I was listening to the "What The Shell" podcast, and they brought up the question of "What would would make the perfect TMNT film?"
So considering all the films, TV, and Comic book incarnations we have.
If you had the ability to add your own vision of a TMNT film, what would it be.
Personally I think my vision would be a trilogy. It would start in Japan with Hamato Yoshi praying over the grave of his beloved Tengshen, then he travels with his pet rat Splinter to America.
While in America, Hamato Yoshi starts up a job at the TCRI building under Dr. Mortu. One point he comes home with four infant turtles. Then one night the Shredder and his henchman come into the apartment hoping to take Hamato by surprise. Of course being a trained Ninjitsu Master, Hamato Yoshi is alert and prepares to face his old enemy and finish what they started. Hamato Yoshi is killed with Splinter and the infant turtles the only witnesses. In an additional act of cruelty, Hun...Shredders head hinchman throws the rat and baby turtles out a window. Miraculously they all survive do to their respective containers acting like a buffer to the impact with the street. The four turtles however all tumble into the sewers, Splinter follows and finds the four turtles and landed in a puddle from a leaking TCRI container. The rat walk into the muck to retrieve the turtles and suddenly he begins to transform into a more man sized rodent, while the four turtles become the size of human infants. The Splinter takes the four turtles and raises them as his sons, training them all as Ninja.
His eldest son Leonardo is naturally gifted at Ninjitsu and a wise leader who his brothers loyally follow.
Raphael is strongest and one of the most troublesome of the four, his anger is a fierce weapon but it also has been known to backfire with unintended results.
Donatello the third eldest and most gentle natured of the four. He is an intellectual genius approaches his skills in Ninjitsu with there same passion as his brothers, but prefers to avoid conflicts by approaching them with reason instead of violence.
Lastly the youngest Michelangelo who could even more talented in Ninjitsu then his older brother, if only he would focus.
Shows a moment where they are receiving their masks and weapons for the first time.
Years pass and the turtles have turned fifteen. As a special birthday gift for the turtles, Splinter enables them to visit the surface for the first time.
In the mean time Baxter Stockman and his in young intern April O'Neil are testing a robot he calls a Mouser by sending them into the sewers to hunt down rats.
The mouser hunts and kills rats as it is designed, but it detects the presence of Master Splinter. Splinter is attacked by the strange robot and destroys it. But he keeps the pieces hoping Donatello will be able to figure out the device and why it had attacked him.
April in the mean time notices the Mouser has gone off line, and goes to inform Stockman about it. However she overhears a discussion about the Mousers working perfectly and soon there won't be any bank in the city that would be safe.
Hun suddenly comes from behind April and grabs her and informs Stockman that she was spying. April breaks free and makes her way into the Sewers. Stockman sends several mousers after her. The Turtles hear her cries of distress, follow them and destroy the mousers. April is knocked unconscious in the confusion. Donatello looks over the wounded woman and insists they can't just leave her there. Leo is reluctant but agrees to carry the woman to her their lair so she can be patched up. But makes it clear that if this does come back to haunt them, Donatello has to accept full responsibility for it.
April wakes up and finds herself in Leo and Donnie's bedroom. Her injuries dressed, she looks about the room and walks into the lairs common area. She begins to wonder where she was and who saved her when she notices a family photo of Splinter and the four turtles on a nearby shelf and hears voices coming from a side room.
She glances into the room and sees the four turtles and one gigantic rat standing in front of a table with the remains of a mouser on the table. Leonardo looks up and says it seems their guest is awake.
April doesn't start screaming or faint at the sight of them. She's more amazed then frightened. When Raph points out she seems to know what the thing that attacked Splinter had been. April explains the robot was called Mouser and it was designed to hunt down the cities rodent population, or that was the original intent. However it seems that her employer Baxter Stockman had a different intent for them.
The turtles help April and defeat Stockman who is sent to jail, however their battle was witnessed by the Shredder and recognizes their fighting style as belonging Hamato Yoshi.

So....where does the movie split up? Or is this all just part one?

He's clearly saving Shredder for the sequel.

