View Full Version : Why does everybody think that OT Casey is more badass then 2k3 Casey

Once you actually think about OT Casey feats they aren't that impressive, sure he went mano y mano with the shredder but basically everyone and their 10 year old beat or at least outsmarted shredder while 2k3 Casey did pretty good for a guy with no formal training

The voice was menaacing with Pat Fraley doing his Dirty Harry impression. Also, Casey Jones was over the top and tear anything apart tht the censors would allow. That was where his humor came from. Never removing the mask made him mysterious while we saw 2003 Casey Jone's face too much.Casey Jones of the 2003 cartoon was also clumsy and not too sharp while the '87 cartoon version was not too bright himself, he seemed to be decent intellct in what we saw. For those reasons Casey Jones is much more a badbutt in the '87 cartoon than the 03. It also helped having Casey in fewer episodes. Casey Jone is not a character I think should be overexposed. It makes his appearances better.

Because OT Casey was crazy and not afraid to beat anybody as he saw fit. 2K3 Casey was goofier and used more as a comedic device than anything else. His first appearance was the best though.

Was...was Fred Wolf Casey supposed to be a badass? I thought he was just supposed to be flippin' insane and hilariously violent, which isn't the same thing.

It's like apples to oranges, too. I thought 4Kids Casey was almost too dumb for his own universe, but he's still from a radically different type of story than Fred Wolf Casey is, and so comparing them seems a bit odd.

2K3 Casey was okay as it was explained why he became a vigilante and having a vendetta against the Purple Dragons. OT Casey would just break your legs if he catches you jaywalking or littering. I do get a good chuckle everytime he says "Stop, Lawbreaker!"

I love the OT version of Casey, its still one of my favorite Action Figures of all time. However, he was not a very accurate representation of the Original Character in the comics.

Casey wasn't Dumb, but he wasn't exactly a genius either. I feel that got overdone in the 2k3 series.

I am looking forward to the new younger version in the Viacom series. His designs definitely look BA. However I can see this going the same way as 2k3 where we see Casey as a regular recurring character, most likely sans mask too often.

However, if he refuses to listen to the Turtles Advice I can see him simply showing up mask and armor all, whenever he pleases... and SLOWLY becoming a member of the inner circle.

Casey starts to suck whenever he starts settling down with April... because then it becomes a matter of 'he has to grow up and stop being a vigilantee' and other such nonsense. Noone ever tells Batman to grow up and hang up the cowl.

It seems that OT Casey was raised in a rougher environment that 4kids Casey since he never really has any good friends and seems obsessed with even the pettiest crime to arrest somebody without even a hint of a warning. He does mellow a bit on his final couple appearances (including a team up with April on his final episode), but remains more tough than 2k3 at any point.

Except in the Dark Knight Rises when Alfred says that to him... etc.

OT Casey was hilarious but really, he haven't done much other than breaking stuff in the name of justice, 2k3 was a much more developed version of him, and it was much closer to the original comics.

But outside the comics, I still love the Movie 1 version of him, the most.

But outside the comics, I still love the Movie 1 version of him, the most.

I second that.

Character development is usually a good thing, but in the case of a cartoon Casey (try saying that three times quickly), I think moral concerns bog him down. Casey was amusing in the Fred Wolf show, but I very much doubt they'd ever get to keep using him long-term for such a shallow, psychotic vigilante role, because if he's a protagonist then kids might start rooting for psychotic vigilantes instead of laughing at them. The only way to do that is to break him out of that mold, because cartoons obsess over black and white morality; in their mind somebody can't be insane and violent and a hero. I disagree, of course. If the Mirage series did "Fallen Angel", Casey probably would have killed that scumbag at the end of it, and I'd think all the more of him for doing it. Yet for them to follow Mirage Casey in terms of getting with April, they had to dumb him down elsewhere. I'm worried they're going to do the same to 2012 Casey.

Leo656

"Law Of Diminishing Returns". We saw too much of Casey in the newer show, and any "edge" he may have had was neutered through over-exposure, especially once he became "domesticated". We barely saw Casey in the OT, so it was almost like an "event" when he would show up.

The way OT Casey was portrayed, though, that would have gotten old quickly. Had he been more prominent, he would have been incredibly annoying.

The first movie version of Casey was probably the best, and that has a lot to do with the fact that it was a one-and-done portrayal that left no room for the character to become a parody of itself.

