Not sure anyone has posted this already but here you go:
http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/take-a-look-at-the-turtle-van-and-new-set-pictures-from-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles
For some of us there is nothing more iconic from our childhood than the Turtle Van from the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES animated series. The toy was a must-have for any kid at the time, and even if you didn't own one personally I'm sure you were friends with someone that did. Well, maybe you weren't friends but you probably tolerated the spoiled punk so you could play with the awesome toy van with your army of turtle action figures. New set pictures from TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES have made their way online, and in a couple we get a good look at the Turtle Van that will appear in the movie. There's also images of Megan Fox as April O'Neil doing a report and Will Arnett as cameraman Vernon Fenwick, but I'm sure most of you are here for the Turtle Van. The van looks a bit more rugged than the one from the cartoon show, but the changes made aren't too drastic in my opinion. And don't worry about the sling on Arnett's arm: it's just for a scene in the film and not because he was injured. Starring Megan Fox, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Alan Ritchson, Danny Woodburn, Will Arnett and Whoopi Goldberg, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES will be in theaters on June 6th, 2014. - See more at: http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/take-a-look-at-the-turtle-van-and-new-set-pictures-from-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles#sthash.xCwVAzKh.dpuf

Yeah. I'm hoping there is some reasoning as to how it can be so "flawless". I'm sure Don hasn't learned how to repurpose and engineer a vehicle as well as learning how to respray\airbrush.
I just think that a vehicle made out of junkyard parts could have looked so much more interesting and original. I guess they wanted something that they could turn into a toy easily...

the truck does resemble the recent nick turtle van which is kinda cool in one sense, but i feel it is excessively silly for a live action movie. it would have been more "ninja like" and provided a nice Mirage nod, to used a VW bus with a supped up hi tech interior. They might as well have made the license plate read TRTLPWR...

Looks good to me. Part of me hopes the axles being extended like that has some sort of function outside of how it looks, but it won't surprise me if that's all it is. Should be interesting to see what all this thing can do. Probably not a whole lot, but there's bound to be one interesting scene involving this thing.
Also wouldn't surprise me if Playmates had a hand in this thing's inclusion. I doubt they had to push too hard for it, as I imagine they weren't the only one's looking to add as many reasons to sell a toy as possible into this movie.

 I know Leo656, in the OT the Turtle Van had the "Turtles" print in front and was a bit much and attention grabbing, but of course that was needed for the merchandising. And the van had a slight militaristic look to it with the weapons on top.
...Yet in this movie version (which is supposedly taking itself much more...seriously...?:-? Right?) has a color scheme (bright yellow and green) and off-roading wheels that throw all that stealth/secrecy out the window. With this eye-catching Turtle Van, and the "over the top" conspicuous trenchcoat disguise with Raph... I think its a valid question to ask if the tone of the movie is serious...at all...?

That Turtle Van is more closer to the Shellraiser from the Nick series due to the large wheels. It was a modified train cart.

Compared to the first Turtle Van, this is more tricked out, and seems more designed from the ground-up to be a Turtle van, but that can also be said about the Battle Shells, and I don't buy into the "this is more conspicuous" argument. The Fred Wolf van has a vintage Mirage Turtles sneer mouth, a spare-tire-holder that says "Turtles," and windows you can see right into. This merely has a turtle-like paint job that looks more standard, and I like that its windows can be blocked. It'd turn heads; sure, but not in a way that would make you think real turtles drove it.
It's not the most creative TMNT vehicle design, but that's the only major complaint I have with it. It looks powerful; its apparent lack of weapons is an issue but the one thing I think we can trust Bay on is that it will be armed, because that's just the sort of action he craves. I can't help but find it underwhelming just because before, it felt as though every new TMNT vehicle felt like it was trying to one-up the last in terms of gimmickery. First there was just a van, so next time there was an armored car, and after that, a moving van, then a garbage truck that could go into hover-mode, and finally a hotrodded subway car. I think I like that last one the best, because the Shellraiser manages to look both badass, as measured by its high abilities, and improvised, as measured by its rust, graffiti, etc. So yes; this new vehicle seems like a step back, but if they're going for an update to the Fred Wolf series, then maybe a van is the best case, and I don't see how this is any greater sacrilege than the Tumbler was.

