Let's have some fun and let the guessing game begins.

1. Splinter was a pet rat. (Mirage, 2k3, movie style)
2. Splinter was previously a man. (OT, 2k12 style)
3. Splinter was a man in previous life but got reincarnated as a rat (IDW style)
4. Others (please explain)

Honestly i am either hoping 1 or 3

for some reason despite the premise of the show and the ability to accept the mutations and four turtles i have never been able to accept nor like the idea of human splinter..i have no idea why (but i have no problems with bebop and rocksteady)

even though current 2k12 splinter story is growing on me

I'm gonna go with 3, because that seems to be the route they're taking with Shredder, and I imagine Splinter and Shredder will still share some sort of history.

1 has a better bond to me but something tells me 2 would be the choice in the movie unless they completely toss out all the story from the new show.

Will he be white too? Or rather a white human before he becomes a rat?

and how Danny Woodrburn fits into that? he obviously can't voice splinter, i don't think he is going to be Hamato Yoshi either, he can't do much fighting...
i just don't get it...

Seeing as how the main source of inspiration for this movie seems to be the OT, I'd go with option 2.

i just don't get it...Woodburn could voice Splinter just fine if he has an IDW style origin. That Splinter was mutated from a New York rat. He has no more reason to sound Asian than the turtles do. Danny Woodburn could certainly voice a New Yorker.

I'm afraid Splinter will be a short white midget and have no Japanese ancestory at all.

do you really want splinter to sound like a squeaky new yorker midget?

do you really want splinter to sound like a squeaky new yorker midget?I'm not saying I want it. I'm just saying that there's no logical reason for a Japanese accent if he's evolved from a rat. And if Eric Sachs is some reincarnated descendant of Shredder, it would make sense that Splinter and the turtles are reincarnated, too.

The movie is clearly basing a lot off the original cartoon, so I think Splinter will most likely be a man turned into a rat.

This is my favourite origin in any case, so I'm fine with that.

by that logic then he shouldnt have a new york accent either or any accent and just speak rat english

He might have a Japanese accent if he started as a rat, as he most likely learned english from Yoshi, so he would probably immitate the way he talked like he immitated the way he moved.

What gives you that idea? There's certainly nothing to suggest the former and I think we assume the two characters will have history as that's always been the case but with the casting choices it'd be a bit of a stretch to work that in.

Everyone's hoping the crusty old-ass white dude standing in for Shredder is going to be a reincarnation of Oroku Saki. It could work.

Still doesn't forgive that heinous "Eric Sachs" name. So not clever.

But seriously. People get their accents from the people the grow up around. Splinter seems to always mutate as an adult, and the turtles as children. The turtles could get their accents from television or something. But Splinter? I have no idea...

I'm not proclaiming it, but that's how it sounds to me.

I get the feeling that they're going to go the OT route here but I would really like seeing an IDW-esque thing done.

I'm guessing that they're going the Yoshi route. Personally I hope they go the pet route.
