Not necessarily "not caring about" but at least "not interested in".
For me, its politics in general and history. I've never been interested in learning about the War. I know its incredibly important and I should take the time to learn more about it but I just don't feel compelled to.
Same goes for politics. I don't vote because I don't want to vote just for the sake of voting. I could research and all that, but, again, I just don't feel compelled to, even though I know I should.
Anyone else? Anything?

I guess animal rights and the fact that millions of people worldwide have terrible lives(Sub-Saharan Africa, etc).
I probably should feel more empathy in these kind of issues.

I was completely disinterested in history while in high school. It might have been becasue all we did was get lectured and have to copy badly handwritten notes from an overhead projector. In college I became more interested as I actually had to do projects pertaining to history and it was much more fun learning that way.

I don't feel guilty about anything I don't care about or am not interested in, I don't care.

One of them would be school in general. Even though I did fairly good in school, I never really liked school back then, and still don't. I felt cheated by school sometimes since it didn't seem to do much justice to my intelligence. There are times where I feel smart, but I was never able to keep straight A's even though there were classes I had that I just totally aced. Like when I took sequential math 3 in my junior year of high school. I never seemed to break a sweat maintaining an A average in that class the whole year. Then there are those subjects where I had to wrack my brain so hard that I thought it might explode.
Another one would be sports. I wasn't always the best at them, and I could never get into them when I'd watch them on TV. I couldn't get excited about someone making a home run or a touchdown or whatever. I was also on a track team for a little while, and I knew I wasn't the best. I wanted nothing more to just quit the team. So I commend, and have the utmost respect for people who love sports, whether they're watching them or playing them (as long as they're not complete douchebags about sports).

Sometimes I feel guilty for not caring about my family, especially my sister who I have a very strained relationship with.
I don't feel guilty about anything I don't care about or am not interested in, I don't care.
Yeah, pretty much. If you feel guilty, you care.

I'm completely disinterested in the wars in the middle east. Every day you can see on the CNN homepage that people get constantly killed by car bombs and terrorist attacks there. EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Yet people fail to realize this has been gone on for the last 1000 years, its not just "new" that the Middle East is constantly killing each other over religion. It's just that now with the internet and videos we hear about this stuff more often.
They'll be killing each other in the Middle East for the next 100+ years too.

Yes, the thread title is self-contradictory. Perhaps it should have said, "Things You Don't Care About Even Though You Feel You Are Supposed To'.

Well, in that case, politics.

I don't feel guilty about my disinterest in politics. I actually feel pretty good about it because at least I'm not buying into the lies that the politicians always spew out and march to the beat of my own drum. I don't feel obligated to vote because it's a waste of time picking the lies that sound best when they're all just lies anyway. But, yeah, I know I should care about politics, but I just don't. Same goes for animal rights and the environment. I should care, but I just don't.

I understand. You get unhappy with who is in power, then a candidate appears who purports to be a reformer, and if said candidate gets into power, they turn out to be no reformer after all. Genuine reform politicians do exist, but they are exceedingly rare.

Yes, exactly. It just gets old when you hear people promise to change the world and then turn their back on the people who voted for them. Obama is a big example of that and how he lies about everything.

I admit that, being from Cook County, Illinois myself, that I never believed in him for a minute.
But other politicians I can name? There was a longtime Cook County sheriff who was finally voted out-but his replacement was a disappointment. And he was voted out and his replacement was a disappointment. After several tries, someone got in who was finally any good. As for the Cook County Board President, it was run by a longtime party hack who had to leave because he got very sick, and his son was even worse. He got voted out very easily by a woman purporting to be a reformer who promised to make things better-and we fell for it.
Another example was a Chicago alderman who, in an attempt to run for mayor, bragged loudly about what a man of integrity he was. Years later, he would wind up being sent to jail.

Well, Illinois has been known to be one of the crookedest states out there because of the politicians.

