View Full Version : Old characters making a comeback in IDW/Nick now that PL is gone

As most people know PL refused to have many Fred Wolf characters appear in the 4kids cartoon, so an entire generation of TMNT fans didn't get to see a lot of the old characters from the original toon and the Archie comics. However now with PL is gone, IDW and Nick seem to bringing back a lot of old characters:
- Krang himself (aka the REAL Krang) has returned in IDW, it is unknown if he will be in Nick.
- Slash has been brought back in both IDW and Nick. Before this he was only in 3 episodes of the original toon and two arcs of the Archie TMNT comics. He was also a boss in two videogames, TMNT III and Turtles in Time.
- General Traag has returned in both IDW and Nick. While in Nick it doesn't seem like he can talk (or maybe he can, he didn't get to do much so far), in IDW he's pretty much the same type of character he was in the original toon.
- The Neutrinos have returned in the IDW comics. At this point its unknown if they will appear in the Nick toon, but I get the feeling they probably will once the turtles travel to Dimension X.
- Metalhead has returned in the Nick cartoon, unless you count the evil Turtlebot in 4kids to be the same character.
- Mutagen Man has returned in the Nick show. While he isn't "full formed" yet, this is what The Pulverizer turned into.
- Bebop and Rocksteady are returning in IDW. It is unknown if they will appear in the Nick show. They are however getting new toys from Playmates
Of other older characters I have the strong feeling Mondo Gecko will be returning as he always seemed popular with the older crowd. And the Nick show probably can't resist giving Mikey a "buddy skater" and so forth. I also don't think we've seen the last of "fly Baxter," as either Nick or IDW's version will probably go that route.

Fly-Baxter would be fun for the Nick show, if even for a single episode where he returns to normal at the end.
I love all the mutants in the new show, but I would like to see a return of the mob bosses from the OT, or more of the Purple Dragons.
I also remember reading that the Flaming Carrot and Cudley were supposed to be appearing in the Nick show. I wonder if that's still a possibility.

Most of those appeared in Turtles Forever. Heck even Hun was supposed to be the 4Kids version of Slash. Discounting that as a unique exception I suppose you're correct but I don't think it's made as much of a difference as one might think at least in the cartoon.
Until Kraang Prime shows up and we can judge fully the Kraang so far seem to be evil Utroms. Masquerading as humans, TCRI even their portal looks like a Transmat. It's really only their name that is a homage to Krang.
Traag seems to have little in common with General Traag other than being made of rock. If he was called something like Talos or Destructor would people even think of General Traag. (I'd argue the 4Kids Turtlebot had a lot more in common with MetalHead than the two Traags.)
Also Laird said he'd be fine with NECA making OT characters but would rather they make more Mirage characters first. Sadly we didn't even get that. So it's not like something like the Classics Line was off limits back then.
I think the big difference now that Peter Laird isn't involved is we have a lot more mutants in general. In the 4Kids series they either were either subtly killed off or demutated.
I also don't think we've seen the last of "fly Baxter," as either Nick or IDW's version will probably go that route.
If we're talking about IDW they've already done a homage to Baxter being a fly. Maybe if they hadn't done that I could see them properly doing a 'Baxter Fly' story.

I love what Nick is doing and I love OT.
All is good.
I'm thinking we'll see Groundchuck and Dirtbag, as well as Ray, Mona Lisa, and possibly even Pizzaface on the nick show.

I read this and realized that I'm still annoyed at the art direction for Slash in the comic - that he looked like Tokka drove me nuts.

Y'know what character I'd be interested in seeing again in some form? Now...hear me out on this; Mitsu.
Ever since I found out that she was supposed to be in TMNT: Tournament Fighters but after the poor reception of the the third film the character was reworked as Aska I thought whatever the developer had in mind to bring the character to the present might work now.
Perhaps she'd be a good fit for the IDW series were we could have her reincarnated or have her have a story similar to Hattori.
Why? Well we've got some familiarity but she's more or less a blank slate to work with and I think it'd be cool to have another female character, specificaly a ninja that is a ally or neutral character that doesn't belong to another company like Aska or Lucindra.

I'd love to see any of those 3 gals come back, but even moreso I'd like to see Vam Mi get revamped. No pun intended. Chinese vampires have always intrigued me. They're quite different than how they're portrayed in the west. I think she'd make a good fit for IDW.

Out of the Next Mutation I'd love to see her come back as well and Dr. Quease.

I would like to see characters from the Archie Series comics brought back into the Nick series like Ninjara.

I wholeheartedly agree. But I heard that Ninjara and some of the others might not be able to.
