View Full Version : Pulverizer's Mutation theory

Now hear me out on this as this may be the most logical and most realistic explanation on how it happened. Basically Timothy mutated into a pile of organs because he didn't interact with any mutants and didn't get any of their DNA mixed with his. You may now start thinking that he was grabbed onto and pulled around, but think about it, there is one thing he had that no one else did, he had clothing on that covers his ENTIRE body except for his face so most likely unless any mutant or creature touched his face, he never got any other DNA mixed with his and also you can tell because if you saw his mutation, you'll noticed that it actually took a while before he took on a new physical form and when he was grabbing that one Foot Soldier, the mutagen may have been looking for another DNA sample to combine with his. So overall that maybe why he is what he is now and would like to know what anyone thinks please.

I like this, it makes sense. I thought that he came in contact with too many mutants and the mutagen couldn't read his DNA, resulting in....whatever he changed into.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing too when watching that episode. He's pretty much covered from neck to toe.

If I remember, there was a shot where he dropped down on his knees and right after that you can see his hand become exposed and his hand is in another vat of mutagen, and a reaction happened right after it.

Shark_Blade

That might be a clue.

Since the mutagen was searching for another host to mutate to, it finally found another vat of mutagen. Hence he became... Mutagen Man.

That's a good way to explain it, though I feel the way the mutagen works is far more complex (and even a little bit more random) than that.

When Xever and Bradford were mutated they had touched the turtles before doing so, but they mutated into other things instead. Someone once told me that that was because the DNA of the turtles wasn't inside their system, as opposed the one of the animals they did end up mutating into: brad gets bitten by his dog and Xever eats an ugly looking fish (or at least I think he did; if he didn't then this whole theory starts to make less sense). The same applies to the other mutants we have seen so far (or at least the ones I remember): spiderbytes gets bitten by a spider just before the ooze falls on him (let's assume for a second that he did get bitten and that the spider wasn't just standing there), snakeweed fell to the ground and might have hurt himself with some of the weeds on the floor, etc, etc. It seems that in order to mutate into something you need more than just touching. However, if we look at how splinter was mutated, he just stepped on a rat while wearing shoes.

I feel that they mutate stuff in the way that's more convenient to them. They wanted Timothy to end up as Mutagen Man, and he did. We might wanna try to rationalize everything and make it work in our heads, but at the end of the day I'm not that sure there is too much logic behind a lot of things going on in this show (mutagen included). One of the kraangs said it himself, the ooze is far from predictable in this dimension. That gives the writers a lot of room to play with the rules of how the mutagen works, giving them the possibility of adapting it to the their particular needs.

That's very true. Unlike in Dimension X where the desired result can be easily achieved, Mutagen is simply unstable here, and therefore completely unpredictable from our current standpoint.

As for your theory ShredderX633, I like it. it offers a good explanation as to why the missing piece wasn't present in Timothy's mutation.

You guys are thinking waaay too much into this....
The explanation is the mutagen is "highly unstable in this dimension". So forget everything you know about past mutagens and mutations happening when you touch an animal. NONE of that has been proven so far in this show. Fishface and Dogpund were mutated, but did you ever see the fish or dog??? Hmmmm maybe ill go make a thread about that...

Get real, Tim got F'd up because he didnt listen to his friends. Now he's a glob of goop because the mutagen didnt have the reaction he thought it would. There is no "secret animal or thing" he touched to make him turn out the way he did, he's just and idiot who thought he knew what was happening in the tmnt universe when he really had no idea.

Wow, that really describes a lot of people around here too....

The dog belonged to Shredder & was named Hachiko, after a Japanese dog who is essentially a historical figure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachik%C5%8D The fish was something Xever was taking a look at from a black market salesman's sidewalk stand.

When Xever and Bradford were mutated they had touched the turtles before doing so, but they mutated into other things instead. I think because the turtles are already mutants so touching them would not have an effect to their mutations. It took the last natural beings they had contact with.

Soooooo they didnt touch anything else between then and being mutated, ok.

That seems rather arbitrary, but I guess any explanation at this point has the potential of being correct. I still find amusing how we are constantly having to rationalize different parts of the show.

