Greg Martin, an animator and illustrator, recently passed away. He did a lot of promotional artwork for animation and video games, including the American covers to many classic Sonic games. You can see some of his work here (http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=117907) and here (http://cartoonresearch.com/index.php/greg-martin-1956-2013/), but TMNT fans will especially want to take a look at his own site (http://www.gregmartinstudio.com/), the front page of which includes an iconic VHS cover to the Fred Wolf TMNT cartoon. That particular cover always struck me as being really cool-looking ever since my childhood, so I definitely mourn his passing.

Wow...I was just chatting with him a few months ago. You just never know...:(
I'm fortunate enough to own two of his beautiful covers from Season 2 of the OT:

The paintings are large and simply stunning in hand. What an incredible talent. Wow...I'm still shocked.

I never realized about how many of the Cartoon VHS covers and video game covers I remember as a kid were done by him.
Sadness :(

Yeah, same here. I had no idea he was the one who did the cover for Scooby Doo on Zombie Island. I always loved that one.

Woah.
Hate to admit it, but in spite of being familiar with all that artwork, I never suspected there was one guy who was primarily behind all of them. What a resume! As big a Sonic fan as I am, I never really loved the U.S. art compared to some of the Spaz-era Archie and Japanese stuff (Sonic's head always looked like clip art to me). But his TMNT work might have been the best the Fred Wolf Turtles ever looked.
And despite my criticisms, I would have SERIOUSLY tried to look into owning that original Sonic CD cover art. Too bad it already sold!

That Pac-Man art is flawless. I remember looking at some of it a few weeks ago and thinking how kick-ass it would be to have at least one as a poster.

Greg was a very talented guy... I knew he had done many of the videogame covers (being the old gamesplayer I am), but it wasn't until people posting here showed me that he had done some of the TMNT cartoon artwork as well. Which looking at it, now seemed obvious in hindsight because it's a very similar style.

VHS cover art is underrated; I'm glad I have dozens of classic VHS tapes, and am delighted at how much he has sold, especially the Sonic drawings. RIP; never knew you until you passed for us. It's not the same today with CGI.

Wow, that is quite the body of work! Recognize far more of it than I thought I would considering my family wasn't big on buying movies or video games back then. A real shame - I'll be sure to keep his friends and family in my thoughts and prayers.
