Well, we're finally getting closer to the finale!

8QZfwimpzuc

Okay, so after a long LONG Looooong hiatus, we're finally jumping back into the storyline. This time, we're tracking down April's Dad, Kirby.

You know, the more I look at him, the more suspicious I get of the situation with him and April. Many folks think that April is some sort of hybrid born from something from Dimension X. I think it's the other way around...

I'm thinking that Mr Scientist here is a rogue Kraang that got involved with a human, and April is some sort of strange result of it. Or some sort of test tube baby experiment of his. Human technology is too low brow compared to what the Kraang have... why would they bother with a 'primitive' human scientist?

'Cuz he's not human.

Whatever the situation is, Donnie amazingly manages to track him down in the depths of tentacle hell. Pretty easy walk through...

((I'd put the guy from Star Wars here hollering 'It's a Trap!", but I think I got beaten to it already... :P ))

Not only does Donnie get to be a hero in this situation, but we're also going to get our first look at a Native X-er emerge from the prison cells to wreak havoc.

Neutralizer is interesting... an amphibious mercenary with a taste for intergalactic calamari. Hopefully he's not the poisonous type - or one of the species that have slimy LSD ooze or something seeping from his skin. This show's Mike looks dumb enough to be dared into licking him or something... :shifty:

So we'll see what happens!

WILL DONATELLO SAVE DR. KIRBY FROM THE KRAANG?!
IS THE NEUTRALIZER ANOTHER ONE EPISODE VISITOR?!
WILL KIRBY BE REVEALED TO BE MORE THAN WHAT HE SEEMS?!
AND WILL WE SEE WHAT THE HECK IS SHREDDER UP TO DURING ALL THIS?!

Stay Tuned!!

That was AWESOME!!!!!!!! :tgrin::tgrin::tgrin:

Man, what an episode!!! so worth the wait!!! Newtralizer ROCKS!!! It looks like for now he will be a threat to our turtle friends. He was an awesome fighter though! :tgrin:

He's an alien experiment huh? Maybe he and LH were mutated around the same time... I can't wait to hear his story. Danny Trejo voices him, so he'll get to talk eventually!

Kirby is a droid... or some other type of imposter... This is going to be good!!!

But oh man... I think what really has me excited is...
THEY BLOW UP TRAAG IN THE FINALE!!!!!!!! :tgrin::tgrin::tgrin::tgrin::tgrin:

Yay I loved that ep! Donnie was so cute! Mikey: the heart is tender. Squiiiiiiish. April is definitely a Kraang after watching this. And what's up with Kirby? Turned evil or a robot?

Amazing episode!
I loved the whole thing. Newtrailzer is awesome, Kirby might be a Kraang in disguise, April has powers or something, AND IM SO EXCITED FOR THE FINALE!!!!!!!!!

Also, Donnie got a hug :tgrin:

To me, it seemed like kirby isnt a robot, or brainwashed, it seemed like he is just in on the kraangs plan, like he was meant to be rescued, so he could lead them to the turtles.

Or Kirby turns out to be a kraang, hence why Mikey's fighting him in the season finale trailer, just so the "rescue Kirby" stuff can go on in season 2.
What do you think?

Its really good to see another new episode again! I think Raph and Don have a very realistic brotherly relationship.

Its probably why they were shown at the beginning practicing with each other, and then again at the end where Raph is trying to talk good about Don in front of April... I love moments like these :tgrin::tlol:

Newtralizer was really cool! I like how he didn't waste any time :twink:

Absolutely... It's very likely.

This was one of the best epiodes so far in this series hands down.
The fighting was great, April meditating with Splinter, Newtralizer (Can't wait to hear him speak!), Kirby was rescused (or so we think!), Shredder & the Kraang now working together!, April being able to find the Kraang device (which looks like the Turnstone from the Archie series and I still think she is some sort of robot), I seriously thought April was going to find the Ratking after we saw that rat in the sewer.
Oh and I liked Mikey's bad driving and the Kraang calling the other an idiot.
The only thing I thought we'd see that we didn't was Tim in Don's lab.

That's what I'm thinking... They said at the end the real Kirby had not been rescued... implying that the one they brought home was a fake.

