I was just listening to that song by "The Whispers" known as "Rock Steady". I just found out that the song came out in 1987 which is the same year the original cartoon began.

I was just wondering if the rhino Rocksteady was named after The Whispers song. I've heard of a Cyndi Lauper song named "She Bop" and I was wondering if Bebop was named after that.

I believe they were named after music types not names of songs.

Yes. Bebop was indeed named after a song about masturbation. Great catch there, sport...

Rocksteady is a sub-genre of ska music, whereas Bebop is a kind of jazz. That's where they came from.

Bebop is older than Rocksteady. But there is a genre of metal named Shred Metal which sometimes is nicknamed "Shredder." To be more specific in a David Wise interview, Rocksteady was named after an underground punk group named "The Rocksteady Crew."

No, they were a hip-hop group. B-boys, you know, breakdancers.
