View Full Version : The future of Timothy...

So reviewing all the new information we got from SDCC, it seems that Donnie does get somewhere to getting his life back to normal.....somewhat with those mutagen arms and legs. But judging from the Casey Jones trailer, it seems Timothy/Mutagen Man is......just going to become a generic monster bad guy villain who attacks people for no reason....
I'm kinda scared really. I really don't want it to be one of those scenarios where the writers just turn Timothy into a generic bad guy. You'd figure he'd gane some sort of sympathy for others after what happened. But....I really want to know what the heck his role is going to be now that we know he's doing something next season, positive or not.

I'm really under the impression that Casey actually "rescues" April by mistake. That either April hasn't met Mutagen Man yet and panics at his appearance, prompting the rescue, OR Mutagen Man actually is sent up to the surface with April to protect her, fights off some Foot or Krang trying to catch April, maybe even carrying her off to safety, and Casey only sees this monstrous creature holding a seemingly helpless girl.
Also, we see a lot of detail of the chunk of aluminum flying at Timothy's face, and his eyes and mouth give a panicked look. I feel like this is a case of a good character being hurt by another good character due to a misunderstanding.
I'd be surprised if they made Tim into a villain. He really ought to be an ally.

Maybe he'll be killed off?

I hope not! He's a good character that has many possibilities, so it's unlikely.

I seriously doubt that Donatello would make him capable of oozing mutagen out of his hands.
I'm not sure how he ends up with them but it seems like The Kraang will get their hands on Timothy and build or modify the suit.
Generic bad guy doesn't seem nearly as likely as turning him into a character with a major vendetta against the turtles who is capable of horrific things.
I can see Timothy raging and going villain. He sees the turtles, Splinter, Fishface, Dogpound all get mutated into awesomeness and he gets turned into a pile of goo.
Also Spike turning into Slash, that could be another turning point.
Also Timothy could be becoming a villain because of a sense of betrayal; Donnie saving April's dad before him, and the turtles saving April before him.

I think he'll become neutrual.
He will grow a grunge againts Donnie, thinking that becouse of him and the turtles he's now a monster. But he'll still be a good guy who wants to be a hero.

I really hope he's not a villain. The turtles need more allies! Right now all they've got (besides Splinter and April) is Metalhead (who isn't even a living thing) and Leatherhead. I'm not sure if Newtralizer will be a villain or ally so that's why I didn't mention him.
I really can't see Tim raging against the turtles, especially since Donnie made him that body! If he is going to be a villain then I hope we don't see him much.

Newtralizer is a bounty hunter and was seen eating a Kraang at SDCC so not sure as of yet though. Looks like Kirby is training to fight in the finale trailer. So the turtles have Splinter, April, Metalhead, Leatherhead and Kirby. This is why I would like Slash an ally too. Mutagen Man, Slash, Casey could be all allies in season 2.

I really don't see him blaming the turtles. It's not like the gang egg him on to becoming a mutant and Donnie told him at least three times to not get mutated!
It's not like the gang egg him on to becoming a mutant
True, but he obviously took it that way. Now that he's mutated, he's even less reasonable.

Kinda doubt he will shape shift. Also, he'd probably hate the Turtles cause they treat him like crap. It would be cool to have a villain that will attack all the Turtles, except for one of them, in this case, Donatello.
I can already see some part when he's about to finish them off, but he lets them go cause Donnie asks him to.

The only prob I have with this is he didn't have any evil qualities before mutation. He only joined the Foot cause he thought they were good guys and because he was training 'like Don told him to'. They better come up with a good reason to be a bad guy.
Or he could just be a mindless flipped out monster. That's kinda what he was at the end of the episode.

I can see him lashing out given he seems the extreme emotional type. They kept telling him mutagen was dangerous but he kept digging himself deeper. Now he's a mutant blob and the fantasy world has become his permanent reality, he likely won't find it as fun anymore and will direct his anger at them.

