View Full Version : Crossovers that would actually make sense

How many/is there a crossover of franchises with the Turtles that would actually make sense and you could actually believe if they were done as a real official story.

Me personally, I always thought since the Turtles were based in New York City, crossover stories with a majority of characters from the Marvel franchise would have worked, specifically with the X-Men and Spiderman since they related around mutants.

Of course some Turtles crossovers have been done, which I'll keep nameless because they should be.

But how about some others that the majority of the fans think could work and also help the franchise benefit further from?

I think the TMNT group most incarnations could work well with the Gargoyles series. First off much like the Turtles the Gargoyles are creatures that only come out at night, and due to their monstrous appearance are not welcomed by the populous of Manhattan island.

There are also mutants that appear in the series and later clones of the Manhattan clans as well towards the end of the series.

Crossovers with Hellboy and Mike Allred's Madman would be cool.

I could get behind a crossover with either Hellboy or Gargoyles, both great series that could work well with the TMNT. A general Marvel one could be fun too, if done right, especially if they poke fun at the whole Daredevil thing.

Beyond that...hmm...if we were talking about specifically OT TMNT, a crossover with the old SatAM Sonic the Hedgehog toon could have been fun.

Well if you were gonna integrate the TMNT into the continuity of that of the main universes of either of the big two they'd be a great fit for Marvel. I could see them having great crossovers with the franchises that influenced them.

Would a Foot vs Hand war be too much with the turtles and Daredevil caught in the middle?

An X-Men and TMNT crossover would work with the focus on the X-Men that inspired the turtles personalities with a few extras on both sides like Psylocke (a fellow ninja) and Casey Jones. There's any number of threats that could bring them together from the Marvel side.

Fantastic Four - again how the four core characters are similar and yet different A great play on the idea of adventurers that happen to be a family.

Even though Spider-Man didn't seem to be a direct influence for TMNT he's the team up king. I could see the turtles fitting in to many of the stories he gets into.

Sonic the Hedgehog, for the following reasons:

*Sonic and co operate on the west coast, which the TMNT on the east.
*Both are groups of furries who regularly recruit other ago their cause after whipping them.
*Both have a human nemesis, Robotnik being focused on brains with Shredder being more of brawn.
*They both interact with small aliens; the Wisps and the Utroms
*Both have a guy out to hunt them but is actually good (Silver/Bishop) and a seductress who flirts with the enemy (Rouge/Karai)
*Both main baddies have two inept henchmen, who should play off eachother (Orbot and Cubot/Bebop and Rocksteady)
*Both have evil counterparts, be they machine (Metal Sonic/countless evil turtle robots), or flesh (Scourge/Slash and the Dark Turtles)
*Sonic tends to hang out in urban cities.
*Both visit other dimensions and planets.

I started to read this, thinking you were nuts... but that's actually pretty genius.

X-Men would be so cool, too! If only Marvel weren't owned by Viacom's archenemy. I could especially see Wolverine and Raph interacting in some way.

And, I know it's probably never gonna happen, but hey, a guy can dream. But TMNT and Criminal Minds. :P

I was just thinking the other day how awesome it would be if Mikey, who currently lost in outer space in the mirage universe, cross paths with The Doctor and they traveling together in the tardis. He tries to get Mikey back to Earth but somethings always stop them.

I'm in agreement with the posters who suggested the Gargoyles or Hellboy. I also agree about possible X-Men or Spider-Man crossovers. Come to think of it, the dimension-hopping of the Fantastic Four could also be a great way to bring the two together. Any of the above would work very well, and a Spidey crossover would definitely be a fun read!

(And for those who would like to see one done well, I have a TMNT/Gargoyles fan-fic currently going on here:

Love the idea of a TMNT Gargoyles crossover! I'll have to read your fic. Always thought New York was the place where all lines of convergence cross when it comes to heroes. One of my favorite series by Stephen King even has NYC as a pretty major place of importance as well as a small bit to do with a turtle, so to speak.