That would be the first movie as I see it.
The second movie would involve them fighting the Shredder and learning about the Utroms and how they came to be.
No Shredder won't be an Utrom, though maybe there will be an evil one named Krang who teams up with Shredder to destroy the turtles and take over the world. Even though they are teamed up, they are still willing to kill one another when the other no longer serves any purpose to them.
Karai will be an orphaned girl who has been trained in Ninjitsu. She's an anti-hero, she doesn't fight for the turtles or the foot. She sees the world as her protectorate and any ninja who stand in her way are her enemies.
Casey Jones also is the loose cannon like Karai, however he doesn't see things in black and white like Karai does. He knows shades of neutral gray do exist in humanity as well. He wants to make Hun and the purple dragons pay for what he had done to his family becomes friends of the turtles.

First movie but with top notch camera and execution like Avengers. And yeah, the turtles need to be CGI'ed.
Looks like the upcoming movie is heading that direction. :)

My intro/origin, Yoshi moves to the US to start a new life. He takes a job as a local pet shop clerk. Hes quite poor and lives in a small apartment. Its kinda run down but its all he can afford. Rats, roaches and pests are common. One day reaching into the cupboard hes bitten by a rat. He wraps it and heads to work.
Just as hes about close a man runs in saying hes being chased. He stumbles around looking for a place to hide. Before leaving through the back he takes a out a small glass tube and drops it into a bowl of 4 turtles.
A big dominant looking man walks in after looking for the guy, saying he stole something from him. Yoshi frightened denies he came in and the man leaves. The next day he notices the water in the bowl turned green so he cleans it but finds the glass tube cracked and leaking. He throws it out wondering about it for a minute but washes up and forgets it.
Until he discovers the turtles are changing. He takes them home where eventually he discovers hes changing too.

^That's a nice story but maybe take away the "Yoshi frightened" part, since he's a ninja master who will train four mutant turtles into teenagehood. :)

^ Well I pictured the big man as more aggressive than just simply asking where the guy went and Yoshi not wanting any trouble but ya I guess youre right.
After that Yoshi would retreat to living in the sewers or somewhere underground because of his mutation and has to take the turtles with him. Taking only a few personal items and going back for the broken tube now that he knows it has something to with everything.
The first guy could be a spy or someone that finds out TCRI wants to use the ooze for engineering monsters so he steals a test tube. I haven't thought alot beyond that.
I just never liked the whole randomness of a canister happening to fall out into the sewer or that Splinter is actually a pet rat. That means before mutation hes able to understand martial arts by watching Yoshi? O_o kinda silly imo.

Yeah I'm never fond of the Splinter as a pet rat origin either. No matter how good an animal copies a human, it doesn't have the inner depth knowledge of things, particularly the ninjutsu knowledge.
But IDW comic is an exception imo, because in previous life he was actually a human being. That was actually acceptable and brilliant imo. Very different from what were used to.

The best TMNT movie needs to be completely original and full of new ideas but also completely faithful to the old material.
Also, realistic and gritty but swarming with robots and mutants and aliens.
And you should win things by watching.

A rated-R TMNT that is like the first film would be amazing.
Shredder killing people.
Actual wounds during fights.
The Foot actually putting up a fight.
A final battle atop the Foot hideout which is in flames.

While I feel that the TMNT franchise has already had two perfect films: the first film in 1990 & the 2007 CGI TMNT film, there could definitely be potential for TMNT to one day have a PG-13 animated film much like G.I. Joe:Resolute and the D.C. Universe PG-13 animated films.

I know some people on here don't like the 4kids series but I'd love if they did things more that direction. That series was a lot more serious and had crazy fights, I liked what they did with Karai in that series too, could have been interesting for a film.

