I thought their durability and strength would match those of a human at that particular age in their life.

Considering that reptiles have thicker skin than humans, and with their shells, I'd say yes. Plus their mutation seems to have drastically increased their strength. In most versions, they have been shown performing feats of strength that most humans would find impossible even under the effects of adrenaline.

I always interpreted them as being slightly tougher and stronger than humans. Not like super-powered or anything but still tougher in general.

I think they might be the tiniest bit more durable than a human. They're pretty agile though, so hits don't matter as much.

As for strength, I think they are a little stronger than the average human. Whether that is because of the mutagen or their training, who knows.

If I can remember correctly the old RPG handbook ( which I've always gone by) says they have Olympic Strength and Agility, so that would be above average strength comparedto most of us.

They are most certainly NOT average strngth of a 15 yr old human.
Part of me has always entertained the idea that maybe their martial arts aren't that good, it's because of their mutant strength and agility that makes them formitable. Plus their mutant metabolism would explain why they need such a high coloric diet!

I suppose it would also matter what version we're going by... 'cus the 2003 versions the Turtles looked ripped.
But I could see them being at an Olympic Level. They are constantly training and fighting but being at an Olympic level means, to me, that there martial arts skills should be higher as Olympians are at the peak of their game and only other Olympians can match them.

I'm not sure....

I think they are more durable than an average teenager...and stronger
(who wouldn't be though? they've been training all their lives)

they don't seem to weigh much though....cause Mikey was getting dragged by Karai who pulled his kusarigama. (.....and almost everyone) XD

I'll buy the Olympic strength and agility- but their durability comes mostly from their shells and tougher skin, I think. And there were a few times in the OT where we see them doing things like pushing over brick walls (or partial ones, at least), bashing open heavy metal or wooden doors, and things like that, that most humans probably couldn't do. so they might be slightly higher than even Olympic level- possibly like Captain America's super-soldier formula gave him slightly above human-level strength.

Going by their rooftop fight in #1, they can take a lot of punishment. They got cuts all over them and they still can fight The Shredder.

As far as strength goes, it seems pretty inconsistent. I seem to recall in the OT one of the turtles lifts a car over his head on his own.

Beat to the punch because I was going to say I read somewhere they have Olympic level stats.

I don't remember one single turtle lifting a car, but do remember all four of them lifting some vehicle.

I don't remember one single turtle lifting a car, but do remember all four of them lifting some vehicle.

In the OT's "New York Shiniest" (Season 2), Leonardo suggests lifting the robbers' van to discourage fighting and all four of them lift it off the street together above their heads. Then Raphael is relieved when the robbers run away and says, "Good thing they left. Otherwise I couldn't hold this for another five (or ten) minutes."

I assumed that the superhuman strength (not excessively crazy like Superman, but more like extreme bodybuilding though) had more to do with their "mutant" powers rather than being a turtle.

Ya Ive heard they have olympic level strength and agility due to the mutation. And the durability would be their shells I guess.

So they have the strength of a steriod induce hulk like olympian, but the agility of an scrawny olympic gymnist. hmmm.... interesting.

I always assumed that they had Captain American strength and agility, not super-man or hulk strength, thats how I always viewed.

Yep, that's the exact scene I was thinking of.

The OT did have a lot of inconsistency when it came to the Turtles' attributes. Even if they did have more stamina than that of a human at peak physical condition, they would try to avoid taking hits altogether regardless.

I would echo the points already made, saying they are much more durable than a human and their strength and agility would be on par or slightly surpass anyone with peak athletic abilities.

There's an episode in the original cartoon in which Mikey gets turned into a human and he becomes unable to do a lot of stuff he was able to do as a turtle because he's significantly weaker.

That was from the episode "The Gang's All Here", just for reference.
