Wow, so Krang is really in this show after all, eh? AWESOME! His design is pretty cool but I really do not like his female voice...it just doesn't sound right. Then again, that could be the robotics that he's set up to that are doing the talking. Guess we'll have to wait and see! Can't wait for the Kraang Prime action figure :P

Does it matter if he's a little different? Look at what they did to The Rat King, he looks completely different than past Rat Kings but he's supposed to be the same character.
Kraang Prime is essentially Krang. Now that he's confirmed male we'll probably see him commanding Traag in Dimension X too.

And thats not sexist how?
Also, it seems like Kraang Prime can also speak perfect English. Wonder why Rosanne is voicing a guy, though.
Honestly, Rosanne has one of the least feminine voices in "Show biz". Not surprised its a he. But like I said, still would have liked to see a female Kreang

Yeah, different design and different name - must be Krang from the OT. People have been saying for months that Prime is this series' version of Krang but you would have none of that. You constantly posted that you wanted Prime to die in the finale and to have Shredders kidnapped Kraang be mutated into Krang. Why the sudden change?
Part of me thinks the Kraang storyline will take a backseat in S2 and Prime won't even be a character. Roseanne has only been listed as a guest star for the finale right? I haven't seen anything about her being in S2. Plus the way Ciro said the Turtles were trying to stop the Kraang for the final time in the finale made me think they're ending that storyline for now.

Funny thing is, in Norway we had a woman play the voice of OT Krang.
However, it was a feminine sounding voice, not hinting to it being a male at all.
Actually, I never once heard them refere to Krang as a he. So I always assumed that Krang -was- a female ever since childhood.
I thought it made sense, seeing how "she" and Shredder interacted. :ohwell:

i dont know about Norway as i have not watched the series in that language but in English langauge that i watched it he sounds like a male. He was a male not a female. The robot that he was using to move and fight (the big yellow robot with the red underwear and the glasses), was also a male robot not female. In IDW he is also male. Got it? Krang was is and will be a male. Krang never was a female and never will be.

I never said it -was- a female. Only that back in the days I -assumed- it was a female due to the female voice.
I know now that Krang is no female.
One would think I offended someone by barely mentioning how I -thought- it was a female when I was a mere little child due
to the woman voice Krang had in the Norwegian version of the Turtles.
Wow.:tconfuse: Best not be mentioning anything female related when it comes to Krang for future notice.
But yah, I figured that much when I got to this Forum that it was a male.
Way to update me on that if anything.
After all, I haven't watched any TMNT in at least 18 years if not longer.
In as much as we've never heard of Krang's race having females, I'd say it's possible that he is more of an it.

We learned Kraang Prime was male and he's the leader Kraang. That's obviously as close to Krang's character as we'll get. Its also possible we'll see the Technodrome and more of Dimension X and Traag in Season 2 making it more obvious he's supposed to be Krang's character reimagined.

Tell me about it. I may be staying off of IMDB for awhile. If I have to hear that the Abrams' Star Trek films are "mindless," I'm going to scream. No one is ever satisfied. It's one thing to have freedom of speech, but I wish some things were left unsaid. I'm okay with comments, but I'm tired of others insulting each other.
As for the Krang news, this is great.:tgrin: I can't wait to see the episode. I'm guessing Krang is like a person of indeterminate gender (even though he's a guy) because of Rosanne's voice. That's what I started to think about when I heard her portrayal. Plus, the "Shredder" bit was pretty darn funny.:tlol:

LOL, by that logic Rat King can't be Rat King because he looks totally different. Or Shredder can't be Shredder because this one is bald.
So there are some design differences and he's called Kraang Prime, its pretty obvious he's intended to be Krang himself. He's the leader of the Kraang, he's confirmed male, he can speak normally unlike the other Kraang, and he has a huge android body in concept art that will likely be used in the show.
In Season 2 we'll probably see him command General Traag and might get the Technodrome.

But you see they're analogs for the characters with differences. Shredder is still Shredder with differences. Rat King is still Rat King with differences. And Kraang Prime and the Kraang in general ARE the reworking of Krang. You may never see THE Krang, and I hope we don't.