MsMarvelDuckie

That wouldn't be the Gunslinger series, would it? LOL! I've never actually read it, but my "other half" has. Also, that actually ties in to a theory I've had for a while about NYC being a major inter-dimensional nexus point for multiple fictional multiverses. Marvel, TMNT, Ghostbusters, Gargoyles, just to name a few. I suspect it's a hotbed of ley-lines and one HUGE paranormal power-sink.... But then I'm a Wiccan, and things like that make sense to me. :tcool: :twink:

Yes! It would indeed. I love King's Dark Tower series quite a bit and it's killing me not to be able to read the prequel comics which describe the Gunslinger's life in the kingdom of Gilead and the fall of that fantastic realm to a certain dark man and his even darker master.

Funny you should mention ley-lines. My other half and I were talking about those and NYC a few weeks back. She likes allot of comic stuff too and we've also been reading the DT series as well as watching the new TMNT 2012 show. I forget what book she'd read. Some SF thing maybe dealing with ley but the concept sounded pretty cool. Not to mention they bring it up in the TMNT 2k3 show and I used to read allot of really great Gargoyles fanfic which dealt with those ley-lines. Rather similar to the Force in some ways which is also cool as I'm a Star Wars fan. lol

A crossover with the Tick could be fun. Not only did they both face ninja, but the show features a lot of the Fred Wolf cast. A crossover with the Min in Black could also work. I could see stuff like Utroms and Bishop easily fitting into the MIB universe.

That's cool that you guys talk about stuff like that. I've always thought it was interesting to see how some concepts originally found in comics and sci-fi are now being treated seriously by modern science. Makes you think!

Not sure how the concept of the Force (which apparently comes from some kind of symbiotic microorganism) compares to natural earth energies. Being a Wiccan, I fully believe in the existence of such energies. (And I've seen plenty of first-hand proof that there are indeed some really strange things in real life that most folks consider "myth".) I've seen some pseudo-science explanations for them, but to me, they remain one of those things that science simply can't label or fully describe. See my signature below for my view on such matters.

you gotta somehow fit the incredible hulk in there. Talk about mean and green haha. Maybe even put she hulk in there too. And to the people who suggested it I LOVE the idea of a gargoyles crossover. batman and spiderman are interested, I don't know how'd they work out really. Mainly how batman would work out. I'm just glad (to my knowledge) they didn't cross over with Scooby doo. Scooby Doo will crossover with anything

MsMarvelDuckie
01-12-2014, 01:59 AM
That's probably because back in the day, Scooby Doo was known for doing guest appearances. Harlem Globetrotters, Josy and the Pussycats, Speed Buggy, Don Knots, and I even (vaguely) remember the Gilligan's Island and Star Trek crews. There were plenty of others, too. It's just what they did on that show.

blue falcon, batman, the list goes on and on. But back to my original statement I think a Hulk cross over would be interesting. I don't know how it'd work out but it'd sure be interesting, they could really play into the mean and green thing. Maybe Donatello meets David Banner at some science convention or chat room, that could work.

MsMarvelDuckie
01-12-2014, 02:33 AM
Yikes! Yeah, it could work, but would we really want to see Banner Hulk out at a science convention? We saw how much damage that Harold Lyja(sp?) guy caused in the IDW Donnie micro. Now imagine if it had been the Hulk getting pissy.....

And I forgot about Bat-Man, LOL!! Yeah, the Scooby Gang ran into all sorts of different characters, eh?

I got to see the Scooby/Batman crossover when I was in college for the first time. That was um... interesting! lol I had this RA who was a huge fan of the animated series and rented the thing thinking it'd be that Batman. I tried telling him not to get it. I really did. I mean, it was alright and all. Just not what he was expecting.

Hmm, Hulk meeting the turtles. I bet Bruce would get along great with Don and Hulk would get along very well with Raph! Spidy would probably mistake the boys for hero wannabes in goofy costumes at first. Who knows? It's fun speculating about all these interactions between characters. What else am I gonna do at 4:30 in the morning while being kept up with allergies. Sleeping is no fun when you wake yourself up sneezing!

The most sensible crossover with the OT Turtles if paired with Disney would have been Oliver & Company; the Turtles could have joked about why they support free advertising in an animated movie when parodies are cooler. Sykes could have been teamed up with Big Louie for the villainy.

Nick Turtles could pair with Finding Nemo due to the main Turtle character in that film.

