Greetings, everyone!

Hopefully you've gotten over your turkey comas and now you're rested and ready to watch this week's episode. :)

We've seen previous episodes of Raphael being at odds with his brothers giving him a hard time. 'Turtle Temper' being an especially good example... he turned to the one who would understand him best. Well, at least is the best listener of the group.

We've seen Raphael chilling out with Spike countless times in the show - it seems to be what keeps Raphael on a relatively even keel. Whenever Raph's needed to get something off his chest, if his brothers are driving him crazy, or if being stuck underground is giving him cabin fever... Spike's always been there.

Well one may have considered that more of a one-sided relationship there. But now we're going to see that wasn't exactly true. And the addition of mutagen into the friendship is going to take things one step forward - could be good, could be very bad.

So, Spike is now able to communicate and convey his own thoughts about Raphael and his brothers. And if there's nothing to hold him back... who knows how critical he could get of the others' treatment of Raphael. Best buds gotta stick together, you know!

Will the addition of another mutant turtle throw the show into an imbalance?
Could Raphael ever choose between his brothers and his best-pet-friend?
And how could Spike react if he suffers a rejection?

Stay Tuned!

Lol, Raph sounds like he's imitating Hayden Christensen at the beginning of the episode. He even goes like "The Others are holding me back".

Oh man, Raph VS Slash is going to be awesome.

And yeah, Slash is being much more brutal than I anticipated. Don't really understand why he takes off their masks though.

Best episode yet. :D Raph got some much-needed development and the way he protects his bros was sweet and his bittersweet decision to fight Slash. I bet it must've hurt him a little inside to do that.

Leo's interaction with the little girl was priceless. Smiled like an idiot to see something like that happen to someone like him.

And yeah, Slash collecting the masks as trophies does make sense now that I think about it. Did he think Raph wouldn't notice or care if his brothers were gone and he saw their masks on his wrist? I guess so.

Whoa. That was...um, darker than expected. I thought Slash would be an ally. I still hope he'll become one. He wasn't part of the villains in the opener, right?

The B-plot with Leo and the little girl was adorable. Nice to see other background characters and Leo interacting with them.

surprised how violent this one was, the turtles without their bandanas on was a nice touch. Slash was amazing in this version, and I love the fact that Raph feels bad as it was Spike who he cared for. The tea time scenes with Leo and the little girl were funny too.

I'm really surprised at this one, might be my favorite episode yet.

Initial thoughts: Freaking loved it. Freaking loved Slash. Thought it was a great adaptation of the character. I'm glad he is an adversary of the Turtles and not an ally like was rumored (at least for now). Seeing his design in action made it look better. Feldman nailed the voice.

Only complaint is him having two names still. I love the idea that he is a mutated Spike but don't like how they call him two different things. At least Slash named himself instead of Mikey.

Most likely next time they see him they won't call him Spike anymore. Spike is how Raphael saw him when he was his pet turtle, but now that he's evil he won't have that affection for him anymore. I think he'll just be called Slash from now on.

You don't have to come from Dimension X to be brutal. Instead, it was a problem that was started not from the forces of evil but by Donnie himself, quite ironic since he was once voiced by this Slash! That was some wicked fighting by Slash. He captured Donnie in a hurry, taking his bandana along with him that doesn't appear again until the end of the episode. I liked the misconceptions that the humans would mistake for the cannisters, from antique lamps to energy drinks. I liked how Raph coped with the "April Princess" that made me wonder that he was about to be asked how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop. It was the best episode of the series so far that was Raph-centric and this proved that he is some strong dude. The big mystery that we'll be discussing is where Slash will end up next; will the Kraang/Foot capture him? Or will he meet the Turtles again seeking revenge? While not quite as fun as the previous episode, it was still an episode with a good mix of fighting and dialogue. But some of the plot stuff being used is starting to get a bit formulaic, such as certain vintage arcade games with screwups at the start of the episode, and then being reprised later, along with certain magazine/comic collectibles by Mikey.

Overall: 8/10

It was a good episode, but it was also kind of sad. I wonder if that's how Spike/Slash really feels or if the mutagen warped his mind.

First Donnie, now Raph. This just goes to show that the best way to get stuff off your chest is through a journal and not someone who could potentially misinterpret your frustration as a reason to hurt or going after the person/people your upset with. That's just my option though. ='x'=

This Episode... WAS F*#KING PERFECT! :D :D :D OMG

The amount of times I fanboyed was unbelievable and SLASH... Man, what a great villain! Seriously, he's my second favourite only to The Shredder! :)

Where do I start? Well, first of all: this was a perfect Episode for Raphael. At one point I was getting disappointed because I thought they were gonna do the whole 'Temper' development thing again, but they quickly turned that around and made it into a fantastic arc for the character (Up there with the best Raph/Casey Stories!). The redemption was beautifully handled.

I'm so glad they also didn't forget about the other turtles and found a way to tie them into the main plot almost seamlessly. Leo's search for the mutagen and the Scene where the Raph Vs. Slash fight breaks into the little girls house was the most hilarious thing I've seen so far from the show XD. Speaking of fights, That has to be the most brutal battle yet... And I loved every second of it! The tension, suspense and drama made for an incredible sequence that's up there with The Gauntlet's ending.

Finally, I loved the resolution with Splinter's message at the end; Not dwelling on what has been lost, but instead looking at what you have now.

One of my absolute favourites: "Slash & Destroy" is a (10/10) IMO! :D

Or just that even the best people can unknowingly create their own personal demons and struggle to overcome them. What Timothy/MM was to Donnie, Slash was to Raph in a way.

Absolutely FANTASTIC episode. Did not disappoint one bit. Slash was freaking PSYCHOTIC and I loved every minute of it.

I loved just how big of a threat he was. Not only could the Turtles only barely come close to tiring him out, but he destroyed each of them in a matter of seconds. Plus, the whole thing of him being Spike made Raph hesitate and try to reason with him in a situation where he just wasn't getting anywhere. Slash truly had complete control of the fight until Raph lured him with his rage. Definitely some of the best and most dramatic action in the series yet.

To sum it up, it gave Raph some good development while introducing an awesome new version of a classic character with plenty of action and drama thrown in. This is why I love this series. Can't wait to see more of our spiky friend in the future. :D

How did Slash know how to speak perfect English right away?

Probably the same reason he had spikes all over him and went to his adult size right away. And the same reason mutagen double-mutates Dogpound into Rahzar.

The mutagen has no rules in this show, it does whatever the writers want it to for the episode.

Man I loved this episode! Feldman nailed the voice. I'd always imagined Slash to sound menacing before the OT Slash episode aired in s4 when I was a kid and this auditory portrayal just blew me away. I'm not saying that Fraley did a poor job in the old show. That character was always one of my favorites, but it's like Feldman heard this voice in my head and brought it to life. Hope that makes sense. I suppose you guys would compare this type of thing to going to see a movie based on a book and seeing the characters likenesses mirroring those in your imaginations.