As a side note, Turtles forever had a great take on the mutagen. It'd be nice if every incarnation was as straightforward with its mechanics as that movie was.

Shreddhead I can understand your frustration, but let's face it, we the viewers and most likely kids who watch the show will ask questions and will expect to get answers and I for one am a guy who doesn't like it when a show, movie, game ect. doesn't explain things which only leaves the viewers in total confusion. There's nothing wrong with that anyways we are only human and it's our curiosity that leads to discovery, truth and reality so we should be able to express our desires to answer the unexplained. Besides most companies that don't worry about explanations is only insulting the intelligence in the audience assuming that they won't notice plot holes, logical mistakes or poor writing. People will notice it and when they do, they won't rest until they get answers and that is humanity for you. Also Turtles Forever already proved that interacting with a mutant qualifies as Hun was fighting the turtles when he mutated and even the OT explained that's how the mutagen works and for the most part that seems to be how the mutagen works.

Sorta. The mutant fly became some kind of fly monster and couldn't talk or anything. The Purple Dragon with the pet hyena also turned into a mindless hyena monster. And yet Hun as a mutant Turtles still acted pretty much like himself.

I agree. I just get a little p'd when everyone and their brother fells sooooo bad for Tim. Im really excited to see where this goes, I doubt ciro would have built up Mutagen Man so much if he was just a voiceless blob....

Except that's a different universe and has no bearing on this show.
But i must reiterate this, everything we think we know about the mutagen is out the window!

That was exactly what I was thinking while reading the thread. The rat just brushes by Splinter, he doesn't actually come in contact with his skin. But consider this: the flashback sequences are just that - these are just generalizations of past events being told in the eyes of the storyteller. So it's possible the rat bit him or something, he just didn't go into that much detail when he was telling them the story.

I know the mutagen is a fantastic element and there's never been much rhyme or reason to it, but I do like trying to rationalize these things, it's fun! It kinda blurs that line between science fiction and science fantasy. I'm more team sci-fi myself, so I guess that's why I like to find more reason behind things. :D

It is possible that Splinter touched a rat in the pet store. When he mutated, he didn't become a typical black alley rat, his chin was white fur.

There was a thread before discussing this. Let me see if I can find it..

Found it:

Here are two different rats with markings similar to Splinters ;)

How-ever, I read a while back that this new Splinter, is actually based on a very specific asien, tree Rat species. I remember it having a name, I looked it up, and true enough, there was a lot of small Splinters with the white markings and red-brown fur down their backs in a line.
Unfortunately I forgot what the species is called!

But yeah, this Splinter is not just an ordinary brown sewer rat, he is a very specific species of rat you can buy in a pet-store. I'm just believing that he held one of those rats they sold in the shop where he bought the turtles.
I know the show indicated he got the DNA from the rat he almost stepped on, but come on, he didn't even touch it.

Also, havn't seen the action figure of him, but Splinter in motion in the show.. Looks like a rat. His ears are to big for him to be a hamster.

Very nice theory! Indeed it bugged me that the rat he almost stepped didn't even touch him, but like you said he might touched a rat in the pet store. His built might also suggest an unusual breed as opposed to the typical grey sewer rat.

Interesting.

Not to be mean or anything, but thats not much of a theory to steal. I think just about everyone realized he didnt touch anything after being exposed to the mutagen, and figured he turned into goop because of it. This Dodd guy probably came to that conclusion by himself.

I'm personally sticking with the "its unstable in this dimension" explanation.

Technically he had contact with his clothes and could have become some kind of fabric mutant, remembering that in this universe the mutation process can be affected by living and non-living things. I would guess that if this is mutagen man, this is what happens when the ooze mutates itself with the host - ie. a puddle of goo suspending random organs.

Well the idea behind a wiki is to collect the world's knowledge on a topic regardless of the author. No one on wikipedia gets credit for what they write, and its the 6th most used website on the planet. I wouldn't think of it as plagiarism. Think of it more positively, he liked your theory and felt it deserved a place in the archives.

On a side note, yeah that wiki is a headache.

I wanna point out that while Xever has his knuckles covered, Brad doesn't, so every time he lands a hit he is actually 'touching' the turtles. Also, Xever has his fingers exposed, so when he grabbed mikey he also touched him.
