause when April dropped on the ground with the shot focused on the wall...WTF was that about? Lazy...
Finally, weren't both these girls meant to be Kunoichi? Then why the hell did April grab Karai's head sneakily instead of oh I don't know, Knocking her out on the spot? Worse than that, Karai (The experienced Kunoichi) responds with grabbing Aprils head back as well? Wow...
Usually this show excels in action scenes...but this pretty much flopped. :(

Uh, what? That proved April's training with the fan wasn't good enough to be used in a real battle, hence it was pointless. Karai didn't need to fight with it so she dropped it. You're complaining about something realistic?
2. I don't really care about the CGI, but here it was executed abysmally! Go watch that scene with Karai beating April on the wall and tell me that wasn't poor animation!
LOL, wtf? The scene was animated exactly the same as any other scene in the show. April was trying to block the attacks and she was getting all hit up.

Every time April tried to attach Karai she dodged it, so grabbing her by the head was the only thing she could think of. After that Karai STILL had the upper hand and pushed her to the ground. And that led to the final part with April surprising her.
What the hell did you expect April to do otherwise? You thought April should have knocked Karai out? Again did you watch how completely outmatched she was?
Usually this show excels in action scenes...but this pretty much flopped. :(
Considering your bizarre views on this fight, I'd say you don't know what you're talking about. April was shown to be poorly trained to handle a real opponent and Karai took her to school. If it wasn't for Karai freezing about the ninja comment she wouldn't have gottena way.
This was easily the best part of the episode and one of the best things Nick did with the entire series. Hopefully April doesn't improve too much whenever she fights next time, because this was the most realistic and best way of showing April's first fight against a stronger opponent.

I loved this weeks ep. It was awesome, I am glad April was no match for Kari. I loved splinter licking Raph too!!!!:D I wish there were more Raph centered eps, but o well.... I liked how Kari was asking April what made her so special. I feel that Kari has had a hard life, and has her own "issues". This is the first time I have ever been a fan of a villan (Minus Lotus bloosm). :P
As much as I loved the ep. I was dissapponted that all was not revealed (as nick promised).
Also I loved the fight but was disappointed that April seemed perfictly fine while telling her story to the guys (after fight). She could at least of tould her story with a black eye!!!:trolleye:
Still a great episode though!

Alive is such a broad term... but yeah, I don't think she considered april to be a threat even for a second, and to be honest, she wasn't, so carrying a sword made little sense. Also Karai was obviously jealous of April (she went as far as listing all the things that pissed her off). That, coupled with a few other things, made making April suffer a pretty good way to discharge her frustrations.
I mean think about it, she has a psycho of a father that is obsessed with his vendetta (and sharp objects), and who probably also isn't the 'supportive' kind of dad; she lost her mother; she did her best to aid the turtles and we all know how that backfired on her; she kind of has a thing for leo (I hate myself for bringing this up) but in 'enemy of my enemy' he just turns his back at her (at least in the beginning). So all in all, Karai's got a lot in her head right now, and she probably put a lot of that blame on April... Why can you be trained by a ninja master (who isn't a dick)? Why are you friends with mutants (and they are not dicks towards you)? Why are you in the middle of an alien conspiracy? Why can you have everything I can't?
Maybe I'm overanalysing it but it seems to me that Karai's attitude perfectly fits this pattern. Props to the writers for creating such a dysfunctional character.

Your post perfectly sums up exactly why I liked Karai so much in this episode. I felt the same, that she was lashing out at April due to jealousy, and I thought it was very well done.
I can only hope that April starts to feel this well fleshed out. I know a lot of folks like her, and I'm not trying to say that's a bad thing, but even after this episode she just feels a bit lacking depth-wise. I'm hoping the reveal about her and the Kraang - or even just seeing how she copes with living in the sewers - helps give her character a bit more meat in the future. The writers have been really good with this sort of thing with pretty much every other character, so I'm hopeful they won't disappoint.

I think the problem is we don't see anything of April's life outside the Turtles. We've never seen this Aunt she's supposed to be living with all this time since her father was kidnapped.
Makes me wish they'd introduce Irma as her friend or something so we can see her interact with someone in her own life.

Agreed - I'd love to see more of her home/school life. I think that would be a huge step toward fleshing her out better! Heck, I was just happy to see the Irma Easter Egg because it proved she actually had other friends.
But even when she's with the Turtles we mostly just see her with Donnie, and I don't think that helps either. She has done very little interacting with anyone aside from him, and while I'm fine with her feeling closest to him and therefore perhaps more comfortable with him than the others, it winds up feeling pretty one note. I'm hoping that maybe living with them we'll see her actually dealing with the other Turtles more often (or at all, in Raph's case, lol) - I mean, living with someone is way different than visiting.

