View Full Version : Making new characters into old characters

Well, so far we seen an evil scientist turn into the Rat King (and before that we seen a Bishop clone become Rat King), and then we saw the Pulverizer turn into Mutagen Man. What's the general consensus of them getting new characters and transforming them into classic mutants of old?

Granted with the Rat King we never knew exactly who or what he was before he turned as such, so we have more creative freedom, but it's interesting that instead of a random delivery boy, they turned what is basically a teenage Zach into Mutagen Man. That's almost like making Harry Osborne get bitten by the radioactive spider instead.

So what do you guys think about it? For example, how would you have felt if Chris and Bradford turned into Bebop and Rocksteady when they got mutated? Xever is still a street punk, but neither Bebop or Rocksteady owned a martial arts dojo before mutation. And assuming Mutagen Man keeps his personality as before, the original didn't have the superhero complex. What if Baxter mutated into something else that wasn't a fly? What if Murakami was mutated into Panda Khan? If Karai became Mona Lisa? Hell, what if Irma appears and SHE gets mutated into Mona Lisa?

so far I have to say I like what we got...the rat king is a very interesting character in the mirage comics who came out of nowhere just as mysteriously as he looked...and I like that mutagen man gets such a personal story here..he unfolds right in front of our eyes..it is necessary too because he is going to play a big role in season two(the article with the 80s turtles reunion says so if you havent read it yet)...this way we relate much more to this being than if it was just a random kid turned mutant..
I wanted to say it seems that you like so many others here dont give xever the credit he deserves...he is obviously very good at what he does(stealing) or else the shredder would never have picked him up out of prison..second:stealing is not his only quality...he is a superb martial artist(capoeira fighter) with -it seems-supreme foot work.he is also very resourceful for the foot as shredder stated in 'new friend old enemy' 'xever is familiar with the dark underbelly of new york'...of course we cant be sure about the follwowing as I at least dont remember any info in the old cartoon but:bebop or rocksteady didnt know **** in the old show.(hey, I LOVE bebop and rocksteady and would welcome their return in the show any day!I just cant stand people overlooking xever as a good character)
...
murakami san as panda khan?WICKED IDEA!!!!!!I dont know the comic origins but that sounds like a great notion to me!

What if Murakami was mutated into Panda Khan?

Panda Khan would require the permission of Dave Garcia, but I think it might be cool if we got an Irma only to have her mutate into something else. Might be a neat twist.

Oh no, I'm not downing Xever by any means. I think he's an epic character and agree with the details you said about him. I just mean if he turned into a mutant warthog instead of a fish, the character wouldn't be THAT huge of a change since the classic Bebop was also a street thug. The bigger difference would have been turning Chris into a rhino since Rocksteady was a military-type street thug and not a Chuck Norris-wannabe celeb that runs his own dojo.

I am all in favor of April or Spike becoming Venus Di Milo. Irma could become either Mona or Ninjara. It would be awesome if Shredder's Kraang becomes Krang, Ch'rell, or Dregg.

I have liked these unexpected character origins so far and hope that the Pizza Delivery kid actually is more then a running gag. I would think it be cool if the kid that raised Leatherhead turned out to be an important or at least known character though he would be too old to there version of Casey Jones.

Spike is almost definitely going to become Slash. And Miwa became Karai.

I also fully expect the Kraang Shredder has captured to become "THE Krang" after he's exposed to a mutagen experiment that increases his intelligence tenfold and he takes over as the leader of the Kraang.

theres nothing wrong with giving your ideas.
some might be more likely than others...but that doesn't mean they can't say them.

what isn't needed in a discussion is mean jabs toward people :ohwell:

maybe, but being mean isn't the answer.

no ones is going to want to join the forum if they notice people being rude to others.

sorry for the lecture....I just don't see the point in being impolite. :ohwell:

If I have to hear about a potential Sonic crossover or "THE Krang" one more time I swear I'll scream.

Huh. Actually Irma becoming Mona Lisa is an interesting idea, even if it's unlikely to ever happen. It does sound better then some random college girl we have no attachment to. Build up Irma's character and then have her mutate.

Spike is almost definitely going to become Slash. And Miwa became Karai.

I'm half hoping that Spike becomes Slash. And Karai being Miwa...well it's all but confirmed really.