I see it as a trilogy.
The first movie opens with rats crawling through the sewers. Waves of rats, an army of rats, clambering over the stone, swimming in the muck, and then a quick shot to a man wrapped in rags, hiding in the shadows. We focus on his eyes, knowing, cunning, yet mad. Cut next to Splinter's eyes, as he comes out of his meditation, aware again of this strange presence that has been touching his mind lately.
There are two major villains in the first movie. An early investigation of the strange behavior of the sewer rats leads the Turtles to the Rat King (Anthony Hopkins), a scarred, bandaged veteran of questionable sanity with a psychic link to his "children." He tells the Turtles that the humans have held the rats down too long and it's time they rose to take the city back. RK points them to the source of the mousers that have been murdering his children lately. That leads the Turtles to the lab of Baxter Stockman (Will Smith), who plans to use his army of mousers to hold the city hostage. Stockman's assistant, April (Emma Stone), discovers those plans and meets the Turtles while escaping the deathtrap Stockman prepares for her as a result.
At some point, we learn Stockman received funding from what at first appears to be some kind of organized crime family from Japan, which we later realize is the Foot. He's behind on payments and they're getting impatient. Word is their leader will arrive in America soon.
It all builds to a big three-way fight between Stockman's army of mousers, the Rat King's army of rodents, and the Turtles and their new friend April. Splinter is lost after the mousers destroy the Turtles' lair, and when they meet him again, he's under the Rat King's spell. The Turtles bring Splinter back to his senses, Stockman's robots and the Rat King's children have their own epic battle, and after the Rat King dies and his army disperses, April remotely deactivates Stockman's army as well.
Splinter and Turtles move in with April until they can find a new place, and they begin to adapt to living aboveground.
After-credit bonus scene: Oroku Saki receiving picture of the mysterious "creatures" reported on the scene when Stockman was defeated.
Second movie: While the Turtles adjust to their new lives aboveground (while still remaining "invisible," of course) and Raph meets Casey Jones, the Foot gathers power in New York and Shredder arrives in America, where he takes command from the NY Foot's acting leader, Karai. After the Turtles and Foot tangle, Splinter relates the backstory of the Foot Clan. Shredder proves a cunning opponent and after a series of skirmishes the Turtles find themselves on the ropes. Just when things look darkest, however, a schism within the Foot leads to the Turtles, Splinter, April and Casey Jones teaming up with Karai to break the power of the Foot Clan in New York, though they have to go through Shredder and mutated B&R to do it in the finale. With Shredder dead, Karai and the Foot make a truce with the Turtles, and she returns to Japan to see to the home branch's affairs now that their leader is in the ground.
Third movie: The Turtles discover TCRI, and the details of their origin are finally filled in. The Turtles meet the Utroms, hear of the warlord Krang they escaped from, then meet him when he tries to invade Earth through the portal the Utroms hoped would be their ticket home. Bebop and Rocksteady find new employment with Krang and get a rematch with the Turtles as a result. During the final battle against Krang, the existence of the Turtles is revealed to the public, but once they've saved the planet, humanity welcomes them to live aboveground in open view, as part of society.
Off the top of my head I think this outline would work.
In the opening of the movie tell the backstory of Saki and Yoshi and how the Turtles came to be. Have April going to college and working for a Prof.Stockman on campus for a while until she finds out he is crazy and he sends the Mousers after her. She takes off running into the subway where she can be safe but is cornered by the Mousers and ends up being saved by the Turtles.
Around that time The Shredder finds out that Yoshi is still alive and is in NY city and wants to end what he started with him in Japan. One of Shredders thugs (Human Bebop or Rocksteady if you want) finds a Mousers in his lair so the Shredder decides to seek out Stockman to find out what the robots are for? Stockman tells him it's to rob the city Banks but The Shredder wants them for other uses..
The movie ends with Shredder laying in an alley near death about to die from a fall off of a rooftop when out of nowhere a drill module rises from under ground. A stone-like man picks him up and puts him in the module and tells Lord Krang on his communicator that man is still alive ....
I see it as a trilogy.

Some great suggestions in here, especially Joey Kamikaze's and Victory angel's. Would be amazing to see a trilogy like those on the big screen.
The first film will be about the Turtles's first encounter with Shredder. They also meet April, Casey Jones, and Leathehead.
The second film starts with Baxter and Rat King chasing the turtles down to an underground cave. There, they find more mutants. All of which are horrific monsters. Except one: Mona Lisa. The film plays out like the Notes from the Underground episodes of 2k3, except they have to find and save Mona Lisa.