I'm surprised nobody has said Inspector Gadget for the OT (there's a new version out so Nick could incorporate elements from that version). Dr. Claw/Shredder both have their sharp gauntlets and have a pet sidekick(s). Bebop/Rocksteady could capture/go after Gadget/Penny, plus it would be interesting to see Donatello and Gadget cooperate, while it wasn't cool later on, Corporal Capeman and Michelangelo being the same voice actor. Lots of Mad scientist plots in both shows (there's a reason why Claw works for M.A.D.), Penny isn't too unlike April in which they frequently get kidnapped but occassionally find a way to help, and Brain would make a good pet for the Turtles.

Heck if we're talking animes, why not Full Metal Alchemist? I'm betting Don would love to study how Alchemy works. Ed would get along well with Leo, and Donnie and Winrey would also get along great. I can see Raph and Armstrong trying to one-up each other on who's stronger. Mikey and Al might pal around.

MsMarvelDuckie

Homunculi might not really work. Perhaps an alchemy mishap along the lines of what happened to Ed and Al, but something different. Maybe more like what was done to the little girl that was fused with her dog in the early episodes. That was tragic, but it's also the kind of accident I could see happening in that world to create the Turtles(and Splinter). Perhaps Shredder was doing forbidden experiments with it, and ended up transmuting Yoshi(or his pet- take your pick) and ends up creating them by mistake. And thus begins the feud....

Posted this in another thread, but I'll try it here; on the subject of TMNT team-ups, what fictional Ninjas would it be interesting to see the Turtles team up with- if it were possible to do so? There are so many diffrent styles and tones of Ninja fiction that you could get a variety of stories. Here are my choices;

ninja groups from japan;

Science Ninja team Gatchman- Five champions who combine the art of Ninjitsu with futuristic science, they heroically defend the earth from the extraterrestrial forces of Galactor.

Kakuranger and hurricanger- Two teams of Super Sentai ninja, they used thier skills to battle evil space Ninjas and powerful demons calld youkai. they were adapted into the american power ranger teams, ninja storm. (There has been a precident for this, as the Power Rangers and the TMNT have teamed up before).

Goemon, legend of the mystical ninja-Loosely based on the historical/folklore hero ishakawa Goemon, this noble thief protects a goofy version of Edo-era Japan in a series of video games. His magic-based Ninja techniques would be a contrast to the turtles more realistic take on Ninjitsu.

Cat Ninja Legend Teyandee- An anime series that had three cbyernetic ninja felines defending Little Tokyo from the criminal mastermind 'the Big Cheese'. Was realeased in the U.S. as Samurai Pizza Cats, although they are actually ninjas in Japan. The turtles would get to experience not being outcasts in the anthropomorphic city of little Tokyo.

American;

Ninja Force- a division of the G.I. Joe team, Snake Eyes leads Ninchuck, Dojo, Banzai, Bushido and othersagainst the evil forces of the Cobra Ninja, fighting for freedom against Cobra's eveil Ninjas Storm shadow, Slice, Dice, and the night creepers. I would love to see some kind of battle between Snake and ethier Leo or Splinter.

MsMarvelDuckie

That was my thinking, too. Chimera- it's been a while since I watched FMA, I'd forgotten what they were called, lol! They do plenty of dimension-hopping and time-travel, so I'm thinking maybe something like the FMA Conqueror of Shambala movie, where Ed crossed through the door to the "other side" and found an alternate world much like his own, but with no alchemy. The Turtles could go through a portal and end up in the FMA world, or maybe there could be an alternate TMNT world where they actually were created there as Chimeras and grew up knowing about Alchemy.

(As an odd side-note, I used the RL genetic version of a Chimera for Donnie in my main fan-fic [Spoiler Alert!] to explain why he spends so much time in his workshop and why his voice is different, he isn't interested in girls, [or at least he never seemed to be, prior to 2k3] and some other strangeness with him....)

Hmm. Honestly, as long as the writing is top notch they could work well in any kind of story, and with any kind of cross over, whether with the "big two" or any other publisher. I would love to see the Foot go head to head with the League of Assassins, for instance. They short lived "Ninja boy" could have been a good cross over, as would TMNTAVP in my opinion. Raph with a Red Lantern ring would be bad....For both hero and villains.

But as I said, it's all in the writing and the art has to be a good pairing.
My cousin wants a chuck battle between Mike and Panthro. Go fig.