Mikey just slew me with his line about the heart. The feels, man; the feels!

Raph's attempt to make nice killed me too. Maybe he's the one we should be worried about having been replaced by a Kraangdroid. Seriously, though, it's good to finally see that he has a conscience in regards to his brothers.

Whoa. What an episode! I loved the whole thing. Donnie going solo to rescue Kirby, the Turtles fighting Newtralizer, and even April and Splinter training. Yeah, I'm guessing April is probably part Kraang herself and definitely not human. Too bad this Kirby is an imposter though. Really liked some of Mikey's lines in this one as well as Raph trying to make it up to Donnie.

Fave quotes:

Leo: Why would Donnie try and rescue April's dad on his own?
Raph: Because I told him he doesn't have a shot with April.
Leo: Why would you tell him that?
Raph: Because he doesn't have a shot with April.
Leo: Well, yeah, but you don't tell him that.
Mikey: The heart is a soft muscle, man. Squish.

Kraang: Kraang is that which is known as idiotic.

Leo and Raph: Mikey!
Mikey: Don't worry, I wore my seatbelt.

Leo: Either Donnie was here, or the owner tried to pick his own lock.
Mikey: To break into his own shop? Come on, Leo. Think on this for a second. Let's move.
Leo: *glares at Mikey*
Mikey: Oh, you already knew that. You say it.
Leo: Let's move.

Mikey: You named something without me?

Overall, an awesome episode. Definitely can't wait for the season finale on August eighth.

Well, the more I think about it, the more I suspect she's some sort of Kraang/human hybrid judging by the fact that she could hear the Kraang communication device. It makes sense in a way as to why the Kraang want her.

BubblyShell22

Because she's the key to the mutagen, maybe? I don't know. It's just a guess. She's either part Kraang, or she's a Neutrino.

Well I know saying this will seem a bit "out there" but maybe the Neutrinos are a synthetic slave race created by the Kraang. And maybe April having part Neutrino in her is proof that are neutrinos hiding somewhere on planet earth.

Great episode

Wish the Neutralizer talked but we have to wait till next time.

Kirby is not the real Kirby or he is brainwashed.

Though I hope April is not an Android or a Krang.

I like the theory that the Neutralizer attacked them because of Kirby being a fake/krang side.

Loved that Raph was actually trying to make it up to Donnie at the end of the episode.

Mikey being mad at Donnie for naming something was funny.

I liked those lines about the heart and sadorable.

A half alien half human hybrid.
A Mutant that looks human.
A Human with special powers.

I hope April is not...
An Android/artificial being.
A Krang that was mutated into a human.
Part Krang.
A Drawing.

This was a really great Donnie episode, and one of the best overall episodes in a while! Raph was really mean to Donnie in the beginning, and I loved how Leo and Mikey understand that Donnie doesn't have a chance with April, but don't say anything about it to him like Raph did. I felt really bad for Donnie at the beginning because of what Raph said, but I think it was really cute what Raph did for him in the end :D Why did Donnie get so worked up over a hug? He's hugged April a few times in the series before this and never fainted  Anyway, let's get to my thoughts about the main plot:

Newtrailzer: I don't understand what the hype about him is. He just looks like another freak of the week to me, and the fact that he can't even talk and is just a mindless beast doesn't help matters either. Although him eating the Kraang was very cool, I'm surprised they got away with that. I would like to see why the Newt was attacking the turtles and Kirby though...the fact that he was just trying to kill everyone in sight, including the Kraang, just makes me see him more as a mindless beast.

April: April hearing that noise to the Kraang device was very weird...I assume they'll use that device in the finale somehow. I liked how Splinter was surprised that she could hear something he couldn't, and she said it might be why the Kraang are after her. I'm very curious about April...I like that she's unique and has mysterious powers, but I don't want her to be like a full on alien, you know? As long as she's PART human, which I think she is, then it will be fine with me. I'm happy she's back with her father, which is my next topic...