But Kraang Prime is Krang. What difference would it make? They can't just call him "Krang" in this show because it would confuse him with all the other Kraang.
I had this big fear that some "female queen Kraang" was going to replace the Krang we all know and love, I am glad that fear is unfounded. Thank god.
But, why would Nick wanna confuse all the kiddos by expecting them to give a crap about a character from the old cartoon? It's nearly 25 years old, and it hasn't been seen on American TV since the 1990s. It'd be a different story if Nick was rerunning the original series.

I got to say I'm a little disappointed that Kraang Prime wasn't going to be female, because it would have brought a new spin on the whole concept of OT Krang and Nick's version of the species of Kraang. I thought maybe if Kraang Prime was female there would be a "queen bee" type of concept with the character, but oh well... whatever.
From a speculation standpoint, it seems as though the creativity is a bit restricted here, but I'm willing and open to see where this series will take this character. I mean the series could surprise us later on, and gobo brought up a enticing possiblity that it could be used as a tool to introduce the OT Turtles. I'm sure however the OT Turtles will be introduced, it will have to do with some dimensional travel associated with the technology of the Kraang though.
Here's to waiting and seeing, I guess. :)

They probably only went with a female VA so Kraang Prime's voice isn't too deep. Other than Pat Farley I don't know how they could have pulled off Kraang's voice. Although the guy who played Krang in Turtles Forever did well enough.

It really makes no sense to me that a female Kraang Prime couldn't just as easily be substituted as your "Nick version of Krang". So because Kraang Prime is now a male only now can this role possibly fulfill Krang's position?

Here's a better question, what do you think Kraang Prime is then? Calling it "Kraang Prime" is certainly a better name than, "THE Krang."
People only thought Kraang prime was a different character because they thought it was going to be a female "queen Krang" type of character. Now that that's proven wrong, and that Kraang Prime is male and has an android body, its pretty much Krang for the Nick show.

Krang wasn't 25 feet tall (without his body) like Prime. Krang wasn't the leader of his species like Prime.
There are big differences in the two characters that you are overlooking simply because Prime is male. This is the creators way of adapting Krang / The Utroms into the series but that doesn't mean Prime is OT Krang.

C'mon CyberCubed, really...? :ohwell:
Wouldn't you like some variation within the whole Kraang-Rock Soldiers relationship? (Maybe for example....it would be a nice spin if the Kraang and the Rock Soldiers were actually two different warring nations or species, rather than the soldiers being subservient to the Kraang. Who knows maybe even the Tragg monster in the Nick version could be a prisoner of the Kraang, being forced to fight, but unlike Leatherhead's situation, Tragg has far more innate malicious intentions.)
I mean if the Nick show follows too closely to the OT, it's going to limit the creative reinterpretation of the show. If that happens, I can sense that critics of the Nick show will say, "Eh, why bother watching the Nick version? I might as well watch the OT if they are going to be that similar..."

Speaking of twists and turns, what a soap opera dramatic twist it would be if the "Rat Queen" somehow turned out to be the jealous sister/friend of Tang-Shen, who actually wanted Hamato Yoshi/Splinter in the beginning. And after a few seasons passing... we find out she aligned herself with Shredder, not knowing her sister/friend would be killed but rather wanted that romantic relationship to end. Then a couple seasons later after that, we learn that the "Rat Queen" actually regrets that deal with Shredder and actually believed that Oroku Saki would only break the relationship between Tang-Shen and Hamato Yoshi. So that way the "Rat Queen" would have Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Saki would have Tang-Shen.
... I know, a cray-zay concept.
----
Edit: How's this for the Rat Queen's title? "The Rat Queen: The Scorned Ex-Lover of Splinter when he was Hamato Yoshi"
----
LOL, it would be nice for Splinter to have a love interest, but maybe someone other than the obsessive and delusional "Rat Queen" though. Right...? She would make Karai appear to be far more appropriate for Leo.
(...Look what you started Jester! :P )

Why weren't you saying this when everyone thought Prime was female? Based on your posts, wouldn't Prime as a female have just been a reimagined Krang for this series?
I really hope Ciro was messing with people and Prime is a female.
People thought a female Kraang would be a mother queen Kraang.
Ciro confirmed Kraang Prime is male and everything else about it points it to simply being a more intelligent leader Kraang. That's exactly what Krang is.

