View Full Version : TMNT Nicknames
Do they call each other by anything else than their names/nicknames? (Leo, Mike/Mikey, Don/Donnie, Raph/Raphie..) I was reading the comics and Leo called Mikey "Mikie", that was new for me. And it sounded so weird..!

So was it just some kind of tiny mistake or does that happen? I guess I'm talking mainly about the comics here, but I put this thread here just in case I've missed something from somewhere else. And I'm not talking about them calling each other bro or something silly, like shellhead, but some kind of alteration of their names. I prefer them calling each other the way they usually do, but I'm just curious..
ED: Well, there's Mikester buut..

I can't think of any alternatives than that, no.
But I think Raph once called Mike for Mickey and Don for Donald, as an insult.
I can't remember exactly where though, I believe it was somewhere in the comics volume 2-4. Someone correct me if I'm completely wrong.

"Secret weapon" for Raph in 2003, I believe ;P

That's like calling someone named Dennis, Denis. It's the exact same thing, just spelled differently.

Some fans have alternate names for them: Leon, Ralph, Mickey and Dan.

I think I heard Raph say Lameonardo once

Yep, he said that in "Metalhead." He's also called Leo "Chief" a few times I believe.

I think Michelangelo once referred to Leonardo as "Leon" in that snake episode from the FW series. I might be wrong though.

In the Archie comics, Don was once referred to as Donasmello and Leo was Leonerdo....if I am remembering correctly. I think it was in the Stump Asteroid ones.

That's actually really cute and would make another perfectly acceptable nickname for Leo. I wonder why they don't use that (outside of that one instance) seeing as the others all have two versions of their nicknames-Don/Donnie, Mike/Mikey, Raph/Raphie, and Leo doesn't. I rather like the idea of calling him Leon.

Leon is still part of the name Leonardo, so I think it's neat too. Much better than Leoie hhahahaha

I have to ask - please pardon my ignorance - but where did "Raphie" originate from? I hadn't heard it (or somehow didn't notice it) until attempting to actually interact with other TMNT fans.

I know in 2k3 they called Raph "Raphie" a few times. Mikey and Donnie mostly did.

I think it's only certain kinds (:trolleye:) of fangirls who call him that.

I notice beside Leo during their childhood they both called him that instead of Raph. Nice little thing they grew out of when they became 15. Random Trvia: their are many instances where 2k3 Leo refers to the Turtle by full name.

I do think it came from the 2k3 show as I've yet to see it anywhere else. The first time I heard it I was a little taken aback since I thought it was a bit strange (and I believe it's mostly Mikey who says it), but after awhile it really began to grow on me. I know in the 2k3 little 1 minute short vids that Don calls him Raphie at least once which was pretty darn cute (as he didn't even say it in a mocking tone). I know some fans don't like it, but I can easily see Mike and Don referring to him as such, especially since they too have nicknames ending with 'ie', though I'm not sure Leo would call him by such a childish name. While it's acceptable for Raph's younger brothers to use it, I think coming from Leo it would sound condescending.

Ah, thanks all! I was thinking it was the 2003 show, but I don't remember hearing it in the episodes I saw (but again, doesn't mean they didn't say it). Powder, that thought did cross my mind as well, I'll be honest - it didn't exactly strike me as a nickname he'd go by willingly.

Yes, I remember a few times Don calls him "Raphie", and not just in the short vids...I think one would be sometime in season 2, since I remember it recently and that's where I am in watching it through with my kids. (I've watched 2k3 through a few times...but its the first time for them.) I like it...I think it's adorable, especially coming from 2k3 Don since he's so gentle and soft spoken. I cannot picture Leo calling him that, however, you are right it would be very strange....almost an insult.

I think that happens a lot, in all incarnations.

Don calls him "Raphie" in The Shredder Strikes Back part 2 when he says, "Raphie, we got trouble up here." Raph responds, "Like I don't have trouble up here?"
Also, Raph has called Leo "Fearless Leader."

In the comics, I've even seen Splinter referred to as "Splinty" once. How about "Splint" in the vein of Leo, Don, Raph, and Mike(y)?
The video games were the first popular incarnation to use the Turtle nicknames, though I still prefer "Mike" over "Mikey" as Ultra/Konami used.

Oh, I didn't know that, thanks!
And Don once called Leo Neo in the '03 series, if I remember correctly.

That reminds me...Raph calls Leo "Chief" sometimes on the new show. I've always like the "Fearless" or "Fearless Leader" nickname for Leo.

Yeah, he does, and I prefer "Chief" over "Fearless Leader" because it seems like Raph is using that one in a sarcastic way, whereas "Chief" is used in a more endearing way.
