Apparently its a less than 5 minute cameo where the Turtles accidentally open another dimension, not a full episode.

That was about the Turtles having their first Dimension X adventure though. Although I guess that's where the OT cameo might come from too.
If I understand correctly, he said that there will be a full episode in Dimension X near the end of the season, but there would be some dimension hopping before then. It sounds to me like the cameo will happen sometime during that hopping.

When you say "VERY brief", does that mean any interaction with the OT at all? Like, will both sets of turtles talk with each other, or will it be similar to the dimensional hopping like in that one Family Guy episode where they're in a dimension for a second or two?
Powder

There's interaction on some level, but I don't think it's gonna be much at all. My interpretation of their comments was that Nick Donnie & OT Raph exchange words (for obvious reasons), and the rest are thinking out loud or whatever.

It was mentioned that there would be at least Rob talking to himself...but aside from that, who knows how much screen time
the other 3 will have.

I wonder if they will do the same for the 2K3 series sometime down the line. I'd love it if they did.

I guess they wouldn t bring in all the voice actors if they were only give them one single line...and I dont know where exactly you all got the 5 minutes part from or if someone here just ASSUMED it was gonna be that time period..but 5 minutes is still a lot of time in animation...especially if a whole episode only takes about 23 minutes.

I remember in mid may when it was revealed that Mutagen Man would appear at the end of season 1 and play a part in season 2 that in that same article that the '87 turtles were to apear in a crossover in the seconnd season's's premire. Was that the wrong information or am I remembering this wrong. Until I saw the premire I thought they were to appear if only for a few minutes.

That article you're referring to never said it was the season premiere.

TBH, I'm kind of glad that it's just a cameo. Pretty sure we all know that everyone would be complaining about how they were portrayed if it was a special. Besides, we already had Turtles Forever.

As long as they speak and interact with the Nick Turtles, I'm okay with whatever they do. As stated, I think they wanted this to be different from TF and not make it a whole special.

five minutes is fine. we already had the ultimate TMNT team up/crossover event. i do wonder if they will run into any other familiar faces while dimension hopping.

im glad they made a point to say it would be brief, so when it occurs, people wont be strung up on it. theyve let us know well in advance that it wont be much, so hopefully we all dont get upset if the cameo is like a minute.
im glad donnie/otraph will atleast have a couple lines, just to see how different rob voices each character when theyre right next to each other

I wish it would be a whole episode for purely sentimental reasons but think it will probably make for a better story for them to just meet each other briefly and it will sorta be like we are all back in time for just that brief second seeing our beloved turtles on tv again.
BubblyShell22

Yeah, I agree that the brief cameo is much better than nothing since we already got Turtles Forever, and I don't think Ciro and crew wanted to do that again.

I was also wondering, from a logistical POV how this was going to work. I didn't get far enough into my animation uni course to discover how you put hand drawn 2D and 3D CGI models together without screwing the perspective.

We don't need ALL the voice actors but I'm 99% certain we're getting Barry, Townsend and Cam (and Rob obviously). I couldn't find you the article/interview I got that from though, so don't ask!
I know I'm not the only one who wants to see KMR and James Avery's Shredders meet up...
"Who is this?"
"I am Oroku Saki... but you may call me... the Shredder."
"Nonsense fool! I am the Shredder!"

It was on Facebook, but I'm having trouble digging it up.
EDIT___________
Townsend Coleman:
Had the bodacious privilege to hit Studio A at Nickelodeon in Burbank last week to record a few lines as classic Mikey for an upcoming episode of the new TMNT… what a blast!! Getting to hang with me old pal, Barry Gordon, made it even sweeter!! Cowabunga, dudes!! — with Barry Gordon.

There's also more potential for the 'which series turtles are the best' turd heap to spring up again.

I for one would like for them to try to Turtles Forever better, if only because Nick has a better handle of humor than 4Kids ever did.

The 2003 cartoon is by far my favorite Turtle Cartoon but I’ll agree Nick gets the humor side of it a lot more than 4Kids ever did (4kids were funny, I won’t deny that but the Nick Toon is hilarious)
Anyways I’d love to see a turtles forever type thing, not a complete remake of it, but something similar, maybe they can meet the Original Toon, 4Kids, Mirage, and IDW Turtles this time!