What the hell are you talking about? Are you seriously incapable of understanding that every character in the Nick cartoon is different than their past incarnation?
IDW's General Krang and Nick's Kraang Prime are Krang, just like their versions of Shredder/Rat King/Karai/Traag etc. are all the same characters despite being different. So apparently Kraang Prime isn't Krang, yet everyone can accept that The Rat King who was "Dr. Falco" is the reimagined Rat King character from every past series?
This is utterly laughable. Of course Kraang Prime/IDW's General Krang are the Krang character, who else are they intended to be?

I've only seen one sketch of Kraang Prime so far, and he look like he'd bit a giant in comparison to the other Kraang. Is KP, in his suit, a giant like Traag is, or did he seem to be in scale with the rest of the Kraang?

Perhaps cause they're still called the Rat King and Traag (I never heard the General part) and not something else like Rat Master and Stone Guy?
If he's Krang, why not just call him Krang? Why not just call them the Utroms and have Krang be the leader? Why go through all the trouble of calling them The Kraang and act and talk differently than any other version and call their leader Kraang Prime and make him act like the leader of a hivemind like the Borg or Brainiac?
CyberCubed

They called them the Kraang because of the popularity of the name compared to the Utroms which only Mirage and 4kids fans know about.
This character is called Kraang Prime because what else would you call him if there's a race with the same name? Just calling him Kraang would confuse him for little kids.
In IDW they call him General Krang yet everyone agrees its Krang.

THE KRAANG as a whole are THE Krang. Krang Prime is just their leader! We're not arguing that IDW's Krang isn't Krang, because he is IN THAT UNIVERSE!! Like THE Kraang is for Nick's series. They combined the Utrom and Krang into one and the same. Pure and simple.

Exactly. Krang is a warlord from Dimension X, leads an army of stone warriors and wants to conquer his own dimension and Earth. 80's show. IDW comics.
Kraang Prime wants to terraform Earth and has an army of hivemind Kraang and has an interest in April for their plans. Sounds like a brand new character to me. Hell, in the 80's Krang never had any particular interest in April except to kidnap her once or twice. Shredder seemed a lot more interested in nabbing her all the time. LOL Nothing on this version of Traag either. He's not even a general. Until proven otherwise he's just random stone monster # 45 and we don't even know if there's an army of them.

What? Kraang Prime is such a different name than Krang? They're obviously not going to change the second "a" in Kraang (although why they did that in the first place I don't know), and the Prime is because he's the leader.
In IDW they call him General Krang, what's the difference? And there Krang actually is an Utrom and his Android body is totally different, yet people know its Krang.

Because General Krang follows the exact same plot Krang did in the 80's but with a more serious tone. Kraang Prime has an entirely different character, motivation and storyline.

General Krang from IDW is irrelevant to this discussion. This is about OT Krang and Kraang Prime.
There is nothing about Kraang Prime that makes me think of Krang. Different name, different backstory, different appearance. The fact that there is a race of Kraang/Utroms in the Nick universe makes any connection to OT Krang inconceivable. There wasn't a race of Kraang/Utrom in the OT.

There is nothing about Kraang Prime that makes me think of Krang.
Well that's because his episodes haven't even aired yet. I'm sure we'll notice some similarities, but let's work with what we know so far:
Different name,
Not at all. His name is Kraang, and "Prime" means "leader" or "one." They're not going to drop the second "a" for a cartoon where you don't read his name.
different backstory,
You mean like how every character in the Nick show has a different backstory? I don't remember any past version of Splinter having a daughter, or Rat King being Dr. Falco, or April being 16. I love how this is continually ignored when EVERY character in the Nick show has a different backstory.
different appearance.
Yes, because Rat King, Traag, and even the Turtles/Splinter/April/Shredder/Karai look exactly like their past incarnations, right? No, they're all different. Again double standards.
The fact that there is a race of Kraang/Utroms in the Nick universe makes any connection to OT Krang inconceivable. There wasn't a race of Kraang/Utrom in the OT.
Again, what does this have to do with anything? Krang was never an Utrom before either, yet IDW made him one. In this series he's the leader of a race of Kraang.
I can't believe we're actually debating this, because you can debate this for every single character in the Nick show. What character in this series is exactly the same as their past incarnation? Not a single one.
NinjaPug
06-29-2013, 10:50 PM
Why have you changed your stance on the name? Originally you thought Shredder was going to mutate his captured Kraang which would make it super intelligent and it would drop the additional 'a' in it's name and be known as Krang. Now you think kids are too dumb to distinguish between Krang and Kraang and having a name that similar is ridiculous.
Do you think it's odd that you're the only one that thinks this is Krang?
Coola Yagami