I agree to an extent. Although, as a Batman and Turtles fan, I didn't have an issue with the Tumbler like I do with the Turtles van. But, then again, I am a Turtles fan that wanted to see a fairly gritty film.
The look is all relative to the tone of the movie. Batman Begins set out to heavily ground itself in a realistic world. From the look of Raph ''undercover'' and the Turtle van, I think we can safely say this film isn't going to be anywhere near as grounded as Nolans Batman trilogy.

I think the Turtle Van looks really cool, and I can see how it resembles a cross between the Shellraiser and the original Turtle Van. As far as the whole idea of stealth or realism goes, I don't see how much different it is from Batman's Tumbler vehicle from the Dark Knight Trilogy. Heroes like the TMNT deserve to have a set of wheels on the big screen. If Ghostbusters get the Ecto-1, Batman gets the Batmobile, Power Rangers get Zords, then I think the turtles should get their van. I wonder how much firepower it's gonna pack in the film?

I wonder how much firepower it's gonna pack in the film?Hopefully, it'll shoot manhole covers. And garbage. And have that gunner seat that pops out the side. And can eject the turtles into the sky! And hopefully the satellite up top means Donnie will have his tracking station with radar and such.

I'd die of happiness if they recreated that one part of the theme song in the film's climax.
Turtles just launching out of the open roof like 25 feet in the air.

I've given this the benefit of the doubt so far, and actually embraced its ridiculousness, but I have nothing but Andrew NDB-esque thoughts about this.
The Turtle Van is always one of the stupidest aspects of any universe it's part of. It works in the Fred Wolf cartoon only because its logic is so brazenly ridiculous to begin with. Having it any version even attempting a serious or real-world approach is asking way, way too much.
But, hey! Check out those monster-truck tires! Extreeeeeeeeeme!

Just to be clear, I love the Tumbler. I don't know if I necessarily love it more than other Batmobiles, but I love that it actually exists as a heavy, yet high-performance machine, I love the background they gave for it, and I like the fun jokes they made about it throughout the film.

It definitely seems to -- unintentionally or not -- take cues from the Nicktoon Shellraiser, which, in turn, was sort of a monster car homage to the Fred Wolf Turtle Van. So either way it goes...
I guess the idea is to not think about things too much in a movie with a pretty glaring toy agenda and just throw reason to the wind. I mean, we're to believe Donnie or Mikey just took some spray paint to it in a garage somewhere, with flawless fenders, or had April drive it to Maaco for the elaborate Maaco-quality custom paintjob?
The bigger question we should be asking, of course, is why the Ninja Turtles (you know, apart from people nostalgic for the old toys from the 80s) would want to draw so much attention to themselves while they're driving around Manhattan, quite literally broadcasting: "Hey! Look at us! We're the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles driving around in our bright yellow van with a turtle shell drawn all over it! Look at us! Did you see us?" Why even have a license plate, if they're doing that? If they must have a vehicle it should be something non-descript, legal, and nothing that would be drawing attention to it.

That's not a statement to be taken literally. Especially since from a design standpoint they mostly pop up in the boroughs and not Manhattan itself.
I seriously doubt the Turtle Van will be used as their 'Go to the store to get some milk' vehicle. Judging from the set footage in Times Square it seems to be a situation where all hell is breaking loose and stealth is the last thing anyone needs.

