View Full Version : What do you predict the next Lionsgate DVD release will be?

Everytime we thought Lionsgate was done with TMNT DVD releases, they surprise us and release another one. Just a few years ago we didn't even know if Seasons 9 or 10 would get released on DVD (there was an almost 2 year gap between Season 8 to Season 9 for those who recall) but then we got them.

Then after we finally got Season 10 we thought they were finished. But then they release a Complete series TMNT Van set with all the discs for the holidays.

After that we thought that was it, as they re-released everything. But then they just released a Season 3 DVD set, compiling the seperate Season 3 releases from before. So what next?

I'm predicting a DVD set collecting Seasons 8-10 in one case, for a 24 episode release. Even though those were Season sets, they're only measly 8 episode DVDs. I can see the final 3 seasons being re-released together next.

A non-pizza box release of Season 5 (was it?)

If they re-release Season 5 with Planet of the Turtleoids in its rightful place, I'd be all over it. I doubt they would bother though.

Jester is on the right track. All they've ever done is repackage old discs.

Maybe they will re-release seasons 1 & 2 and call them seasons 1 & 2 on the DVD cases.
They could also re-release season 4 and include Once Upon A Time Machine and the 13 European vacation episodes.

Possibly something for the first season next year if the movie is a hit

Wouldn't be surprised if they release a complete non-party van set.

Maybe the Supermutant OVA? Or the first season of 2k3?

I don't think they have the rights/license to release Supermutant OVA or any of the 4Kids stuff (2k3)...

I can see Lionsgate definitely putting something new out when the new movie hits in 2014. Mostly for nostalgia purposes for people seeing that movie.

They might just re-release the Turtle Van boxset a second time.

If they released it in just a freaking normal dvd case I might consider purchasing the damn thing.

This would be nice. While I appreciate their unique packaging in concept, as it's to give fans something extra/cool, they're really inconvenient to store. Some don't fit right, others are just too wide...

Rereleasing the van.

Maybe re-release Seasons 4, 5, and 6 in the right episode order? That would be nice... though they probably wouldn't take the time to do that.

I wouldn't mind a non-pizza box Season 5, though...

Wait, let me get this right here...Season 5 comes in like a pizza box case? Not a regular DVD case? As in, this thing isn't going to sit in my DVD shelf very well?

...Well that's disappointing.

It'll fit. It's designed to LOOK like a pizza box about the size of a DVD case, it's just wider because of the gimmick. Like two normal DVD cases wide.

Ohhh, okay. That's not near as bad then. Still will look a little weird next to the other sets, but they already look weird enough with the radically different takes on cover design from set to set.

I was taking it to mean that the set was literally the size and shape of a pizza box, as in my only choices in getting that season right now were getting a gimmick packaging thing (kinda like the Turtle Van complete series set), or not getting that season at all.

The only new thing I'd be interested in is a blu-ray release of the first season. I'm pretty happy with the rest of the series as I have it. :twink:

Yeah...what the MSTie said. The release looks like this:
http://collider.com/uploads/imageGallery/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_DVD/teenage_mutant_ninja_turtles_season_5_dvd.jpg
With a plastic sleeve to keep the Pizza box and the other cardboard together so it's standard DVD size:
The discs are only in the top 2/3s of the box:

The biggest issue with it is you have to do a lot of unboxing just to watch the discs.

That does look pretty unwieldy...be nice if they did announce a re-release of Season 5 in a normal DVD case before I get around to it, but seeing as how Season 4 will be the next I get probably, there's no telling if that will happen before I get to getting this set or not.

I like the pizza box set.
You would...

I just find it a bit more clunky than a standard case is all. It's clever, but needlessly over complicated.

CyberCubed

I think it is awesome. However Season 5 should be re-released, but not because of the case, but to include the skipped episodes in their rightful place.

Gyt Kaliba
07-20-2013, 02:10 PM
I'm not saying I don't like the case (though now that we're on that subject...it's kinda meh, honestly), but the fact that it's going to clash so weirdly with my other sets is what bothers me most.

Toby Barrett
07-20-2013, 03:15 PM
Yeah. I'll just wait for a complete series rerelease in a normal case. No vans or pizza boxes. :p

I predict most of us will be long dead by then, considering how long it took them to release the series in the first place.

I could see them doing a complete series set properly this time. All the episodes in proper order with all the same extras plus a ton more in a new packaging.

It makes perfect sense to spend the extra money to do this with the new movie coming out.

I think at this point the only thing I'd buy would be re-touched episode on blu-ray.

I'm pretty much at the point where if Lionsgate or some other company doesn't release any more OT DVD's, I'll be fine. We now have each season all in one set plus the Turtle Van for the complete series. Even though there aren't many extra features, finding extra stuff online allows me to make a "Bonus disc" for some in-depth stuff. Since Blu-Ray isn't feasible for the OT production quality and streaming is already available, I don't think there's anything else that really needs to be released, unless some rare outtakes of recordings or animation production is discovered.

Now the 4kids series? That's another story.

Wow, nice job settling for the extremely mediocre. People like you are the reason why Lionsgate got away with half assing the whole series when releasing it.

How about the series released in actual REMASTERED format from the original masters instead of just taking whatever n-th generation copy they had lying around. And there is so much untapped turtle extras not included it's hillarious. Turtle Tips, all the toy commercials? And how about a CD soundtrack from the series, probably the most wanted, holy grail, item of all?

For a fan who grew up watching the OT and had such an impact on his life, I refuse to settle for the crap that Lionsgate gave us.

How about a special satellite that can scratch your ass with a laser beam from space, while we're wishing for things?

Nah, but seriously, we would ALL love to have that kind of stuff. They will NEVER spend the time and money required to do all that, though. The resources required to do it vs. the money they'd make back on it is a pretty wide gap. Thing is, MOST people don't care enough about slightly better picture and sound for remastering a 20-year old cartoon show to be worth it.

We'd love to get all that stuff you mentioned, sure, but this isn't a perfect world and sometimes "settling for mediocrity" is better than having nothing at all. Most times, actually. People shouldn't walk around all entitled.

See the AMAZING care and quality that Shout Is doing for all the Saban related shows including Power Rangers?

Yea.....that COULD have been TMNT. But no, we get Lionsgate, who listed fullscreen and 2.0 audio as 'Special Features', for their releases.

No one cares about The Next Mutation. It was lucky it even got a release. Besides, it was about 1/500th the popularity that the OT was.

I love you for this. I have the Turtle van version and a few of the first single season releases, and it seems to me Lionsgate did the laziest job possible with these. A couple of episodes, at least on my version, have moments where the film warps like a VHS tape does. I really hope they do a remastered version but I don't see it happening.

I have the entire OT DVD releases, and the Van set... Right now I'd LOVE to see all of 2k3 released properly! I can dream, I know! :/

And yeah... the Van set quality is something to be desired in some places :/

Wouldn't it cost millions to remaster the OT on DVD? I mean the show was filmed on extremely old 80's and 90's film, that stuff isn't easily updated.

Yeah.... the first disc has some sort of error on it where it skips a brief moment, and then some of the later DVDs look like they've been recorded straight from an old VHS tape, complete with rolling image at the top!! :( :tsad:

Maybe its just some defective discs?

Does the turtle van have seasons 2 and 3 as all those separate volume discs, or are they consolidated like the new season 3 release?