Still not Krang. Still not seeing it. Wait til the episode airs. Still looks like the leader of a hive mind race that wants to somehow use April to terraform the Earth.
Rat King still leads rats and has no past origin to speak of. He can be messed with endlessly.
Karai is based mostly on the 2K3 version with her serving Shredder and calling her father.
April doesn't count. She's different in every version by default.
Kraang Prime is just all too different to be considered the same character. Unless they bring in a Technodrome and the robot body... I'm not convinced. Again, General Krang in IDW was for all intents and purposes, the same 80's Krang in a more serious setting. Not so with Kraang Prime He/she/it is an entirely different character, possible a homage to Krang just like Krang himself is a homage to the Utroms. But a homage is about as close as we're gonna get.
Dude you're just insanely obsessed with them changing their original plans to somehow bring Krang into this. You wanted Kraang Prime to die right away to make room for Krang. You wanted Shredder to mutate the captured Kraang into Krang. Now just because they announced Kraang Prime to be male, you think that means it's Krang. Just drop it dude. The only one seeing this character as Krang is you.

Kinda don't think so but sure. I assume this season will wrap things up for the Kraang so that season 2 can focus on the Foot and the whole Karai/Miwa thing.
I doubt they're going to write the Kraang out of the series entirely. Most likely they'll retreat to Dimension X after being defeated on Earth. They'll probably have a smaller role in Season 2 but I can't see the writers just axing them out of the show entirely.
I also think the Kraang are really popular with little kids, so they probably don't want to drop them so early into the show.

It's insteresting to see he (seemly it is male). I like to see the true Krang's counterpart, although Kraang Prime wasn't Krang's counterpart.
When is speculated Kraang Prime would be female, i hoped to see the real Krang, this Kraang Prime could be the real Krang's mother or daughter.
Now that is revelated it is a male, if Kraang Prime wasn't Krang, KP could be Krang's father (Quanin from IDW) or Krang's son. Maybe the next episodes reveals something about it.
Acording to his page "http://tmnt2012series.wikia.com/wiki/Kraang_Prime".
it speculates Kraang Prime could be April relative, if it be a male, it could be his grandfather, and it is quite possible at all, it explains why the Kraang water didn't harm her, and why the kraang looking for her. If Kraang Prime was female, is very hard this speculation could be possible.

The Kraang sound like they're going to be pretty much defeated and retreat to Dimension X in the finale. We'll surely see them in Season 2, but probably far less than in Season 1.
The show has to move on beyond the Kraang stuff and it would get too repetitive if they remained a big presence on the show past Season 1.

I can kind of go with this train of thought too. The Foot have been the most significant villains since the OT, so I wouldn't mind if the Kraang stuck around until a portion of season two, but I would like for Shredder to take over as leader somehow and besting Kraang Prime is some way. The OT had Krang as more of the boss over Shredder and the Foot, maybe this time it could be the other way around.
Also I'd like to see Kraang prime usher in more Rock Soldiers Traag is great, so I'd like to see more.

After seeing the finale its obvious Kraang Prime is essentially Krang. He's updated to fit with the new show just like Shredder/Karai etc. are, but he's the same character.
The Technodrome looked totally different in this show yet its still called the Technodrome. So Kraang Prime, who didn't even call itself "prime" is obviously Krang.