Well, I can think of a few ways things could turn out for him. Personally, I think he's going to be an ally in some way towards the Turtles, partly because of his personality that we know. I think it would be a waste for them to build him as a guy who's obsessed with playing hero, and then throwing it all away the moment he realizes he royally f*cked up doesn't make much sense for me. Possible, yes, but it would feel really out of character for him. I'm willing to bet his outburst at the Turtles was due partly to all the pain he went through, both physically and mentally (along with the burning and the weapons being hurled at him, seeing everyone run away in horror from him topped with the fact he knows he did it to himself- all that coming at him in one shot could make anyone lose it) and also, the moment they get him in the canister, the anger just vanished. I'm guessing there's more to the Casey trailer then we're led to believe, because it seems like there's more to the character.
Of course, there's still a chance he has gone insane, and I have a few ideas as to why.
The guy has a hard time listening to others over his instinct. He might warp the situation around and find a way to blame the turtles, like, "Donnie didn't try hard enough to stop me," "You were jealous I would make a better hero than you," "If the turtles didn't exist, I would never have been inspired by them! It's their fault!!" Hell, look at the new design for Slash. In some odd way... he's got a similar build to Tim's original form.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YhgqnRanBX8/UeNfnchuf_I/AAAAAAAAEoI/ga1xh0DUm50/s400/slash.png
He might go into a fit of rage, believing it should been him coming out like that.
Then, stepping away from petty grudges, it's possible the mutagen could of altered his mind in some way or another that would cause him to butt heads with the turtles.. but so far, I can't tell. I doubt his intelligence has been lowered (looking at the trailer, he's capable of using his liquid body for natural (... as you can get) movement thanks to the glove like arms and legs- and not just that, but he's certainly a lot faster and is able to fight.
Though, like I said, I still think there's a good chance he'll be a good guy in the end. Whether he stays with the heroes or finds his own place is the question. It's possible he'd stay with the Turtles under Donnie's supervision to keep the suit in check and make sure everything's in line, and judging by the concept art:
http://herotaku.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=blogentry&attach_id=792
I wonder if their a specific reason why he only has one metal band on his left leg, and nothing on his other.... one would assume it has a purpose, seeing as he has one on both hands, as well. But I'm really curious about the mutagen supply thing.
It looks like he's going to run on mutagen to live... so maybe Donnie has to supply it, or-
... or what if the Kraang are the ones supplying it to keep him alive long enough to find a cure... and... what if he is trying to capture April for-
---
*EDIT*
Ok, just saw a certain clip setting up the events of season 2... if that's the case, then Donny would be able to score enough mutagen to last quite some time, assuming Tim stays on their side. Hundreds of mutagen canisters raining over the city...
But man oh man, all hell's about to break loose in NYC and toy store shelves.

I can't see Tim staying with the Turtles too long. I think he'll be a tragic villain. That despite going evil, Don will still try to help.
Also, I'm starting to see a trend in the Turtles allies. Nearly all of them seem to have PTSD or are just plane psychos! Casey Jones, Leatherhead, & I'm assuming Tim, and Slash will also be a little screwed up as well.

Don not being able to find a cure seems like a pretty good reason for Timothy to appeal to the Kraang, yes. Don shouldn't find a cure. He's a teenager that enjoys tinkering and everything else of knowledge that is needed within that. Solving a complicated mutagen from another dimension is not within the criteria.
Also, probably a flawed theory, but did anyone else consider that everyone that have been successfully mutated have been in contact with an animal within short time, if not the last creature they were in contact with?
Timothy weren't in contact with any animals. But if he was in contact with the turtles that could have been the reason. In contact with someone that has already been mutated, seems like a good reason for a flaw with the mutagen there, if you ask me. (Actually this is pretty obvious)
I would rather like Timothy to join the Kraang because they offer him the cure for the participation of something, and that Timothy accepts not necessarily because he ''has gone bad'' but because he wants his normal life back.