Can't wait until this episode is added to my video library on amazon. I'll certainly be rewatching this one. Loved the Leo and little girl scenes. Anyone know who voiced the child? I'm wondering if it is Sean Astin's little girl. That'd be neat. Also loved the Raph/Slash battle and can't wait to see more of this new turtle.

You know who I hope Slash goes after eventually? Hope he goes after SpiderBytez. That guy really got under Raph's shell and I'd love to see Vic's hairy behind handed to him by this powerhouse.

Awesome episode, probably my favorite so far.

As soon as Slash started beating up on Mikey (the first time) I honestly felt concerned. It was like "Holy crap! That's freakin' brutal!".

I'm so glad they didn't kill off Slash. Hoping he sticks around as a solo villain and doesn't join the Kraang or Shredder. If he does, he'll become both a repetitive and nonthreatening villain like Dogpound (before he became Rahzar).

Compare the battle damage of the Turtles here back to, "The Gauntlet" of Season 1.

They had the exact same battle damage due to reused renders..

The episode was pretty good. It felt a little like a filler episode, but still good nonetheless. Seeing the turtles without masks was cool, and the scenes with Leo and the little girl were really cute and funny. Definitely a better Raph episode than "Turtle Temper" was. Slash is cool...but I'll miss Spike. Too bad he's going to be a villain now, though. His friendship with Raph was really cool to see.

He took the mutagen to keep Donnie from using it so he wouldn't blow the lair up, the canister fell after he slammed his door after Mikey told Raph they had to clean up the mess that Raph said was Donnie's fault, so therefore he should be the only one to do so.

So in theory, Slash could basically show up at anytime in the season to exact revenge. I wonder if that's what will happen.

Theories for next episode with him:
- Slash feels like he has abandonment issues after he fell thinking Raph didn't care for him like he did for his family.
- Slash will go on all out revenge one more time before becoming an ally, but sacrifices himself (either go back to Spike or dimension x(?) or disappear) to go with all the hype of him being an ally
- he bakes everyone apology pizza
- Slash vs Leatherhead
- someone confuses Slash for one of the turtles
- Slash frames the hell out of everyone.
- none of these
I'm hoping next episode with Slash has closure Raph had to deal with a bit of a loss and maybe he feels guilty for Slash for turning out to be a more extreme and agressive version of himself.

Interesting about Max is that he enjoys episodes that progress April's character and the whole shipping plot WAY more than any episode centred on the Turtles.

Even so, I'm disappointed by just how rushed this review was. "Plot was too thin"? And then he never explains why! I normally don't care about the actual ratings but 8.0 is WAY too low...

I was personally expecting an 8.5, but Max is a guy that thoroughly enjoys the main plot of the story, which as you stated is April. This was an episode as stated was still a bit more filler than story for the time being, pretty dark and gritty, and we went from April getting back together with the turtles to her being no where to be found. So again not following the main plot line.

That said 8.0 is still the equivalent of 4/5, most people would dream of that.

But still, I think this episode should have gone before Mutagen Man Unleashed so that the April could be more followed on for the next 3 of 4 episodes. (I say 3 out of next 4 because I know what episode 8 is based around.)

They showed a clip of it at NYCC, which was still in post-production mode at the time. Because so, all the episode production information was listed on it and for episode listing, was listed as "Episode: 208" which would mean Season 2, Episode 8.

They showed a clip of it at NYCC, which was still in post-production mode at the time. Because so, all the episode production information was listed on it and for episode listing, was listed as "Episode: 208" which would mean Season 2, Episode 8.

Good catch on that jth. Just went back and watched the NYCC panel - can't believe I missed that.

I kinda like the story when April is not in it :ohwell:

I have more enjoyment in filler than her plot to be honest.

Pretty much. I've liked every episode so far.

Season 1 had a few "Meh" episodes like Spiderbitez, the Cockroach, and the first Timmy/Pulverizer episode, but every ep of Season 2 has been great so far.

That was a awesome episode it had good character development for Raphael, funny subplot with Leo and the mutagen canister, introduction of Slash all roll up it a kick ass episode for season 2. Liked what they did with Slash he quick, strong, stealthy and smart not to forget BRUTAL and loved and felt sad that even after all that Raph still try to save Slash from falling and I REALLY HOPE that snaps Slash out of it and he becomes a ally to the turtles like Ciro and Corey said. Who knows maybe this Slash will follow his IDW comics incarnation where was a villain first then become an ally. But anyway LOVED this episode:D:D:D

Well, I gotta agree with the rest of you - this episode was awesome. Slash looks great in action! I love how much bigger and stronger he is than the rest of the turtles, that's how it should be. Can't believe they went full-on evil with him though, that was a nice twist. I bet he'll come back pissed at first, but end up being their ally eventually. Guess there's no doubt about it now though - after this and Mutagen Man, it's obvious the mutagen can mess with one's head.

- Nice to see turtles without masks. It's amazing how different each model looks, you don't even need the gear to tell who's who.

- I also like seeing the turtles get the snot beat out of them. I really love the battle damage especially, and how Raph administered some first-aid on the fly. Really lends some suspense and intensity to the action. In the OT I remember them getting knocked down, but that was about it - they always returned home unscathed, like in every other cartoon. This show though... jeez, Raph checking to make sure Mikey was still breathing - that's pretty dark! Good stuff. :D

- Gravelly Cory Feldman voice is kickass.

- First shots of Raph's bedroom, can't wait to get some close-ups of that. Funny that he has a drum set. My daughter (five) has a set, and every time she gets sent to her room she rage-drums in there for a few minutes. I can kind of see Raph doing the same thing.

- And a little sad to see Spike go.

Another enjoyable episode.

Liked:
- Leo's wild chase to get the mutagen cannister
- great sequences with leo hiding or interacting with humans in the city, love that they were able to fit that in as i've been very vocal about the lack of humans populating the city in the past. i don't think they need to focus on it a lot but when they are able to highlight it every so often like shown in this ep, it makes the world feel a lot more real and lived-in. So yeah it really pleased me that they addressed that.
- spike's design, voice and combat prowess, he's a lot of fun to see in action
- turtles without their masks! always dig seeing that
- some brutal fights, with raph and leo getting in some good hits. probably one of the most brutal since the turtles encountered Shredder in The Gauntlet
- spike taking the turtles' bandanas as trophies, tying them around his arm
- got to see Raph's room a little closer. I'd like to see Leo and Don's room now, as I think those are the only ones that haven't been explored very well. Oh and Splinter's, I doubt he lives in the dojo :P Or does he?