It's just coooooorny. I get that a lot of people WANT a corny TMNT movie, but a lot of us don't. Some of us feel the first movie was the closest so far to what a TMNT movie could and should be, and were hoping for something more in that vein and improved upon with modern special effects and such. Instead, we're getting more or less the opposite. And some people, of course, felt the first movie wasn't far ENOUGH in the right direction, and of course those people are SUPER mad at everything we've seen so far.
It's like people who really liked the Dark Knight series, and how they'd feel if the very next movie was like "Batman & Robin". The more cheese we see on this new movie, no matter how nostalgic for the old cartoons we may be, the more we shake our heads and say, "Y'know, it'd be nice if TMNT wasn't COMPLETELY a joke."
But it is. And I agree with Andrew (:o) that it CAN have a little (or a lot) more depth. It can be something great for EVERYONE to enjoy, not just children and adults who identify with children.

Its obviously not going to be a totally serious, grown up take on Tmnt or similar to the first movie. You can thank Nick acquiring the franchise for this.
But it could still be half serious with whatever the turtles' conflict is. The current cartoon is a good balance of humor and seriousness.

Spoken like a true casual. I guess it's not like TMNT hasn't been a kids property for over 25 years, right? Don't be an idiot. I'd almost blame Bay, but it's not him either. I'm not who to blame for this movie (I know...it's not out yet...but all the news from it seems bad...and you can't make a delicious omelet with eggs, cheese, and ham that are rancid.)
But it ain't Nick. They've proved they know what they are doing with the IDW book and the Nick show, both are great, fresh takes that are very respectful of the source material and have a nice balance of fun and serious stuff.
EDIT: And got to give props to Rudy Ray Moore. Heck, he was born in this state. :D

My whole argument was that it could still be serious enough to be good. I wasn't blaming or implying anything. I was defending it.
I only said the Nick thing because its true. Its always been for kids but being attached to such a huge childrens network they have extra responsibility to keep it within reason. Its their property...not just a licence with a movie being made on the side.

What exactly is your idea of 'totally serious' that involves something so heinous that Viacom would have to avoid it entirely? A film with sex scenes? Gore? Neither would be a part of any turtles film past or present, regardless of who owns the property. I've seen Raph slam foot skulls into concrete on more than one occasion in the new series. Blood in the comics.

I know the original movie was pretty serious for what it was but I don't think they crossed the line of its audience.

Casey Jones just got stabbed in the gut by Shredder in the IDW books, not long after that Shredder torched a forest full of foxes (presumably Alopex's feral family), among other things. In the toon, we've seen characters get limbs torn off (Snakeweed) and their whole bodies splattered (Cockroach Terminator). Yes, they come back to life, but so had Shredder time & time again in the past. If they want to include death, they can, and will. Nothing that's come before the buyout was terribly hard, short of Bodycount and some other obscure comic moments that went under the radar. Don't let nostalgia blind you to the facts. Viacom is not holding back. They use graphic violence when it enhances the plot. Rightfully so.

^ Snakeweed and Cockroach Terminator are not examples of graphic violence. Theyre exaggerated monsters. No ones gonna see them get hurt and think...wow that was graphic.
Of course theyre gonna have death. Its in other cartoons too but its implied. You think Nick is gonna have something like Leo's swords impale a foot soldier with blood squirting out graphically depicted on screen?
I dont follow the comic so I'll take your word for it but I doubt its as blunty graphic as your making it out. Im sure blood is used but cartoons sometimes have a little.
Basically I dont think the movie will go beyond what the cartoon does but thats not bad.

So getting bombed and torn to pieces isn't graphic violence when it's not a human? Not sure what world you're living in. People won't think that stuff is intense? Uh, yeah, people do think that. Go have a read at episode discussions. Folks have been pretty shocked to see those characters meet gruesome fates, not to mention the controversy surrounding Mutagen Man. How can you say a monsters obliteration is less graphic in a series where almost everything is a monster/mutant/alien? What do you want?
Obviously Nick isn't going to put in gore, I never said that. In fact, that's my God damned point, guy.
Its obviously not going to be a totally serious, grown up take on Tmnt or similar to the first movie. You can thank Nick acquiring the franchise for this.
.
This statement is what's confusing to me. What in the hell does a grown up take (or the first movie) have that Nick won't do? I want to know.
As for Casey's injury, it's not always about how it looks, it's about the act itself. The fact they include it in any way whatsoever says a lot. It's not 'bluntly graphic' by what I imagine your definition is, but senseless gore is tacky and adds nothing to the story so I see there being no point for it. The book is tasteful. If they wanted to put something in there like that, I don't think it would be so hard for the gang to push for it.

