My friends that are in to cosplay, are going to find out who he/she is and hopefully, they'll know him so we can ask how he did it. I was thinking of cosplaying Shredder, but that costume would be really difficult, and I'm more of a Cameko(Camera Kid) anyways.

How is Shredder that difficult?
BTW, what exactly is "cosplay"?
GK Punk
06-27-2003, 10:37 AM
Well for shredder I'd have to make his armor. That's the hard part, Helmet, The whole thing I'd have to make from scratch.
Cosplay is: Costume + Play
It was a japanese term adopted by American costumers at conventions in the mid 90s.

Since there's no way I could pull off being a Japanese man, I'd like to do a variation on the old cartoon Shredder. I'd need the helmet and armor, Then I'd do a bodice or corset for the top instead of his shirt. I might also switch his color scheme and have a purple bodice and grey cape. But this is all dreams...I hate sewing and I don't have the money to pay someone else to do it for me.

Why do you find people making costumes based on their favorite characters disturbing?
Because A.) They are probably grown people. B.) They should be well past the "Let's Play Dressup" stage. C.) It's not Halloween.

The one that scares me is the dude that dresses as Sailor Moon. He's also "Crossplayed" other female characters before, but none seemed as Creepy as Sailor Moon.
Then there is the guy we all call Cardcaptor Tommy... he dressed as Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura one year. the next year, he showed up as Rinoa from Final Fantasy. He's a nice guy so I wont say anything bad though.

Well, here's my take on this sort of thing.
A) I am a grown person
B) I "should" be past ninja turtles
C) I'm not
D) Who am I to judge others?
The fact is that we've all made certain choices. I choose to live life with humor and passion. I think its a far better thing to have a quirk that's fun, than a quirk that's destructive.
I'm with Leo656, I'd rather hang out with the people who can create and play, than the druggies.

Because A.) They are probably grown people. B.) They should be well past the "Let's Play Dressup" stage. C.) It's not Halloween.A) What does being grown have anything to do with it? B) It's not simply that; they're showing their creativity of how they made those costumes from scratch, and there're people who use costumes in movies, so do you want to call that "playing dressup"? C) Again, costumes arent' just for Halloween, nitwit; they can be used in movies, plays, or, as I said before, it can be just simply a hobby or art form.
And you have the nerve to call yourself a "geek"

Yeah... I have seem full grown adults go to costume parties all the time. Why should this be any different? Then.. there's also this thing called movie making. What do those actors nad actresses do? They make up and pretend to be someone else (of course, they get paid heaps more money than a cosplayer).
And 7th Turtle, wicked Shredder outfit! :o
My friend in Detroit has a foam rubber Mikey she made with help from her father. She also made the Bebop too. Apparently, they also make creepy foam stage props for haunted houses in the area too. This suit of here is really old now... prolly ten years old. Here's some pics I took at an 2000 con, with some other con goers who were dressed up for Star Wars and X-men. Simply, I think cosplayers are part of what adds to a con's atmosphere.

Obsessed with Godzilla? I do not think so. If you were to ever meet me in person I'm not wearing a Goji suit proclaiming in the loudest voice possible demanding people worship the rubber suited character known as Godzilla. I'm just a normal person who wears moderately normal clothes who might dress up for Halloween in a Goji costume of I had the motivation to make one. But I am in no way a psychotically obessed fan of Goji. Yes. I like the movies (Well for the most part. There are some really crappy movies that make my ears bleed and my eyes burn.) But I would never dream of wearing a Goji suit in public unles it was Halloween. I just think it's weird that people dress up as furry creatures, Pokemon, Klingons, Borg what have you in public at conferences without really being paid to do it. If I was paid to do it, I'd run around in a Godzilla costume at a Goji Convention but other than that I like to just act like myself and not someone or something else.

Heh.. the fact you call it "Goji" proves your obsessed with it. Casual fans don't call it that. And who said these people are pretending to be the characters? They are just dressed like them, for the fun of making the costume and the chance at winning prizes.

Oh, and Ghidorah, thats fine if you don't like what other people do... if everyone was the same, this world would be pretty damn boring. You don't like it, ignore it. I think it'd be kinda fun dressing up as Godzilla or some other Japanese monster and smash things :P :D .

Well....Idiotic American distributors renamed Gojira to Godzilla. What's so obesessed about calling him by his real name? I mean Gojira came first. You want obsessed behavior? Let's chat about how much money alone I've spent on Arachnids then you can talk to me about obsessed.

:) Ghidorah, I'm pretty sure the reason the renamed him Godzilla is because when you say Gojira with out the Japanese accent it does sound like Godzilla. Also, 'ji' makes a 'z' kinda sound and 'r' in japanese is pronounced like 'l'.
Then again, I'm not too good with my Japanese  .

They did it to make money. Sad as it is, that really the only reason ANYTHING makes its way over here. It's called localization, and if you don't like it, just get the fansubed movies.
I had a few comments to the racist thing as well, but Cherubae pretty much covered what I was gonna say.

Hey, I resemble that remark!!! :P And from the Queen, no less. Alas, I will never falter. :D
"Gojira" was changed to Godzilla because that's what the word is supposed to be. But "Godzilla" does not exist in the Japanese language. Going the opposite way, "Star Wars" is "Sutaa Waasu" in Japanese. There's no hidden corporate meaning to the change. It's just how the language works.