TOONZONE NEWS: I understand some time in season 2, there’s a throwback episode to the original Turtles.
ROB PAULSEN: Yeah! Yeah, we get to have the original group back together. They got the band back together for an episode, so Townsend Coleman, who was Michelangelo, Barry Gordon, who was Donatello, Cam Clarke, who was Leonardo, and I was Raphael in the original show. They got us all together for an episode, and these guys make a quick appearance, but an appearance nonetheless, and it may set it up for doing some other cool stuff.
TOONZONE NEWS: Did you get to have a conversation with yourself during that episode?
ROB PAULSEN: I did, yeah! I think I said a couple of things to myself, which is kind of cool. The truth is that Don and Raph don’t sound all that much different from me anyway, but it was very cool. When Ciro Nieli said that we were going to do this episode, it was great fun just to hear the other guys do the Turtle stuff…it’s nostalgic for me, too. It’s great.
TOONZONE NEWS: Did you guys get to record all together?
ROB PAULSEN: No, unfortunately, we did not record all together because everybody’s got crazy schedules. But I heard them and I talked to them before we did it, and it was very cool.
TOONZONE NEWS: Do you know if the other cast members got to record? Were any of the older cast members able to record with the new cast? I remember how everybody was talking on your live podcast about how they grew up with the Turtles.
ROB PAULSEN: I’m not sure. Something tells me that they did, or maybe a couple of them did. Townsend and Cam, maybe. I’m honestly not sure. We all recorded the original shows together, and to this day, if that option is available, it’s always the better option. At least in my view, I’m much better when I’m around other good actors. They make me better, working with guys like Townsend and Cam and Barry, and Renae Jacobs or Pete Reneday or Pat Fraley and James Avery, and Jim Cummings…these really great actors, working with those guys all the time. They just made me better. it’s unfortunate that that doesn’t always happen because of scheduling conflicts, but the cool thing about doing animation is that you can still do the show and it can still be successful and well-done, even though everybody can’t be together. It’s not like doing a movie where you’ve got to re-light everything, and you can’t shoot a scene unless you have everyone. With the technology they have, it’s seamless, but from a selfish standpoint, it’s always nicer to have the other actors there. I prefer that.

TZN: What can you tell us about this meeting with the 80′s Turtles? Is this meeting a Turtles Forever type of crossover, or a callback in some way?
CIRO NIELI: It’s too bad – I think that came out really early and everybody got really excited because of Turtles Forever. I think people just assumed there was going to be an episode where they’re all hanging out together. We don’t want to do that, we’re not doing that. It was really one of those things where at the time we came up with what we were doing, it was really great and funny, it was almost a joke. We did it and now all the sudden, once it got to press it got back to us, “I wonder what that special team-up show is going to be?” But it’s really just a big cameo more than anything else. We had the original voices and that was great. I guess I would say it was pretty trippy to have them in the booth with the new actors. Hearing them side by side, they are really different and kind of silly.
TZN: So is it a physical cameo?
CIRO NIELI: It’s a physical cameo. They’re there, we will see them.

There's also this one, posted yesterday with Greg and Ciro.
I heard that the original 1987 cast is coming back. How is that going to work?
Well, not to blow it out of proportion – it’s just a big cameo. But it’s great. Without giving too much away – the Turtles get lost in some dimensional portals, and they kind of look into the Eighties a little bit.

While it's confirmed all of the OT Turtles will be returning, its unknown how many additional voice actors will take part since they recorded separately. I would love to see Krang and Kraang together. As for when it airs, I'd say around April-May or so since it seems like the episodes are recorded around or just over a year before they air. This may be the only time we hear "Cowabunga" in this series. Even though they weren' together, we should see some good humor since they recorded alongside the new cast according to Mr. Nieli.

I really hope the entire cast gets to interact with the 80s turtles, would love it if 80s Leo gave 2012 Leo some advice since he's already a leader and 2012 Leo is a leader in training :D
I also hope at some point 4Kids turtles make a big cameo at some point :D

Kinda disappointed in a way that it'll be so short a cameo, but as has been said already - we already have Turtles Forever. It's kind of hard to do that much better than it was already done (though Nick getting the original actors back is one major plus, that's for sure).
And hey, who knows what the future could hold beyond that.