^ I already explained what I meant by totally serious and grown up. As for the original movie, it wasn't like the OT at all. It was more emotionally driven. Focusing on the family aspect. I don't think Nick will go this way. I think their conflict could still be serious like they are in the cartoon but I think the new movie will have a mix of humor, action and story. Again like the cartoon.
Mutagen Man is a pretty graphic scenario. I'll give you that. He was an innocent guy who wanted to help. The others though, youre really glorifying it. Monsters get cut, beat and crushed in cartoons all the time. Its not in the same sense as humans.
Its cool and all but you're making it out to be amazing that such things would happen to a monster.

Geez guys, lay off. I totally see his point. Something does NOT have to be completely graphic to be serious and "grown up". What he means is that the movie may have those elements and STILL be intended for an older and more mature audience than what the Nick toon is. And IDW's series IS arguably darker and more mature, from what I've seen, but still has plenty of humor and is certainly less graphic than what you guys seem to believe. I've seen little in the way of REAL gore/hard-core violence, (mind you, I'm only up to Secret History of the Foot Clan arc pending the newer issues being released as TPB's, but....) and although there is plenty of violence and dark themes, it's not as serious as something like, I dunno, Y: The Last Man (which while not especially violent as such, had LOTS of very mature themes and some pretty twisted stuff story-wise that was NEVER intended for kids...)
Powder

I never made the IDW book out to be some sort of bloodfest, I merely stated that it has some pretty tough stuff that a company looking to censor the turtles probably wouldn't include.

Spoken like a true casual. I guess it's not like TMNT hasn't been a kids property for over 25 years, right? Don't be an idiot. Nick has given us both a comic & TV series, neither of which sugar coat stuff. They're both full of violence and heavy themes. So I have to assume you've not taken part in either of those things.
Don't want to sound condescending, Powder, but Nick is ultimately a kids franchise. The new children's cartoon is exactly that; a children's cartoon. I won't say the new cartoon is bad, but it's violence that's suited for kids. Not violence for an older, mature audience. It's sugar coated for kids. When an older crowd looks at the cartoon, they'll know it's far from violent. It's children's "violence and heavy themes." The IDW is more of the actual violent/heavy stuff. Still wish Nick didn't have control:tsad:

Again, I'm going to ask you the same thing I asked Wildcat, and maybe you can give me an answer. What do you want? What do you expect? Do you think ANYONE making a turtles cartoon would include violence for an older, mature audience? If you do, you're out of your God damned mind because yes, it IS a kids franchise. My point this whole time has been that despite that, they're not pulling punches. While the violence isn't extreme, it is a bit harder than that of your average kids show. If the series was on CN or some other channel it would be exactly the same. You think if Nick gave up the property suddenly heads would fly on screen? People would be gutted? 4kids wasn't any more violent than this series has been thus far.
I agree with this completely, BUT I don't think Nick would dumb down the live action movies to this extent. (Although there's an OT-ish Turtle van...)
What gives you any idea that it's dumbed down? Dumb & goofy are two different things. You've not seen ANY fight scenes, you have no idea what the film is rated, so you can't say in any fairness that it's soft right now.

I figure today's big superhero movie franchises are probably the best gauge as to how the violence in this movie will turn out. They all have children's cartoons that run alongside PG-13 movies. In those movies, people bleed, get shot, get stabbed, get their necks snapped. And (most) parents aren't complaining that their children's heroes are being tainted by those PG-13 movies. If Batman can remain a children's TV franchise after the Dark Knight movie series, so can TMNT.
PG-13 is the winning rating, these days, as far as the box office is concerned. I think that's more significant than what the 90's movies were rated. On top of that, Will Arnett has said that parents can bring kids, but some of the action is intense. There aren't PG movies with "intense" action (not since PG-13 was invented). And there aren't PG summer action movies, either. You just can't make back your money. The market's too small. No one who wants to see an action movie will trust a PG film to satisfy.

