View Full Version : Do you think you'll still be a fan of the franchise when you're old?

I'm in my mid 20's now and I'm still following the Turtles since I was 3. I now realize I'll be well into my 30's and still be following it.
I can see myself being 75 years old and watching TMNT on my deathbed.

I guess it depends if they still release awesome series/movies/comics regularly :twink:

Probably. Heck, I'm thirty years old, and I still watch the Turtles. If they're still around by the time I'm old and gray, you can bet I'll be watching them.

Well, let's see..I guess it depends, I mean at one point I'll want kids and have a job, I'll be a fan sure but will I have time to watch the shows? Probably not, I'll try to get my kids into it though  if they have more live action flicks I'll go see them when I canXD

Most likely. Even if the franchise has a few rough spots I'll always like it and I'll definitely introduce my kids to it, if I ever have any.

I'm a mom, I work full-time, and am a full-time college student and I still find time for the TMNT. Where there's a will, there's a way ;). Plus my boys love TMNT as well, so it works haha.
I'm 31 and have been a fan since I was 5/6...so I can see myself still being a fan until I'm old and grey too! The way I see it, if I haven't changed my geeky ways by now, then I never will. It's just who I am, and I am not going to change just because I get old.

What she said! All kidding aside, I'm 36 now and the way I see it I'm ALREADY half way to being old and I'm STILL a fan. Have been since the first movie was made. THIS gal's a TMNT fan for life!!

Even when I was mostly out of TMNT, I still reread my novelisation of Movie 1 once every 2 or 3 years. Now, I've bought more stuff, like comics and DVDs, so I'll be re-enjoying that even if I stop following new developments for a while.
Like say if in 20 years' time they release a new show and it's really bad, or something.
And as long as the new material is good, I'll support it.

My love of the Turtles will likely go in cycles with episodes of interest greater than others, especially considering when new TMNT product gets released. Whenever I have grandchildren will likely be an important time to share. It also depends on the economy. Being well-off, I still have most of my stuff along with new product in my possessions. Unless if TMNT dies off in a few years and any attempt to revive it goes under the radar of fails, I will still be a real fan of the franchise when I'm old, just as I still have an interest in many other things I grew up with today. Just look at what Turner Classic Movies, Me TV, and some PBS shows present for the old audience; those classics have passed the test of time and many of the original fans still enjoy the reruns and pass them to their children/grandchildren. TMNT is no exception.

I'm already too old, but that doesn't stop me.
IMO if TMNT 2K12 turned out to be like Spongebob or Teen Titans Go! which was what I was worried about when I heard Nick bought the franchise... I might have quit. But since it turned out to be such an awesome action-packed show with awesome character, I'm still with it til the end.

I was reminded of something that happened a few weeks ago...one my my son's friends who is 10 pointed out that he is "too old for Ninja Turtles". I told him that I'm 31 and still like TMNT...so you can never be too old. :P

Hahah yeah for sure.
Im 29, and just the other day I was at Target snagging a Cockroach Terminator figure when a mother and her toddler came into the aisle.
The kid got so excited to see the Turtles figures and started pointing and telling mom which one he wanted "Donnie's Friend!" (April). I helped out by handing mom the figure and asked if he's really into the turtles.
She said "yes he can't get enough of the show but this is his first toy. I told her I still remembered my first figure (original rubber head Raphael) and that she should be careful because it can become a life long love.
She laughed and said "I can tell" and gestured to my shirt... I forgot I was wearing a Turtles shirt... while buying turtles toys...
No shame! lol

That is SO cute that he wanted the April figure as his very first TMNT toy.

I can't guarentee that I'll be a fan of future versions. Who knows, the year 2045's version of TMNT may be worse than the Next Mutation version. But I promise that I'll always be a fan of the versions that I have enjoyed up to this point.

Same over here. Just turned 30 this year, and last year my passion for the franchise grew even bigger, when I had the chance to meet Kevin at a Con over here. That just boosted everything over the top:tgrin:
So i guess, I'll always stay true to the franchise. Hopefully they'll keep bringing us the good stuff:tgrin:

Agreed! I'm more into them now than I was as a kid- and it's all because I had a friend on another forum convince me to dust off an old TMNT tale I wrote when I was a kid. I've updated and reworked it, of course, but refreshing mwhennymemory for working on it rekindled my love all over again! And now I can afford to check out all the stuff I missed out on as a kid.