Not-so-much:
- formula of New Mutant Introduced/Fight New Mutant/Mutant Escapes at the end is starting to be overused. I love seeing new characters but would like to see more interesting arcs in the episodes. At this point we have a pretty big collection of mutant enemies in the wild.
- yet another re-use of the pizza guy. Oh well, can't win em all :P It was a pretty cool sequence. And he has good taste in music.
- struggling to come up with any other criticisms :P

I'd rate this one somewhere around an 8/10.

P.S. - I now have a growing wishlist of fights/encounters I want to see. The #1 right now being Leatherhead / Slash. Would love to see these two big bads go at it

No doubt. I was just thinking earlier, that all these aliens, mutants and ninjas suddenly running around NYC might be a good reason to introduce a certain smirking G-man...

All I wanna know is where do the escaped mutants go, is there a mutant motel or something? You cannot tell me that nobody's seen Snakeweed or Spiderbytez hopping round. And Slash too. Guy's going through buildings like Mr Incredible.

I nearly wept at the episode. So, so good. So much mortal peril.

Is it just me or has, after the 1st two episodes, this season straight been on fire? Every episode has been from great to superb.
I think when you're revamping or starting a new show from scratch, the first season tends to be chocka with introductions to settings and characters. Gets a bit tedious when you know (or think you know) everything and everyone.

They've done that now and with Nickelodeon giving the team more freedom, they can push for darker, grittier, more intense storylines. I don't think it'll get as dark as I believe the Mirage comics were (I have no experience of them - please excuse any assumptions that I'm incorrect with) but I reckon they'll try their hardest to get as close as a cartoon can.

OOOOhhh boy, this episode was so much fun! I'm a fan of the dark stuff and Slash tying the turtles' masks around his arm like trophies was just freaky! I knew when I heard his voice that he was gonna squick me out. Glad to know I was right! And it just gets creepier knowing how something THAT big can sneak around so quietly . . . and copy voices . . . and beat you to a pulp . . . and how relentless and focused he is going about it . . . But he could still turn good. I think he's so single minded (delusional) that it's going to take a third party or new friend to make him realize what he's doing is wrong. If not, I think he's the type to only get more and more obsessed and possibly become buds with the Shredder. They seem to share the same philosophy now.

And i love Leo and the little girl! It was so funny seeing Mister Serious having a cute little tea party with her! She was all like, "You've got to stick out your pinky Mr. Turle! Geez, haven't you been to a tea party before?" And He's all like, "Um, I'm a turtle. We don't have pinkies." He is so sweet. LoL, and he promised to bring the tea next time! AWWW! Speaking of little girl's, I like how the city looked bigger and more populated! It didn't seem like empty houses all around.

The ending was touching as well. It tied in to how Splinter lost his loved ones but was able to keep going thanks to his new family. Very strong episode!

Loved this episode. It was a great episode for both Raph and Leo. Loved Raph's realization that his brothers are important to him and he doesn't want Slash hurting them. Also loved Leo's solo adventure to get the mutagen canister. His tea with that little girl was freakin' adorable! I melted when I saw that, and I already have a plot bunny for a new fan fic concerning Leo and the girl. I also loved the end where Splinter told Raph to focus on the ones he had in the present and to not dwell on who he's lost. That was great. Feldman's voice was perfect for Slash, and he did a great job. Overall, a really good episode.

And, no, Slash's mutation didn't remind me of Don because Don looked different from Slash altogether.

That...was... AWESOME!!! This entire episode was just incredible. And Slash was handled very nicely, and the final fight between him and Raph was one of the best fight scenes yet in this show, right alongside the Shredder fights in "The Gauntlet" and "Showdown". And I liked that he could smell mutagen and inmate Leo's voice. Can't wait to see him again! :D

The Leo sub-plot was cute as well. "Bye, Mr. Turtle!" :tlol:

hi guys, I just saw the episode, but I was a little disappointed by it.
while I liked slash in his appearance(personally could live without these huge sharp things on his torso and his whack looking snout but enjoy his claws, they are really awesome in my opinion) I found the episode's happenings too boring...I mean the guys just try to retrieve another ooze canister again.slash is the new thing here and they just fight for most of the episode(I thought the choreography here didn't excite me anywhere as much as the last two episodes' fight scenes did) and at the end he simply disappears off screen;(...
I was surprised how cold splinter seemed in the beginning towards his son and pupil...I guess he was pissed by his attitude a bit;)...
it felt to me like there was nothing really to gain from the story this time..
except the information that a huge mutated turtle is now cut loose running around somewhere in new york.
hope his next appearance will be much more interesting.I wondered why he was so mean spirited at all..I mean I can't argue the characters give information on that question in the episode I just still cant believe that thats all...
oh well, you can't win em all every time.
Im glad though that most of you seemed to enjoy it very much so.

If you had a good eye, in Raph's bedroom was a set of drums! I always thought Mikey would be the drummer.

The last time any Turtle played an instrument was on the Next Mutation episode, Good Dragon, where Mikey messed on the organ.

This was the only episode I haven't loved this season. Leo's subplot was nice, but the main story was thin and totally predictable. And it doesn't count as "character development" for Raph because let's face it, Raph doesn't develop. He seems ok most of the time and then occasionally he flares up and it's always over the same dumb stuff. Which is why it's more fun when Raph doesn't flare up.

So anyway, yeah, I was hoping this episode would surprise me somehow but it became the standard Raph emo-whiny-stomping-around-for-no-reason-oh-no-wait-I-love-my-brothers-really stuff. There were no surprises at all.

well given raph was pissed at mikey for ruining his comic and leo told raph to chill but raph told leo that he always stick up to mikey and when raph met slash he thought it'd be a awesome idea to have a own team group but what raph didn't know is that slash wanted to kill his bros and it made raph kinda sorry for what he did to his brothers and stuff.

yeah, part of y slash wanted 2 kill them was cause of raph going on about how they treated him 4 several yrs but at the same time, I think raph going on about slash being evil, etc was wrong cause if u treat some1/something like a monster/evil/psycho, that's wat they will become, so in the end, it might bring about worse attitudes from slash but depends on how slash thinks of raph after that last bit of the fight

Oh my God, Oh my God, this episode was dark, brutal and intense, I was sitting at the edge of my seat. Last week I said that Target April was my favourite so far but this episode just topped it, I loved it.

Slash, he was brutal, creepy and Psychotic, Cory Fieldman did a fantastic job voicing him
When Slash beat up Mikey the first time, it was so brutal, it was hard to watch and it scared me.
Mikey and Donnie were so brave trying to help Raph take done Slash even though they were badly injured.
Raph vs Slash was epic also brutal.
I loved how some of the background music was played throughout the episode, it made it intense.
Leo subplot with mutagen canister was funny.
I laughed out loud when Mikey head exploded.

Felt sorry for Raph losing his pet/friend but Casey will be his new friend soon.
I wonder if their be a new pet soon, maybe Klunk for Mikey.