:)I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks the same.
I'm thinking Timothy's character may develop more over the next season. As much as Timothy comes across as a nuisance to the Turtles, there's some subtle elements of fate throughout Timothy's role so far.
In the beginning while Timothy was in the lair with the turtles, Donnie could've just told him to go away, or he could've left Timothy to fend for himself. It seems a little strange that Donatello took some of his time in the first place to try to train, help, and rescue Timothy after all the trouble he put the turtles through. It was pity that made Donnie feel like he should give Timothy some help and mentoring.
Now after Timothy's mistake, pity played another part in the scene where Donnie stated they weren't going to leave him there to blow up with the building. Since Donnie accepted Timothy as his responsibility, I don't believe Donnie is going to give up on Timothy as his potential pupil and possible friend. Perhaps Timothy has never had anyone with enough patience?
Now, in reference to his appearance in the Casey Jones Trailer (http://ca.ign.com/videos/2013/07/19/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-casey-jones-trailer), I'm doubting that he was attacking April. In fact, what if Timothy becomes like Donatello's sidekick? Perhaps Timothy was told to watch over April and protect her?
I'd be surprised if Nickelodeon has plans to make him into a future villain, since Donnie's grown an attachment to his misunderstood pupil. Whatever Nickelodeon decides for Timothy, I'm sure I'm going to like it. Totally stoked on his mutation abilities as Mutagen Man!

The overall style of mutagen man's design doesn't seem like Donnie's work to me. Particularly since the hands drip ooze. I think maybe perhaps the Pulverizer's tank gets carried off to the Shredder at one point. And the Shredder convinces the Pulverizer the Turtles never cared about him and Donatello wasn't actually going to do anything to help return him to normal. But he on the other hand does care of his unfortunate predicament and wants to add him to his army.
VaughnMichael

I could see that happening.
I bet April's dad takes him away or leads the kraang and shredder to the lair.
But yeah I sort of have this feeling that Tim wasn't trying to hurt April but perhaps she doesn't know him and Don sent him after her or something like that or he was with her and Casey doesn't know and attacks him.

Since mutagen man's hands and legs are lethal (ooze!) I doubt Donnie will be the one who will make the changes to the container where he is incased. On the contrary, my hunch is that it will be built by Baxter, and later on something goes wrong and as a result of one of his "old plans gone wrong" (as quoted from the official site (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=43701)), Baxter gets mutated into a mutant fly.

Actually, I've been thinking about that... perhaps it's a way to protect himself or others from Kraang bots or evil mutants.
Personally, I don't see Kranng or Shredder adding him to their army and would sooner dump Tim's body in the sea than go through the trouble of making a suit for "That fool, Pulverizer." He was patient enough to allow Baxter to give Fishface new legs, but he knew he was going to get a reliable and skilled fighter if it worked.
Dogpound was ready to waste Tim the moment the experiment failed. Their looking for the best, and if it's true Mutagen Man's suit needs to be maintained and supplied mutagen in order for him to live, he would seem more like a liability than an welcoming edition to the team.
Though, watching the clip again I noticed something Casey says;
"Are you kidding me!? Do you know what this is!? This is Casey Jones vs evil robo ninjas!"
I could see that being from two separate moments, here's what I mean:
*Casey has Tim pinned to the ground, his hockey stick in hand*
Casey: "Game over, freak. Now..."
*He taps the glass jar with the end of the stick
Casey: "-How's about we crack open this fish-tank 'n see how long you can last without the spacesuit..."
*He straightens up*
Casey: "'Jone's steps up to plate,'
*Pulls it back like a bat*
'Casey: "AND-'"
*April grabs the back of the stick*
Casey: "Hey-HEY! What's th' matter with ya!? I'm trying to save you're stinking life-!"
April: "I- *UGH* APPRECIATE-"
*She struggles with Casey and the Hockey stick, leading Casey away from Tim. She shoves the stick back at him, knocking him to the ground*
April: *continued* -Your concern, but if you stopped to THINK for a minute and would just LISTEN to me- you would've have known you were "SAVING" me from my FRIEND!"
...
Casey: "... Fer-END?"
*His eyes dart to Tim, hand on glass as he shakes his head around, re-gaining focus*
Casey: "... Are you kidding me!? Do you know what THIS is!? It's a- IT'S-!"
April: "HIS name is Timothy."
Tim: Better known as- THE PULVER-"
*Tim neglects the trash can he caught his foot in, topples over*
Tim: *off screen* "STUPID TRASH CAN!"
April: "... It's complicated..."
As for the "This is Casey Jones vs evil robo ninjas!"
Well, Pulverizer doesn't really look like a robot... and ninja? Yeah. My money is on the return of robotic Foot ninja's.
Actually, I'm just going to copy and paste something I wrote on DA a while ago on the scene:
Personally, I think Mutagen Man is on the good side. To just make him evil not only... changes his character entirely, but they set up a good opertunity for character growth with him and that would be a massive waste.
It's easy to think he's gone insane from what happened in his last episode, but if that's the case, why wasn't he snarling and banging on the jar if he wanted to fight them? He doesn't seem to have any kind of ill will towards the turtles, it just came off as blind rage.
But in turn, why does it look like he's going after April like that? I'm guessing they know each other, no reason to keep the Timothy thing a secret, so she could be out with him, and it looks like it it's at night to avoid attention.
It's assumed he's there to protect April... but what if she's there for his sake? I don't know why, but I can imagine this scenario of her taking him to his home to... explain some things... I just have this image of them in an old fashioned living room, sitting down - his mom in utter shock, staring at a nervous 16 year old red headed girl sitting next to... that on the sofa, twiddling his massive thumbs... "Soo... Mom...uhm.... This is April!"
*She gives a small wave, laughing nervously*
...
"... Now, I----'m sure you have... one or two questions..."
Biggest reason, he just has potential to be a pretty funny character, given the Pulverizer's personality and his never give up attitude. Take that away, then what was the point of introducing Pulverizer?
But yeah I sort of have this feeling that Tim wasn't trying to hurt April but perhaps she doesn't know him and Don sent him after her or something like that or he was with her and Casey doesn't know and attacks him.
I doubt this, knowing the relationship with Donnie and April, Timothy probably will feel that Donnie cares more about April than he does about helping him. (Which is true) And thus will take his anger out on her, which is why it will be a big deal when Casey, not Donnie saves her.

