‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Adds William Fichtner

EXCLUSIVE: He’s not playing a turtle in Paramount’s reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but William Fichtner is on board for the movie. Details on the actor’s role are sketchy, but Fichtner is said to be playing a lead with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology. A lead in last year’s Nat Geo TV movie Seal Team Six: The Raid On Osama Bin Laden, Fichtner was a semi-regular on the last two seasons of HBO’s Entourage and also appeared on The West Wing as well as in 2008′s The Dark Knight. Turtles is the third blockbuster in a row* the actor has coming up now joining his villainous Butch Cavendish in Disney’s The Lone Ranger*with Johnny Depp and his appearance in the Neil Blomkamp-directed Elysium alongside Matt Damon. Both those movies are coming out this summer, while Turtles is being released on June 6, 2014. As for the Turtles themselves, as Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr revealed in March, Hunger Games: Catching Fire’s Alan Ritchson will play Raphael in the Jonathan Liebesman-directed*movie, Pete Ploszek*will play Leonardo,*Jeremy Howard*will play Donatello, and*Noel Fisher*will play Michelangelo. Megan Fox is set to play the lead female role in the movie that her Transformers director Michael Bay is producing. Fichtner is repped by Intellectual Artists Management.

Krang isn't a part of the Turtles' mythology... he was brought in on a spinoff cartoon. And Shrader becomes Shredder in the leaked script.

Because he grows blades? Clearly a sub-par homages to the Shredder. If they want to make this film into their new franchise, they won't jeopardize being able to use the Turtles biggest and most well known adversary by introducing a watered down copy character. It's simple business.

There's no accounting for taste. However as it is the source material, it is by definition far above being merely "notable."

To be honest its not like this is going to actualy be like the 1987 show in anything more than a superficial way.

I've said it before but all the fans that are creaming their pants at the thought of a Fred Wolf inspired movie will probably end up the most disapointed as they see those concepts distorted on the big screen.

Once released, they will like it.

I'm fine with it. Throw Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady, Mondo Gecko played by the GEICO Lizard (MY IDEA MICHAEL).

I want the film to be big, loud, attract all the fanbases and demographics necessary, and make as much money as humanly possible. That ultimately is the best thing for this franchise, well over "quality".

It's going to be a fun year.

They loved TMNT when they were little kids, and they haven't cared since they were 12. All they need is basic caricatures for the turtles, some pizza jokes, and a hot April, because that's all they remember, anyway. A spikey dude who's kinda named Shredder would do them just fine.

And little kids won't care any more than we cared about the differences between OT and the movies, when we were kids, watching them at the same time.

I remember being at a pub after the Dark Knight came out and overheard a conversation about the film. He started talking to me and was amazed how "it's just like the comics". I soon realized how quickly that phrase is thrown out there by people who,

A. Don't Read Comics
B. Would Never Want to Read a Comic

People just want to be excited about things. That's all the Transformers film seemed to do. That's what this franchise is gunning for.

Does raise an interesting thought: what if Colonel Shrader is to the Shredder as the role Ben Kingsley played is to the Mandarin... and if Oroku Saki is to the Shredder as Killian is to the Mandarin.

It's Michael bay...the idiot is hated in hollywood and the fan community.. Probably couldn't get the recreation of a paper bag right.

I expect the first few minutes to have :
Bad Rap or heavy metal soundtrack
Turtles saying more slang words than actual words (Think Randy Jackson)
Splinter having an insulting Japanese accent, probably complete with big teeth. (oh, so sawwy!)
And April will probably have a scene where she strips for a shower before getting gagged and taken prisoner by the foot..

that's just a few projections though...