Kirby: Kirby is obviously not Kirby...if that makes any sense. I knew from the start with his weird way of speaking and calm nature when Donnie saved him that something was up. And that look of hatred after he hugged his daughter...very weird. MY guess is that it's either a brain washed Kirby or a robot in disguise (no transformer reference intended)...it's obviously not the real Kirby for the Kraang to WANT the turtles to save him..after all they said it was going just as planned after Donnie got him out of the cell.

Shredder: I'm very excited that Shredder and the foot are now working directly with the Kraang...but my only question is where the heck is Karai, Dogpound and Fishface? We haven't heard from them in a while and it's weird to see Shredder and the Foot without their top soldiers with them.

Mikey moments: I was happy to see Mikey pick up the Kraang to scan it's eyes (I thought he would finally do something productive) but no, of course not :ohwell: Atleast we saw him do some damage with those parked cars! And no, don't say he meant to do that

All in all this was a great episode, and I will be watching it again for sure. Now to just wait for the finale, which I can't wait for! BOOYAKASHA!

Because for the first time, it had meaning.

In Donnie's mind, he felt he had finally done something right for April. It was about keeping a promise that he made and an acknowledgement that she remembered.

Of course, since it's all a trap. The aftermath of this is going to be extreme.

Back to the topic of Kirby - I do wonder why Donatello didn't question how Kirby sent the coded message to begin with. If he was locked in that cell, what did he use to not only record his voice, but scramble the audio?

Besides that and how he got up and left with confidence and apparently no preparation. I mean, he'd know there were Kraang guards, so he'd probably be extra cautious and likely scared getting out. He showed no sign of worry until he realized the Newtralizer was released.

Well, the show made it obvious that there's something wrong with Kirby. I just question why Donatello didn't think of these things. He noticed Kirby was weird at first, but then seemed to let it slide.

Since we know there's something wrong with Kirby and that he's all part of the trap the Kraang are setting up, I'm just assuming that he may have sent the message through the Kraang's computer sometime right before he played being detained.

But you raise very raise a very good observation here, why didn't Donnie notice that Kirby had no access to any communication technology, and why did Donnie let Kirby's oddness slide?

Donnie didn't notice/think about it because he was too into helping April and wasn't thinking of anything else then that really.

I believe Donnie was just so desperate to finally fulfill his promise to April, that he doesn't question how Kirby was able to send a coded message. I certainly hope that it's just brainwashing and not a Kraang droid.

As for my thoughts on the episode. It wasn't what I initially expected, I had hoped maybe Donnie would have snapped and laid the smack down on Raph for the whole Donatello the puppet. But I like how they had Raph giving Donnie a heavy dose of reality by telling him that he doesn't have a chance with April.

I also liked how Leo's was concerned as where Donnie was. Though he should have checked the lab first and maybe the dorms before asking Raph and Mikey about where Donnie could have gone.

I also thought Leo and Mikey defending Donnie's feelings to Raph was also a nice touch. Yeah they also didn't think Donnie and April would ever be a couple, but they don't say anything because they know how sensitive their brother can be.

As Mikey says: The heart is a soft muscle...squish.

Also whenever Raph was trying to act impulsively Leo would stop him and calmly say "What would Donnie have done?" And Raph making everything up to Donnie with him saying that he was the real hero was just sweet to watch.

I am so looking forward to the season finally to see the how the everything plays out.

Yeah, I'm curious to find out what the deal with April is.
Shes developed some sort of special hearing, She can hear things that the others do not, And it attracted her to some strange sphere like object.

Yeah, like she's sensing the object's vibrations. That makes sense. But if Splinter is like her, why is it that he couldn't hear the sound and only April could?

Okay, back. This episode did everything The Gauntlet did right by managing to have the perfect mix of suspense, comedy, action, and plot advancement. So much for 24-odd minutes.

Bullet time:

I usually groan at mute mutants-of-the-week, but somehow the Newtralizer just worked. In a lot of ways he was introduced just like Traag was, but the Newtralizer was a lot more memorable. Maybe it was all of the weapons?
Newtralizer.actually.ate.Kraang. Wow.
My theory on Kirby: he's been brainwashed. Keep in mind that he's a psychologist, not a scientist-scientist when forming your theories :)
Donnie and Mikey have come really far since the Mouser episode. There really isn't much difference between the A and B teams now.
Why did April just wander off alone? Ugh, I get it she's supposed to be spunky and independent, but that was just stupid.
I love how the Kraang but on their fancy suits to meet Shredder.
Good guy Raph is awesome.

I'm so ready for the finale! Oh, and sorry for double posting.

According to this S2 description released during SDCC they will remain united to defeat the Turtles.

Season Two Description:
Season two starts off with a bang when the Turtles accidentally drop a Kraang shipment of mutagen canisters all over NYC. It becomes one of their ongoing goals throughout the season to recover the canisters before more mutants can be created. At the same time, the Kraang and Shredder have united to put an end to the Turtles once and for all – which results in some very scary characters coming after the Turtles. Luckily, the Turtles get some help when the meet teenage hockey player and voluntary vigilante, Casey Jones. With Casey’s help, the Turtles work to fight the bad guys all the while trying to unravel the mystery regarding April O’Neil and her importance to the Kraang.

The biggest reveal was a sneak peek at Casey Jones, a rebellious teenager about to be kicked off the hockey team. When he discovers his city is being infiltrated by mutants and aliens, he does what any normal teenager would do – outfits himself with a mask, homemade weapons and takes to the streets as a vigilante.

I'm disappointed Newtralizer is yet another mutant or alien or whatever that doesn't speak. They're really not as interesting if they don't have any personality. Can Newtralizer even speak? He just seemed to roar.

Its really strange that Nick isn't having their mutants as characters like Dogpound/Fishface and Spiderbitez.

I've noticed that so many episodes of this show follow the same formula of discovering some Kraang hideout, fighting a new mutant, and then leaving with only the slightest plot advancement.

They've been doing this for a while now. I really hope the formula changes in Season 2.

I was really surprised at how much I liked this episode! Generally I don't care for the Donnie-centric ones, but this one was quite good. I liked pretty much all the different storylines/point of views, though I'll agree that April running off by herself was really stupid.

Maybe it's because I'm a jerk deep down... but I kind of loved Raph's little chat with Donnie at the beginning. I liked that for a split second it seemed like Raph was actually going to show some sympathy only for him to switch right back to blunt mode ("It's 'sadorable'."). It really fit his character. I also loved him realizing he was the reason Donnie left and then trying to make it up to him. Donnie may have been pretty great in this episode, but I thought Raph had a lot of standout moments, too.

But seriously, none of the characters were at all suspicious of the whole thing with Kirby? It had "this is so a set up" written all over it. Guess they just got overly excited.

And, again, maybe it's that I'm a horrible person deep down, but I thought it was awesome seeing the Newtrailizer eat the Kraang, lol. Didn't see that one coming!

Anyway, most everything has already been covered by others, so I'll leave it at that (though Mikey's "squish" was amazing).

I really enjoyed this episode thanks to the subtle action on Donatello trying to find the Kraang and using the Neutralizer to take advantage of them, and then finally rescuing Kirby to complete an objective that took the entire season to accomplish. Its both rewarding and menacing at the same time when Shredder at the end tells the Kraang leader about their ultimate attack approaching. Michelangelo had some really cool lines, especially involving the coupe in the warehouse when he knocked out the baddies. Good fourth wall joke about Donnie saying about making a Raphael impression. Excited for the finale.

Overall: 8.5/10

DonatelloNinja82

I got the impression she eluded him. I don't think he'd let her run off on her own.

That's what I thought, too. He seemed confused when he couldn't find her.

Well, the more I think about it, the more I suspect she's some sort of Kraang/human hybrid judging by the fact that she could hear the Kraang communication device. It makes sense in a way as to why the Kraang want her.

There are lots of good theories. I've been leaning toward this one too.

On a different note, when we're going see Mikey showcasing his writing skills? After hearing his buckaroo detective dream, I kind of want to see it now!:P

I was just ruminating about that last night but figured if I posted about it I'd get told I have no life. My excuse is that I was incredibly bored at the time.

Can't see her sleeping in the same area as the turtles - even though she presumably couldn't get pregnant anyway, Splinter seems like the type to think teenage boys and teenage girls should probably sleep separately.

