In terms of the turtles..I just don't want them to look like garbage like they do in the new PS3/X-Box game!

Seems like they will have changed around the facial expressions for the turtles in the movie (to match the actors). Yet the bodies from out of shadows will be near identical to movie with minimal adjustments.

The turtles didn't have different colored skin in the OT. The toys, yes, but not the cartoon. It is an interesting though, though. Aside from a few subtle differences in saturation and whatnot, it's never really been done in their films before.

I'd be very pleased if we got something along the lines of OotS. But I'd imagine we'll get our first peek during Comic Con in July or in a teaser trailer with World War Z. I'm hoping for the latter. By that time, they should have enough footage for a 1-minute trailer of some kind.

They look like turtles, not Dinosaurs.

The OotS designs are probably the most accurate official designs to date, on what a humanoid/bipedal turtle with movable lips would look like.

They look like... Sais.

Also... The OotS turtles have giant hands. If they used those designs they would need bigger sais. We can now conclude from these images that the turtles hands will be as big as they were in the original movies. Here's hoping they still shrink the shells in post production...

They should NOT use the Out of the Shadows design. I think they look cooler than any of the other Turtle designs for games but it would NOT work for the movie. They need to be detailed a lot more, and look a lot more real. People have such a low standard for CGI in a live action movie. Even if the designs for the Turtles comes out alright, it still needs to look extremely realistic or else it will pull you out of the movie too much. They need to be very textured and lighted well, or else it will look really fake. Everyone needs to stop just jumping on the idea that since the new game design looks better than previous versions, the movie Turtles should look like that too. They should NOT. Everyone just stop and think. It's a live-action movie. It needs to look extremely believable. Realistic is the key word.

It's not about using the same models, those are low-poly CG models made for a Video Game.

The designs on the other hand, is reusable to create CG models fit for Live-Action integration.

Seriously. Anyone with a working brain should know that. It's a high production blockbuster Hollywood movie, not The Incredible Bulk.

I think the Out of the Shadows guys made it clear in interviews that they came up with their own designs.

And what kind of big name, well known movie director or producer isn't going to choose their own designs? Why would they sacrifice such power? I think it's a safe bet that they'll make their own call on what the turtles look like. And I think the turtles being the size they are is only a sign of that.

Candy Kappa

True, that's why my initial post was "If they look as good as Out of Shadows, I'll be very happy"

But, the OotS turtles is pretty huge themselves, and the actor doing the turtles have similar heights to the nick Toon turtles. My bet, is that the movie turtles will be similar to the OotS/Nick turtles in more ways then just height between the brothers. All speculation of course, but the current status quo of the TMNT is the Nick cartoon.

The designs of the turtles will have a major impact on my expectations of this movie, so I sure hope they come up with something good. Honestly though, I'd rather have an awesome movie with not-so-awesome-looking-turtles than a sucky movie with awesome-looking turtles, which at least to me seems like what we're getting.

what designs? there are no movie designs out yet. It was a comment for donnyt2u's post and his posts topic, the use of the OotS CG models and that they aren't suited for Live-Action CG integration.

Which is true, the models are low-poly models.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_poly

But the designs used for OotS can be used for movie production, or designs that are similar, since the OotS designs are heavily modified Nick cartoon designs.

All speculation of course, but the current status quo of the TMNT is the Nick cartoon. That is the status quo. But it's possible that this could be like the first movie, where cartoon was largely ignored by filmmakers who just weren't watching it. And what they did do, like putting in 'cowabunga' and using the four bandana colors, they were told to do by the powers that be. (I'm not sure if it was Kevin Eastman on the Shellshocked podcast, or preview clips from the 'Turtle Power' documentary, where I heard all that.)
The fact that they're using OT stuff could point to the Nick series not being much of a reference. But, as you said, the turtle actors do very much seem to fit the Nick designs, so you could be totally right. I'm kind of just yapping, at this point.

I just hope they look real and not too cartoonish. The OotS designs are good, but the hands and feet are too big/cartoonish. I think they need to be a bit more believable and grounded. Not to crazy about Raph's sais in this new movie. I don't like how they're not curved on the outside, and not long enough on the inside. The sais should like the ones in the first movie, or the Elektra movie. I don't like the color coded weapons and wrist/knee pads either. I have never been a fan of that in the Turtles franchise. It looks kind of cheesy to me. Can I get a witness?

I personally hope they go with something fairly traditional - I don't like the OotS designs. They look too creepy, and it's fine for a video game (that I'll never play), but for a mainstream movie I'd like to see more mainstream designs.

My guess is they don't want anything that will creep out the public, small children, etc. Something that looks like your basic Ninja Turtle with a few stylistic changes here and there. I think nostrils are too drastic a change from the "classic" look.

(Yeah, I know, the nostrils and reptilian features are "more realistic," but these are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I don't think realism is what people are looking for.)

Why not have a bigger bandanna? Just make it fall down on the turtle's snout more so one could see or even care if they had nostrils under the bandanna.

Funny how The Amazing Spider-Man 1 tried something new with the costume, and now they're changing back. And The Avengers changed the Captain America costume, and now they're changing back for Cap 2.

I thought Cap's Avengers suit was pretty accurate to the comic books. Granted, he didn't have the pirate boots or the wings sticking out of the mask, but it was pretty faithful. This is his suit for Captain America 2.

Captain America's movie costume is more akin to the Ultimate Comics Cap, and he didn't have pirate boots or wings on his head.

As for Spider-Man, didn't the first costume get torn to shreds in the end by the Lizard, I liked the ASM costume, but I hope they'll have a new costume each time it gets ruined beyond simple repairs.

The shells will stay the same size, more than likely. It’s the actors who will be "blown up". The Turtles will be in proportion to the shells. Also, going by the leaked script, the shells are very powerful. Doesn't a truck rebound off one, or something?

Personally I think the Fixer is right on the money with his comment and image correction in a different thread.
To illustrate what I was saying a few posts earlier, I made a (very) quick mock-up of what I personally think would improve the current Turtle faces. All I did was make the face a bit rounder (so that our pal Leo looks less reptilian) and remove the yellowness in the face that created un unnecessary beaky look.
I didn't even touch the nostrils.

Whattaya think... Would this be better or worse? :twink:

You can get away with showing a logo and not much else with Superman, Batman or Spider-Man but this franchise can't really live on reputation alone seeing as it's shaky at best.

I just need to see the designs of the Turtles before I get interested in this movie.

Its obvious they're going to go for a realistic look, but how realistic remains to be seen. If they look like dinosaurs...god help me.

God help you....with what exactly?

Are you gonna die if they look ugly?

I probably simply won't see the movie. I'm already not planning on playing the new videogame unless there are character skins to make them look like any other Turtles from the cartoons or comics.

God won't help you for that.

I hope the design looks something like the work that Santalouco has been doing. I've never really been a fan of the overly muscular grown man body type that they would all share. This look seems to be heavily inspired by the design of the Nick version, which I like aside from the Rescue Hero feet that they have in the show.
