I was looking for Krang quotes on IMDb, and noticed there was a character from Doctor Who listed as well. Looks like he was a very specific Cyberman (http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Regos_Krang) and he looked like this:

Am I seeing things, or does he have some visual similarities with Krang's android body?

Back when (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=926159&postcount=12/day/2012/12/9) I asked David Wise about whether or not he drew inspiration for April's jumpsuit design from Doctor Who, he replied with:
My local PBS station was only showing Tom Baker episodes at the time. I didn't get to see Mel [who was the Doctor's assistant between 1986-1987] until 1989.

So, I guess the likelihood that he could have been inspired by that one might have depended on what he was able to have seen up to that time. Not being a Who-vian fan, I wouldn't really be able to speculate on the probability.

Looks like Baker was a later (4th) Doctor...heck this episode is from the run of the 1st.

Please note all this is researched...as I am also no Whovian.

EDIT: I guess the real question is: Is Krang's android body based on the Cybermen?

Is Krang's android body based on the Cybermen?

No, I don't expect so.

This is from the first Doctor's last serial. I do recall being amused by the name when I watched this one. But this is the very first appearance of the Cybermen, and their look is very crude and not anywhere near what has become the iconic look of the Cybermen. There's no reason for anyone to use this as inspiration for anything.

Am I the only one who doesn't see a resemblance?

My wife and I both wanna get into it, see what all the hubbub is about and all, but it's a daunting task considering the pedigree if the show and its age.

Regardless of any actual connection to the TMNT, there is somewhat of a resemblance. At any rate, that thing is creepy as hell! :trazz:

Just start with the 2005 series with Christopher Eccelston and you'll be fine. If you start to dig it, then venture back to the beginning.

It also important to stay away from fans until you're really far into the show cause they will affect your opinion on some things like on certain characters and episodes.

not to mention a brain-like creature using a robotic exoskeleton to get around.

There was one definite "Dr. Who" reference in the TMNT series-in "Enter The Fly", Baxter Stockman, when his device fails while he is in top of the World Trade Center, make a reference to "reversing the polarity of the neutron flow", a phrase used in the Jon Pertwee era.

I used to always think that phrase came from Star Trek! Ah... who knew we were subtly being influenced by British science-fiction at such a young age.

I don't see the resemblance. It's probably from the first doctor or second doctor seasons.

The original Cybermen were ALWAYS creepy. The new ones from NuWho are complete pussies. There are complete morons compared to their original versions.

I do see a resemblance, as well. Nice find.