First Movie:
- It should be about the turtles and their new friendship with April.
- The Utrom: Mortu vs Krang.
- Krang forms an alliance with Yoshi's rival, Oroku Saki the Shredder and the Foot.
- Baxter Stockman & the Mousers
- Splinter, a pet rat of Master Yoshi & Tang Shen.
Second Movie:
- April's father revealed to be a part of TCRI.
- Casey Jones & Slash (Spike - Raph's pet turtle)
- Shredder and Krang forming mutants: two ninjas (wolf & tiger) and Bepop & Rocksteady (two purple dragons - razorback boar & rhino)
- Stockman mutated into a fly by accident.
Third Movie:
- The Utrom ally with the turtles & Splinter.
- Baxter Stockman returns as a cyborg fly to maintain his intelligence and seeks to destroy the Foot for the punishments they put him through.

Stockman's robots and the Rat King's children have their own epic battle
Your idea seems fairly cool, but I couldn't help but chuckle at these two lines here. I have absolutely no idea how a battle between rats and mousers could ever look "epic".

- Oroku Saki, the Shredder, gets help from Utrom Krang on building the Foot Clan into an organization of mercenaries.
- Krang is an Utrom, who was the original Shredder during the Sengoku period, and spent his whole life hunting down the other Utrom for his imprisonment. He later passes on the title of "Shredder" to Saki to continue his legacy. Though he hides in the shadows, he acts as a personal client to Saki, watching and communicating with him in secret to ensure his plans on Mortu and the Utrom go well and not end up in failure.
- Both Saki & Krang are at each others throats.

The perfect TMNT film for me would have Shredder and the Foot as the main antagonists, but start off with the Purple Dragons and another gang, I dunno like the Silver serpents or something.
Have it start with a quick scene of the car crash that spills the ooze onto the sewer and and the four baby turtles. The ooze is then shown on them and a larger rat approaching, fade to black.
Fast forward 14-16 years later and have April be an investigative journalist tracking the increasingly violent string of crimes believed to be caused by the Silver Serpents and the Purple Dragons, and their leader Hun who has ties with the Foot.
There have also been reports of a hockey masked vigilante assaulting various members of the Purple Dragons to the point of putting half a dozen in the hospital. April asks too many questions and is targeted by both gangs only to be saved by the TMNT through happenstance. The take her away to safety and tell her of their origin.
While she comes to grips to the stark realization that she's in a sewer with Mutant Turtles and a Rat, she also has found out that there is a bounty on her head. The TMNT also tell her that they routinely patrol the city above as practice for a task they have been training for all their lives, and heard from the grapevine. With that the TMNT decide to keep watch over her and put a stop to the Dragon vs Serpent war.

While I agree that his idea wasn't especially good, that was pretty harsh, Powder. But then, you're not known for your tact, are you?
The perfect TMNT movie? I'd say we already have it. It was the 1990 one. (Though I'd tweak the origin story to having Splinter actually be Yoshi after fleeing injured into the sewers from the fight with Saki.) Everything else was great. I might want to add a little more action with the Foot, or better yet, a more serious version of R&B!!

I'd love too see an adaptation of the IDW reincarnation origin. And a compromise between us OT'ers and the Mirage purists; give them their gritty ninja action movie, with blood and limbs flying everywhere, and throw in a darker version of the rhino and the warthog as shredder's minions for our OT fix, and you've got a deal!

I'd like to see one start like the original comic, much like the 2k3 series did. Give us that initial battle with the purple dragons. Then tell whatever story. Cast Anna Kendrick as April, and a BA martial artist as Shredder and I'll buy my ticket now.
As for the turtles, I'm not anti cg, but I'd prefer animatronics/costumes, if its well done. CG can often feel a little, oh, I don't know, un-authentic. But then we are talking about making a movie about giant turtles, so...whatever, I guess.

is the turtles actually using their weapons. I love the OT, but I don't like that the weapon usage was toned down after the pilot. I love Secret of the Ooze too, but I don't like that the turtles had to fight with sausages and furniture dusters. If I go to see the new movie, I hope to see a lot of katana/sai/nunchucks/bo staff action.:tcool:
