A new online game has surfaced: http://www.nick.com/games/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-trick-or-treat-tussle.html

It's a cute Halloween themed game...I especially like their costumes.
Leo is Captain Ryan (who else)
Mikey is Spongebob ( )
Raph is...a fairy princess ( :o )
Don is a...medieval/shakespearean guy I guess...
and April is a ninja turtle.

As for the enemies...
Foot Soldiers are dressed as clowns
Kraang are dressed as winged cowboys (?)
and Mousers are dressed as devils.

The story is that the baddies are handing out mutagen covered candies, and you've gotta stop them. The game itself is pretty fun (but quite challenging!), you should check it out.

The game over music sounds a bit like lavender town from pokemon.

It seems like a game that I would play on my SNES or GBA.... Also april looks good in a turtle costume....

It's a fairly obvious nod to it if you ask me.

Aaaand this game is terrible.

Really, you don't like it? Have you ever played Snake before?

Woah, YES. This game is surprisingly terrible, considering how much I enjoyed some of the previous Nick TMNT games. Why would characters be moving by default instead of standing in place? And auto-attack feature? Srsly?

Turning around is a serious chore. The turtles just float around on their feet for a second before changing direction. And touching a wall is instant death? What?

I third that this game is terrible. Bad programming isn't very uncommon, but when someone can't even be bothered to make a "game over" screen, and instead just uses the victory screen, that's just plain lazy, and it stinks of misprioritization too, since the graphics artists obviously saw fit to draw five characters in costumes.

Really, you don't like it? Have you ever played Snake before?

I have, and it's much better than this. The great thing about those old-school arcade games is they have no pretense; the graphics don't necessarily look like what they're supposed to be, but they usually give a good idea how to play the game. We understand, for example, that a snake-shaped character can't turn around instantly. We understand, thanks to the difficulty of turning around, that the walls are there to penalize you for failing to do so. We understand you are supposed to hit the little dots; not them, because hitting the walls is no challenge.

This game gives absolutely no indication that it's a snake rip-off. It has nothing to tell you you can't turn around, no indication that you die from hitting the walls, and it's very title implies that the challenge comes from enemies; not terrain that, realistically, poses no hazard--shell; you could switch up candy, kids, and enemies without any gameplay change at all. Coming into this, I was expecting a classic beat-em-up. When I saw the first post, I thought it was funny that the turtles were in costumes, and cool that April was playable for the first time in a TMNT beat-em-up. Instead I got absolutely the wrong sort of game for its series, plot, and graphics. It's worse than Donnie Saves a Princess, and that's saying a lot.

This is the one game that doesn't make me feel guilty about losing. The kids' candy gets saved but apparently the good guys are still sad about it!

Raph really reminds me of the BTTS version of the character there.

hm........where are the turtles' shells??

I was thinking the same - this almost seem like the Nick series will be the first one that they are able to take the shells off... though I'm not sure what to think about this.

After playing this game several times, I am almost certain that it could be duplicated with RPG Maker VX. I can almost see how the coding would work - even the delay in turning would likely be there, since the constant-running function:
"Player: move fwd 1
wait 0.100 sec
loop"
would cause a delay almost exactly like this.

I'm tempted to try making this, but it'd be a lot of work for nothing...

Yeah; you'd have to work hard in RPG Maker to produce something this awful. Now, Game Maker, on the other hand, I could see somebody really poor at that making this.

I really must ask; is there any game from this series' website that isn't a ripoff relying on cheap nostalgia?

As somebody who tinkered with GameMaker during the last decade and made a REALLY terrible fan-game, I think you are right!

In all fairness, however, the old adage of "you get what you pay for" often holds true.

I'm thankful we get to see new artwork along with each new free website game.

I don't think I wanna know why Raph is dressed like a fairy princess... Donatello looks like he's dressed as Donatello or Da Vinci.

I like the 32-bit nod.
I dont like that to play higher than "Easy" I need to unlock it.
I also dont get the game. I have seen April, Raph, and Leo (who seemed to walk over a manhole and Raph popped out). I got Mike and finally got the keyboard arrow to move him, but it's not a quick response so I sent Mikey into a tree. I did the best as Don, who walked around an open street and I got Raph out of a manhole...
But with no real controls other than the arrow keys for direction, I got bombarded with 2-3 enemies and lost (I suppose I walked into them... but there's no attack button. There supposed to attack within range but with 2 Turtles, I suppose I would need to dogfight the enemies by steering away and coming back around)..
The Turtles feel like a runaway train. They move forward and your goal is to fight the character's forward propulsion with clunky arrow responses and no real attack button.

So... maybe it's good I can't unlock higher than Easy... 'cus I just dont get what you're supposed to do and this is a kid's game on a kid's network website.
Glad I didn't spend money to play this lol.

EDIT: Decided to give the game another go. Maybe I was being too harsh in too short of a time?
OMG These controls are HORRIBLE!!

The best I have done yet is 6 candies unlocked with Raph, April and Don.
And I LOST because the Turtle wouldn't respond with me telling him to go the opposite direction from where he was going.

This time I been able to defeat enemies... by more-or-less "dogfighting" around the enemies.
Mikey shoots burgers at the enemies.
He also does appear to wear a shell in-game.
Don mentioned "serenading" enemies and his attacks look like music notes, thus further confirming to me that he's not dressed up as any painter.
But these guys are worse than a tank to steer!

I just played again as Don. Got Leo, killed an enemy and spent a few moments CIRCLING the candy 'cus he wouldn't just walk over it.
And I lost 'cus he walked into a building while I was pressing "Left" to go away from the buildings.

The last 2-3 games I restarted resulting in me crashing into the barrier buildings/trees because they wouldn't respond to the arrows in time to "power slide" into the next direction.
The window is now closed.
Forever.

hm........where are the turtles' shells??

I was looking at Raph in the GameOver screen and thinking something looked weird but I didn't notice the shell was missing... I was switching windows to write my mini-review lol

Weird.

I don't think I wanna know why Raph is dressed like a fairy princess... Donatello looks like he's dressed as Donatello or Da Vinci.

I'm not sure Donatello the artist ever looked like that though...

I love Snake... but I never got a game over as soon as the play screen turned on.