I loved this episode, the sub was fantastic and the love truck Nessie was a joke I thought they'd never go there. Mikey's face with his fingers covering his mouth was perfect.
The Karai vs. April went just as I hoped for. April got beaten up badly, I freaking loved the scene where April was pinned to the wall and Karai just wailed on her. And Karai was just casual about the whole fight, she clearly was not giving her best as she does fighting the Turtles. Karai was relaxed and almost horror-movie-villain-calm throughout most of the fight.
The cinematography was really great in the fight, showing how helpless April really as against a proper Ninja. And the only way April could escape was to "cheat".
The Pizzaguy has a jewfro, the guy is too adorable and all the bad crap happens to the poor dude.
It was nice too see more background characters during daytime scenes.

Hi everone! I just sing up. Seeing as I have seen this type of comment a lot in this thread I what to give my two cents.
1.Why you are right about you can't even use the "It's a kids show" excuse do to that. You have to remember that is the only time the turtles where show to be really hurt. Look at the time when Raph fist fight Fishface. He was kick into the wall so hard it left cracks and he was biting but no marks where show. Or the time when Snakeweed hit Mikey so hard that it knock him out for most of the show.Once again there show no marks to show it.I can name a dozen other time when they should look just as bad but they look normal.
2. She human(sort of). What I mean by that is the show put more work into the Mutants then the humans. You can tell this by just looking at them. I mean ever human hair looks like I can take a hammer to hit and will still not move.Hell when April was in her sleep wear(in new girl in town) she still had her hair in that pony tail. This was likely do to it being easyer to make it that way.
That was a lot longer then I what for my first post.

Wow I didn't realize my opinion means so much.
I honestly still don't like her but I am interested to see what direction she goes in.
I just didn't care for how mean she was to Donatello at first.
And she is still sort of cocky and that's why I'm glad she got the crap kicked out of her by Karai.
Even if I really can't stand Karai's design.
I have no clue how people think April wasn't hurt.
I think it's how they animated her getting up so quickly.
But hey they only have so much time to work with here.
I mean they can't have her just laying there for the rest of the episode.
I mean they could but then people would probably complain about Karai not killing her while she had the chance.

Sorry this is so late but I thought this episode was okay. Not as good as the last few. The beginning was neat with Sredder threatening The Kraang they captured. And now Shredder finally knows of the turtles relationship with April. The water not effecting April was interesting. What is the connection with April and The Kraang? I liked the design for Donnie's submarine. The April/Karai fight was interesting even if a little hard to believe. I don't know what to make of that huge under water creature though. Sorry, I know that's what they said. I guess I meant that a sea monster is a random creature to have come through from Dimension X. And if so why is that the only strange thing that The Kraang have brought through as of yet?
I figure that at this point we'd have to see new creatures from Dimension X only in Kraang atmospheric areas and in water. I just hope we see some more creatures/species sense they do have an operational portal now.

The habitants of Dimension X can't live for long in the earth atmosphere. The Kraang was slowly changing the waters, hence why they could have a underwater creature to guard their underwater base.
If the Kraang can survive for a while in the earth atmosphere as we have seen with Kraangs escaping the turtles after getting their suit wrecked and other situations, I guess creatures can live in areas with small doses of Dimension X elements as the sea monster did.

My favorite part though was noticing the skinny kid in the black shirt and long hair first seen running in the background in the Rat King episode has once again made an appearance in the middle of the April/Karai chase scene. I'm still holding out that he'll turn out to be Casey next season. I'm sure others have noticed him as well.

It's a play on a woman saying, "I'm not that kind of girl" when she gets hit on by men.
The monster thought the sub was a female instead of a machine, so Mike saying that was basically him sayin that they're not interested in a romantic relationship. Lol.

I've heard other people claim that the "sub" stands for the "submissive" one in a sexual relationship (ie. "We're not a 'submissive', we're a 'submarine'!"), but I always felt that was looking too far into it myself. I believe same as CyberCubed - a take on "I'm not that kind of girl".

I understand all of that. I just personally didn't imagine a sea creature like that being from Dimension X (from the way the Dimension X looked from the Original Cartoon for example). And I also hope that The Kraang have at least one other creature from Dimension X in their TCRI building assuming they fixed the glass on that level of the building.

Awesome episode, in my opinion.
Karai gave quite a vicious beating to April and girl-in-yelow has "won" only by accident.
Stuff with Turtles and undersea Kraang lab was nice, but sort of secondary to the main plot.
Karai looks awesome in her civillain getup.
