View Full Version : Why no OT section?

There are discussion board sections for the 2K3 cartoon and the Nick cartoon, but none for the original cartoon. Am I to assume that the "OT" falls under this category - "TMNT: General?" While I'm at it, there isn't a section for the Next Mutation series either. Not saying the site needs a Next Mutation section, just pointing out that it doesn't have one.

This IS the OT section. This whole site started around 1999 when the original cartoon was the only series that existed.

Thank you, that's what I was wondering.

And TMNT was mostly something mostly associated with the past (peaking 5-10 years earlier).

I doubt this place would have been called the Technodrome if this site has been started today.

The forum index specifically indicates to discuss the classic series and no place else. The Next Mutation only lasted one season, came right after the original series, and falls under the "miscellaneous" umbrella (think Turtle Tunes, Coming Out of Their Shells, and other oddballs such as Operation Blue Line). Its also the place to discuss multiple incarnations, even if it doesn't include the original series.

And that fan from Sweden hasn't fully appreciated the Nick Season 1 finale by virtue of this site's name.

I've seen all of season 1 in the 2012 show, but compared to 1999, people today are much more aware of other TMNT versions (even those created before 1999) than back then.

Some people like the taste of coffee, but have negative reactions to caffeine, such as panic attacks, etc.

I feel the same way Powder. But when I drink it with sugar, or better yet, flavored creamer it's fantastic. Of course, I'm always a fan of a good Hot Mocha too!

I have to add so much sugar and other flavorings it hardly counts as coffee anymore.

I kind of feel like at this point the OT should have its own category. It feels like kind of a disservice to lump it into the General section, which I think could be reserved for more miscellania and all-encompassing topics. I know the forum started as strictly OT fair, but it's really branched out since then and the OT isn't the prime focus of most dromers these days (imo).

Anyway, sorry to get off topic, let's get back to coffee.

This. I totally agree. The days of living off memories of the OT and hoping for the turtles to come back someday are long gone. We had a new series in 2K3 and a new one now. I think it's fitting the OT has its own seperate section. General TMNT Discussion should be just that, GENERAL discussion. Let the OT have its own section.

In theory it would make these forums more organized, but it's gonna be a massive undertaking for the administration/moderators to read, discern, and separate over 6,000 threads.
Or even if a whole new OT forum section was created (and the separation was never done), users would eventually have to search through two different forums if they wanted to search for a particular OT subject.

On the topic of separate forums, the TMNT comic forum should probably include 3 different sub-forums within it for the 3 different popular TMNT comics (Mirage, Archie, and IDW), but that's also going to be another huge organizing task as well.

...And I don't know who would have the time and/or patience for restructuring and organizing it all. :ohwell:

Why not delete them and start all over? I assume in a month the OT section and General Discussion section will be back to having 10 pages of topics. They're still pretty popular topics.

LOL, :P it could be that simple. But there's a lot of information already in the threads that has been very difficult to find outside of these forums (which is one primary reason why I registered on the forums), good contributory posts from inactive members, intriguing perspectives/opinions of the characters, plot, etc, and exclusive OT or general TMNT information that may have been already deleted/lost from other websites.

One example is an extensive internet search I went through in finding out if the OT had a future after the series ended (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=1117009&postcount=27). Just compiling this information was somewhat tedious, and I'm sure my single post is just the tip of the iceberg in comparison to the vast contributions from the longer residing users of these forums.

So deleting it all would be too drastic, it would be like throwing away a tremendous clutter pile of your things without even looking at it. Of course there are some ridiculous items (closed/lock threads) and mundane items (simple polls on what series was better), but also inadvertently the valuable things (as I mentioned earlier) would get tossed out as well, and could be lost forever. So the "pile" just sits there unless someone is ready to dive into the pile and starts separating... :ohwell:

Give everyone a month to save their favorite/most important/obscure OT info on their wordpad or whatever before the deletion process begins.

Really, who even looks at page 10 or even page 5 of message board topics anymore? Shredder or Krang could delete the last 20 pages-worth and noone would ever know.

**shrug** I guess...

I wouldn't say "look back" through, but the users definitely search through the topics. Eh...whatever **shrug**

That's true, it likely would be a large undertaking to separate the years of threads from one another, but I don't think it would be a crucial measure to take. If an OT specific thread was started, after a couple months old OT threads in the General section would be a few pages back and eventually die off, and the ones popular enough to keep getting posts (and the stickied threads) should be easy enough to transfer to a new OT thread, right? Plus if someone wanted to search for an old OT thread but didn't know which section to look in, they could just use the "search" feature, as it accesses all threads. I don't think deletion would be necessary at all - preserve the archives! Any mods want to weigh in?

Maybe a tag like the B/S/T sub-forums where we can put [Fred Wolf] at the start of a thread or something like that....

Okay, to sum this up once and for all, take a look at what it says under "General TMNT Discussion".

Discuss the classic TMNT TV series and miscellaneous TMNT-related topics here.

Are we done, now?

Naw. At least visually the OT deserves its own section. I'm kinda surprised it just didn't break out into own separate section when the DVDs started coming out bringing attention to it back. It's just... General Discussion is just that... General Discussion, where you should be able to discuss things that affect or crossover into all of the shows, not just the OT.
