No, Karai being Yoshi daughter is a completely new idea from the new cartoon.

Karai have never been related to neither Yoshi/Splinter or Saki.

In the Mirage comics she was the leader of the Japanese branch of the Foot, coming to NY to clean up Shredder's mess after his death.

In the 4kids show, she was an orphan that Ch'rell adopted.

Karai is Shredder's adoptive daughter in both 4kids and Nick.

She's also on of Shredder's biological descendents in IDW. He calls her his grand daughter, but there's probably a dozen "greats" omitted.

Karai being Yoshi's biological daughter is certainly one big twist. I still say its too early for her to make a heel-face turn or be sacrificed.

I like the idea of Karai being Yoshi's daughter and being raised by Shredder based on a lie. It's a good twist to the story and really heightens the rivalry between the two former friends. As to what Karai's status will be in season 2 is anyone's guess, but I can't wait to see how she handles everything and if the Turtles will eventually find out what Splinter learned.

They could have easily done that with Pimiko, not happy with what they have done with Karai.

But when you get lemons and all that stuff.

Yup. They should have made Karai/Miwa into Pimiko, and saved the real Karai for a later season.

I doubt anyone at Nick ever read the Image comics.

IDW probably has, (I think Tom Waltz even said he read through them recently), but the Nick writers? Nah.

If Miwa is Karai, than basically she's been in every incarnation Karai's been in, but just never went by the name Hamato Yoshi gave her in this series.

Actually, it's the other way around. Miwa is her original name and was changed to Karai by Shredder. In other incarnations Karai has always just been Karai.

The Karai/Miwa storyline is the only thing in the Nick show that keeps me watching it.
