Judging by whitewashed Colonel Eric Sachs Shredder, and Burne turned into Whoopi Goldberg, I think we dodged a bullet by having no Casey.
Most likely Casey would have been reimagined as The Rock or some other "macho man" from today's generation.

I once had hope for this movie, but Vernon taking Casey's role? That's like Bebop doing Splinter's role.
I don't get why they decided to make Vernon Fenwick a main character. None but the older fans will even know who he is.

Yeah, and they probably get mad about what they did to him >:( Why Vernon? Why not a new camera-man?

Not at all fussed. I could do with a break from Casey "one note" Jones.
At least Vernon could potentially have a character arc here, going from zero to hero.

Tbh, I wouldn't mind having The Rock in a TMNT movie, especially if his movie character would be "The Rock" as well. I mean, come on, The Rock and the Ninja Turtles in the same movie? Sounds awesome.

Right? Since when was he helpful and a good replacement for Casey? To be fair though, I think that what was meant by the person connected to the film who said those things was simply that they filled the void of having another human character with a big role and some direct contact with either the turtles or The Shredder. In other words, there wouldn't be enough plot (whatever god awful plot they have come up with) to plug Casey into it and have it be cohesive and worthwhile.

It's true. Casey wasn't a big part of the Fred Wolf cartoon so of course he wouldn't be in this... "film."

Y'all are nuts if you guys think having The Rock involved in anything makes it even one bit better.
Seriously, enough either that guy. He needs to just stop... everything.
The good news is, the human body can only hold a certain predetermined amount of anabolic steroids, so he's probably due to erupt like an over-filled water balloon any day now. Problem solved.
Also, the first G.I. Joe wasn't that bad. It was cheesy but not awful. I'd put money down that the TMNT movie won't be anywhere near as entertaining as G.I. Joe, even on a "stupid fun" level.
It also won't be as good as the Speed Racer movie. But then again, nothing ever could be.

Well, I'm sure a lot of The Rock fans who wanted him back in the WWE kinda regret that wish of theirs today. So you're not alone in that.
As for Dwayne Johnson, the actor... he's pretty meh. I do like the Mummy movies and The Rundown, though. But when I watch the latter I can't help but wonder how a The Rock and Stifler promo would have turned out. :P

And I know critics used to criticize Hogan's "acting' because he basically just played himself in everything, but Rock comes in an equally limited variety of flavors. God forbid he ever suffered a debilitating eyebrow cramp, his entire career would be done.

It's a ridiculous over-the-top gore/kung fu movie based on an animated movie that was an adaptation of a manga. I'd recommend watching it with a group of friends. It's hilarious. I would recommend trying to track down the non-dubbed version though if possible.

Movies frequently merge characters when adapting from a source material, especially comic book movies.
Look at it this way: a more "heroic" version of Vernon sounds way better that having Casey being some effete camera man.
Not that I have hope for this flick.

Pretty sure that's not gonna happen. I doubt it would work on-screen like it does in the OT and from the sneak pics/video we've seen, it seems fairly obvious that Will Arnett doesn't carry himself that way base on gestures, posture, etc.
To Andrew's point - why would you want that anyway? (rhetorical question - we all know why you want that.)

I don't really see why both characters couldn't be portrayed the way they were meant to be.
Then again I'm still struggling coming up with why a popular franchise stalwarts aren't in the movie while a tertiary character that few remember is now one of the main character.

Vernon is a relative blank slate. This Vernon may begin the story much like the Vernon we know. We've been given no reason to think he won't. But he may actually (heaven forbid ) experience some growth of character, for once. And they're free to do whatever they want with him, because we don't have an expectation for that. Maybe they'll kill him. Who knows?
But until they announce another male lead, I totally expect him to have a romantic subplot. Be it with April, or with Abby Elliot's character, somebody's falling in love, because it's a movie.

Now I realize that double-casting Whoopi and the controversial black-washing of a beloved, iconic character such as Mary Bones might not go over well with certain purists, but I'm hoping that Nic Cage as Jess Harley (and maybe Casey Jones....?) will help ease that pain. Also, Wilson from Castaway as the Turnstone, if the budget allows.

As the 2nd article stated- "William Fichtner recently said that he signed on for 3 films." This is the first I'm hearing of this!!! Yay! Whether the movies are epic, good, bad, mediocre, whatever, this means that there is enough overall interest in the franchise to warrant booking Fichtner for 3 movies. No matter how we look at that- as Turtle fans- that is a good sign that we will have a lot more new Turtley action coming at us for at least 5 more years (or at least 3 or so). We've got an awesome new adult aimed comic book, a new animated show, a new comic book based on the animated show and now 3 movies in the works. If they aren't all perfect, hey, we're loads ahead of where we were 5 years ago.... I for one am willing to give Bay a chance. If I hate it, I hate it, but I'm thankful for the extra attention and potential catalyst that my favorite franchise is getting!
** Also I could see them potentially having Vernon being a love interest in the first movie and when/if Casey comes along, maybe a love triangle thing where April has to choose.... Sounds very Hollywood, not necessarily my thing, but hey.