(Speak not to me of the third film; that was NOT Casey Jones, that was "K.C. Jones", Casey's identical yet wimpier, lamer, decidedly NON-confrontational twin brother who sometimes hangs out with the TMNT when Casey can't make bail or goes on vacation. Everyone knows that.)

Konchadunga

Bastardized he may have been, but I enjoyed TMNT3 Casey a lot more than the TMNT3 Turtles. I also feel it's good for Casey to have a sense of humor, but it should be a gruff, sarcastic one.

Leo656
08-02-2013, 02:39 AM
Imagine TMNT 3, but with OT Casey instead. Things may have played out very differently...

(Scene: Turtles are back in their own time, in their lair, along with April. To their disgust, the ground they stand in is thick with entrails and human blood. On the far side of the room, Casey sits on the recliner watching TV, his feet resting on a mangy, blood-soaked "rug" that looks suspiciously like Master Splinter....)

Leo: "Um... Casey...? What happened here?!"
Casey (his voice a whispery monotone as in the OT): "I had to kill your pet rat. He was givin' me lip."
TMNT (in unison): "WHAT?!?"
April: "Casey, how COULD you?!"
Casey (calm): "NOBODY tells Casey Jones what to do! So I smashed him until he stopped talking. Rats aren't supposed to talk. Technically, he was breaking the law.. of NATURE!"
Mikey: "Uhhh, guys? What exactly are we standing in...?"
Raph: "I don't even wanna GUESS..."
Leo: "Uhhhh, Casey...? Where are our... 'guests'? You know, the ones we asked you to keep an eye on?!"
Casey: "They're dead. Everybody's dead."
Donnie: "Oh, man, I think I'm standing in brains..."
Raph: "Well that figures."
Casey: "They were cheating at floor hockey. Cheating is against the law!"
Leo: "I'm having second thoughts about this arrangement, Casey. We'll pay you for the full day, but you can probably just go home now."
Casey: "This show sucks. I can't find your remote control." (Smashes TV with hockey stick) "Now I can't see anything. The reception down here sucks."
Leo: "...And if a SWAT team shows up in your driveway, you can be sure we had NOTHING to do with it. Seriously. GO."

Ha.

I like it. Does that mean we can finally use Ralph, Leon, Dan, and Mickey, just for the NM Turtles?

Leo656
08-02-2013, 03:25 AM
Absolutely. Those were absolutely the Turtles' cousins from Allentown, PA who they never met nor mention because they're ashamed of them. And Venus, because nobody cares.

Fun Fact: There really is no "Splinter" in NM, he is just a mass hallucination shared between Dan, Ralph, Mickey and Leon, as they share a familial bond through schizophrenic psychosis. That's why "Splinter" looks like he was used to snake a toilet. Venus can't see him, but acts like she can because the others insist he's really there, and since her behavior on the show tells us that apparently she's spent her entire life huffing nitrous retard, she goes along with it rather than question it. She has no idea they're all insane.

Where does 2007 Casey fit if we have been comparing OT Casey to 2003 Casey and we brought up movie 1 Casey as the best and movie 3 Casey as being K.C.?

He's pretty domesticated in that movie.
I do like the 2007 movie. I like the look of the film and I like how the Turtles are animated. The villains could have been better and I wish we got some kinda established villain instead of the whole Winters story... but the plot of the film dealt with "family" so...

I think OT Casey was so insane and violent, that he was considered a "badass" because of it. In addition, he saw everything as a morally "right or wrong" action, and nothing in between. If one caused the slightest infraction against the law, he would harshly discipline the offender and he didn't care about the consequences that would affect him in fighting.

With 2K3 Casey, he was more of a stereotypical brutish and ignorant vigilante thug than anything else.

2k3 Casey is too dumb. Rarely wears the mask, and unfortunately gets way too soft once he shacks up with April. At times almost appeared [()] whipped by her to an extent.

2007 Casey with Chris Evans voicing was balls. Worst of the bunch, IMO.

OT Casey is bat crap crazy, portrayed as an anti-hero. He's bad ass, but almost comically over the top. Which is also funny. He's portrayed more as an antagonist in that series.

Obviously, the iconic 1990 film nailed the absolute BEST balance for Casey Jones. An anti-hero, excessively violent vigilante ... makes a fellow vigilante friend. Becomes a little more sane in the process finding a family, finds love and is made to be so compelling and entertaining by Elias Koteas.