Yeah, its a bit of a contradiction. But you can feel guilty about not caring, without caring about the topic in question. You can feel guilty from a moral standpoint but still not care about the topic at hand. If that makes sense. Which i'm not even sure it does now that I just reread what I wrote lol

I never watch the news, sports, or follow politics. I pretty much have no idea what's going on in the world...
BubblyShell22

Maybe that's for the best, DN. What's going on in the world isn't always that good, though I do like when I can see some feel good stories. It's rare, but it's still awesome when they happen.

I only watch the news to get the weather, and that's it. After that, I turn the channel or leave the room depending on if Mom is there.

Ah, I see. I sometimes get the weather via Internet through our local news station's website but that's only when the news isn't on.

Maybe if we'd cared more then 9/11 wouldn't have happened......I mean there's a reason why they're riled up , it's not like it happened w/o a reason.
"Yet people fail to realize this has been gone on for the last 1000 years, its not just "new" that the Middle East is constantly killing each other over religion"
There's a major difference though , back then they didn't have high tech weapons and lot less were killed.

But it probably still could have happened regardless of whether we did anything. And it's not a good idea to go to war when it's not our fight. After 9/11, we had no choice because our country was attacked, and we had to retaliate for that. But when Obama wanted to send soldiers to Syria, I thought that was stupid because it wasn't our business to deal with them.

Your remark reminds me of the severe drought that happened in the USA in 1988, and during that time I visited a hardware store and a white-haired man was ranting about how the Jews were going to make a ton of money by exploiting everyone else for food. I mentioned that story years later to a man who was a farm worker during that time, and he laughed derisively at what the white-haired man had said.

Politics.
I'd probably care to vote or have interest if I knew there were people showcased who wanted to better things for the people instead of push their own agenda.
I just feel like every politician is out for their own gratification. I don't feel like they give a damn about the "common" man, so...why should I give a damn about them? I only care enough to laugh at them when they get caught shacking up with hookers and playing petty games like "stop traffic on the bridge".
I guess my only guilt comes from the fact that I should be educating myself about them and attempting to better things by voting the lesser of the evils.
BubblyShell22

That's the way I feel, SW, which is why I refuse to vote. As far as I'm concerned, there is no "lesser of two evils" where Democrats or Republicans are concerned because they're all out for themselves. I'd be more inclined to vote if the politicians had to follow the same laws we regular people do and didn't get so many perks. The only way you could vote would be to do the independent parties, but the problem with that is that none of them ever get the big votes anyway, so you're pretty much screwed if you vote that way. That's why I just don't bother with it. A big waste of time.

I also care little for the plight of starving folk in places like Africa. I mean...I feel badly for the children, they didn't ask to be born, let alone into that situation.
Every time I see these commercials and such the "parents" have like 5 kids.
"Look at these poor starving children."
Look at them?! how about you stop MAKING them? I know this is a third world country but you MUST know where babies come from. Stop procreating and go.... i dunno...poke a lion with a big stick or something. No condoms or contraceptives? There are other methods if you absolutely MUST shake the bushes.
Just stop creating life and making it suffer. If you can't do that one simple thing...then I'm sorry,,,I don't want to donate or see the commercials.

Ironically, I am reminded of a mass media course I took in college. The professor mentioned that Africans are unhappy with how the news media only covers them when negative things happen such as war or famine or disease. Africans aren't all starving children or child soldiers.

Oh i'm aware of that....but that's probably why I don't care. it's desensitizing. If the only thing that's ever portrayed as negative...it's seen as normal, so why should I change it?
Africa was just an example. It's the one I see the most, but there are many others.

Yeah, I know. Same here. I just don't care for commercials like that because sometimes the funds don't even go to the countries that are meant for them because they get stolen from other people while on the way to the country. At least, that's what Mom told me once.

Yeah, I know that. That's why if Mom is asked to donate something she'll only donate to the places where she knows the money will go to said place like the Salvation Army.

Same here. I donate to local charities and benefits for friends and family. I can see where my money/ items are going. Like blankets and food to the local animal shelter and clothes to the goodwill or salvation army.

That's the best way to do it, SW. That way you know that they're getting the donations and are using them for what they're intended for.
