Of course they're crap, but that's entirely the point. They're camp.

"The Toxic Avenger" came out in 1984 or so, and by the time they made part 2 it was watered down and "cartoony" enough to be turned into a children's television catroon series, "The Toxic Crusaders" if I'm not mistaken. The first movie was pretty cartoonish in and of itself, but there was still tons of violence, nudity, sexuality, drugs and language to make it entirely unsuitable for children.

As if the thought of a toxic waste monster in a ballerina dress who carried a mop wasn't unsuitable in and of itself...

Actually, in part 4, the opening narrator (Stan Lee) apoligizes for the 2 bad sequels.

Stan Lee was involved with Toxic Avenger 4?

HAH! You all thought his bad judgement started with Stripperella! HAH!

But seriously, why would he apologize? Not like he had anything to do with it before...

I think some serious drugs musta been floating around the trailers if Eastman, Feldman, and Stan Lee all decided to get involved with Toxic Avenger 4. Maybe that's how the whole project got off the ground in the first place.

for those who havn't seen TOXIC AVENGER and are wondering about the movie...i have to warn you
it is NOTHING...and when i say nothing...i mean NOTHING like the Toxic Crusaders cartoon.....
Probably one of the most graphic movies i have seen, mixed with nudity, sex, language...
the only thing similar to toxic crusaders is Toxie Himself

Troma is a role model for indepent filmmakers. Even if you disagree with their message, gore, funny/cheesy dialouge, nudity, you have to give them some respect for trying their hardest on a low budget.

On Toxie... The first is the best, then he goes to Japan (Bad News Bears, anyone? heh) ... ahh. I have seen the first 3... Corey Felman, Kevin Eastman, Tom Fulp, and opening narration by Stan Lee? I must see the fourth! The ToxBox is available, the first three films and the Toxic Crusader movie. The fourth is not. Sorry if someone posted this info.

Wow good job bringing up a thread as old as some members here...

This movie does rule, though.

For those who believed 2 and following are "cartoony" and watered down enough for kids, yes, they were as campy, zany as all heck true, but Toxie still did:
- Squeezed a man inside a wheelchair enough for his insides to ooze out before his eyes
- Strangled a man to death with wiring
- Pulped a man's face like a melon
- Smashed two guys' heads together enough to explode
- Sliced up a fish monster into sashimi
- Threw a gangster sumo wrestler to be chopped up, sold for food
- Ripped out a man's intestines, jumped with it like rope
- Erased a man's face

I find it amusing that Fred Wolf films did the cartoon series.

hahaha, that's funny, I have just coincidently seen the toxic avenger the day before yesterday with my girlfriend;)she brought some movies from her father's place for us to watch and we were entertained by it quite a bit;)...never knew there were any sequels;).....I can understand why all these people would contribute to this, they're having a ball!...still in the first movie they were even some very fine images somewhere in the absurdity...

If nothing else, at least we finally have a movie that has Lee, Eastman and Feldman together. Close enough for an apology to the previous two films, right?

Early Troma vs. Late Troma always is fun for compare/contrast, such as, say, "Nuke 'Em High" 1 and 2. The former was actually depressing and frankly freaked me out when I was younger. The sequel, of course, soon shifted to the unique Troma ness we've all know and love, and so forth. Less straightforward horror, but more ironic/snark bait horror, which I frankly don't mind. I assume the same could be said with the Toxic Avenger film series, and the original is on my list to view eventually.

Wonder if Eastman thought about the irony or connection, as many undoubtedly said the same thing with the Turtles and the shift in tone with the Archie/87 series, etc. (Or if they hadn't, it is obvious enough in its way, especially as neither one started with much shlock value.)

Now if only Lee could apologize for "Teenage Catgirls In Heat" (a title that is a lot better than the actual film). I'll never get that hour and a half back.

"The First Super-Hero... From New Jersey!"

[they even had a Marvel comic, is anyone familiar with that series?]

I am aware that Marvel produced a Toxic Avenger comic book series, and I may even have an issue or 2, but I don't remember reading them :( Marvel must've produced them back when they were taking on all kinds of unusual properties during the late 80's/early 90's like Robocop, Gargoyles and Judge Dredd.
