View Full Version : Retro-mutagen: What will come of it?

Okay we know Donnie is going to develop retro-mutagen in the coming episodes.

This is a concept that was used before particularly in the OT series episode "Splinter No More" Where Donatello is offers to create a way to restore Master Splinter to being human once more. But the effects only last about an hour or so.

So what sort of good can come from Donatello creating the retro mutagen? Also what consequences will come from it?

Somethings I can see is Donatello offering to restore Splinter's humanity with it. After all he's heard his father mourn his lost humanity often enough, why not do something selfless and offer that sense of freedom to his father.

However unlike the OT Splinter who was welcoming of that opportunity. I can see Splinter being firmly against it and telling Donatello to never make such a dangerous offer ever again. He later approaches Donatello and tells his that while he did appreciate his thoughtfulness. But he has grown to have sense of peace with his rodent form and feels his place is no longer in the world of men, but with his sons.

As for consequences I can see Karai becoming interested in it, for the obvious reasons of using it against the Turtles and Splinter... by using it as a bated carrot for anyone who has been affected by the mutagen.

Well, yes, I can see this happening with Splinter too and Splinter feeling conflicted on wanting to return to his original state but feeling that he has a place with his sons. Of course, the good would be that Don would find a cure for Kirby and possibly Timothy himself if that's possible. The other consequence is not only Karai getting ahold of it but possibly Shredder finding it and using it against the Turtles as well, not to mention the Kraang somehow acquiring it. So, yeah, some good can come from this and some bad can too. We'll just have to see how this plays out and how Don makes it.

i think the obvious use of this retro mutagen would be restoring mr o'neil, and maybe even timothy. and could definitely see it being used by the foot and kraang against the turtles

If it's created at all, I think it will only exist just long enough to for it to cure Kirby before being made unusable. Given how mutants have become the series' bread and butter when it comes to villains, I don't see the writers giving the turtles that big an out, even if turning mutants back into their core selves turns out to be harder here than it is typically portrayed.

What if they un-mutate the turtles for an episode, and have them come back at the end? That would be cool!

FoxZerro

I honestly believe that there will only be a finite amount of the retro-mutagen and that it will all be used up in an epic mutant rampage in the season 2 finale. It would be a good reason why so many of the humans who have been effected are unable to get restored back to human form.

Not to mention a mutant outbreak would be the perfect opportunity to introduce the ooze launching backpacks from the you line into the show as a means of administering to the mutants while keeping the turtles out of harms way.

That being said I think having Splinter console Donatello after he realizes he's unable to create the retro-mutagen again with what has already been said above would be a great fatherly moment for him.

That sounds like the plot of 70% of TMNT fanfiction. I'm sure that episode would include a set of recolored girl turtles.

Will most likely cure Kirby and/or Timothy. Hopefully.

The retro mutagen thing isn't new. OT had that for a few episodes (Splinter returned briefly as a human, April became a mutant fish but she got cured in the end) and in Archie (where April became a mutant turtle, and also got herself a cure).

To be fair though, April's fish mutation was the cause of genetic manipulation not mutagen and was reversed using the same device created by Dr. Polidorius which transformed her in the first place

They could let the 80's turtles go after the mutagen in order to restore the 2012 tmnt so they could get some more screen time some day. Granted this will probably never happen but it'd be cool.

I like the idea of Karai dangling the retro mutagen in front of other villains who have been mutated. Spider Bytez, Snakeweed, Mutagen Man if he's ever capable of rational thought. I'd like a modern day Night of The Rogues episode. As Shredder and Krang would say,"So sue me!"

I saw that acne bit from the NYC panel. I wonder if Don was telling Mikey the truth about it,"spreading and spreading and spreading," or if that bit might have been a fib in order to keep Mikey out of his lab in the future. He'll probably develop a treatment or whatever by episode's end. Don seemed to enjoy giving him the bad news a little too much! At least that's what I gathered from his tone of voice. So it's possible that Don's pulling a prank on Mikey in terms of how serious this condition is.

That also could be Donnie teaching Mikey a lesson about taking things from his lab. After all since it's a kids show they aren't going to have Mikey taking something that will kill him. But still Donnie does have a medical kit where he does have "Don't touch, Mikey!" written on it so apparently that is still possible.

Un-mutate Shredder's henchmen. They were better used in the show while they were human. It's also a decent tactical move on the turtles' part to do so. They'd lose whatever extra power they had from being mutated and also now possibly feel like they owe the turtles a favor.

Or possibly hate the Turtles even more since they would essentially be stripping them of their power. That could set up an arc where Shredder/The Kraang remutate them, whether back into their previous forms, or into new, more dangerous incarnations...

Do you think they would prefer to be monsters that can't live normal lives but are maybe stronger or be humans who can still go outside when they want? They were both skilled human fighters already, so it's not like they were hurting for strength in particular.

Hell, they don't even seem like they have their human skills at all anymore. The robot feet are about the only part that seems like skilled fighting post-mutation.

If Don can manage to get this to work, he could possibly de-mutate Kirby and Tim back to normal. It's even possible that he might be able to change every other mutant that changed into a mutant back to normal so him and his brothers won't have to deal with them anymore, *keeps fingers cross for Baxter*.

Obviously Splinter will decide on staying a rat as it has help him in his fight against the Shredder.

I can certainly see it becoming a weapon of the Kraang or Shredder for the season climax. Seems like a fairly natural way to take things, and it's kind of the perfect '87 homage, wherein a Retro-Mutagen gun was also the Shredder's final weapon in the original miniseries.

It just occured to me, we saw a build up with both Chris Bradford and Xever as humans for a few episodes and some myself included particularlly for Bradford that he serves a better purpose as a human( not to mention his fame would cause people to look for him) so perhaps they would be returned to human form and have someone like Tiger Claw take their place. There is also the talk that Bebop and Rocksteady might appear. With retro mutagen we may see both Chris and Xever return to human form. What do you all think?

BubblyShell22
11-15-2013, 03:49 PM
The only way that would happen is if Shredder got a hold of the retro mutagen or if Chris or Xever somehow found it and used it. Not sure if that will play out or not, but we'll have to see.

We all thought that Shredder would mutate them to strengthen his forces but it was an accident that Bradford caused in attempt to escape a stalemate. Kirby O'Neil was likewise unintentionally mutated. They could always be at the right place at the right time and get hit. It depends on the direction that Nick is going. The creators may want to keep them around as human while moving in another pair to thake their place as the mutant enforcers of the Foot. More toys that way and more characters in the picture as well.

He hated being bulky and unable to be a ninja. He did mention that he felt like a ninja again. If Fishface wants to be human again on his own instead of agreeing with Bradford and expresses it afterwards I can see it happening to both not just the one. Besdies for me personally, I would rather see Chris Bradford in Dogpound's place. I have to admit I was surprised by a further mutation of Bradford. Further mutations have been toyed with in the past but nothing was ever permanent.

It also look like next time we see Baxter he will be punished with a mutation.