Ah, had no idea a season 2 trailer was out.
- Wait, it looks like it's Raph and Mikey he's got his hands around, and Leo is tied up by his... mouth... Oh lord, this is one screwed up villain... I LOVE IT!
Yeup, looks like he's against the turtles. Would have been cool to see him as an ally, but hey - I'm looking forward to seeing why he goes bad.
If Donny's the one who comes up with the suit, it's possible he'll be outraged with his new form and blame Donny for not doing a good enough job (It would be really interesting to see the two arguing during a fight, with Tim blaming Donny for the situation, only for him lose all sense of sympathy for him), or maybe it's the mutation that causes him to snap completely.
Though, I heard he was supposed to play an important role from here on, it could be possible that even after he goes rogue, Donny is still doing everything in his power to find a way to cure him, whether Timothy want's to work with him or not.
Also, Mikey's room... is that a Chris Bradford cutout I see? And his bed- Ah man, the art team went nuts with this guy XD

What if someone takes Timothy, he breaks out and comes back as a shapeshifter, but he doesn't remember who he was before because his power always alters/delete his memory.
It would fit the tragedy how he was always trying so desperately to be someone else and because he change his body so many times that he no longer has sole identity of who he was before.
For example, he could come back as a mutant turtle and thinks in his mind that the other four are his real brothers but he has no real memories of when he was timothy the human and what even creepier is that he keep talking about his nightmares of how he and the turtles keeping killing this mutant in jar monster and how he always ends feeling really sad for some reason after delivering the killing blow. It's like he keeps fabricating memories that don't exist but he assuring that they are real. :teek:

I think that would be a great idea. However I don't think the shape shifting thing will happen as it wouldn't fit what going on with him right now. I do think that over the three or so months the Turtles have been away from New York. Timmy has certainly been removed from Donnie's lab be it the Foot Clan or the Kraang that officially took him.

I think as far as the Turtles know he may still be in their old lair. They know their old lair is no longer their home, so if they are able to get back to the city. The only reason they would have to go back to their old lair is to see what belongings are still salvageable and take them to their new lair.
As far as we know the Foot, the Kraang, maybe the EPF could have gone down there to see if there is anything there that can help them find where the Turtles have gone or can be used against the Turtles.
I don't know how useful Timothy would be in the eyes of the Shredder. But Timmy is going to be a reoccurring villain until he's restored to human or destroyed. So I can see Shredder using Timothy as a grunt whose job is to hunt down or destroy. Because the Shredder thanks to his alliance with the Kraang can supply Timothy with an endless supply of mutagen and get him to believe that it is the Turtles who made him into what he is.

I think either shredder or the kraang are going to find Mutagen Man in the turtle's old lair and thaw him out. In some concept art that it shows some mutagen canisters powering MM's suit. Not sure if that design will be used later but it would make sense if he is brought back to life by someone to be used against the turtles.

Ten episodes left and he's most likely not going to play a part in any of them, if that's true then the joke about him never coming back will be fufilled.

He might be the final episode as it happens in the future, so he might finally defrost.

I sorta wish there would be a final scene post-credits of the last one. Donnie in his lab suddenly remembers. "Oh, sorry about that Timothy." Gives him retro mutagen, the guy demutates and runs out of there never to come back and Donnie seen watching in side foreground, not saying a word. The end. :trazz:

Still, we've had several threads discussing Timothy/Mutagen Man over the past year or so that die out. What makes this thread so special that it had to get a revival? It's dumb.

Again, without Roger Craig Smith or someone who sounds like him, he's nothing.
I honestly feel that had the season 1 team remained and RCS was reoccurring, Mutagen Man would've played an active role. If I were to take a guess, I almost feel he'd be a sacrifice in creating retromutagen with/without April's DNA. Either that or he would've possibly been a rogue mutant appearing from time to time. Had that been the case, maybe he could've joined the Mutanimals if Rockwell could get through him with his psychic powers.
It's speculation on my part, but something tells me one of those two options may have been the case had things worked out. Alas, it didn't; Mutagen Man Unleashed I find underrated and was curious on the direction it'd go. Hopefully, the final Nick arc in season 5 shows a small glimpse of him defrosting or being free and either cured/killed.

That's not true at all. We know the last arc takes place 50 years in the future. It's very likely he might be in that arc as a human already (with his de-mutating happening off-screen), and so forth.
I expect that last arc to have a lot of endgame moments for the cast. Wouldn't be surprised if Tiger Claw gets a non-speaking cameo and we see what became of Fishface and so forth.

I don't think he will ever get demuted. As the final will be set in a apocalyptic future, he would most likely stay as Mutagen Man.

He's been said to thaw out by Donnie in the future, seeing him demutated at the end of the show would give the endgame status the show is going for.

Well he's kind of a mindless monster and didn't want to be a mutant.
At least the Rockwell Monkey doesn't mind being a mutant.

Timothy's mutation really got to me. All he wanted to do was be like the turtles., and when it actually happened, not only did he not turn into a cool super hero, he realized being a mutant isn't all its cracked up to be. Later, he lost nearly all his humanity and was ultimately frozen by Donney.
It just goes to show, what goes around, comes around. Timothy's desires ended up being his ultimate downfall. I have a lot of sympathy towards him. Maybe we'll find out what happened to him during the last half of this season. I really hope he becomes a good guy.
@ Glitter Wand
Yeah, I feel the same way. Timothy isn't really a popular character and even though he brought it on himself I still feel sorry for him. What about his family?
His parents?
I don't understand, they could have just made a brief mention of Donnie saving him but they didn't even do that.
What I liked the most about Timothy's role was the character development for Donatello. He took him under his wing and tried to help him. That is what made "Mutagen Man Unleashed" still one of my favorite episodes.
Donatello doing everything he could to save Timothy, even calling him his "friend."

I know, and he seemed so heartbroken when he had to freeze Timothy. Even then, he promised to find a cure for him.

It could be implied or mentioned that Donnie did use retromutagen on Timothy.
We know that Super Retromutagen can convert regular mutagen into regular mutagen. But what about retromutagen meeting with mutagen in its purest form...it could be like matter meeting anti-matter.
So the ironic trope of the thing that is supposed to cure him is what kills him in the end.