She might possibly sleep somewhere in Splinter's area so he can keep an eye on the goods himself - he's beyond reproach, and can definitely control himself. But I don't think he'd be so worried about it (the turtles are good kids) that he'd give up his quiet and privacy.

So yeah, I think she has her own area somewhere, although I can't figure out where. Hopefully she's not just crashing on that old subway station seating - looks uncomfortable.

*cough cough* Ok, enough weirdness for one thread. About the ep: it was ok. Fairly enjoyed it. Though to be honest I liked parasitica a lot more, and that was supposed to be a filler. My nitpick would be that you'd think they'd be more concerned about tracking devices and whatnots with all the people that want to destroy/capture them.

Finally, the wtf moment of the ep was brought to you by splinter, who apparently can't be bothered to go out looking for april when she vanishes from the lair, or has no objections as to her bringing a weird kraang device back to their home.

Ok, now to wait 2 weeks for the finale! :D

When did Shedder become allies with the Krang?:teek: Gotta rewatch old episode cuz I missed that.

There's one episode where the captive Kraang says something to Shredder like "the ones who are known as the turtles are the ones who must be destroyed" or some sh!t like that, and Shredder says, "It would seem we have a similar interest."

Why has it occurred to no one yet that Kirby is in fact some sort of form of artificial intelligence, and that maybe April is too? They could have created April and made her completely unaware that she's not a human-being. They could have created Kirby and April to get into places where they couldn't go because of the fact that it's so obvious that there's something off about them (the Kraang, even in disguise) not realizing that because they'd have minds of their own, that they might choose to go against the Kraang's agenda.

If April's a robot and not a human girl, that MIGHT make the whole Donatello/April romance possible because parents wouldn't see it as being so detrimental. After all... Donatello does machines. :tlol:

After first watching it, the thought of Raph farting never occurred to me, I just thought Don was out of breath. But after re-watching it and reading Raphaeline's comment, it seems likely it was a fart.

Nothing against that kind of humor, but I think I'll "delude" myself as well by sticking with the out of breath part. :)

Anyway, very good episode. Donatello got his moments to shine, and there was a good side-plot with the other turtles. Well written, some fun moments and interesting developments. Definitely one of the better episodes of this season.

Solid, enjoyable and at the very least worth another re-watch. Also loved the comments of the other turtles about Donatello's feelings for April. I don't think I ever heard their view/opinions on it before.

In fact I didn't even think about the fart BEFORE seeing the poll of that thread, where the "Raph fart" was an option.

Then I rewatched that part and yes, it "could" be that, but I prefer thinking that it's the sound of Donnie being out of breath...

I'm dissapointed by the Newtralizer, he seems like a stupid villain shooting at everyone. I guess that he doesn't speak because he doesn't know english (the Krangs speak english very badly after all) and maybe later he will have some device to translate his voice or something.

Maybe Kirby did experiments on April when she was a kid? and so now she has special powers (I hope she is not a robot or something... I don't think she is, it would ruin the romance with Casey).

Maybe Kirby is THE FUGITOID !!!! :D

But yeah he has a tracking bot on his neck... is he aware of that? why the nasty look at the end? they talk about him as a "human" so I don't think he's a robot... so yes, maybe he's brainwashed...

And Raph was awesome in that episode, I loved how he said things harshly and honestly to Donnie in the beginning, then tried to help him at the end. That's cute :tlove:

Electric

Theory on kirby:

Brainwashed-my opinion, the most likely one, and kind of explains the mean look at the end, and afterall, in parasitica, the kraang were working with brainwashing

Working with them-dont know how to explain it, but he could just be in on it, let himself be recovered to lead them to the turtles? Thats why he acted so normal other than the mean look, maybe thinking he can protect april by giving them the turtles?

Robot- hope and doubt its this one, since after all the kraang called him "the human" in this episode, and since kraang cant even get their own english right, i doubt they could make a perfect kirby

Actually evil all along- again, not sure how to explain, maybe if april isnt human, he was given her to raise when she was younger, and...preparing her? for the invasion?

I dont know if i missed any, but these seem to be the 4 most popular.