*resurrects thread* Most of the ones I'd put have already been suggested (Gargoyles, X-Men, Spiderman, Daredevil, Biker Mice, and Oliver & Company).

So I'm going to say Jackie Chan Adventures and Warriors of Virtue (if anyone remembers that movie).

Hanna is Not a Boy's Name (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Webcomic/HannaIsNotABoysName).

It'd never happen, obviously. Just let me have my dreams!

Street Sharks: Both have lots of thing in common.
Loonatics Unleashed
Toxic Crusaders
Kim Possible
Bucky o' Hare (Jenny helps April with her powers. Deadeye and Raph become rivals. Blinky and Donnie help each other)
Earthworm Jim
Freakazoid

Half Shell Heroes with Marvel Super Hero Squad: They are chibi/deformed and I would really love to see a Half Shell Heroes series.

I'd love to see them and the Ghostbusters together. Hope IDW can make it happen in the near future!

The only one I can think of that'd make sense that might be fun to watch is Mighty Ducks the Animated series, they had a lot in common.

Well I guess IDW could make a lot crossovers if they wanted to. So if want, let's say TMNT/Transformers, they will make it if they get enough e-mails.

Kick Ass. Or at least Hitgirl.
Kick-Ass is a cynical and mean-spirited satire of the Superhero genre, it's basically there to say that superheroes in a realistic setting would be violent sociopaths and nerds with anger issues. It really has no business crossing over with something else, especially something as strange as TMNT.

a teen titans one would work really well

I think a crossover with Lost could work. A lot of weird stuff happened in Lost, so the tmnt would probably fit right in. Also, a tmnt/Jackie Chan Adventures crossover would be interesting.

How about Evangelion? Especially with the Nick series.

Cant' really think of many crossovers that would actually work. They're fun to read or write in fanfiction, but it's harder for two different franchises to co-exist on screen.
I'm not a fan of Marvel/DC/etc. comic books. But they're probably the easiest places to find universes where the turtles would fit in, I'm guessing. Other than that, cant' really think of any. I could see the Turtles working out well in a Super Mario episode, especially their interaction with Bowser and Koopa turtles... but that wouldn't last long. And the only Turtles that would work well in Super Mario's universe would the the Fred Wolf ones.

Ghostbusters and the Turtles could work out well, if done right. But mostly due to the similarities of the main characters.

Mortal Kombat. They already did a crossover with the MK vs DC game.

Can't believe I didnt think of this before. Both franchises are about fighting with monster/supernatural characters.

Just think of how similar they are.
You know... you're right. I can't believe I've never once thought of this. Not only both franchises have what you've mentioned but they also have ninjas. A crossover episode or story arc where the turtles meet Scorpion, Sub-Zero, etc. wouldn't be hard to make.

Too bad MK's rating prevents this from ever happening. Only Mirage Turtles would be a good fit for such crossover.

Have you ever read the TMNT Mirage comics? Casey Jones and Raphael in particular were violent sociopaths, and Donnie was also a nerd with sociopathic tendencies. Like it or not, but the old TMNT comics themselves was a parody. Either way, I stand by what I said, I think in the future, be it a TV show or a movie, I can see Hitgirl joining the TMNT. Granted, I like her movie counterpart better.

Other crossovers. Wolvering and Raphael. Captain America and Leonardo.

Jackie Chan Adventures- oh, man, that would be funny! Splinter and "Uncle" would probably get along well. Hmm, but is this before Toru joined, or after? I'd say after. I always liked him.

That cover of the Ghostbusters/TMNT issue looks awesome! Now I'm tempted to do one of my own. y-now, since I'm already doing the Gargoyles one....
(And now I want to do a Sleepy Hollow one, too, for some reason.)

I'm not a big fan of most crossovers. I'd go with X-Men though, just because they could play on the whole mutant thing

ironically for the fancomics i put together are crossovers. the 3rd issue i did is toxic adventures in new jersey the one i'm working on now has hooks from the police academy series teaming up with rex-1. the next one is shark fin and turtle soup. i also did one from the ace vetura series in which the rat king hires ace to find some of his subjects. if your curious...http://lonewarrior20.deviantart.com/gallery/