I'm sure I'll still enjoy it when I'm much older. It's just that it waxes and wanes with me as times change, but it'll be on the back of my mind.
Usually most childhood interests stay with people, you often hear in the news about people re-entering a hobby/franchise they enjoyed as a child and it seems to reignite that childhood curiosity or passion they had before. And in the process, discover a talent they didn't know existed. Why should TMNT be any different? ;) I'm sure others have discovered talents in art, writing, game design, filming, editing, music, etc. through their interest in TMNT.

I will probably always look upon TMNT with fondness and nostalgia. I think as I grow older, I start to like TMNT differently than I did when I was younger. I connect with different aspects of TMNT as I grow and change in different aspects of my life.

My interest in the turtles had its highs and lows but it was always there.
Hard to say if I'll still be a fan of them when I'm old. A person's interests change, so who knows if I'll still care about the Turtles when I'm old. However, I'd like to believe that I'll always look back at them fondly.

I think so long as the franchise has something fresh to say and is capable of consistently strong reinvention, I'll always be a fan of it in some capacity. There was that temporary lull when Next Mutation aired, and another small lull when Flash Forward aired, but by that point I had surrounded myself with like-minded types here and I didnt feel as alone or as isolated when NM was airing (days before I had internet)
You can certaingly grow out of the franchise at certain points of course, but like with many products of yesteryear, you can find your love for them all over again, a break can do a load of good as you can place everything in greater perspective.

Of course. If I like Turtles now, I don't see why I won't in 50 years. Even if they keep producing TMNT garbage that doesn't interest me, I'll still be a fan because I'll always have the things that made me a fan to begin with. I'll pass down my love for the franchise to my children through the things I've enjoyed. I'm not too big on the Nick show and the new film sounds terrible, but I'm still here. Whenever I get to the new TMNT show, I'll give it a chance because I'm still a fan, just like I'll be sitting in the theater next year ready to watch Bay's TMNT regardless of my feelings towards it. It's the curiosity that keeps my interest alive with the TMNT franchise because TMNT has already won me over.

Of course I'll still be a fan of the turtles! Too many good memories for them to disappear from my mind. I was born just as the original cartoon started ( '88 ) and my parents tell me I've wanted TMNT since before I could even form memories, lol.
I've grown up with them and they continue to be a part of my life. And even when we all do get old we can still feel young hanging out with the turtles because they'll always be teenagers. :twink:

I suppose is depends on the quality of the material that is around when I am older.. I will always like the same things I like now I.E. the First movie the OT and the nicktoon.. But my fandom dropped off with the 4kids series.. it is alright but wasn't anything that I dedicated any time paying close attention to... So it really depends on what is available... I am 32 BTW.
Most definitely! I can see myself enjoying it til the day I die because it will always connect to being a huge part of my childhood.

I have been a fan ts long as I can remember. I basically remember the turtles through the secret of the ooze movie, and an old video tape from the OT. So my first series to really grasp the turtles was the 4kids series. That being said, I still am a fan of the turtles even after all these years. I like them better now than what I did when I was little. :tgrin:

Sure, why not?
Adults who grew up on the old cowboy shows and the Adventures of Superman still watch those due to nostalgia. I don't see why it wouldn't be the same with us and the turtles.
Although it'll reach a point where we have more in common with Splinter than the turtles themselves.

I don't know, what would your definition of "old" be? At 29, I could already be considered "old". Lol...anyway, sure why not? Yes.
For me, family and friends comes first (as it does for most I would imagine). The most important thing in my life after that is football (Americans know it as 'soccer').
The turtles come next. They're very important to me, and I won't allow myself to fall out of the fandom again. I have many interests - education, current events, various entertainment franchises etc. However, the turtles are something which I feel will always be present in my life.
I'm passing them on to the next generation too as my 8 year old cousin is mad about them. He has lots of the DVDs now (some bought by me, some by himself) and a couple of weeks ago I finally persuaded him to watch the first film (he seems to be easily scared for his age and found the trailer frightening). He ended up enjoying it though and told me he even prefers it to TMNT, which I thought was nice considering he's just a little boy.
That's what we all have to do to keep the franchise going - educate the kids about them.