I'm surprised by the amount of people that missed the tracker/mind controller on Kirby's neck. I personally think that it is a mind controlling device of some sort because, if you are going to plant a tracker on someone, would you really put it in plain sight? It wouldn't make any sense. However, it'd make sense to put a mind controlling thingy at the base of the neck, since from there you have direct access to the hosts nervous system. Besides, in the trailer for the finale, Kirby attacks mikey, so that further proves that he is either being mind controlled, or has been brainwashed. About him being the fugitoid, it'd be awesome, but I don't think it's likely.

I'm so out of the loop, but that would be AMAZING if that's who Kirby really is. I'm so not digging this whole Kirby and April aren't human scenario, but I would definitely make an exception for Kirby turning out to be the fugitoid. And I don't think the idea is really all that far-fetched, though I still hope it doesn't really effect what April is too much. Keeping my fingers crossed she says a regular human after all of this somehow.

I like to think that we ALL have the keys to the universe inside ourselves..hidden deep in our conscience and april may just be of a newer breed of humans who are more likely to tap into that knowledge and these interdimensional beings (the kraang) are aware of that and want to examine her at all costs...maybe to see how far us humans down here on earth have come so far?

Yeah I preferred Parasitica as well.

But I do think that maybe if these two episodes had maybe 5-10 more minutes, so much could've been done.

For a lot of episodes, 20 minutes is ample time, and I have no doubt that unless it's a start/finisher to the season, 40 minutes+ is way too long to maintain a child's interest. But there needs to be a bit of leniancy as well for mid season eps because sometimes the animators/writers are getting cut off? They're not being able to explore stuff as thoroughly as I think they and the audience would like because of constraints on running time.

But they do extremely well with what they have.

I mean I'm gonna use sadorable to death.

And "What would Donnie do?" as Mikey glances at the droid, snaps his fingers "Got it!" and then they use it as a battering ram. Literal tears were shed.

I'm thinking more and more that Kirby is possibly being controlled by the Kraang since they intended for Don to rescue him like that. I just don't get why Don wouldn't be a little bit suspicious, especially as he had so much trouble hacking into a Kraang system in "The Gauntlet" yet he was able to hack into one in this episode. So many things I love that people have said already. :)

I'll just give my thoughts on the Kirby situation. I doubt he's a robot since he has that moment with Donnie where they chimed together about using tape voice backtracking or something. Robots dont have that kind of logic way of thinking, they just do the task and be done with it.

And when he hugged Donnie and went out carelessly... That is very odd. Like he had no fear at all. Was it because he trusted Donnie got everything under control (Nah.) or because it's all part of his (and Kraang's) plan?

Finally when he found and hugged April, his eyes gleamed dangerously. I was expecting a red light glare if it's a robot, but nothing like that happened. Did he have an agreement with Kraang to use his daughter for the planetary mutation? Or maybe mind control? Seems plausible.

yeah i doubt hes a robot, since both the kraangdroids and ms cambell had limited speech abilities, and kirby seemed to talk fine. The kraang also refer to him as "the human" when donnies breaking him out.

So i think hes either brainwashed/being controlled or hes been working with them all along

Oh I thought that the name "Kraang Prime" was for the planet of the Kraang. Ok so if it's their leader I'm glad then!

(was the creature in the 87 series named Kraang or "Krang"? because in French it was just "Krang" so I'm not used to the double A)

Yep, the original in the OT (87 series) was just "Krang". I think there were copyright issues or something, so they changed it to Kraang for this series? Something like that. And also I think they wanted to differentiate between the two since in this new series "The Kraang" refers to an entire alien race, and not just an individual creature known as "Krang".

Copyright issues would make sense for the different spelling for Krang.

I hope he is being mind controlled and a not a clone/copy or has been working for them.

But they (Shredder, Krang) talk about Kirby as "the human" so he's not a robot.

For the record, I never said I didn't like the guy. He is pretty insistent with some things related to OT, yes, but I don't really have a problem with that. I also agree with a lot of his comments, and he is eloquent in his opinions. And while it's true that it sucks that Ciro left because of him, as you so aptly said, this is the internet. It'd be nice though if someone at nick also realized this, and showed up around here every once in a while to talk to us about the stuff they are working on. I liked the characterizations but basically the episode was sh*t. A lot of episodes I've seen that people have called "filler" I have defended for one reason or another, but this one literally served no purpose other than that last tidbit with April's dad possibly looking evil.

