Now that we know Karai truly was Miwa is it possible that she could be redeemed later in this series?

We don't know much about what her life with the Shredder has been all these years, other then the fact that she had been raised with the belief that Splinter murdered her mother. And there has some hinting that Shredder was an abusive parent, who also spoiled her rotten at times as well.

Personally I believe it is possible she may be redeemable and may begin to realize that the Shredder has lied to her all these years. However I believed that she is too damaged to be sweet and innocent Miwa ever again. And part of her may still harbor an ingrained hatred for Splinter even if she does learn that he was not the one who murdered her mother.

Given the way this series works, it's not like she's killed anybody. She's quite clearly not pure evil, so I'm sure that possibility is a strong one.

I think the bigger question is not if she's redeemable, but rather what will happen to her when she's fully convinced on the truth.

I think she will accept the truth, but she will not stick around with Splinter nor Shredder. She will be on her own free will, away from it all. Not taking sides.

They'll drag it out over the course of the show like 4kids Karai.

It's incredibly blatant she'll be redeemed. Lets see the facts.

*She's the only normal looking character on the side of the foot (not counting the PDs). The rest are all hideously deformed and freakish, and the one who isn't is always in a mech and will become a fly. Shredder has a badly burned face, Dogpound is asymmetrical and sinewy, Fishface lacks legs and has horrible dentition, and the Foot Soldiers have covered faces.
*She flirted with one of the turtles. If a villainess romantically interacts with heroes, that's a pretty quick path to redemption.
*She does not have a toy yet, and the toys alligeances reflect their final one. For example, Leatherhead was advertised as evil, but became good and was listed as such on his toy. Odds are they are waiting for her to become good to make the toy.
* She's the sole girl in an evil group. The female is the most likely to go good as opposed to anyone else (Pretty Bomber in Bomberman, most female power ranger baddies (even RITA REPULSA herself), etc)
* And lastly, she's Miwa, Splinter's daughter.

I think she'll be a stand alone villain eventually. Once she finds out the truth, she'll probably hate Shredder for lying to her, and hate Splinter for never coming to get her back.

Probably this. But hopefully she takes a few episodes to make her choice.

I think she will if/when she finds out the truth and believes it to be true.

Since the show has three guaranteed seasons. I would say currently the plan would be reveal about 1/2 to 3/4 of way through second season. Then have her renounce Shredder at end of second season. Third season will be more about her fight to accept her new path and what she must do about it.

Then in four she causes a giant war between the foot and turtles.

A rogue/anti-hero Karai would be really interesting. I like this idea.

My hope is that Karai knows Splinter is her real father, but the lie Shredder told her was that Yoshi killed her mother, his wife, and that he was goingto kill her if it wasn't for him

Well remember that old episode in 1987 "Splinter no More"?

Maybe Splinter could ask Mr. O'Neil if he can make a formula to make himself human again and find Karai.

Splinter/Yoshi tries to hide his true identity from her to convince Karai that Saki/Shredder isn't her real father. Maybe give a copy of his family picture to her in case "time runs out" for him to return to his rat state again.

I think she's redeemable, but I hope it doesn't happen. Karai`s personality is all about mischief so I see her accepting the truth and pretty much vowing to take Shredder out herself, with or without the aid of the Turtles. If that's the case, once Shredder is out of the picture, I see her fading away a while to sort of find herself and ending up doing her own thing. No matter what, I think we're in for a really good Karai story.

I think she can be redeemed at some point, but the question will be when she will come to that state? It may take her some time to accept the truth, and while she's figuring out who she is, I can see her going away on her own to try and find herself.

Kirby is a psychologist. If they were going to make a formula, I think it would more be Donnie to do that.

Anyways, I could see this becoming a "nature vs. nurture" thing. Is she going to remain "evil" b/c she was raised that way, or will her "good" genes prevail? I think that the second season will have her finding out the truth at some point, and then the finale having something happen where she needs to make a choice. Maybe some event where she has to choose between Splinter and Shredder. I know she will have a difficult time dealing with all this. I dont see her taking sides right away. I agree with some that she may be angry with Shredder for lying to her, and angry with Splinter for not coming to look for her. That does have me wondering. Why DID Splinter think she was dead? Did he think that her body was so horribly burned in the fire that it could not be found?

If she was burned up, I think didn't want to see her in that state as it would be something he would never be able to get out of his mind. Charred bodies do not tend to look nice. Plus the smell...isn't something you'd want to associate with humans. It's basically cooked meat.

So no, I could understand him not wanting to look in the building after the fire. It would have been too much.

Maybe...but I think he would have wanted to look to give them a proper burial? I am not up on Japanese burial rituals, so I cannot say for sure.

I don't think there was time. The fire was spreading, and I think Splinter just wanted to get out of there before he died himself. Even though he never found Miwa's body, he just assumed she was lost as well.

Karai is defiantly redeemable. Unlike Shredder, Dogpound, and Fishface, she doesn't appear to be totally evil.

Totally. She's like an anti-hero of sorts, or may become more of one later on.

Okay so we've had Karai attack Splinter and he runs way from her in what she believes is cowardice.

Next she tried to kidnap the Turtles so she can use them to bait out Splinter. I believe it was implied that she wanted him to watch as the Foot bots fought, over powered, and killed his sons one by one.

When that plan doesn't work, she decided to attack April O'Neil because if the Turtles lost someone precious to them they would fall apart from within.

I don't see this as her next plan of attack, but an eventual plan of attack will be destroying the Turtles Lair and exposing them the human populous of the city.

It definitely seems that Karai isn't finished with the turtles by a long shot. I'm pretty curious what she'll be planning next. She starts to remind me more and more of 2k3 Karai in season 4, as she's losing herself to her own hatred and anger. Even her fighting skills seem to suffer from it.

Karai is still redeemable though. A forum member here once pointed out that Karai not being physically present among the bad guys (only as a reflection) could be a sign she's not a lost case like most of the others are.

But at this point Karai needs to find out on her own who Shredder really is and how he has lied to her. If Leo is there for her at that moment there's a good chance she finally wants to leave the Foot clan and accept his help. But like others have already said, it doesn't necessarily mean she'll join the turtles as part of their family afterwards.

I don't know, it just really seems like something for Leo not only to take on his master's burden, but eventually that of Karai as well. In a way he's already doing that by telling Karai her vendetta should only be directed at him.

I'm kinda hoping for an (emotional) showdown between Leo and Karai one day where Leo will allow Karai to vent all her anger and frustration at him, almost as a kind of "punching bag", ending with Karai finally breaking down in the end.

She just seems to have a huge amount of anger and frustration bottled up inside of her.

Lets see if she blows up the lair, she could go through the wreckage to find some proof that Splinter and the Turtles are dead and comes across a certain photo of herself as a baby. And the man with her mother would most certainly not be the man she knows as her father. That could lead her to question how her mother actually died.