Some are more different than others. Mutagen Man, Rat King and I assume Slash get different origins though to be fair Rat King never had one. Who's to say his real name wasn't Falco? Traag is Traag in name only. Easily coulda been named Moltaro and there wouldn't have been a difference. Karai is following 2k3's lead since now everyone seems to want to make her related to shredder in some way shape or form.
Again, Krang wasn't the leader of a hive mind race out to terraform the world to their tastes for whatever reason (are they conquerors or did they lose their home planet?). Again for an updated Krang, IDW did a much better job.

I'll accept Kraang prime is based on Krang in the same way Traag is based on the previous version. More of a in-name-only kinda deal since he just looks more like an evil Utrom more than anything though not close enough to resemble ch'rell.
I do wonder what you would have thought if they kept it female. I honestly don't see how anything at all would have changed and been different if it had been female from what we saw in the finale. Technically they all seem genderless anyway.

Yeah. I think the reason why Ch'rell is so different, other than his name, is that his design is so physically different than Krang's. He's all red, has a scar, he has a bit of a devil look in his design, etc.
The Kraang themselves look like a mix of OT Krang and the Utroms design. While Kraang Prime feels mostly based on Krang as their leader.

I don't want to have this same argument with you. It's obvious you love the Krang character and want him represented in the 2012 series. I like Krang and liked the little that I saw of Kraang Prime but outside of the tuning fork on the android bodies I just don't see any other similarities. I still think the OT Krang character is represented as a whole through The Kraang species. It's nice to know that someone who worked on the show verified this for me. I don't know why you try to discredit Byerly (who I felt was the best writer for the season) for only working on the first season but the fact is he was involved in the development of the characters for the Nick series and has said that they arent the same character. I realize things change but he has worked on everything we've seen to this point so that aspect of your argument doesn't hold any weight.
We'll just agree to disagree on this subject and move on and enjoy what has turned out to be a very enjoyable series. I hope we get to see more of Kraang Prime in the future.

I also don't think Rat King counts in this since 2K3 opened the door to him being another character. Or I musta missed the episode/comic where Rat King was someone's clone...? I think it leaves it open for him to have yet ANOTHER origin in the next TMNT reboot.

- Karai was never Splinter's daughter in any incarnation, let alone Miwa.
- Rat King was never a scientist named Dr. Falco in any past series. Also his design is radically different than any previous version.
- General Traag is a silent stone golem and doesn't lead an army like the OT.
- The Technodrome looks nothing like the past one
- Kraang Prime is pretty much Krang, updated as the leader of his race. Even his android body looks like a new version as well as the Technodrome.
In IDW Krang actually is an Utrom instead of a disembodied brain, so every incarnation has a new take on Krang. Kinda makes me wish he did exist in 4kids as an actual character, but with Ch'rell around it would have been redundant.

2K3 opened the door to the whole 'Karai is Shredder's daughter' thing. This one took it further by making her think she is his real daughter. IDW is doing a similar thing with her calling him grandfather. The thing is, Karai was NEVER related to the Oroku family, but 2K3 opened the door.
- Rat King was never a scientist named Dr. Falco in any past series. Also his design is radically different than any previous version.
He was never a clone of Bishop either. 2K3 opened the door for that one.

Updated as nothing. Pretty much the idealized version of an evil Utrom. Prime and his race are just evil Utroms using the Kraang name. Would you have thought this if he was called 'King Utromo' or something?

Eventually he's gonna want Karai, DogPound and Fishface to die, the Technodrome to get tank treads, Kraang Prime to be hit with a shrink ray and learn perfect English, Bebop and Rocksteady to appear and Shredder to live with them.
And spend the rest of the season in wacky attempts to steal different possible energy sources to re-power the Technodrome.

The Kraang themselves are evil versions of the Utroms, while Kraang Prime is basically Krang.
Since the Utroms will probably never be in this show, it made sense to make the brains evil and have Kraang as its leader.

The Utroms are only boring because there's nothing really to do with them. The TCRI story is mostly the same as in Mirage and after that they serve no purpose. They mostly exist just to explain where the mutagen came from.
The OT and Nick just decided to have Krang supply the mutagen instead so the Utroms are irrelevant.

Uh, Cubed, I think you forgot this quote in the 4Kids series:
Utrom 1: I hate walking on my tentacles.
Utrom2: Oh, shut up, Krang.
So, he actually was in 4Kids for a brief homage even if he didn't do anything after that.