"Newtralizer" was a one dimensional character with no motivation provided and added nothing to the episode. Were there no "Donatello wuvs April" subplot the plot would literally be nonexistant beyond springing Mr. O'Neil (which they are finally worried about). The strongest moment for me was when Raphael stood up for Don at the end in front of April... that was a nice character moment.

BubblyShell22

Well, to be fair, I'm sure we'll learn more about Newtralizer in season 2 as he's being voiced by Danny Trejo. It was stated in the ep that Newtralizer is an experiment of the Kraang, so it'll be interesting to see how they found him and mutated him.

As for the plot, I thought it was pretty good and a good way to showcase Don going solo, even if his motivation was to impress April. I really feel that Don has a good heart and wanted to rescue Kirby also because he knows April misses her dad.

But now that Kirby may be under some mind control, it's going to get interesting in the finale.

Have to disagree with you Andrew, the episode actually move the plot along and set up for the finale, with April recovering that orb and the turtles recovering Kirby, who definitely has something up with him. And don't be so quick to judge newtralizer, he's only been in one episode, and he will be in more. You can't just call him one dimensional based on his intro episode, I'm sure there is more to him to come

You know, despite Raph's cynical remark, I really didn't think Donnie was trying to impress April at that point at all. I thought he was really just trying to ease her pain. I'm not much of a shipper, but I really had some feels when he said "No!" and shoved Dr. O'Neill out of the way of whatever bad thing was going on at the moment.

Well, yeah, that, too. I think at first it was about impressing April until he realized that he just wanted her to be reunited with her dad. So, you're definitely right on that point. But Raph did make up for it in the end.

I absolutely can, and am. He was absolutely one dimensional in this episode. I don't know/don't care what may or may not be coming up on the horizon in subsequent episodes... the episode I watched, he was a pointless character that might as well have been a robot or any kind of generic monster or mutant.

Also kind of eye-rollable how the trope continues at the end of each episode where when a mutant apparently "dies," there needs to be a quick scene at/near the end where they go, "Look! See?! He's alive, he's all right!" And on that, just how the hell are we to believe that Newtralizer survived getting a car dropped on his head/face? He isn't wearing that much armor and it's not like newts are known for having durable skin (and I'm pretty sure any Ninja Turtle couldn't survive having a car dropped on their head).

Or how he got to back of the van when he was actually squashed by the front of it.

I think this ep suffered from trying fit an excessive amount of narrative into a 20 minute show. I remember that this was actually praised in the IGN review, but I honestly think that it was detrimental since a lot of things didn't get the exposition they needed.

Maybe if the whole 'April finding a weird metal ball' part of the story had been shown in parasitica (in other context of course), the main plot of the ep would have standed up more. Overall it was a good ep, but forgettable at that. I mean, if we ignore the fact that Parasitica didn't have any sort of relevant plot points connected to the main narrative of the show, it was a much better ep than this one IMHO.

Parasitica was an excellent standalone episode, and pretty creepy. This episode is just treading water while only throwing a tiny breadcrumb toward the overall narrative.

I guess you thought Darth Vader was a stupid, pointless, one dimensional character that had no meaning after watching the Star Wars IV, and thus didn't watch another Star Wars after that. Right?

Seriously, the "I saw this character for 10 minutes, so he's a one dimensional, pointless character" is one of the dumbest things I ever hear.

Eh, I have to disagree. I think Newtralizer has a lot of potential, but I rather enjoyed his intro episode. The fact that he's on neither side is a first, for one. He clearly saw the turtles fighting the kraang and didn't care - he just tried to waste everybody. I'm really digging his punisher-esque design too.

Oh yeah, and the dude eats kraangs whole and has their severed tentacles on his belt as trophies (or snacks, as someone else suggested). Come on, you gotta admit that's pretty cool. He's a bounty hunter, so his so his allegiance will shift to whoever he's working for, I guess. I like to see more characters in that grey area. It's gets us away from the hardcore good vs. evil crap a lot of toons fall into - now that ****'s one dimensional.