Is there anything the 1990 film didn't do in delivering the definitive account of a character or story line for the TMNT mythos?

I mean, my god ... they nailed:

The Shredder
Splinter
Raph (Josh Pais)
Casey (Elias Koteas)
April (Judith Hoag)

The rest of the characters are usually quite simple to achieve.

The dirty harry voice was awesome, and totally inspired for a vigilante character.

But hey, you can't like a raspy or deep voice ever since the popularity of the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy. Now it's en vogue to not like that type of voice.

I wonder if those same people refuse to see Clint Eastwood in anything. Because he talks like that even when he's not acting like a giant Bat, or wearing a hockey mask.

Difficult to pick which version I like better. I remember loving OT Casey when I was a kid. Although I saw Corporate Raiders from Dimension X before his debut episode. Got his action figure around the same time. The only thing I didn't like about the character was that he had about 3 or 4 episodes in which he was featured and that was about it. I also like 2k3 Casey. He's less of a nut but he can still beat up some foot. Hoping the new 2012 version will be just as cool.

Casey 87's toon was a mysterious anti heroe who never remove the mask, he was a fantastic fighter, to the point to fight against the four Turtles.

Casey 2k3's toon although he is a tough and great fighter, he is a normal fighter as his Mirage Comic's counterpart, it doesn't help he was a dumbass vulgar jerk.

An additional plus to Casey 87's, he was voiced by Pat Fraley. It was cool.

To be fair, Casey 2k3's toon is a more protagonic character in TMNT family, beside Mirage Comics and 2k3 has physical laws "nearly equals" to real life, but 80s cartoon is more a cartoon almost phisical laws aren't influencing in the plot, so Casey's streight and skills are exaggerated.

Yes, yes he did. Movie 1/3 Casey is THE best version (I just consider 3 to be Casey in his "down-time" when he's just kicking back.)

Personally, I was never much of a fan of OT Jones. He was a lunatic who went WAAY overboard EVERY TIME he showed up! Even the turtles themselves admitted he was nuts, and would have very little to do with him. I did like how in the first appearance, they eventually just pointed him at Shredder's mech and basically said "sic him!" And then sent the nanobots after it when he smashed the hole in it. Smart move on their part- they got rid of a threat, and he got to work off some of that obvious "frustration" he'd been dealing with. Makes me wonder WHY he never took off the mask....

At least 2K3 Casey had some personality to him. Yeah, he was kind of dumb, (Hiding by sticking one's head under a table while lying on the floor between two beds? Dumb move, Case.) BUT, he was a good friend to them, cared about April, and actually WAS kind of badass when it came to fighting. He eventually even managed to help fight the Elite Foot, so there's that. I kind of doubt OT Casey would have ever had a prayer against those guys, psycho-vigilante or not.

Being psycho is NOT the same thing as knowing how to fight against skilled opponents. Those Elites even gave the turtles themselves a serious run for the money, and they were TRAINED to fight! OT Casey did pretty well against inanimate objects and common thugs and street criminals, but just bashing at something with a baseball bat won't get you very far against a highly trained killers like those Elites. Neither will just being ripped. In all his appearances, I don't believe he ever once went against anything more dangerous than a few low-level Mob goons or street gangs. And 2K3's Shredder would have had him for lunch- with a sprig of parsley on the side. But 4Kids Casey, on the other hand, actually GREW in skill and bada$$ery as the series went on, no doubt due to his association (and one assumes some practice or pointers from) with the turtles.

I still say that calling an OT character "badass" is a little iffy. The OT is a fun, funny show, so while OT Casey can kick it on cartoon slapstick terms, seeing him as equivalent to the Caseys from more serious universes doesn't work for me.

OT Casey is great as what he is: a total loon with a penchant for smashing material objects at little provocation. I love him to bits.

But I won't call him a badass. He's just hilarious. :D

There isn't anything wrong with Movie 3 Casey. He's the exact same guy as Movie 1 Casey. He just didn't have to fight anyone and he go little time to interact with April and the Turtles.

Casey OT fits his role as a parody. Yeah people find him badass because he's a wild take no crap tenacious type. 2k3 Casey was a little dopey, but he had his moments. he was a lot more grounded. They both fit their respected cartoons.
