I enjoyed the 80's films but I like the animation for the turtles better and you can do a lot more with the films than they'd be able to with the live action ones. I wonder why more live action? Bet they'd get more money with animation.

Since TMNT Part 4 barely even broke even -- and that was CGI animation -- you can rule out an animated TMNT movie ever seeing the light of day for the foreseeable future.

Oh, I thought I heard it broke records, wonder why? Why does the live action films do so much better? You think it'd be the other way around :-?

According to wikipedia (not that what's on there is exactly set in stone) the 2007 CGI TMNT film cost $34 million and grossed $95 million worldwide.
The original movie cost $13.5 million and brought in $202 million.

Personally, for a new movie I would've preferred a CGI/live action hybrid- actors in suits with CGI enhanced faces.

Maybe next time... :)

For movies, I will ALWAYS want live action. The only favorable exception would be claymation, but that would never happen.

$35 million dollar production budget + $25 million dollar marketing budget = around $60 million for TMNT Part 4. With DVD sales and such I'm sure they broke out moderately better than even, but it fell way, way below expectations.

Most likely becuse of the crap storyline it had along with Don and Mike not really being in the movie at all.

Depends on the tone of the film. I had always wanted a CGI movie, and that style was a good fit for TMNT 2007. And if they want to do something wacky, like OT, that'd probably be cool with CGI. But, if you're doing something really grounded, like the first movie, mocap is cool.

I think CG animation offers much more possibilities and less suspension of disbelief when compared to live action. I was very happy with how the 2007 movie turned out in terms of character design and animation. It's a pitty that we'll never see a continuation.

I thought the 2007 movie was okay but I thought the plot was rather generic.

I would prefer animated at this point, however it's highly unlikely it will happen, virtually anything's better than megan o'neil and super vernon.

Nickelodeon had the Rugrats movie which was mixed and feel that the cartoon should remain its own universe with no movie. If it takes five years to develop the first movie, then if the 2014 movie is a success the consensus will be pretty obvious. The popular mind still views TMNT films as live action anyways, though some hybrid animation elements common in contemporary films of its genre are permissible, given how much technology has improved, and people forget that some of the scenes used in the first movie were state-of-the-art for its time. Then again, we're even getting another live action outtake of the first movie, so its pretty clear what direction we're headed in.

Definitely a live action movie, we're overdue.
Gotta keep up with the likes of Batman if TMNT is to build it's fan base and have that turtle power around and going strong for generations to come.

Why is everyone so thrilled about live action + CGI? I prefer live action with people in costums and electronic heads, like the first 3 movies.

I suppose whatever works best. CGI or electronics, which ever delivers the best results.
The first movie is classic and still holds up brilliantly, but those suits weren't perfect. Having CGI turtles is certainly a concern for the new film. Will we fall in love with them or take one look and write off the whole film just because we can't get past the CGI appearance. We'll need Michael Bay to get that movie going to answer that one.
The more real they are the better in my view. To think that they actually existed and walked among us is the effect I want the movie to have. The first movie did that for me, so there is something to be said for that approach.