On that note, I do agree that the episode end "look he's alive" cliche is a little tired. That might have something to do with Nick standards, I'm not sure (apparently killing kraang is okay though...)

Andrew NDB
08-01-2013, 04:21 PM
The fundamental difference of opinion here is that everyone seems to be coloring their views on Newtralizer on his potential, and how he may or may not be a pretty compelling character 5 episodes from now, or 20. I'm just saying his introductory episode painted him as entirely one dimensional -- I'm not hedging my bets on what I think he will be later on because those episodes don't exist yet.

I guess you thought Darth Vader was a stupid, pointless, one dimensional character that had no meaning after watching the Star Wars IV, and thus didn't watch another Star Wars after that. Right?

That's a pretty nonsensical statement. Vader is one of the most iconic screen villains there's ever been, even without Episodes V and VI. Cold, calculating, yet also in the pocket of guys like Grand Moff Tarkin... and we're given just enough about him (he killed Luke's father somehow, at some point in the past) that our imagination can run wild.

Newtralizer... um... he just attacks everything and everybody for no reason. And has some blasters that he wanted to get back. He doesn't even appear to be sentient.

I think Spiderbitez was the only one outside of Dog/Fishface that spoke right away in the same episode.

Depends. If they mutated right away from being an animal, then how would they know or be able to speak English right off the bat? If they mutated from a human, then yeah... they should probably be able to speak (though them having to take some time to figure out their new mutated vocal chords would make some sense).

I get your point but I think you are being a bit too rough on the character. The introduction of the Newtralizer wasn't the main focus of the ep and that's why he got relegated to a secondary role. Besides, who knows, maybe the only way he'll be able to communicate with the turtles is through some sort of translator device that will be introduced later on. After all, the utroms/kraangs can only speak english when they are inside their robot bodies.

No, I respect his decision. Cubed was being a jerk by saying that if it was a 2K3 script, it would have been torn to shreds, basically saying that Ciro's work wasn't good enough and that 2K3 was better with Stockman. I'd leave too if I had to deal with that crap, and I liked what Ciro said, too. Well, he wasn't wrong. It would have been torn to shreds if it was a 2k3 script, but that's just because the aim of that show was quite different from this one. He also did have a point, the t-pod was a lazy plot idea. However, I can see how somebody saying that repeatedly in the same thread could get on somebody's nerves. That being said, this is the internet. He is not the first nor the last person who'll get criticised about their work by some random guy. I really think that us, as a community, deserve better than:

How the first thing you hear once you come in here is 'this place is filled with assholes and jerks', when in truth, it's nothing like that. Or at least that's not what I've seen in the short time that I've been a member here.

Well, (even though this is off-topic! *waggles finger*) The whole Ciro thing was a breaking point. Ciro's been busting his hump for several years working on this show and the creation of these characters and their backstories. Then he gets gang-banged by a bunch of nay-sayers on the forum that don't like anything that's not JUST OT or JUST MIRAGE. Plus, we're only seeing what was said publicly here, we don't know what was going on in the PM world...

I've met Ciro in person, and he is such a nice guy to talk to.. I was very upset with his treatment here and pleaded with him to stay and ignore the trolls. My comment in that thread says exactly how I felt. I did not, and do not, see Ciro as a 'whiny bitch' as some put. he was someone who had worked very hard on a special project, was ready and enthusiastic and excited to share it with like-minded fans.... and someone takes a single glance at ONE PAGE of the entire stack of his work and says, "Shred this entire stack, it is not satisfactory to ME".

Who on earth would not get defensive? The excuse of "It's the internet" is frankly lazy, pathetic, and just shows that people have no sense of accountability for their own actions. That is what is pathetic.

We lost a HUGE opportunity here to share images and ideas with the show PRODUCER, whom is just as much of a fan as we all are. If he Is here just lurking, I sincerely hope that he will be willing to get back into the discussions again at some point.

All because there are some very abrasive individuals who believe themselves to be experts on the creative and psychological minds of the people that created mutant ninja turtle comics 30 years ago, and force their opinions at whatever cost....

Guh, see what happened? You got me going...

Okay, back to the original topic, which is this past week's episode.