I think we'd see Murakami turn into Pizzaface sooner than say Panda Khan.

I think the idea of Irma becoming Mona Lisa is a bad idea.

One reason is why the name change. There is no way Mikey will get the idea to call her Monalisa and if he does not name her I dont see why she will change it her self.
All so why cant she meant Raph at the begin of the show(or maybe a few before it. Then get change.)

All so I dont see Spike becoming Slash do to the type of turtle he is and I dont see why he will go all crazy on them. Unless they do some thing like in the IDW comics.

I dont like the idea of Irma becoming Mona Lisa. Its just a bad idea to me atleast. For it to work, you've have to introduce Raph to Irma prior to the mutation and have him fall in love with her before she becomes a lizard mutant. Which is just kinda dumb since we already have a similar thing with Donnie and April. Overall, It'd take away from Donnie's relationship and cheapen the show.

As for Spike becoming Slash, AS MUCH AS I LOVE SLASH....PLEASE DO THIS. BUT.....do not make him a bad guy. If there gonna go that route, do anti hero at most.

There is no way that he would attack the turtles after Raphael has raised him this long. Mutagen or not.

This is an interesting idea (what makes you think Irma is in college though?) because of the thing between Raphael and Mona Lisa, and Irma always having a crush on Donatello... and now Raph is Don, so Irma might as well be Mona...

No I mean Mona Lisa. In the OT she was a college student. I wouldn't necessarily see Irma becoming an instant love interest for Raph though, just because she would become a new character.

I didn't remember she was a college student. I wouldn't mind seeing Irma become Mona, but I want her to be interested in Don this time, not Raph.

I understand...koool to feel some more love for xever, I think too he is a great addition to ninja turtles lore...speaking of chris bradford..I am really interested to see how his story continues...shredder is really pissed off by now...

Probably the general plan is that Fishface and Dogpound will fail Shredder one time too many and basically be fired and Shredder will replace them with Bebop and Rocksteady. When Bebop and Rocksteady don't work out so well, Fishface and Dogpound will likely be back in his good graces.

Maybe Shredder will just realize in general mutant henchmen is a terrible idea and just stick with Foot Soldiers, Karai and maybe Hun.

Ms. Campbell should be rebuilt as Chromedome.

Shredder captures more Kraang and experiments turn them into Kraang, Ch'rell, and Dregg.

The normal rat Splinter touched prior to mutation becomes Labb Ratt

I agree with Cure about the spouting of horrible ideas. It's one thing to hear it one time, but we've been hearing it over and over again to the point where it's become annoying.

But I do like how they're changing new characters into classic mutants and the like. That's awesome.

In some ways, this show really feels like it could turn into the old show (but undoubtedly better).

Really? I'm sure that mutant henchman are just as good as the rest. That's kind of like saying that Splinter shouldn't have the turtles to fight as they're mutants.

The point is that Bradford and Xever were completely capable prior to their Mutation. Rocksteady and Bebop were significantly smarter as human beings ("The mutation didn't up their IQs any!"), and Xever's mutation with a carp made him virtually ineffectual until Stockman developed legs for him using the Kraang technology.

Even though Shredder technically kidnapped the Kraang, its clear now that they are going to form an alliance rather than be enemies.

I think it would be cool if sometime in season 2 or 3 LH went on a hunt with Mikey to find his original owner. He'd be old enough to be living on his own now, so I think it would be very cool and good for his character to see them reunited. :tsmile:

I don't think everything needs an overly intricate new retelling to give the characters a fresh take. But I like when there is some crossing over of the characters' pasts - eg. if Casey owned Leatherhead as a young 'gator.

I think Spike could work as Slash if they decided to use Slash in this series. Maybe Spike falls into the wrong hands, gets doused with some mutagen, a little brainwashing ensues, and bam! One evil mutant turtle.

And I really do enjoy the way this show introduces characters and then transforms them later on. I never would've guess that the scientist dude voiced by Jeffrey Combs (can't remember the character's name right now) would turn out to be Rat King. Really clever stuff.

Maybe part of the Lair is flooded with mutagen by enemies and then Spike gets mutated. But there would need to be a human..Maybe April pets him first? That's how I imagine Spike will be mutated.