Now that he's confirmed male we'll probably see him commanding Traag in Dimension X too.
Not that I disbelieve you, but maybe I missed wen this was announced?
I actually kinda liked the idea of Kraang Prime being female. Made a fresh change. And since Roseanne Barr was voicing I kinda just put it in my own head that KP was female anyway.
Oh well :/

Kraang is male. They probably gave it a female voice because its hard to make a good Krang voice without Pat Farley.

Even though it was not Krang... it was most likely done to follow up with the whole hivemind/queen bee/bor queen idea. I like the Braniac circles on its head.

This constant arguing is annoying. Can't we just agree on something, even if it's just to stop the arguing? It's branched out into other threads, and, is this thread titled "Is Kraang Prime the Krang?"

Why should we agree with that when someone who worked on the show said it's not true? Posts like this are almost as annoying as the original argument.

Ciro created Kraang Prime to be an updated take on the original Krang. I'm not sure why this is so hard to believe since every character in this show is an updated version of an old character.

Pretty meh after seeing it in the show to be quite honest.
I'll take snarky 1980's Krang over this any day.
AS much as I love Roseanne I don't know if I like her in this role.

OF COURSE YOU'D CHOOSE THE ORIGINAL KRANG! He appeared in over a hundred episodes while Kraang Prime only appeared in one so far. Seriously, next time give it at least a few episodes before you compare it to a much more regular character.

In terms of Krang I'd say:
Original Krang > Kraang Prime > General Krang (IDW).
I don't want to include Ch'rell here simply because he was not intended to be Krang at all.

Even though he is technically 'THE KRANG' of that show. Honestly, what's in a name? The Utroms were all over 2K3 and noone demanded that one of them MUST be their leader named Krang. Just call them Kraang, suddenly everyone goes apeshit and demands one of them be THE Krang.

The regular Kraang are basically evil versions of the Utroms. Kraang Prime is basically Krang himself, who uses an android body, lives in the Technodrome and comes from Dimension X.
People need to stop mentioning "queen" or "hive bee" Kraang...because that was just speculation from months ago before we knew what Kraang Prime actually was.
Kraang Prime is NOT female, it is NOT a queen, and even though it seems to have control powers over the other Kraang, it is its own entity.

Isn't the Borg Queen basically her own entity while the rest of the Borg are in the hivemind? It's the same basic concept. Prime is basically their queen bee, or king bee if you prefer. Either way, Krang never had a legion of Krangs following him. Nor did he want to conquer the world for his race, it was mostly for himself and I doubt he'd care about his race, if there were any 'Krangenzoids' left.

I am thinking that the reason why Kraang Prime was the size that she is is because it an homage to that to the fact that Krang could grow when he was in his android suit to 50 - 60 stories tall and I guess they felt that wanted the character to already have been big whether or not it was in the suit or not.

Exactly, so they update the Utroms by making them evil and making one of them their leader. And callin them the Kraang. I honestly did not get any sort of Krang vibe at all durin the Prime/April scene.

Not to mention it spoke with its own voice instead of through a robot speaker like the others.

That's true, I forgot about that.
Am I the only one who really didn't like the android body on KP? It just seemed so bland to me...and I really didn't like how it had noodle arms and legs..that won't make a good action figure!

Really? I wouldn't know, I don't read the IDW comics. I get that they made the body like it is to make it more modern and threatening or whatever, but I still think it's kind of lame. I think it's the limbs, the suit isn't very threatening when all it's arms can do are flop around and slap the turtles

It's hard to tell, it could have its own seperate robot speaker that doesn't sound like the others. Either way, the whole scene felt more like 'what if one of the Kraang could talk better' or 'this is the leader of all the Kraang', but nothing felt like... 'Krang' to me. Now if it started saying it wanted a new body, or was going to use April's powers to open the portal to lead troops of Stone Warriors from Dimension X ready to conquer Earth, blah blah blah, then I woulda bought it.
I still think the scene of the Kraang raising their hands like crazy when Kraang Prime spoke felt like drones praising their queen bee.