Liked the episode, brutal and fun. Slash was great, Corey was great, the streets of NY are getting more lively with more background characters (with better detail, to boot), great fight scenes, a simple but effective plot.

Real quick on the IGN review, I don't... get why people act like 8 is the equivalent of a 6 or something. 80 percent out of 100, that's, what an A-? B+? Normally, I find myself disagreeing with IGN (though, usually for games), but since when is a high B a bad score?

I thought we learned that from the A team and B team episode.

I've seen people give others crap for giving a great movie 9.5, "WHAT!? THE MOVIES FLAWLISHFUKYOU!"
I mean, what's the point of writing a review if all people are going to do is focus on what score you gave it, right? XD

Amazing episode. Slash was a heck of a character... he even seemed older than Raphael in some ways. Like, later teens or early twenties. The fight scenes were absolutely evil... I would hate to see Slash team up with any of their enemies. Slash and Razhar would beat Tokka and Razhar any day. The amount and detail of the bruises and injuries was really increased compared to previous fights.

The quality of the animation seems to improve more and more each episode. :) Splinter didn't look so bulky in this episode... his neck was thinner, and he wasn't so barrel-shaped.

There's so much that has already been said about this episode... Tea time with Leo was great...anything I add is just redundant. But at least the poll's Finally up now. :)

loved this episode. reminded me of a horror movie. slash dragging mikeys body, raph walking towards slash with the knife.

loved leos side quest, added some humor to the darkness while still being interesting. and then tied together. really liked how they had leo interact with the girl, one, it was kinda funny, 2, its a new human character.

loved how they played this out. raph going off alone with slash, while his brothers dont know. slash takes out one before the others even know he exists. then blatantly takes out another in front of raph. that scene of mikey being beaten was brutal. then leo doesnt even find out until the end and love how slash mentioned something about having waited to hit leo.really shows how much he had listened to raph.

liked how we saw 2 of them without masks. just for the hell of it.

liked how we finally had a lasting injury. weve seen the bruises before, although they looked worse this time, but they have go away the next scene. here, they actually treated donnies arm, and left the sling on in the final scene. just some continuation thing that i liked. i know it wont be slung in the next episode, but still.

This episode Slash and Destroy it's pretty dramatic with a little bit of cuteness(Leo and the little girl :D) Slash was pretty mean by beaten Donnie and Mikey so hard and later he did the same with Leo. Slash's fight with Raph even Mikey was serious by been worried about Donnie.

Slash eventually come back, I hope as an ally because at the end he knew that Raph wanted to help him. Raph's loyalty to his family has no limits.

Loved to see Raph's room. He had a drum set. I would love to see Leo's, Donnie's and Master's Splinter's bedrooms.

This was a really good episode but there is no reason for Spike/Slash to have been evil in the first place.

Wasn't OT Slash just misunderstood and over defensive? I have the DVD but haven't seen his debut episode for awhile.

Also, just a funny nitpick...the ooze breaks open falling off Raph's table but bouncing around the streets its fine. For the most part, the ones theyre looking for even survived falling from the Kraang ship.

True, but the reason Slash's character was always liked was because he's insane and a maniac. You don't know what he's thinking. If he didn't have that going he'd just simply be there.

I hope you mean Archie Slash. The OT Slash just wanted his palm tree.... so it's not really all that hard to know what he's thinking. He was mostly violent cause he didn't know any better. It was his first day so to speak. That's what bugged me when they called him dumb in the second episode... they were acting rather dumb themselves in Turtle Tracks.

I really loved this episode. There's not much to say about it that hasn't been said, though. Loved the Raph/Slash stuff, thought Leo's solo time was hilarious, and dang were those fight scenes brutal! I appreciated that Spike renamed himself as opposed to Mikey doing it.

And to answer the person how little kids handled it, I actually got to watch with my whole family, which included my 2 year old nephew, and he was pretty into it and didn't seem scared at all. Normally I prefer to watch my "silly cartoons" by myself, but we were all together for Thanksgiving, so it was interesting watching with my parents, older sister, and nephew. ^_^;;

When the little girl having tea with Leo told him to put out his pinky, my dad blurted out "But he doesn't have one." before Leo did. He also likes "the rat dad" in this version, but he prefers the OT TMNT cartoon to "this claymation show", lol.

Lastly, 80% is an A- now??? Holy crap, did I go to school in the wrong decade... When I was in school it was the lowest B possible. o_O

This episode was a great mixture of light and dark. If the scenes with Leo after the mutagen weren't involved with this episode, this would have been felt like a story our of the early Mirage comics. I loved all of the dynamics involved, and I'm glad Raphael had such a powerful episode.

Oh ya the palm tree. I remember now. Well Im not saying Nick Slash has to have the same personality and I guess you can be born evil. You don't necessarily need a reason.

Also did anyone find it odd Raph tried to save Slash from falling off the roof? I understand being sad that he lost his friend but after what he turned into and had done to them did he really think he could change him?

While my least favorite Turtle Raph really needed this episode. I'm very glad Slash was evil lol its kinda funny, while the method is totally different both Slash's are brainwashed. IDW by the scientist to hunt the Turtles and then turns on his creators. And is defeated by a stab in his neck/shoulder blade.

Nick, he is told by Raph how useless they are and how they aggravate him since Spike is who he confides in when he's angry. So in a way yeah Poor Spike just didn't know any better and does what he believes is right.

Both group of Turtles agree that they can't do nothing for him.

As most of you I really really loved the episode. So much darker than I was expecting, so that was a pleasant surprise - and the fighting was brutal! I hope that Slash continues to be a villain - he has a serious grudge with the Turtles and it would take quite a twist to make him an ally

I liked Slash saying "Been looking forward to that for a looong time" when he beat up Leo. It seems like he has been really p*ssed at them (but it makes sense, with him only seeing Raphs POW for many years)

the only thing that would have made this ep even more awesome - if Slash had been taunting Raph more, using some of the stuff he's probably said about his brothers when he's been spilling his guts to Spike. That could've been a way to dig even further into Raphs anger and loneliness-issues. I hope we'll see some of that in that next episode that features Slash.

I love how Slash looks, but man that episode was hard to watch for me.. seeing the turtles getting beat up like that, especially Mikey.. man, I did not like that at all.. Raph is a dick.. he gets mad at mikey for gettin a little pizza sauce on his mag but then he crushed mikey's mint in condition comic in the squirrelanoid episode. dude looked like he was on his period, he was fine all those episodes and suddenly he is over the top angry at nothing..

also this lame ass splinter, is he ever going to do anything?? season 1 he didn't do sh!t, he only stepped up in the last episode cause April trolled him.. and this season he hasn't done anything either. Hopefully when Slash will eventually come back to the lair, Splinter better step up and whoop his ass..

