No movie needs to be made.

To answer the question, at the least the question I think is being asked -- since the title is broken language and the OP does nothing to elaborate or discuss or even give us context for this discussion -- while fans will certainly watch them, animated films just don't seem as definitive as live actions film, at least, the ones we imagine in our heads.

But, I really do get why people are worried about the new film. Change isn't what's bad, in a sense. But, if there's a major disconnect from the franchise -- you know, from what really makes the characters appealing and the series interesting beyond the passerby's perception of it -- it can be rather embarrassing. That was Batman & Robin, for me. Even in retrospect, though I loved Tim Burton's films in that series, they still felt, once again, disconnected from Batman, as if Burton was purely interested in the shadows and theatricality (and, likewise, Schumacher with glitzy showmanship, neon, and misplaced erotica), but he never really got Batman. The character was just a suit to him. But, on the flipside, TMNT will survive this movie, even if this movie is the equivalent of B&R. It survived TNM and TMNT 3.

TMNT3? There was really nothing WRONG with that one- just the suits themselves made it seem a little off. Unlike some here, I thoroughly enjoyed that one, especially for the fresh story, different villains (come on, Shredder was starting to have more lives than 2K3 Baxter....) and the new setting. Feudal Japan was such a fitting place for them, that it just seemed like they "belonged" there! And Raph and Mikey wanting to stay just seemed perfectly IC to me.

If we want to talk about the franchise surviving something, how about that utterly OOC Turtles Forever? Seriously- the OT turtles in that were just over the top bad- FAR more goofy/dumb/ridiculous than the cartoon EVER was....

When you only have a small window of time to make a joke, you embellish the sh*t out of it. Broad strokes and generalizations are essential at getting a point across quickly. In the case of "Turtles Forever", the "joke"/point of contrast between the OT and 2K3 TMNT was that "OT = Goofy and 2K3 = More Serious". It wasn't supposed to be a note-for-note re-enactment of the original cartoon, it was a broad-strokes snapshot of how people *remember* the OT, and it was entirely to show how much more "serious" the 2K3 Turtles were by contrast. Big difference.

Come on, let's be honest, SO many people, regardless of how long ago they actually watched the OT, saw their depiction in TF and were like, "HAH! Yeah, kinda." It got the point across. Likewise, the 2K3 Turtles then had the piss taken out of them by the overly-serious "Prime" Turtles at the end, who in turn were more serious than the "real" Mirage TMNT had been.

The entire point of the project was to contrast the different versions of TMNT, the 2K3 ones were the "main" ones for this story, so it simply stands to reason the others would be exaggerated to some degree, and I think they did fine with it, especially because to some people that is how they remember the OT, whether their memories are accurate or not. If it was played completely straight, it would have been kind of boring, I think. The OT TMNT were there for a comic relief role and they did get the point across.

I'm just kind of tired of people treating it like blasphemy. TF was fine.

Having recently just re-watched TMNT 3 and watched Turtles Forever for the first time I am in total agreement. The suits in 3 suck and the plot gets boring at times BUT it really is a clever movie and it is true to the types of adventures the Mirage turtles had. It's a lot better and smarter than the sequel although far less nostalgic and iconic. And Turtles Forever... yikes.

PS Can anyone tell me what "IC" means? Is there a glossary of abbreviations somewhere on this forum by the way?

I didn't say it was blasphemy- I was just seriously disappointed by it. The 2K3 turtles were fine- mostly- but their counterparts?! Not at all like the show- which I had watched all the way through only a few weeks prior, and STILL watch eps of on occasion (when I'm working on something for a fic and need a reference point for the particular element I'm playing with). But after the first ten minutes of the "OT" turtles in that (and I used quotes to show that I only LOOSELY consider them the same turtles) I wanted to just watch something else. ANYTHING else! It was so badly out of character it was almost painful! Honestly- those turtles were NOT cry-baby laughing hyenas like it seemed to portray them as. They could be every bit as serious (or at least "playing it straight") as the 2K3 ones- within the limits of the show's tone, anyway.