Hmm...
Donatello, Casey Jones, and Timothy... all with a crush on April?
:teek:
What do you call a love triangle if it involves more than 3 people?
:tlol:
A 19th Century novel? Seriously, you see it in Hunchback of Notre Dame with four men having a crush on Esmeralda and multiple men have a crush on Nastasya Filippovna in the Idiot.
Sort of the same for Mondo Gecko. I'm sure his gecko was on his shoulder at the time so the last thing he touched would be his clothes. They never specified it had to be the hands and they made it clear that you can merge with non-organic matter when you mutate.

I do hope Tim gets a happy ending in the future because I actually liked his character and thought he meant well even if it didn't turn out the way he wanted it to. Plus the whole arc was a big thing for Donnie's development of compassion for someone and I hope they still touch on that.

It's a shame. I was interested to see how it would end but I guess his character wasn't interesting enough. But they could at least have made some kind of mention of him.
I like to think Donnie found a cure and demutated Timothy off-screen sometime during or shortly after season 5. (finale excluded) With Donnie and the turtles helping him going back to his old life and/or become a better person.
(A few years have passed, I can't imagine they just kick him out on the street without helping him)

I wish it was a little more clear in the show, but I was always under the impression he merged with the mutagen. I have an idea how they could have done this better, I'll have to make a storyboard or something sometime.
Anyway, notice how every other mutation happens instantly? "Character comes into contact with foreign dna, then mutagen = Mutation"
I figure the mutagen just sticks to his head and doesn't do anything because it's trying to calculate a problem it doesn't understand. Because of the suit, he's had no physical contact with anything or anyone.
Then, we see a close up of his bare hands hands landing in a puddle of stray mutagen on the floor and the active mutagen covering his body probably thought, "Good enough" and it combines the two subjects together.
Overall... I honestly thought he was a wasted character.
Way back in the season 3 ark, they could have easily had him join the Kraang. Imagine an episode ending with them raiding the lair, they enter Donnie's lab and start looting anything they find valuable or entitled to (Donnie did loot some of their materials), then one of them turns to the camera and points at it, "Take that as well-"
The shot shifts to the frozen Mutagen Man jar, "Kraang may have some use for this specimen." Scene cross fades into the hand drawn image, goes to black - roll credits.
I honestly thought they would upgrade Timothy with a mutagen tank or something to keep him powered on the go and use him as a tool to take on the turtles in favor of supplying him with mutagen. Maybe have a small arc where Timothy embraces his new form, and enjoys using his power to get what he wants and not have anyone tell him what to do. This could end with Donnie having to finally put his foot down and quit blaming himself for the Mutagen Man problem and... I dunno, have it end with Tim stuck in Dimension X... or, stranded on an alien planet... Frozen in space-
Whatever, my point is it's better than just keeping him as a frozen lava lamp in the background for 5 years and pretend like he doesn't exist.

It's kind of funny in the crossover's first episode there's a scene where Donnie is bored and doesn't know what to do, and he kicks back his chair and you see the huge body of Mutagen Man just hanging on the wall, and the camera focuses on it for like 3 seconds.
It's like the writers were purposely putting an inside joke in on how they did nothing with Mutagen Man but let him rot.
Personally I don't think people would have cared as much if Don didn't promise him to demutate him. If he does just...died or something...nobody would have cared.

I noticed that scene/joke as well, that just had to be done on purpose. I couldn't help but think... Uhm, you have something to work on right next to you...
I agree with the last part. They made an entire episode about Donnie taking responsibility for Timothy and a final scene where he called him his friend and promised to save him. It created expectations.
We just have to settle for an off-screen demutation now sometime in the future.

Yeah, like nobody cares that they never demutated Spiderbitez, or Tiger Claw, or Snakeweed, etc....because it doesn't matter. He never said he would so nobody had any expectations for it.
But he specifically promised Timmy and felt bad about it, that's why we felt it should have happened.

LOL, I guess it really doesn't matter if Mutagen Man was ever turned back into a human now knowing what happens in the future. Depending on when that mutagen bomb went off, it might not have been that long after the end of the current timeline of the show.
