As a person that came in late to this Turtles, though not out of reluctance, but quite frankly forgetting that the show even had aired. The first episode I saw was about the last 7-8 minutes of "The Alien Agenda" one night channel surfing, and loved it. And then retraced back as soon as I could find the other episodes. This show is so much better than I ever dreamed it would and could be, and I truly regret not having gotten on board from the start.

So how has everyone else's opinions of the show changed: From the first time you heard about the new show, to right now.

Well originally, I was put off by the animation but I still had faith considering the creators also worked on Teen Titans prior to this, then I saw the first episode and it exceeded my expectations.

On the whole this first season was very effective as a return to form for the series, it does a good job of developing (most) of the characters, and it delivers in action sequences and humor, but it wasn't perfect. There are several out of character moments in the show, however they are far and few between the episodes.

The Krang are overused and are the primary villains, a role which belongs to the shredder who is underutilized in this season and (save for the finale) has gotten zero character depth or development. The mutant-of-the-week formula is starting to get a bit stale with most of them not leaving much of an impression.

Another problem with the show is the fact that April is slightly reduced to a damsel in distress but Mae Whitman is very likeable in this role that it's almost not that major.

I enjoyed the first season and I hope that most these issues are improved on in Season 2

My opinion hasn't really changed. I liked the first two episodes a lot and I still like the show a lot.

My only problem with the show is some of the filler episodes about mutants like Spiderbitez, Cockroach, etc. are kinda boring, but that's all. If they can improve the fillers about the boring filler mutants, I'd be content.

I also think we need more human villains. Definitely need someone like Hun and more Foot Soldier fights.

There were a lot of things that made me reluctant to like this show when I first heard about it, but now I love it and am glad I decided to check it out. I wasn't too fond of April being a teenager, but that changed as we saw more of her character and I love her in this version. I think the main thing that made me leery was that Nickelodeon had bought the Turtles, and I was worried they would make a horrible cartoon, but this cartoon is awesome, and I can't wait to see more of what they bring to the table. Ciro and the rest of the cast and crew have blown me away.

I was never worried, Ciro is an amazing producer, and I'd knew he'd do a good job.
But I never expected it to be as good as it is, And season 2 looks like its going to be better.

The only thing that ever rubbed me the wrong way was that they had 3 toes, but I got over that mad quick. That aside, I had high expectations, and they were even blown outta the water. I had a feeling it would be the best TMNT series yet, and for my tastes anyway, I was right. So it hasn't changed much, I was happy from the jump. :tgrin:

I was initially turned off by the anime style, but at this point you can pencil me in under "fangirl." Not to the point of arguing with other people, in all caps, about Raphael's True Feelings. Saw it on Tumblr the other day, no lie.

First few episodes I wasn't really impressed, when Karai came into the picture is when things picked up for me. After that it got better, though I wish they didn't add in the Donnie x April one sided romance bit cuz we all knew it wouldn't happen in the end what with Casey show cased for season two  it's like, what's the point? They should have shown April get close to all the turtles, hopefully that changes as the seasons go on, I don't know felt odd to me.

I did like, how over the course of the season we saw Leo develop into a leader, that really showed in the finale :D

Mikey got the short end of the stick out of all the turtles though, again hope they fix that next season. See him grow into a more mature kind of guy, I could actually see next season finale, show him getting yelled at for being so immature and screwing up missions than deciding to change and save his family.

Over all, it was pretty good, see if it can top the 2003 series as the seasons go on, that was a favorite of mine :D

I was never worried about the show, and my expectations were blown away when it premiered. I love everything about it, the character designs, the voices, everything. I do wish we could see more of characters like April, Shredder and the Foot though.

My first expectations upon hearing Nick acquiring the rights were mostly leery because I didn't know what to expect, since I don't particularly like about half of their shows.

Throughout the first three-quarters of the first season, I was fairly critical about the immaturity of the Turtles. Yes, I know they are teenagers, but the lack of sympathy in some scenes (with "The Pulverizer Returns" episode), Raph's over-the-top rude behavior (until "Operation Break Out), and Mikey's excessive dumb moments were unappealing to me (and still is). I'm still slightly disappointed that the characters' physical statures parallel the personality stereotypes, but oh well.

After watching the full season, I can see now that they are gradually trying to mature the Turtles so they can present a much more substantial journey in growth. So I can appreciate the show from that perspective.

In the beginning and even for the first three-quarters of the season, it was a "Eh... its fine." especially with the "Mutant of the Week" episodes (which is why I didn't bother to comment on the first two-thirds of the official episode threads for this season), but now there's a little more anticipation for it as there are better plot twists. So far I "like" the series, but don't necessarily "love it" since I can still wait for 1-2 weeks in seeing a new episode without feeling antsy.