This is one thing that never made much sense to me in Nick. Splinter is not an old dying man here (like in Mirage, OT, etc.), he is healthy and much better fighter then the turtles, yet he sends his sons to fight HIS battles with the foot... Why? The writers really need to have a good reason for this, or else the whole series is a huge plothole.
In both Archie and IDW (especially in Archie, when he was also drawn as a lot younger) he is healthy, and totally the part of most of the battles.
Splinter was really old in Mirage, he had a reason to send his sons, for a one time revenge. In Nick he just abuses his children all the time to do the dirty work releated to him, because: a.) he can, no reason b.) he is an asshole c.) possible plothole. Pick your choice.

even the older splinters in the original and the 2003 show put more work in.. this guy just sits in his room and does god only knows what.. he found out that Karai is his daughter but has done nothing at all about it!! what the hell is he waiting for? now that Shredder is away, now is the time to try to talk to her and convince her. Also there is Mutagen all around the city and he doesn't seem to care at all.. being a rat it should be easier for him to track it down and help the turtles in finding the canisters.

half of the conflicts they face, is not even their own! it's all Splinters mess.. like the Shredder for example.

as for Raph's character, he was fine the whole season, yeah he sometimes likes to pick on Mikey but you can see he does it with love.. this episode I just felt like he was over the top angry for no reason.. I did not get this feeling from him before. like in the spiderbytez episode i can see why he was angry, this time it just felt unjustified..

also when he said "you guys always side with mikey" that's not true.. it's always the 3 of them making fun of mikey..

I think Splinter not wanting to go out from the sewers is likely a weak explanation for his absence, which was needed for the show to focus more on the turtles, and for stretching the Miwa plot, so they can always set up the major events for the ending episodes of the seasons. For example Karai will probably find out about her being Splinter's daughter at the ending Eps of S2, and she will have some decisions to make. They should have done it other ways, really (like Splinter being too old)... Unless they have a logical explanation for it. I mean sure, the show has absurd and humorous situations, and wierd stuff happening, but those are minor things, and so far they took the main plot points seriously, so...

I'm pretty sure they aren't trying to make Splinter anything more than a guide in this show. Someone they can go to for advice but still overcome their problems themselves. Just a guiding force if you will. Again though, I was blown away by this episode. It's exactly what I've been waiting for in a Raph focused episode. Just amazing.

Great episode. Why didn't Leo notice Mikey and Donnie were no longer with him? He went on his mutagen canister quest without even wondering what happened to the rest of his team, sans Raph. I found that a little odd. But otherwise awesome episode, was surprised to see maskless turtles and how beat up they got- didn't think nick would go there- cool.

Slash was awesome! Corey Feldman's voice worked perfectly. This episode really had me on the edge of my seat! :tgrin:

P.S. - I now have a growing wishlist of fights/encounters I want to see. The #1 right now being Leatherhead / Slash. Would love to see these two big bads go at it

Wow, this episode was EPIC!!! Much more violent than I was expecting as well, I didn't think Slash/Spike would turn so quickly. It was amazing though, finally a strong Raph episode!

Also, LOVED the tea party scene. Provided some much-needed comic relief to this otherwise quite dark episode.

It was misguided. But intent to kill someone over it is kind of is evil. He knew exactly what he was doing despite his translucent, short-sighted mentality and didn't care at all for their lives. He viewed them as dead-weight, not sentient people that Raph would care about if they were gone. Having no remorse for your victims is something that is can be considered evil.

While I'm not sure if they are putting as much thought in it as I am, I feel like there is a deeper and perhaps darker reason for his behavior and that very well may include that he is sort of an a**hole. When April guilts him into helping out, I got really angry at his character and I think that was the writers showing that they recognized the plot hole and that maybe they have an explanation for it at some point. There is a Splinter thread around here somewhere and this aspect of the Nick Splinter is addressed further.

Man, I really loved this episode. And Slash is fantastic! I really want his action figure if the scale is allright. I'm hoping he's not going to be small like Leatherhead.

But I didn't like the clumsiness of Leonardo in this epsiode, and the unrealistic tea-time moment. Why does a child react on a mutated Turtle that way?!

The other thing I don't like is that the Turtles have really much (impressive) damage during the fight with Slash and shortly after, and when they are in their lair, all the big damage has dissappeared...

And I don't understand how a relative small turtle like Spike could mutate in a monster like Slash. I mean, Spike was a little bit bigger than the Turtles when they were normal unmutated Turtles. It has made more sense if a snapping turtle would become Slash. And by the way; I miss Spike already... I got four Turtles myself (you can guess their names hahah) and I loved the relationship between Raphael and Spike...

Definitely evil in context, but Slash is not irredeemably evil. He's short-sighted because of Raphael would use him to vent his frustrations, so that's all he knew. If Slash had a less aggressive owner, would have have affected his attitude after his mutation? I think so. And who knows, maybe a side-effect of the Mutation is a form of psychosis that leads to violent behavior. The only non-violent mutant we've seen so far is Pidgeon Pete.

I noticed that....If the majority of the time Raph talked to Spike was about how annoying his brothers were...than it's kinda Raph's fault in a way.....

In Nick he just abuses his children all the time to do the dirty work related to him, because: a.) he can, no reason b.) he is an asshole c.) possible plothole. Pick your choice.

I don't see it as abuse. I see it more as he is giving his sons the freedom to explore the world beyond their home, and establish a place for themselves in the fabric of human society. The world beyond the sewers doesn't interest him because it reminds him of what he has lost and it just doesn't hold anything for him anymore. So he remains in the sewers so someone is there to protect their home and serves a teacher and guide to remind them of who they are if they start to lose their way.

The other incarnations of Splinter also remained home much of the time, but they went out with their sons for situations that had lots of serious events going on. And we may see that further in this season.

Yeah, like I said earlier in this topic, Raph unknowingly created his own demon through all his time spent with Spike. Slash pretty much is a culmination of his anger, need to fight, and desire to just do things solo. No love or appreciation for anything besides his own needs.

It apears that the mutagen taints the mind bringing madness with the advanced physical form. That would explain the lack of good mutants. Mutagen Man is not that bad of a guy only his mental state was driveen mad with his new form. Spike automatically becoming edgy and violent upon mutation was pretty much the same. The question that brings up is the turtles and Splinter did not become violent upon mutation. Could that be due to Splinterks discipline training from his years of training prior to his mjtation and teaching it to the four turtles?

IDK.....pigeon pete was pretty nice for a mutant

the only good guy that mutated and turned evil was Timothy.

everyone else was more or less already evil XD

Leatherhead was tortured so he has a good reason to be emotionally unstable.

and the roach-terminator was trying to get revenge on Raph for almost killing him! I'd say that's every bugs dream actually XD

Evil's a strong word. I'm pretty sure you can only apply that to Krang.

Even Shredder's not what I would define as totally evil. If he was, he would not have saved Miwa. Yes he's stolen her and used her against Splinter but he could've left her to die.

Timothy's just messed up in the head. And Kirby is like the monkey, I think he'd only be violent if he was attacked.

Well, kids are pretty easy to convince, so I can understand the girl's reaction to Leo. She could just pretend she imagined him and even if she told someone, they wouldn't believe her because she's a kid and kids are prone to exaggeration. Still can't wait to write that fic about her though. She's sweet.

The reason the damage mostly disappeared except for Don's sling is that it's a cartoon. Things like that happen all the time.

I agree that it's hard to believe Spike could mutate into Slash that way, but the mutagen is unstable and unpredictable, so I guess we're just supposed to go with it. I'm glad you have four pet turtles and like them so much. It's nice to have something like that to hold onto.

I don't think it's that hard to figure out. The turtles were exposed to a human and turned into humanoid turtles.

A normal turtle was in contact with a human turtle and thus turned into a humanoid super turtle. IDK, it makes sense to me at least.

very, very weak episode, the plot was waaaay to rushed plus slas is totally out of character, raph accepted that slash became a monster to quick, plus Raph Vs Leo crap again, i thought they settled already. And that is problem with the show in general, it often forgets what came before and backtracks all the characters all the way back...

It was a rushed plot and I too found Slashs motivations a bit to flimsy but still an enjoyable episode and by far the best representation of Slash so far in a cartoon.
I loved the toy as a child and imagined him being a pupil of Shredders and a skilled Ninja. Then I saw the 80s cartoon version annnnnnd lets just say I was less than impressed.
I hope somehow Shredder takes Slash under his wing and we finally get to see him wearing the shredder wrist blades that the 80s toy had.

well I'm thinking cause all Raph talked about with Spike was how bad his brothers were......can you imagine...if that's all you hear most of the days XD

That's what I think it is.

With that, I think slash wants raph for himself. He's always had to share raph with the others, and all slashs perceptions about then is that they are bad. So he wants to get rid of them for raph, so it's just them. He even says he doesn't want to fight raph. Just the brothers.

I was impressed with Fledmans voice work on this. I never liked him as Donny in the movies and thought whoever did Dons voice in the second film suited the character better. He worked great as Slash though.

And he still is misunderstood. He was trying to rid raph of his brothers because he thought it was needed. They just changed the dumb to intelligence. How is he misunderstood? He called them dead weight and wanted to be rid of them so it would only be him and Raph. Plus he ended up ultimately attacking Raph, which seems to show that this 'loyalty' is conditional because Raph chose to side with his brothers over letting Slash get rid of them.

The way Slash talks to him right from the beginning is a bit manipulative too, it's the 'Nobody understands you but me.' Normally someone doesn't say that unless they want to have that person under their thumb, as Spike/Slash has been around the other Turtles and hasn't been kept constantly in a cage or in Raph's room.

If Spike/Slash has been intelligent enough to pick up on Raph's ninja style and whatever he was saying (enough to know and use correct English) for years, then he's not dumb enough to miss the moments when Raph is getting along with his brothers and seeing the camaraderie that happens too.

This Slash is likely to be an evil manipulative guy, probably more pissed now that Raph rejected him. I see him going to Shredder and having Shredder feed his anger over that 'betrayal' and Raph's brothers being picked over him. I see Slash as a villain, and likely to remain as a villain until he dies or is demutated.

That doesn't really hold any water. The Ot Turtles aren't like their 2k3 selves, the 2k3 aren't like their 2k12 selves. And if you want to pull that form of logic, none of the cartoon counterparts are like the original Mirage comics. (not entierely anyway)

Edit: Anyone catch Spike smiling when Raph swat Mikey with the comic?

This episode was actually enjoyable this time. I guess because this episode didn't depend on the ongoing arcs involving Karai, April, Splinter, Kraang, or Mutagen Man.:ohwell: I enjoyed it in that it expanded Raphael's character here in exploring his anger, and how his desire of not being controlled or dependent on his brothers was granted, but it turns out to be in his own detriment with Slash personifying Raphael's untamed, bullheaded anger.

As others have wondered, as to why Spike/Slash was wanting to destroy Raphael's brothers? Well...knowing how choleric Raphael's personality is in complaining all the time about his brothers, cause who else does Raph go to when things are not going his way? Its no wonder Slash wanted to destroy them. Not justifying Slash's anger and brutality as right, but it gives a reason as to why Slash was behaving that way. For the episode, I was pleased with Slash's voice (Corey Feldman's voice) and the character so far.

And as for people trying to figure out how the mutagen changed Slash's personality, don't even bother with that one. There's no consistency to even consider substantial logic with it. Just accept the whimsical nature of it, no matter how outlandish it is.

The plot was a little thinner than usual, but I didn't mind it because it focused on Raphael's character and it was better than most predictable "Mutant of the Week" episodes. In addition, the sideplot with Leo and the small girl was good comic relief from the brutality of the fights, and it showed a more playful side of Leo with so many being quick to call his personality boring and drab with his character.

Overall the episode was decent because its plot was independent from all the other arcs involving the series, and we got an opportunity to know about the characters (specifically Raphael here). Now it's not great or anything, but at least this is an example of the series doing things fairly well. ...Even if, again, there was no involvement with any of its ongoing arcs/subplots.

An episode like this would have normally given me a bit hope for the series, but this series (for me) has given a lot of disappointments and been on downward slope for too long though. :ohwell:

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention, was that I found the last scene with Nick Splinter's advice to Nick Raphael notably heartwarming but yet strangely haunting at the same time. Obviously it was heartwarming because it was encouraging to see Nick Raph cheered up and actually enjoy the moment with his brothers. Yet it was strangely haunting because upon hearing that advice about enjoying the friends of the present when one misses the friends/family of the past, I couldn't help but think back to the other TMNT universes about Mirage's Older Raphael (living alone), Archie's Future Raphael (remember even Future Raph tells Present Raph to enjoy his family more?), and even 2K3's SAINW Raph and their bleaker futures. Huh...weird...

well I'm thinking cause all Raph talked about with Spike was how bad his brothers were......can you imagine...if that's all you hear most of the days XD

and since Spike mutated he finally had the power to do something about it

.....also Spike was just a pet turtle before he mutated....he didn't have 15 years of learning about what's right and wrong like the other turtles did.

at least that's what I'm rolling with XD

I agree BabyTurtles. Spike has mostly heard the negative about Raph's bros from Raph himself, and the times he's been in the lair with them often seem to also confirm it that Raph is being held back and abused by his bros.

Slash was particularly brutal to Mikey and Leo since they are generally on top of Raph's list if complaints.

Donnie on the other hand has had the odd complaint now and again and of course the fiasco that nearly caused Spike to get blown up. Which Donnie was seriously remorseful about. And that remorse may have spared him from Slash's wrath partially.

When Spike takes him first he takes him behind but doesn't kill him. Instead he gives Donnie injuries that could limit his chances of survival on his own. Seeing as with that sprained arm he would be able to climb anywhere all that easily and his other injuries were enough to cause him to hobble around using his bo staff and/or one of his bros as a crutch. It is also possible that Slash had intended to due away with Donnie later after he killed Mikey and Leo.

Mikey he was particularly brutal to, with the double beat down and also intending to drop him off the side of the building.

And Leo he was ready to outright murder Leo right then an there. In Slash's mind Leo is the eldest brother and leader so by that right the chief offender.

The only times he turned on Raph was when Raph was calling him evil and a freak for what he was doing to his brothers. This in turn was making Slash upset because he was doing what he felt should be done to make it so Raph isn't held back by his brothers. And that Raph was too blind to see that he was doing all this for him.

But his last moment before he fell off that building was of Raph trying to reach forward and save him, even though he is the one who also caused him to fall off the building. And of course the look off remorseful horror on Raph's face as watches his friend fall to his death. And I think that will come into play into Slashes further appearances. However I also think Slash will have to do a lot of convincing to get Raph to trust him once again.

He has big spikes on his back, spikes on his limbs, and a mace covered in spikes, but he wants to be called Slash because he got a black mace and a convenient but pointless S-shaped piece of metal? Not buying it.

He has a nose for mutagen? Not buying it.

He has an awareness not seen in any other episode and willingly jumps in a puddle of mutagen as an opportunity to start handing out beatings? Not buying it.

The show's trying to make a case that nurture beats out nature, and then they do stuff like this. Spike could have been 25 or 35 years old. Maybe one day our teens will grow up into monsters like that and Splinter's nurturing will be pointless, too. They're going to have to go their separate ways eventually. I bet Raphael grows up to be just like Spike is right now.

And the girl takes home a glowing lamp, takes it apart, and tries to drink it? Really? Maybe Axe Cop had a point about girls...

Man, really hard core episode. I liked Slash well enough, but his motivations seemed a bit off. Why exactly did he wanna straight murder Raph's brothers?

Remembering OT Slash and Archie Slash, I think maybe the common thread for Slash in general might be their possessive characteristic, to the point of clouding their judgement to a significant degree. Just like with OT Slash wanting his "binky" back (a toy palm tree), and Archie Slash wanting a lush tropical forest (from what I can remember), with Nick Slash I think he was possessive of Raph's company since Raph was the only one who spent time with him.

I kind of see Nick Slash as the possessive, smothering "friend" who wants to do everything with Raph since Raph is all Slash is used to, and Raph spending time with his brothers is a hindrance (aka "dead weight") to Slash spending time with Raph.

I absolutely LOVE the dark tone and violence in this episode.

Can't see Donnie being roughed up much, but I was on the edge when Slash hit Mikey. Ruthlessly. Mercilessly. I wished Slash was able to beat up Leo really badly too, but oh well. For a bit of variety and heart, there's a cute tea party scene for Leo and a little girl. :tlove:

Yes it is better.

I would also like to add that eventhough the action gets more and more brutal (heck I'm not complaining about it. The more the better), the heart of it all - the family value is still in tact. Raph cares for his brothers more than his ideals. That is commendable and admirable.

Bravo Nick team, you nailed it from the start and still continuing to do so.

Can't see it happening. If Donny cured Spike then he'd have to cure Timothy and April's dad and pretty much everyone and everything that was ever mutated in the show including splinter. Anything's possible, they changed him back in the OT but it didn't last.

Well...knowing how choleric Raphael's personality is in complaining all the time about his brothers, cause who else does Raph go to when things are not going his way? Its no wonder Slash wanted to destroy them.

We don't know what Raph's been saying to Spike through the years. But it's safe to say that Spike has been the one Raph confides in. We also saw it in "Rise of The Turtles" before the Turtles goes into their first big fight with the Kraang.

And this time he actually says "Sometimes I wish I was on my own" - I bet that Raph said a lot of quite dark stuff to Spike when the lid's been off and he's just thinking out loud. So maybe Slash thinks that he knows Raphs true feelings about his brothers - but forgets/doesn't realize that most of it shouldn't be taken literally.

As I said before, I hope that Slash will be spilling the beans, on some of the stuff Raph said, in his next appearance. That would 1) let us know more about where Raphs anger comes from 2) add some serious tensions between the Turtles

I was wondering if the Leo stuff in this episode would inspire you and I was right! Awesome, and looking forward to reading your latest story.

I was thinking the same thing pertaining to the mutagen. Or maybe Slash is just that good at impressions! Some folks have wondered where all the mutants go when they're not fighting the turtles. Slash probably becomes an instant success at doing voice work and buys his own home as well as a recording studio. He'll spend his downtime narrating audiobooks and recording vos for local NYC commercials. As you can see, I'm pulling this stuff out of my shell as I go along. But seriously, I'm thinking the mutagen probably had something to do with his dead on Leo impersonation. Either that or it's a hidden talent. I'll get behind that as well. That moment in the episode made me think of Predator, btw.

Allot of the folks around here are chalking the desire to murder the other 3 turtles up to Raph's venting to him whenever he has issues. Guess I could get behind that. I was thinking the same thing even before I'd watched the episode and read the blurb on various sites. Then there's the mutagen which warped Spike's mind, according to Raph. At least I think Raph was the one who was trying to reason with Slash since I only saw the episode once and haven't had time to re-watch it in my amazon instant video library. Now I'm wondering where the writers are going to go with Slash next. Didn't one of them mention Slash becoming sort of a 5th turtle eventually? I wanna say that was in black nerd's SCC season 2 preview. Or maybe my turkey induced coma brought that delusion on. haha

Yep, it totally inspired me, and that's what I like about this series.

As for Slash being able to mimic voices, it makes sense that since he's lived with them, he can pick up on what their voices sound like and can imitate them. Remember, there are times where Raph has had Spike out with his brothers around him, so it makes sense that Slash would pick up on the voices. That was pretty freaky though when he imitated Leo like that.

He does make an interesting point about the mutagen having an "emotional effect." What's he's trying to say is that mutagen plays off of desires.

Basically, the initial premise of Misfits before they got into powers trading.

This episode was even better than I expected! My favorite episode of season two and possibly for the whole series so far. I'm a Raph fan so it was super awesome anyway but then you add on top of that the absolute best Slash we've ever seen on a cartoon series and it made this episode amazing.

I loved the design of Slash. I liked all of his spikes, his big spiny shell, his fingernail claws, his forest green color, his black bandanna, his "S" belt, his mace weapon, his huge size, his very cool and evil Corey Feldman voice, and his "trophy keeping" of the bandannas as he beat-up the other turtles.

