You heard it here first, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 has SOLD OUT at the distributor. Dreamwave has decided not to go back to press on this issue, making this hot issue an even rarer collector’s item!

Yes absolutely. It's fantastic to see both TMNT comics selling well. This franchise definetely has life in it. Especially now that they are telling the Mirage (or Mirage related) TMNT. I always knew that it could work, Mirage had just too many great stories.

Well Dreamwave will probably seel much more than Mirage, it's made for mass market afterall. In the long run, it migh even get more viewers to the show.

Dude, there's no "probably" will sell more. DW will UNDOUBTEDLY sell more than Mirage.

It's just a simple matter that DW has cool cutting-edge COLOR art. Having Peter David will bring in some of his followers. Plus it's based on the new cartoon that is popular.

Mirage is BLACK AND WHITE, has dated art, and is more obscure by having lots of continuity to a comic book most people haven't read.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Mirage series. It's the only TMNT series that's continuing the story line, progressing it. Everything else is just doing Year One again.

But it's just a simple marketplace fact that DW's TMNT is more mainstream and guaranteed to pick up more readers.

I ordered mine from midtown comics, I checked again today and now it's sold out there too. I wonder how many copies they printed, it sold out in one week.

Wow! I was at my comic store again two or three days ago...there were a couple there then. I was wanting to buy a second one too.

I'm not too worried though - because there was a batman comic a couple months ago that featured superman and it sold out as well, but at my store they still had like 30 or so.

Most excellent! I heard the G2 TF and even the Armada issues are doing very well too. They use a very good cross marketing campaign as well, me thinks, by advertising their other comics in each issue. :D

I'm pleased to have reserved the DW #1 of LeS and Pat Lee's covers too now.

1) I never said that Mirage would sell better than DW. It can't, DW produces for a much larger market. I just said that Mirage is selling well, and it is.

2) I'm glad to see Dreamwave selling well. I agree with Guy De Blanc, the DW series (as well as the new cartoon) are similar to a "Year One" type feel. Although, I think the best example would be "Ultimate" TMNT. A retelling of the story with younger characters and new arcs.

3) I too hope that this new series draws new viewers to the show or vice versa. The new TMNT, as depicted in the cartoon and DW, is a fantastic version of the characters/story so I'm glad to see new fans enjoying and following it. One of my main beefs with the old show is that it gave people an inaccurate impression of what TMNT was like. I felt annoyed that such a great comic was being turned into a child's comedy. Now, it seems in both cartoon and comic mediums TMNT is getting some fair mainstream attention. (For the record, I still have great love for the first movie for also bringing the original TMNT to the mainstream).

TMNT #1 SELLS OUT: WHY THAT KINDA SUCKS.
People are congratulating me over the press release about TMNT #1 selling out.

Except I'm not happy about it. Once again, it's the Santayana quote: "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

When I first started writing "Captain Marvel," what did I hear from fans? "I can't find it in my store!" "It's sold out!" Fans seemed to think this was a good thing. Month after month this continued, and then Marvel suddenly announced that the book was in trouble.

Supergirl #75 sold out. Supergirl #76 sold out. "Great!" quoth the fans. "Cancelled!" quoth DC.

Does everybody get it yet? When retailers don't support my books (because I'm not, y'know, the New Hot Thing), they don't order enough. When they don't order enough, the books sell out. When the books sell out and the early issues are unobtainable, people won't buy the subsequent issues, which causes orders to drop even more.

When you see future sellout announcements on--for example--"Fallen Angel"...don't say "Hurrah!" Don't say "Congrats!" Say "Uh oh."

Interesting. I hope history does not repeat itself in this case. Perhaps Dreamwave may reconsider doing a reprint. It'll only keep with the tradition, after all.

Either way, this is a great time to be a TMNT fan, that's for sure. Two good titles to read, with a third to follow in January . . . not to mention a cool cartoon and great toys.

It's not so much how many are printed, but how many are ordered. Comic shops usually decrease orders after the first issue or two.

Yeah, but the problem is that orders for issue 2 happen before issue 1 comes out. That's the way it has to work. I mean, right now retailers are being sold on issue #6 of Transformers, when #3 has yet to hit the shelves.

That's why sometimes the 2nd and 3rd issues of a comic can sometimes be harder to find than the first issue, because retailers order less not knowing if the series is going to be a success.

the DW series will branch off after the fourth issue. issue #2 comes out in July. The DW series will be a monthly one.