Not sure why you're hating on me... Apparently optimism is your kryptonite?!? We have no control over who makes the movie(s) so I chose to be happy that there is enough renewed interest in our franchise to warrant booking Fitchner for 3 movies. I don't have to watch them if I don't like them and neither does anyone else. But I do enjoy the extra attention we are getting in the way of the other TMNT outlets- cartoon, comics, toys, etc. the more fans it can bring in (whether casual, or hardcore) the more we will see this renewed interest last. If you can't see that, then you are shortsighted. Whether you think someone is a worthy fan or not is irrelevant, it's your opinion, and has no impact on this movie as a whole. I can disagree with you unsubstantiated comment (you've never even met me, you jerk) but I still am thankful we are both fans, because the more fans there are, the more TMNT we will see.
And if you're not actually a jerk, my apologies, I just surmised it from your uneducated and negative comment. Either way have a lovely day!

You basically just want TMNT "product" for the sake of TMNT "product," no matter the quality or even if it is "mediocre."
That is... questionable. And sends a horrible message as a fan to TPTB that you will take whatever they want to throw out there, no matter how terrible or creatively bankrupt their offering(s) may be.

I never said I want terrible product. Quite the opposite. I said if the movie brings in more fans, hence more product options that is a good thing. The animated show is great the related comic is as well, the Eastman comic is phenomenal. None (or at least not all) of these would be here if the public wasn't showing interest. All these successes have garnered enough interest that movies have come into the works. If the movies are horrible I won't pay to go see them, we all vote with our pocket books. If there aren't new things happening in a franchise it stagnates and we won't get such fantastic updates. More fans spending money translates to more potential options. Not all options will be good, but as consumers we can choose which we support by buying them and which we don't. I said that since Fitchner was booked for 3 movies obviously there is enough overall interest in the franchise as a whole to warrant it. I at no point said " Yay, a trilogy of horrible TMNT movies that will butcher my childhood! I'll blindly buy everything they throw out!" I'm not sure if you're trying to read too much into this to pick a fight or what, but there it is.

Don't speak on things you clearly don't understand. :trolleye::trolleye::trolleye::trolleye::trolleye:
Do you even read your own posts mate?
edit: they are often rude, aggressive and condescending for the slightest of (perceived) transgressions...and then you can't understand why others take that tone to you.
Anyway, I don't expect you to admit this or change just thought I would point out the fact that drawings/insider info etc or not, you are the one acting like a schmuck...consistently.

He's clearly the best choice for onscreen Leatherhead, and I've put together a storyboard based on the Archie origin that I hope makes it to the big screen.....
More than two weeks late on this, and I'm not even sure who or what it was making fun of -- the movie? the fans? everything? -- but god f*cking damn did I love it.
Not having Casey in the movie is a good thing... at least they won't **** him up.

I wonder if Movie Vernon is just in-name only or will he be like his cartoon original counterpart personality-wise. I can easily see him be turn into a outrageously flamboyant sidekick, the more wackier characters the better.

I didn't realize Casey was 60 something years old. Lol worst casting ever, man. Just horrible casting lol. But I agree, no wrestlers.
What about an actual hockey player, or an actor that was once a hockey player?

Well if there's no Casey maybe now there should be no Mikey, Raph, Leo, Donnie, Splinter, April, and Shredder and all our troubles would be over. LOL.

He's probably going to be the comedic sidekick, and we all know what tends to happen to those types in action movies.

They're probably saving him for the sequel, if there is one.
With Casey being introduced in the Nick series it really boggles the mind why they would cut him out of the film and instead dig up Vernon who hasn't been used in 20 years.

Not sure how to feel about Casey not being in this movie. He's one of my favorite characters, so it sucks that he's not in it. But on the other hand, considering how this movie seems to be turning out, I'm happy that he's not in it because they'd probably get his character completely wrong

Most likely as they're using the Fred Wolf series as the main source of inspiration for this movie (which is most likely because that's the most well known version of the Turtles), and Casey didn't really play a big role in that series. Also, most likely that they don't give a crap about this franchise and just want to release the movie and get the money from the Turtles fans, people who remembered watching the show when they were kids, little kids so they can sell them more toys, and horny teenage boys who aren't Ninja Turtles fans but will see the film because Megan Fox is in it.
It's weird when you think about it, the 1990 film was released at the height of the old toons popularity, yet Casey Jones played a major role in the film while he had a minor one on the show. Now we have a show with Casey Jones playing a much larger role and we have a film without him.

This is how I feel now too, really. & the same goes for why I'm somewhat glad they didn't use more familiar/basic designs for the turtles. :ohwell:
