Also, it just occured to me.....are they using those masks as a modern interpretation of a samurai mask? Something like this:

The fights are going to be pretty boring if the Foot only have guns and no swords or martial arts weaponry to go toe-to-toe with the Turtles.

I can see it now... bunch of Foot show up, and it'll be like... Mike throwing his nunchuks to knock the rifle out of one Foot's hand, Raph throwing a sai to knock a chandelier onto another Foot, Leonardo avoiding some bullets and leg-sweeping a Foot firing a gun.

Haha....we have a whole other debate about this going on in another thread. Point is, with MoCap you can film and change sizes of things in post production. At the same time, yes, they could just literally paste in a cgi turtle the exact same size as the person filmed. It just depends on how they choose to handle it.

I'm so flippin excited to see these pics. I honestly could not give a crap any longer if they DO turn Shredder into something else, I really don't, and I love the look of these new "Foot ninja' (and since when did someone holding a weapon mean they can't find in hand to hand combat?). I am SO looking forward to this even if I end up being the only person I know by the end of it who actually likes this film. I am a smidge worried that we aren't seeing Raph here since that surely implies he's off doing his own thing....and I'm just kind of sick of turtle films based all around Raph, but hey, he's my second favorite turtle so I can't complain too much.

I have a feeling they've scrapped Shraeder and were left with Rocksteady, Bebop, and Krang(which is already a fair amount of villains). I think they're gonna save the real Shredder for the sequel, hopefully with real ninja foot soldiers.

I honestly hope they dropped the schrader thing, but until we get some sort of confirmation (visual, statement about casting, etc), I dunno what to think.

If they changed the rest of the script to get rid of the alien aspect, I don't see why they wouldn't also handle Shredder properly. The latest remarks about this film from the people involved is that it will be true to the TMNT universe, so I'll take that as a good sign until proven otherwise.

On a side note - I'd rather they would have gone with a more traditional "foot" look (ala the original 1990 movie), but can live with this interpretation if portrayed correctly.

You may be right, but the mocap equipment we've seen today looks closer to what was used in the Avengers than Rise of The Planet Of The Apes. It might be that they are doing a mix, as the face capture camera is added to the turtles mocap suits:

Unlike Hulk, Caesar and Golum etc the turtles don't have remotely human-like faces. My mind can't help but drift to one of the early movie pitched Laird described in his blog that would have had the turtles played by comedians in rubber suits with their faces exposed and wonder if we're getting the modern equivelant of that.

You can tell from the cuffs that the cgi arms are going to be quite a bit bulkier, not to mention the bodies will make the shells not seem as big. My guess is that these Turtles are going to be the biggest we have seen on film.

I started reading the leaked script a while back and this does seem to follow suit. I am thinking of going back in. Casey did indeed help them at the beginning.

This tech has come leaps and bounds, these actors have it easy in comparison to what the earlier movie actors had to endure.

They probably do have different sets of stunt actors and capture suits. It is such a neat process but I do wish they had at least some real costume aspects and creature shop effects sprinkled in.

Seeing the turtle actors in mo-cap suits makes me think of Bill Nighy when he played Davy Jones, he was the only main actor that did not get a pirate costume in Dead Man's Chest, only a mo-cap suit and some make-up on his face.

It's gonna look cool in the finished production, but it gotta suck playing a creature character when it's all done in CGI and you can't see yourself in the mirror as the character, just in some funky spandex with weird patterns or white ping pong balls attached on. :D

Well, having seen these photos, I feel my excitement level for this film increasing. It just hit me how long it's been since we had a live action film. 20 years. Damn. But, by that same sentiment, the turtles will have the exact same build as the actors.

Discussing the size of the shells are pretty pointless when it's just a part of the Mo-cap suit. Nothing is final regarding the suits and the attachments on them.

Size of various body parts might and will be changed, like the Hulk, chitauri, the mo-capped creatures in the Hellboy movies and so on and so on.

In the pictures, You will notice that the actors in the Turtle motion capture suits have little cameras pointed at there faces. So they are using the tech similar to Avatar and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. So the Turtles will be able to emote as well.

ppl need to stop saying its Bay, its Bay... its Liebesman!! Bay has very little to do with it.. he is busy prepping for TF4. He did not write the story, he is not directing it. He helps with funding, money management & hiring actors etc.. that's about it.

It is more Bay than you'd think. His name is on the slate above the director and dp...I'm an assistant camera operator for a living...trust me the producer's name usually isn't on the slate. In fact, I've never seen it before until this movie...

