View Full Version : Is Minae Noji playing Karai?

Someone pointed out in another thread that on the crew page of the movie's IMDb page, it shows that there's a stunt double for the actress Minae Noji, but she has yet to be announced to be part of the cast. Are they keeping her a secret for some reason? I assume that her character is of some importance if she has a stunt double, meaning she's probably involved in some fight scenes.

Karai comes to mind first. Assuming they keep his Japanese heritage intact, this would make Shredder a bit older, but I'd be fine with that.
OR here's an idea... If Shredder MUST be tinkered with, what if we actually had a female Shredder, with Karai inheriting the title/armor from her father? It could be an interesting conflict to have the two "offspring" of Oroku Saki and Hamato Yoshi seeking revenge on behalf of their fathers. Just a wild theory, but it could explain the secrecy around Noji's character. (And at least it's not Schrader...)

Well, Saki is a girl name, that is why the Japanese dub Shredder is renamed Sawaki.

it could work i guess but it would be weird to show a japanese yoshi, then show splinter talking and he does not sound japanese at all and sounds american.. even if yoshi does not talk, would still be weird, unless that actor can pull off a slightly japanese accent.

I don't know why Shredder would have to be older if she's Karai. She doesn't have to be Shredder's daughter. She had no relation to him until 2K3.
Again, though, you read this on IMDB. I run across bulls**t all the time there. It's like a Wiki only you need to contact mods to get crap removed so it takes longer.
Not saying it's not true. Just y'know, grain of salt and all that.

guys, again, it isn t THE ORIGINAL script..its just a script among many that was around a long time ago..only difference?THIS bad one got out to the public..(maybe even because it was so bad..)
stop using this weird script as a definitive road of where this new movie was going for...we all dont know if this was ever considered THE one from the makers of this film....sheesh..
and I might add...the inventor of this thread(sorry dont got your name handy at the moment)why do you assume if this actress was karai that shredder would HAVE to be older?..you mean because she was related to oroku saki in the 4kids series?
karai actually isn t the daughter of shredder in the orginal comic books, so they could give us both:a great looking karai(oh man, this woman looks STUNNING!) and shredder in his best years;)

I really hope she turns out to be Karai. I know the movie is relying heavily on the OT, but there's no reason why the movie couldn't merge things from multiple universes together. Other then that, I'm treating this as a good sign that they haven't revealed the full cast yet.

Yeah, it's true that they probably salvaged a few scenes from the OS, but as far as I understand, they changed quite a bit of it as well. Perhaps this is one of those changes?

I pointed this out in another thread. That could be her. Her attire looks similar to the Foot. Might be Karai or another asian, female character (minor or major).
Honestly, I don't care for Karai. She isn't really necessary for this film.

You know, after thinking about it, that's what role I think Noji will have, if she's in the movie. Which makes me curious...if Lotus Blossom is going to be here...then what are they going to do with her character? Is she still going to be a mercenary looking for a quick buck or will they re-invent her entirely? I mean, she was in two episodes so there's not a whole lot to work with...And if they bring back Lotus Blossom then who knows what others characters they could bring back.

Nobody has confirmed that the actor in the military apparel is Minae, so obviously the possibility of her being Tang is the same as it was before.

While a wild concept for this it could actualy be *gasp* true to the original version were she has no personal connection to Shredder at all.
Not to mention in the versions were she has been his daughter she has always been adopted and never a blood relative.

Part of me wants to say that the Nick version of Karai should be the one we expect to get, just because that's what kids would expect, but that's obviously just a shot in the dark.
Still, in terms of Shredder vs Shrader speculation, I have to consider this a tally in the Shredder column.

I'm going with her being cast as Karai.
I mean she's in the photo WITH the Foot, wearing Foot attire. What other female is Japanese and hangs with The Foot in the TMNT universe?
I have a gut feeling she's Karai and that Shredder will be Japanse or at least Japanese-American.

Yeah, after seeing those pictures, I'm inclined to think she's playing Karai, or at least a character heavily influenced by her. The bangs and pieces of hair hanging down on both sides are pretty consistent with how several versions of the character look.

I agree she is probably playing Karai, but don't rule out Tang Shen so quickly. Remember that Yoshi was originally a member of the foot in at least some incarnations, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch for Tang Shen to be one too in this new incarnation.

Lots of Asian women work for white men. My boss for her boss, in fact. And the idea that Shredder must be older because she is older is pretty retarded when Karai is only his daughter/relative in the spinoff universes.
But please, I would rather they keep Karai out of this. The last movie ruined her rep enough... this could be the one-two punch for her.

With all the recent stuff about Eric Sachs, I'm kind of expecting some sort of reincarnation plot in this movie.
I'm wondering if Karai will be the one to resurrect/reincarnate the original Oroku Saki in the form of Eric Sachs. She could be Oroku Saki's heir and the leader of the present day Foot Clan. Maybe she's "modernized" the Foot, making them more of a military unit than ninja clan. Perhaps when she reincarnates Shredder, he takes issue with the direction she's taken the clan and resumes control, reverting it back to a more traditional ninja operation.
With the way a lot of franchise movies seem to be setting up the "status quo" at the end of them (Batman Begins, Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, Skyfall, Man of Steel, etc.), I wouldn't be surprised if this Turtle film does the same, giving us more familiar versions of the characters we know and love by the end of it.

What makes you think that? The last time she was in a TMNT movie she got her ass kicked, and that was back when Mirage/Peter still had some say in things. You really want to give Bay's crew a vote on confidence in her regard? I mean, based on what?

No, I just meant, I saw this actress in another movie and she kicked ass, so I figured she would have good fight scenes. Yes, I'm sure she will get her ass kicked, I just meant the fight scenes will probably look good.
I'm not confident AT ALL that Michael Bay will do the character justice. Or any of the characters for that matter.

That's good news, Karai has never been seen in a live action TMNT movie. Even though she was in the CGI movie.
I hope the movie version of Karai has some interactions with Leonardo.

True, but the IMDB pages are generally 100% accurate by this point in the production, which has now entered post.
Had this come out in March or something, I would've called BS.
But now that production has wrapped and the IMDB page has been filled with accurate info on the crew and such, I wouldn't doubt the report.
Plus, there is photographic, and video, evidence of her on set.

There is literally no point in which IMDB pages are considered 100% accurate by virtue of time alone. Again, literally anybody can add things and the mods don't fact check very well.