There are some character traits and/or emphasis on particular aspects of the characters that are just not suiting my taste as to why I don't "love" it, but hey it's just in its first season. (As we all know from the OT and 2K3, many things can change after 1 or 2 seasons. ;)) Who knows, maybe things might be more clear from a hindsight perspective after a few seasons. I'm still keeping an open mind and still look forward to each episode, but I'm just not as "enthusiastic happy" as most of the people here are on this thread.

Before it came out? I was really on the fence. Three toes (yeah, I was one of those too), April a teenager? Splinter has a daughter now? Don's tooth gap and Mikey's freckles... eh. I wanted it to be good though. I set my dial on cautiously optimistic.

Then I got a sneak peek at SDCC 2012 and it changed everything! I came out of that panel so freaking excited, I had to call people while walking out just to tell them how great this show was going to be. I was so hooked from there on - the first episodes grabbed me immediately and I've been right there ever since. Here I thought I'd be more into the IDW comics (and they're great too, don't get me wrong) but I thought this show would only appeal to kids, that it would be too kiddified for me to enjoy. I can't believe how much I'm loving it, and it's really because it's being made by a bunch of dudes who grew up with this stuff just like I did, who are into it just as much. It's really great. :D

Said it before and I'll say it again - feels good being a tmnt fan all over again! :D

I have really LOVED this series. The animation is smooth and seamless, the stories have continuity and a good flow to them. The characters have really come into their own, and filled out over the course of the show.
I love the new Splinter.
The humour is a good balance of more grown up quips, to slapstick and sarcasm.
They aren't afraid of showing the Turtles flaws. They really show the development of their skills and their teachings from Splinter. Donatello isn't an instant genius, and his designs DO go wrong!
Love everything about it, and can't wait for season 2!!

Was leery of the CG, because a good traditionally animated show is awesome, but it grew on me. In my opinion, it's a great blend of of the humor of the FW series and the action of the 4Kids series. Great middle ground.

I from the start of the series had high hopes because of nickelodeon's other action series like The Last Air bender. I hoped the series would borrow heavily from the 2003 series because it felt like a more edgier updated version of the 1980's cartoon.

Anyway this show has not exceeded my expectations . All the information I read prior to the premiere in 2012 kind of gave me hope that this show would be awesome. After watching the whole season, I was letdown a little. I felt the show was rushed and the show tried to set up too many plots to resolve and nothing really happened during the course of the season. I felt the turtles were acting too close to human teenagers and kind of lost their fantasy edge. These are mutant ninja turtles. Half of their appeal is the ninja turtle aspect. They are not just regular human teens who can fight.Their was not enough cohesion in between episodes, so the story was lacking a little. Kraang should have been the only focus for this season and Shredder for season 2. The mutants didn't bring anything to the table other than more toys to sell. The purple dragons were basically non existent. They were not nearly the same intimidating force like it was on the 4kids series. They seemed to be just their for the turtles to beat up on.

However I want to point out the voice acting is top notch. I like all the voices, and the animation. The movements during the fight scenes are a treat to watch.

I apologize for my harsh criticism, and don't mean to offend anyone. I thank the cast and crew for their hard work and hopefully we will see more cool stuff for the second season.:tsmile:

I have to disagree, I think it was a good idea for them to act like teens, it made a lot more relatable. In past versions they acted more like they were in their late teens. I mean, what's the point of having "Teenage" in their title if they hardly act like that?

Honestly, I didn't what to think about the new show before it came out. From how the trailers portrayed it, some of it turned me off from it because I didn't like how the characters looked and the phrase "Booyakasha!". I was afraid that this show would try to hard to be like the 80s series, of which I loved but has aged.

When the show first aired I enjoyed the first few episodes to an extent but I think my biggest problem with it when it first aired was that it was lacking it's owns identity. It was hard to figure out what the direction of this show was going for; was it trying to be like the 87 series, the 03 series, was it trying to be an action or comedy series, why is there anime expressions in a CG cartoon, etc. Basically what is this show trying to be. The animation also threw me off, sometimes it was smooth, other times it looked like the same as Penguins of Madagascar ("Metalhead" for example).

But as the series progressed (probably when Karai appeared), I started warming up to this show because it finally knew what kind of show it wanted to be. I really do like the action. I believe "Never Say Xever" had the best action in this series. While there are still some things that irk me about this show, for the most part I am enjoying what I'm watching.

Off-topic, I am actually new here and I was wondering if anyone can help me on how to have a profile pic.

