Cool. Thanks. As I’ve said before, I can’t wait to see the designs of the characters. For me, the designs and looks of the characters is the single thing I am anticipating the most.

Me too, I'm way more intrigued about that than I was about the casting.

Sorry couldn't resist the photo manips...

but the casting is getting laughable at this point.

I know your post above was in jest, but some people have hypothesized that the human actors will have their actual face recognizably blended into the CGI turtles / splinter. I honestly don't think that will happen.

I just don't think they picked good looking dudes who look related by chance :ohwell:

I think it has more to do with their body types in relation to each other (which could translate onscreen), not their faces.

Bob

I do find it a bit of a coincidence how each of the actor’s they’ve chosen for the Turtles actually “look” like their characters already. For example, the guy playing Donatello is Donatello.

1984TMNT
04-24-2013, 06:29 PM
In body type only (and even then, that's pretty much only going off of the current Nick cartoon) - you can't say any of these guys faces looks like a turtle - that doesn't make any sense.

i've said it before, its probably going to be 4 human bro's turned into turtles. so we will probably get to see their faces.

Ok, so i was only half joking....but seriously - the casting is out of control stupid is it not?

And as i've said before, i like Bay, but why are they casting from the D-list?

Maybe if you guys could learn to take each universe as its own thing instead of making comparisons all the time, you'd be less disappointed.

Because why would you spend top dollar on an actor if he'll be obscured by makeup and CGI? Hey look! We got Josh Brolin! Guess which one! Who cares.

Will Arnett and Megan Fox are at the very least B+

Aside from Peter Cullen, the most famous Autobot actor was Eddie Winslow from Family Matters.

Yeah, but they were all quality voice actors - and originaly, Liam Neeson was OP. It took a massive backlash from the fans before he considered Cullen.

I agree though, it is what it is...

Still think the casting for Splinter is beyond absurd. I'm cool with Megan Fox, but that's about it.

Starting to wonder if they are getting a package deal from a single agency.

I think what they are actually making is more in line with the Super turtles. Oh joy.

Remember the original Planet of the Apes? Even in the sequel Orson Welles was originaly cast as General Ursus but felt he couldn't go through with the legnthy makeup process.

I don't think they rank that on the Ulmer Scale.

I can imagine this new cgi looking amazing. I wonder how long till we can see any type of concept art or whatever just to get a taste of what we will see. June 2014 is to far away!!!!!

Shouldn't we be seeing something soon? Wasn't there at least a pic of Henry Cavil out last year for Man of Steel? We need something.

Cavil is a man in a costume, the turtles are motion capture/cgi so I assume it takes more time. Plus they just starting filming this month so I'm not sure if we will get anything to quick as far as the turtles themselves go. I'm sure we will get some April pix soon enough.

Ritchson said he saw designs from the start. And Eastman's been raving over them forever. They have designs they could release, they just don't want to.

I don't really blame them, either. That's one less chance for fans to get pissed.

They are probably designed, but they are not fully rendered. In a production like this they have there roughs pretty close to the final conception. Something like this that is going to rely heavy on CGI elements will be quite awhile until we see something concrete.

They do have them designed. Bay says in the interview the maquettes look good. The guy that was the head of character design put something on his blog a few months ago saying he had finished up with the design process.

When a new iteration of an established property comes out its naturaly going to draw comparisons to the previous iterations.

I also think its more than fair to say that with any franchise there are elements which are intrinsic to it. You can bend them, twist them, alter them but there very definite point were it ceases to truly be the property fans love and is something else entirely.

It is also very fair to point out even if we accept drastic changes to the core concept it doesn't mean we still don't judge the quality and you can't stop fans looking at who is involved as well as available information and make judgements about that.

No, actually, that's the opposite of fair. What would be fair would be to wait and see the final product before passing any judgment.

Of course, that's too much to ask for for some people.

A reboot is a reboot for a reason. I've been a fan 25 years and I can give 2 ***** about the "Core" of what the old turtles use to be. That's the past. I can't wait to see this film and I support this film 100%. I'm not going to pass bad judgment on it because I'm not expecting a early 90s tmnt. I'm expecting a gritty new look to the franchise which I will welcome.

I consider myself to have pretty open mind about this stuff. But surely there are actual reasons why you like TMNT. There's something there that makes you a fan. And if that stuff were removed, you wouldn't like this movie.

What the heck is it, and how are you so sure it will be preserved? Cause you don't seem to care about anything.

I dunno about him, but for me, it's four Ninja Turtles goofing off and fighting bad guys. Pretty hard to mess that up.

I guess we'll have to disagree on what is fair in this context. Certainly how you describe it is not how people tend to operate. It's human nature to weigh up available evidence and form an opinion.

It's not like the TMNT fandom is so firm with this its unfair. Plenty of fans didn't care for the idea of the Nickleodeon show until we got some designs and details about the story and the vibe they were aiming for, some fans were invited to watch test pilot (and give feedback) and we got clips of unfinished animation and a lot of people felt better about it. We've got practicaly nothing to base this movie on beyond that leaked script, casting choices and the reputations of the creators.

I doubt you'd be advocating a "wait and see" attitude if we were taking all this and saying "wow this all sounds great"

I'm expecting a gritty new look to the franchise which I will welcome.

If that were true I don't think many would have problem but...what on earth makes you think that? :o
