View Full Version : Why were robots always weak against water in the OT?

Everytime robots got splashed with water in the OT they immediately stopped functioning and spewed forth electricity everywhere before breaking to pieces. I'm talking about stuff like when Zach sprayed the robot roaches in Wingnut/Screwlooses episode or splashing other robots or machinery with water.
This happened in a lot of other cartoons of the 80's and early 90's too.
Why were robots and machines always break down when splashed with water?

So they would't be overpowered, stupid I know but this is the only theory I have

You do know what something that's electrical (and not specifically designed to be waterproof) does when it gets splashed with water, right? It tends to stop working, and in extreme cases, can explode.
But hey, don't take my word for it. Give it a try - next time you have a bath, drop a toaster in there with you, see what happens...

Why was the show always weak against logic?

I've always assumed the Foot Soldier robots were never meant to be anything too powerful. Remember the episode where one Foot Soldier was given super intelligence by Krang-and it got all the other Foot Soldiers to rebel against him?
Also, notice how so many of Donatello's invention ended up having problems? That's the problem with machines in general-they can break down.

Robots also tend to be heavy and tend to have a high density, which means that they sink easily in water. Electrical conductivity is common sense for those who play a little Pokemon. This can be a great advantage to the Turtles, where water is their natural habitat!

Robots being dispatched by water has to be done by the same absurdity as the intelligence of the bad guys.

No offense but how is it rule of cool if they are weak to one molecule of water