I was always pretty optimistic so my opinion hasn't really changed. I think as the show has gone into more serious territory I've become an even bigger fan. I appreciate that like Avatar, it can still keep its sense of humor even when things get serious.

I just love this show, and my opinion hasn't changed at all since I watched the first episode last September. I have loved it the whole time. Before the show came on, I thought it was strange that they were going to have April as a teen and three toes, but it works for me now. I love what they have done with the turtles. Bring on season 2!!!

Quoting my post on the subject: (http://nymonsters.wordpress.com/2013/08/04/looking-back-tmnt-2012-season-1-part-1/)

A lot of comparisons have been made between this latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Teen Titans, and not without reason: TMNT‘s tone and visual style both recall the older show, and I don’t think it’d be farfetched to surmise that showrunner Ciro Nieli—who served as director in episodes like “Terra” in the older show—uses it as one of its north stars (the other North Star being, of course, the Fred Wolf cartoon). And frankly, I have absolutely no problem with that: one of the things I think that show did really well was to balance its humor and character moments with legit action, the way the first TMNT cartoon tried but could very rarely achieve. What’s more, the way Teen Titans commitment mixed utterly off-the-wall episodes like “Employee of the Month” with restrained, emotion-driven fare like “Things Change” was itself very reminiscent of the TMNT’s approach to storytelling, not just in that first cartoon, but in all its incarnations. In the end, it is that variety—what I call the Doctor Who factor, after one of that show’s trademark characteristics—that has allowed the concept to work in all its different takes.

[...]

It is precisely this element which I feel is missing from Nick’s Turtles, and one of the two major things that prevents me from enjoying it as much as I’d like. Missing from the show is that sense of scope, that sense of “what will they tackle next?” The original comic book wasn’t just a comic book about ninjas: it was a book that held you by the shoulders and told you “abandon all expectations; this is a book about whatever we want it to be, and that can be anything”. It’s why, when the Archie book decided to spend a story arc having the turtles travel South American in a series of stories with a distinctively environmental bent, it still felt like the turtles.

Compare this version’s freshman season with its predecessor’s. By the time “The Search for Splinter” ended, the audience had seen superheroes, fight clubs, living drawings created by Jack Kirby, nanomachines, homeless-people kidnappers, mobsters, monsters, monster hunters, ancient civilizations and yes, mutants and ninjas and brain-like aliens. While a considerable amount of time was spent in New York, the series also went to other dimensions, deep underground, and even Massachusetts, and the result was a world that felt considerably more stimulating than this one.

In contrast, Nick’s TMNT feels no larger than the few city blocks we always see when the turtles head topside. Part of it is clearly due to budget constraints—never has such a good-looking show looked so bound–but a lot of it is also in the execution. In focusing so much of the story on the same two sets of villains—the Foot and the Kraang—and connecting every other threat to them, the series has taken away a lot of the interest away from the world. Why should we care about it, when we know there’s nothing interesting there?

probably one of my biggest concerns when i heard about it, thinking it would look very cheesy, but honestly its looked great, the only scene that to me didnt look that great was the rooftop scene in turtle temper, there they just looked way too CG

I have 2 agree w/ u on these part, the show has had a good start and I feel like it has taken in a even mix of the previous versions though I was hoping 4 the show 2 take after the 03 a bit more, when I 1st heard about the nick version, I was wary/really upset cause I feel like animated shows r better drawn than done in cgi but its turning out better than I expected in that aspect

if some of u have read some of my previous posts where im talking about them being humanized 2 much in this version and the 80s version, part of the quote above says part of wat I mean by that and that them being mutants, they don't have the same experiences as humans so y try 2 make them seem like humans

this is kinda a long shot but im hoping that some company out there makes more of a version directed toward adults or more anime-like in terms of less limitations as 2 the content and wat can be shown on the show, I understand its more of a kids show and nick more than likely wont do this but I do hope 4 it 2 take on more than "kiddy-show" limitations, then again, I am a high-action anime fan, and on the purple dragons in the show, I feel like they r completely WEAK!!! but that's my personal opinion

I do appreciate that they brought karai back and some of the plots have been pretty good, along w/ some of the fights, though honestly, I feel like the best fight scene is in the gauntlet and that even though it was a good fight scene, it does come close 2 the fight scenes in 03 but is far from evening topping that, again, personal thoughts coming from a anime fan

on a end note, having newtralizer eat that kraang was a nice touch which I wasn't expecting 2 be in the show

I like the fact that they've taken the the best elements of the 2003 series and blended them with things about the original brand that were actually cool while also giving the show that "Goonies" feel. TMNT should always have sort of a "lost boys who know more about the world via what they see on TV than from actual interaction with others" feel to it, which was captured well in the first and fourth movies, too.