Uh what I WANT is a live action 2k3 with some OT nods like the van, but I DON'T EXPECT this. I know thats not what it is. I don't know what this has to do with the discussion. It was about the new movie's terms of violence.
Ok, one last time...I think the new movie will have a mix of humor, seriousness and action. I DON'T think it'll be anymore graphic/dramatic than what the cartoon gives us because I think Nick wants their own tone but like I said this is not bad. The current cartoon is great.

In fact wasn't it said at the fact that Mirage had secured a movie deal intrinsic to Viacom wanting the TMNT property?
Hardly seems like it would have been dead.

The movie deal happened in 2009 right before the Viacom sale in November of that year.
Even if the movie was made, we probably wouldn't have any comics or cartoons like we do now. It would have just been one of those dead properties that got a movie....like you see with The Smurfs movie or Judge Dredd or Superman...lol

hi guys. I've been browsing these forums for awhile and after reading through this thread i thought I'd comment. first i would like to say that I agree that if the movie does turn out overly cheesy and corny i don't think you can blame that on nickelodeon being at the helm of the franchise. so far the new cartoon and comic have proven that the creative minds behind both have great respect for the source material while working to build their own respective universes. if the cartoon seems kiddy sometimes that's because that's what its meant to be. an animated series made to introduce kids to the tmnt the same way the ot did for our generation. for that reason of course there are limits to how violent the action gets but there's no arguing its closer to the original comic then what we grew up with.
now back to the topic at hand I don't think that a turtle van being in the movie is in itself is cartoony concept. imo the idea of the turtles having a vehicle to get around in isn't exactly unrealistic. are we supposed to assume that they just parkour their way all around new york. as long as they don't go driving the thing in the daylight with their logo on it I'm good. probably could have gave it a better paint job but i don't think its anymore eye-catching than a real life battle shell or shell-raiser would be

Am I the only one thinks this van wouldnt get much more then a passing glance in real life?
People have always pimped out what they drive. ANd a jacked up van isnt really so out of the norm that people would be flipping out snapping pics and crap and saying omg its got a turtles paint job so there must be turtles driving it.
I mean I cant be the only one who comes from a town where they jack everything up can I? I got a buddy that drives around a pink 86 camaro with alomost six feet of lift sitting on a custom frame. A teacher of mine drove a van just like this one all jacked up with a custom 4x4 drive installed. People do this kind of stuff all the time.

Well, that van isn't really the most incognito/stealthy mode of transportation for a group of Ninjas.
Why not just have a regular looking van? Or even a busted-up, beat-up van to tool around? Or at least be less obvious in its'...turtleness? (I know, not a word at all).
lol someone mentioned this, but for some reason I just think of that guy in Adventures of Babysitting stealing this ride to take to the 'chop-shop'. Maybe if that happened, the Turtles would follow and get to meet 'Thor', lol.
As for what other topics mentioned in this thread, one problem (just for me, personally) with Nick owning this...well...I think it'd be nice to one day see perhaps Direct to DVD animated movies. Much like the DC stuff like The Dark Knight Returns part 1 & 2, Batman: Under the Red Hood, and this new one I saw called Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. Or even what Marvel's "Hulk VS..." or "Planet Hulk."
They are (mostly) PG-13 and get away with a LOT of stuff. And perhaps you could balance it out with the cartoon on Nick, have this live action film go either way (either more for kids/goofy or so on), and at the same time release Direct to DVD/Animated films which are more for the older audiences. But I don't see Nick ever doing that sort of thing. But, perhaps with another, you'd have at least a 'slim' of a chance. But that's just my two cents.

I dont know if that will be true. The people directing and producing it will want some nice action in it. I think there will be a lot more action than the Nick show, something along the lines of Ironman/Batman. I think the movie will be darker than the cartoon is, which is a good thing.