And a producer, especially one of Bay's status and caliber, is a pretty powerful person. They aren't just the movie's managers like you are suggesting. When a movie wins best picture they give the Oscar to the Producers...The producer can veto the director's vision at anytime. Demand re-writes at anytime. Throw a movie out and start over if they want. Bay being on this movie is a big big deal as much as you want to act like it isn't.

this is as much Jonathan Liebsman's movie as Return of The Jedi was Richard Marquand's movie...

Well either way, Splinter will be useless in this movie if Col. Schrader is in it. Splinter is the Yin to Shredder's Yang. This Schrader has a different story then Shredder/Saki. Basically if they kept Schrader, Splinter had no reason to train the Turtles in Ninjitsu.

Anyone know if that leaked script dated from January is legit? If so, this is really going to suck. The proof is in the pudding which is the script. It stinks of classic crappy Bay films. That script is trying to appease the old toon fans too much by using too many of the characters. We don't need another Mirage TMNT 1 do-over (as nothing will top that anyway) but that script is just horrible. There are some really questionable and bad things about it.

Three fingered gloves are funky to use, so I'm sure they are just gonna animate from scratch the turtles hands using the actors fingers as reference for the movement.

I think I've finally put my finger on why the pics of the turtles being led in chains out of a van irked me. Its totally unprecedented to see the turtles this way.

One or more of the turtles being captured has happened plenty of times but I can't think of any example throughout any of the comics, cartoons, movies, video games and so on that it has been depicted like this. They always fight until the can't. They are either gassed or knocked completely unconscious to wake up in cell or restrained. In the '87 series they've surrendered a few times either to protect someone else like April in "Turtles On Trial" or Zack in "The Fifth Turtle" and they surrendered as a ruse to get closer to the enemt in Fast Forwards "Day of Awakening" and even in Secret Of The Ooze Raph is captured but is shown struggling.

The way the turtles have always been depicted I can't imagine them ever being molested like this. They'd put up a struggle, try to escape or just mouth off. Even in the Fred Wolf show Michaelangelo would probably be saying something "Whoa watch the Shell dudes" or Leonardo telling the others "don't worry turtles, we'll get out of this"

It seems very un-turtles to me if that makes sense at all.

Maybe the turtles aren't total badasses from the moment the hit the surface, this time. And maybe The Foot aren't totally worthless in battle. It could be that they're aren't mouthing off because they've just had the crap kicked out of them. In the footage, they look defeated. Leo looks helpless, Mikey looks scared, and it looks like Donnie isn't even trying anymore - perhaps understanding that they don't stand a chance... It looks to be a hard-hitting emotional scene, to me...

That could be interesting to see. Plus, the whole 'hero brought to his knees thing is in, now. Seems like all the movies, now, find the hero beaten, defeated, gasping for air. I'd like to see the turtles genuinely outclassed, in the first movie, having to learn what their strengths are.

In pretty much every movie, there's a point in the plot where everything goes to hell for the protagonist(s). The big gloom if you will. I'm guessing this is that particular point in the movie and at the climax of it, they'll regroup together and fight whoever the main bag guy might be.

How they got in those chains in the first place is still a question. In the comics, they were captured by the Triceratons and, when they came to in cuffs, they didn't put up too big of a fight until they went up against the Triceraton gladiators. This scene could be during that time they come to and don't really put up a huge fight right away.

That's a very good point. We have never seen this kind of vulnerability in the turtles before.

I like the idea that they are breaking into new territory.

Yes, the turtles are generally badass, but it will make for very good storytelling if things get really dire for them around three-quarters of the way through. Most of us on this forum have been invested with these characters for a long time, this kind of low point would really get an audience reaction. (if it is what it looks like. Never know, it might be a nightmare sequence or something completely different!)

Then of course they will escape and kick some serious butt, and all will be right with the world again. 8)

Just like how Avatar took Zoe Saldana and made her into a 9' tall alien that only has 4 fingers per hand. The turtles very well could be big in this movie as I believe the original script said but they can make them whatever size they want with the mocap'd cgi.

another thing:I for one believe if these are the real foot clan in this movie-and it appears to be that way-then we probably still be seeing some bug eyes somewhere in their organization...I cant help but think of the often heard things in many interviews with directors, co-creators, actors and so on where they assured that this is going to be a mucho better movie than everyone is assuming and that it will have all the classic things a tmnt fan would like to see...(not a quote of course)
