View Full Version : Should comics continue the storyline after the movie?

TMNT 2007 had prequel comics prior to the start of the movie. Star Trek After Darkness has been confirmed to continue to story after the credits roll via panels, sketches, and bubbles. Since this trend is still a novelty, I feel that it would be smart for some special issues involving some continuity of the movie to be released.

Depends if IDW makes a short miniseries.

Sure seems to be IDW's thing, these days. They did movie tie-ins for all three Transformers, both GI Joes, and both Star Treks - each while running a regular series at the same time.
Whether a prequel or a sequel is most appropriate, I'd be disappointed if there wasn't a comic.

Depends if the movie is or isn't ass.

If Transformers set any kind of precedent, that will not be a factor in whether IDW produces comics based on it.

Ugh, that would mean we'd have to have a comic where an artist actually draws Megan Fox.

I think IDW has their hands full with their main series, the micros, and now the Nick animated comic.
Adding in a third (fourth?) ongoing comic series based on the new movie would be way too much.

Spiderman and Ironman did it. I won't be surprised if TMNT does the movie comic too. It's like a trend nowadays.

No because not every one reads the comic books. How can they follow a story if they aren't collecting monthly?

It doesn't necessarily need to be monthly issues.
Those examples above were just one off issue, kinda like the ones we already had:

^And I love those books dearly, eventhough the art style is dated. :tlove: Has a certain charm to it.

I loved the Archies Series Comics of TMNT, They were closer to the original show, Plus it had a lot more characters in it, Some from the comics even made it to episodes of the original show too and vise versa.

An adaptation is very unlikely to happen given IDW's current stance regarding the possibility of a Transformers 4 one, I think John Barber (senior editor) put it that 'the market is no longer viable' or something to that effect. A series following on is always difficult as it becomes retroactively out of continuity the moment you do a sequel film or at very least screws things up. To counter act that problem, you have to work in a very limited sphere or not make any major character or plot changes, which instantly hampers the entertainment value or general quality. I wouldn't be surprised to see a prequal or a 4 issue mini but more than that, I'm pretty sure won't happen, even with the current success!

Into Darkness may have been garbage, but it was fun picking out the little things that the comics had set up. Not just the prequel comics, but the ongoing series, as well. They even ha the movie writers jump in and coauthor certain arcs.

Amen brother! It all depends on the quality of the movie and its story. Nobody wants to read a comic about a bad movie.

I would if it had proven itself to be a better execution than the movie that spawned it.

I'd be quite happy to see a comic series based on / continuing the new movie.

They should do some kind of movie tie-in one-shot to give away at theater box offices when the movie is out. Kinda like how the first Pokemon movie had free limited edition cards when you bought a ticket, it could just be like a short prequel comic. That would be pretty cool.

i think comics should do comics and movie do movie. those kind of crossovers do nothing for me.

I would read comics taking place within the previous 4 movies' universes. Probably the CG movie the most, since it was the most drastically different. Like if they did a version based on that sequel idea where everyone but Mike gets un-mutated or whatnot.
I'm fine with comics to go with the new movie, more than fine if the movie itself doesn't suck.