I thought the episode was great. Raph being mad at his brothers made Slash feel like the two of them could be a team without them. But Slash also wanting to take out Raph's three other brothers just made him seem that much more ruthless. I also liked how Slash picked his name over Spike himself showing independence.

I also loved how brutal Slash was in the fighting. He was really punching them through walls and tough materials here. I did think of a great future fight between Slash and Leatherhead! That would be great!

Raph also came through as a great brother in this one in the end. Especially when he had to choose between a newly partnered Slash and his brother Mikey giving him a sad/sweet face. :tlol: Raph also didn't want to hurt his pet Spike in the process but he had little choice at times.

Slash looks to be a great threat moving forward in the series and I'm hoping we see him sooner rather than later.

I'm late to the party but I don't care. Hands down the best episode of the entire season. I don't think there was a single point in this entire episode I didn't love (well, except perhaps at the veeeery end where I wondered why no one seemed to care that Raph was sitting all alone, but then I figure they know not to crowd him when he's brooding). Raph's true dedication and protectiveness over his brothers, so many sweet Raph and Don moments (FINALLY), perfectly timed humor with Leo, Raph alone saving the day instead of teaming him up with Leo as is usual to save the little bros, Mikey not acting like a complete dunce and actually contributing when needed, totally wicked and brutal fighting, no April or general stupidness interrupting their relationship as a strong family...everything was amazing.

Color me impressed. I haven't been overly thrilled with the show this season, especially after the monstrosity of last week's episode, but this was absolutely fantastic. If Nickelodeon is really so against story arcs, as seems to be the case, I'd prefer if they stuck to creating more episodes like these that can truly stand alone, rather than sprinkling lame tidbits of a possible over-arching story only to forget about them an episode later.

Good episode. Yeah the plot was a little weak but I liked the fights with Slash, he reminded me of the Dark Turtles from Fast Forward (one of the very few things I liked about Fast Forward). I liked the focus on Raph and his character development, and Leo chasing the mutagen canister was hilarious to watch. Raph's angst was slightly overdone though, I had to laugh when he did the obligatory "They just don't get it!" line.

One thing that bothered me was how come Slash mutated differently from the other turtles? The four turtle brothers are human-sized and have human-like mannerisms while Slash is a hulking brute with a gravelly voice. He also seems to think violence is the only answer.

^

One reason I read was that the turtles are sea turtles while Spike/Slash was a land turtle and some of those are bigger/rougher in size/body. If a human (like the petshop owner) had touched the baby turtles before mutation than the human element might have stabilized their mutation a bit.

Despite the size/appearance of Slash, he does seem quite intelligent and has human characteristics as well. (maybe because Raph had often physical contact with Spike)

And Raph probably has vented most of his frustrations/feelings about his brothers to Spike over time, kinda like Donnie did to Timothy after his mutation regarding April. The other reason is likely just the Mutagen being unpredictable.

===

A great episode, and one showing that a plot doesn't have to be deep or complicated in order to be successful. Well executed episode that fully kept my attention from start to finish.

Slash was very well done, and his voice actor did a fantastic job. I really enjoyed the interactions between the turtles as well. And the scene with Leo and the little girl was priceless. Nicely done.

Small nitpick was that despite Leo only getting one (although major) blow from Slash he looked just as beat up as his brothers, other than that, amazing episode. They really got beat up bad, especially the feeling the intention was to kill send a chill through me at times.

Hmm good point. I guess Slash being a tortoise would explain the size difference and the spikes on his shell. And the four turtle bros are "amphibious" turtles since they have legs and toes, while sea turtles have flippers instead of legs. Slash would have been touched by the humans who apparently flushed him down the toilet and into the sewers.

More unsettling is the theory that Slash's thuggish personality IS his true personality, which would explain his overly violent tendencies. Though given by the way he's so obsessed with "freeing" Raph from his brothers, I'd say a bit of it has to do with Raph venting to Spike.

Thanks for correcting me about the sea/amphibious turtles, I entirely mixed that up.

As for Slash, it's possible being touched by Raph was enough for his mutation. Raph and his brothers as baby turtles were probably handled/touched by a human before mutation, and with Raph having a "human" element inside of him, he could have passed that on to Spike. (Just speculating)

Yeah, Slash's personality seems quite violent, giving how little thought he gave the idea of getting rid of Raph's brothers. I don't think he's inherently "evil" but he definitely needs guidance and someone who can show him the "right" way.

yea..I think same ....

Also adding.....I presume when TMNT mutated....they were barely babies/hailings ....Spike was an older/adult pet...and that´s a point too. ;)

I'm currently in Disney, so I haven't seen the episode yet. Was it good?

As I said before, I hope that Slash will be spilling the beans, on some of the stuff Raph said, in his next appearance. That would 1) let us know more about where Raphs anger comes from 2) add some serious tensions between the Turtles

I can see Slash repeating something mean Raph said about Mikey, Mikey taking it as a compliment for a few seconds and then the inevitable "...wait a minute... HEY!"

You know when you say like that then I can't help but see Raph as Slash's daddy since he got the human element from him.

Slash would have been touched by the humans who apparently flushed him down the toilet and into the sewers.

Or his mutation is much more extreme due to his last contact with another creature was a mutant. Much like how Hun mutated in Turtles Forever. They share a similar spiky design.

Just started the Black nerd review...dear god kill it with fire!!!

Yeah man, that singing part really hurts! lol Other than that, he seems like a great guy. I gotta go finish watching it now.

Yeah, the review's pretty solid...if you can get past the Goonies' song parody.

I'm really late hereXD I thought it was pretty good, Raph was kind of bothering me though being all moody over every thing at the beginning, the rest of the episode he was pretty bad ass and at the same time felt bad for him.

Leo subplot was funny and cool, enjoyed it :)

You're late! I've just caught the last three episodes over the past couple of days.
This weeks show was good. Mikey licking the magazine to get the pizza off was hilarious. The design for Slash was nice, but I can see playmates shrinking him down in size when he inevitably becomes a toy.

Find ironic the Cory Feldman and Sean Astin are back together. They both were in the movie Goonies. Of course that came out in 1985.

I just found out today that Corey Feldman was Mouth from The Goonies. Mind = blown. :o He's my fave character from that movie and I always refer him by that nickname.

Sure I've heard of Corey's name but never bothered to google him up all this time. It's so cool that he's Slash too! Omg

I would put more stock in Feldman getting the role in the fact that he voices Donatello in the first and third live action films. Than it being do to a person he worked with 28 years ago doing voice work on the show

When I pointed that out to lil brother that they were both in the Goonies, his only comment was,"wow. the hobbit and the vampire killer back together again."

I had figured it was a nod to Cory being the voice of Don all those years ago myself.

This was a brilliant episode. I think that so far, Slash is the most interesting villain out of all them, plus Corey Feldman makes the role come alive so much.

Looks like the Lair won't be the same without him, even if Spike wasn't in it much.
